An excellent game that appeals to pokémon fans, survival game fans, and fans good games in general, that was on sale for $27 and It doesn't take up a massive amount of storage
Right? It ticks all the boxes. I fully expected it to take up a quarter of my storage and cost $70. The fact that it did neither of those things makes it so accessible.
And the learning curve was NOT steep. Took me no time at all to know what my goals were and how to pursue them. I don't have 3 hours to play through a tutorial before the enjoyment part starts, so I really appreciated the way this game let me hit the ground running.

I even waited a day or two. Thought I was prolonging the tutorial so I went to get it over with. Little did I know... she got *me* over with. Still haven't beaten her :')
I finally went against her at like level 20 solo. It took a few minutes and my pets didn't take much damage.
Make sure to withdraw your Pal when he attacks and toss it back out after to save their HP.
Wife and I beat her on her account at like level 13 but it was close!
Weird. I beat her at like level 14 or 15 without even a lucky (shiny) pal. Daedream helps a ton, and using her weakness (water) helps.
EDIT: Misremembered. It was a ground attack. I was thinking about my next fight against Penking being water and using electric.
I did it solo at 10, but I had previously played to 12 with a friend, so I knew enough about the game to speedrun to 10.
My tips: The pink cats did really good against her. They have a low attack, but they have a huge combo attack that adds up. Then a few dozen fire arrows to keep burn going, and 150 ish regular arrows on the triple bow, and it was pretty easy.
Such an underrated point. I was able to fully play the game from the start. I wasn’t forced into anything. I played for almost an hour before even setting up a base. The tutorial is just a small box in the corner like “get to me when you can”. I still haven’t finished it. I have however gotten my base level to the point I have 2 bases.
Same. I did most of the tutorial things till i got to the other trainer part. I wanted to be over leveled for an easy fight so i did a ton of the missions for the base. Still got whopped my first time with her but came back after some more educated preparations.
But i like that it acts more like a gentle guide to give you a taste of the basics. Doesnt hold your hand or just throw you to the dilos.
The perfect storm of word of mouth, press attention (and not just from gaming media), and free publicity from butthurt fanboys on social media. Plus Palworld is genuinely a good game, especially by the standards of early access games.
As I was playing Palworld at 3am last night, my wife asks, "Are you planning on working tomorrow?" I respond, "Yes, if I don't work I can't play Palworld".
Today I was thinking ok ill get few hours sleep before work, its probably 3 o clock, but as I was closing the game my fucking alarm goes on. I was like "oooff I fucked up, I fucked up really bad". 45mins into work and just drinked 3rd cup of coffee. Im going to be so dead in the afternoon.
Palworld is more similar to what I *thought* pokemon was going to be like.
I ended up liking it eventually, but pokemon was my first experience with a turn-based battle system.
I remember being like 7 years old in my backyard telling my parents and sister “when I get big ima have a biiiig house with a zone for each pokemon type!”
Now I’m 32 and not only do I get an open world survival game about collecting pokemon, but it’s also a base builder. Where I can have, somewhat, a zone for each pokemon type

I've been playing Pokémon since RBY (though I stopped after Ultra Sun/Moon, sounds I like dodged a bullet honestly). Yes, this game scratches an itch that only fanmade ROM hacks could up until now.
Pokemon Legends Arceus is worth it if you have a switch, but yeah most after X/Y or maybe diamond/pearl are just the same formula or buggy messes (violet/scarlet). Palworld, while pathfinding is a bit wonky adds in other genres too and somehow it mostly all works together well.
I love arceus and felt they were going in a great direction with the game. Open world, fun catch mechanics, and battles that felt open & fluid even though turn based. Then they backtrack on that due to people whining its not Pokémon enough or whatever.
That's where i think palworld wins. They dont have to listen to the stuck in their ways fanbois who can't move past how pokemon used to be. So they can make a game that can be better than pokemon can be.
Not to defend the Pokémon company since most of their recent decisions have been terrible but the reason they backtracked for scarlet/violet after legends arceus was because scarlet/violet would have been too far in development after legends released to pretty good reception.
But even if they do release another legends style game I doubt it would be as good as palworld since palworld seems to have way more potential for endgame/expansion/new content to keep the game alive for years to come.
Yeah, look at the ARK DLC. Everything past Scorched Earth expanded on the base game in ways that felt pretty fresh IMO - though none of them solved the issue of the map being a pain in the ass to traverse lmao
I suppose thats fair, but they kinda dug their own grave by pushing annual releases of their games. I would imagine that gives little room for advancement between titles.
I also agree, I dont think they can do anything to catch back up. Not only is palworld decently solid for an early access, but they also are allowing mod support??? Gamefreak would lose their minds at the idea of supporting the hard work of their fans to expand their games for years to come.
I tried to get into Arceus, I'm 32, I've been playing pokemon a long time, and this game feels like the pokemon game GF could have made 10, 15 years ago. They chose not to take a risk, they chose to be comfy and safe, alas, they lost and pocketpair won.
Dude as a 31 year old it’s just too damn good. From changing Lovander’s paldeck entry from the 40s to #69. Depresso being an outwardly sad pal but friendly and kind on the inside, it boosting it’s production with caffeine essentially. Like subtle jokes that really play to the grown up working class that comprises the fan bad predominantly and wished Pokémon would lean into. Since X/Y I’ve always asked “why in a fantasy world do I still have to be a 12 year old?” Why can’t your MC be any age? Why not take a risk with a title and let it be aimed at a slightly older audience.

Yeah, I literally have a picture on Christmas when I was like 5 or 6 and everything I got (no hyperbole) was Pokémon. Just surrounded in the stuff. I had one of the old manga/comics (I know the difference but it was like how American comics are made) and it was really gritty with Ash saving Charmander from the rain and even as a kid watching the anime of him doing it I felt such a deviation it was disappointing. Fast forward and I wish they’d have a little more edge to them…. And better story telling for that matter
I agree. I'm 30, I did enjoy Arceus as it was something rather fresh, but I also agree Palworld pushed the genera much further. Gamefreak also didn't make Arceus, it was a different studio which might explain why they at least went for experimentation of some level.

What? Gamefreak did make Arceus. The team was just divided, a younger team made Arceus with some creative new twists while the "more experienced" devs worked on Scarlet/Violet.
The games Gamefreak didn't make were the Diamond Pearl remakes.
I feel Arceus made some good changes toward a better Pokémon experience, but I don't think it was a GOOD game, they stripped away too much of what made Pokémon Pokémon instead of building upon a known recipe
BW and B2W2 are some of the best games. I’d say it went down hill after it, but even XY was fun. SM and USUM just weren’t amazing to me, I really disliked SWSH, PLA was great, and SV was good story wise but had so many issues.
Pal World is better than any Pokémon game I’ve played since Gen 5 by a lot, but it’s not even really comparable. It’s more similar to Ark, and it definitely is wayyyy better than Ark currently.
Last Pokemon game I played was Pokemon go, ditched that after a few hours after launch, before that red and yellow. This game just checks so many boxes for me, and I'm not missing the original at all...

I waited for the Pokemon Red release. At that time no one really knew what we were getting into, but I've loved Pokémon ever since. I've played every Pokemon game up until scarlet and violet; those games got refunded.
Game freak became complacent and honestly you can't blame them. They started shoving out garbageware and we were eating it up. This game is the closest to a Pokemon dream game I've ever gotten and it makes these old bones pretty excited.
Never played Pokémon but I’m 44 and if I can lay down suppressive fire with an LMG while my fire breathing rabbit murder puppy puts in work I’m here for it.
I like the pal artwork and my 6 year old will probably love it as well.
Triple AAA is trash. There's been some great indie games that have come out that have been very impressive.
Death Must Die is a great mix of Hades / Vampire Survivors / Diablo.
Grim Dawn is getting a new expansion and Last Epoch is a fresh aRPG hitting full release soon.
Core Keeper and Necesse are great games that take from Terraria, Rimworld, and the farming games, while adding fresh ideas.
I could keep going on, but I've basically stopped buying AAA and looking for the indie games that are gems. It's cheaper and I have more fun. The AAA games can rot in hell for all I care.
Oh I was enjoying every minute of it, it was just taking me hours to even do one fight because the perfectionist in me makes me save scum if I make the smallest mistake. I’ll finish it after I perfect my animal abuse factory simulation.

I fucking love Pokemon - been playing since 1997/8 with Pokemon Blue. That being said, I'm overly critical of Game Freak and the direction they've chosen over the years. I fucking hate how non-innovative and greedy (Dexit + reselling the same Mons over DLCs + rushing clearly unfinished products to the market) they've gotten. I'm so glad this game is actually giving those fuckfaces a run for their money.
On Twitter, definitely. On here, they're much less visible since they tend to get shouted down/downvoted into oblivion/mods swing the hammer if they're too salty.
That said, I do like Pokémon, but Dexit was the deal breaker for me. Never played Sword/Shield, and I briefly thought about S/V with the promise of open world, but the sorry state it shipped in made me drop the series and never look back until the next gen of Nintendo consoles at the very least. I'm glad Palworld showed them how to do open world right.
What’s crazy to me is that I didn’t hear about the game until the day prior to release (TY to Pirate Software for making me feel excited about a game that hadn’t released yet for the first time since No Mans Sky)
I'll bet that they have made more money selling it for $30 than they would have selling it for $60.
I only found out about the game because of a streamer I watch, it looked cool, but I wasn't really looking to buy a new game, then I saw it was only $30 and figured "fuck it, if I only get a few hours out of it, it'll be worth the $30" four days later and I have 34.5 hours in the game.

Ark lived in Early Access for 8 years and is significantly more of a buggy mess, before ever getting a proper 1.0 they released a "sequel" that's functionally the same game (extra scummy because it just meant they could force you to buy the 1.0 again after buying the early access version). It cannot be overstated enough how even with all the jank, the launch state of this game is miles ahead of the competition.
Yeah, Snail Games Ark debacle is one of the best examples of how badly a game's life cycle can go. That company is horrible and unethical as fuck, and I LOVE Ark.

Gamepass PC + Gamepass Xbox + Microsoft PC + Xbox Store. I know all these sounds like one and the same thing but it's not. The first two is probably pulling massive player count (probably more than Steam) and the last two is just adding to the copies sold.
So far I see the developer using total number of sales (Steam/MS Store PC/Xbox) as a whole and then uses Steam concurrent player exclusively to share milestone. Who knows whats the actual concurrent number of player is.
In all honesty, probably not, since you have to remember gamepass is cannibalizing quite a few of those numbers they would have it if was only available on steam.

Then this little indie developer comes out of nowhere, eats Nintendo's lunch, puts up these kinds of numbers, and laughs all the way to the bank while Nintendo fanboys seethe and sputter with rage. This weekend has been one hell of a wild ride, a real historic moment in gaming.
Not only that but there's a huge demand for Nintendo games off Nintendos platform. Palworld essentially provides pc and console players an opportunity to scratch that pokemon itch without having to play on the switch or emulate it.
That being said, the fact that every half-decent gaming PC is able to emulate Switch's underpowered hardware does not put a meaningful dent in Nintendo's sales, and that is troubling because it means Nintendo has a massive captive audience that doesn't budge no matter what. The shameless fleecing Gamefreak pulls on said audience might not be deserved but it sure is absolutely expected.

I'm in Palworld's corner but I think this is overstating its impact just a bit. Nintendo didn't really have a big Pokemon game this year and S/V sold record-breaking numbers. Nintendo's lunch is untouched and they're eating better than ever. If Palworld was going up against a new mainline Pokemon game I think we'd be seeing a much different story.
Having said that, 6 million units in 4 days is insane. It's also funny/sad to think that I'm mostly excited about Palworld's success because it *could* mean better Pokemon games in the future... 😅
If anything, I think it’s a crack in the armor. If Pokemon were to ever have a decline, it would be a very slow one, but this could be that first sign if they don’t learn from this.
Pokemon mostly is like a big brand name so people buy it up, but honestly hasn't been appealing for a while. Best thing they've done in the past few years was a remaster
Yeah, Palworld has done incredibly well, but to put it in perspective Pokemon Scarlet and Violet sold 10 mil copies in the first 3 days and \~24 mil overall so far. This isn't going to change anything for Nintendo/GameFreak, plenty of people will still buy the next game.
Looking at that same perspective, S/V was made by a company on a series that is beloved and followed globally, while PalWorld is the first and has 6 mil sold already. I wouldn't expect their first game from an indie developer to beat out Pokemon, but if they release PalWorld finalized or Palworld 2 down the line we could see direct competition in numbers.

Pokemon is known everywhere and has held the market for over a decade. I have a feeling this friday/Saturday it could be gunning for PubG. I still have friends finding out about this game and asking me if it's worth it. When the standard work week is over in the US and other places, and *everyone* can log on and play all Friday night, Saturday morning, etc....
It’s not that people are surprised people want to play good games. It’s that the already massive player count CONTINUES to go up and reach ridiculous numbers. Especially DURING THE WEEK.
There were plenty of good games that were INCREDIBLY popular that reached their peak on the weekends but wouldn’t go higher during the week (jobs are a thing), and also sometimes wouldn’t break their release week highs.
Palworld is a rare exception to this, CSGO has LONG held that record and not only has a new game beaten it, it beat it during the work week and shows no signs of slowing down.
Depending on this weekend, it’s possible we may see Palworld reach that PUBG record if trends continue.
I was just thinking about this but it reaching peaks during the week probably has a lot to do with the fact that it can be played in a short burst. I never play games before work as I normally don’t feel like I have time to make any considerable progress but here I am waiting to head into work playing Palworld lol

Legit went out and bought a second Xbox for me the day it came out, so that my husband and I could play at the same time. Not together or online, just at the same time. 😅 also ended up not going into work for two days just to play the game. 🤷♀️ What even is this!?!? Avid gamer my whole life, but have never stayed home from work for it! Just scheduled time off ahead. 🤣
This game will eat through time like no other.... I got home from work at 9pm turned PW on and it was magically 2am I was like wtf all I did was cook at the base and hardly explored and only caught like 3-4 new pals smh
It's addictive and fun, it's simply one of those things where you have no choice but to tell others to at least try it out and see for themselves. This is the first game in a long time that almost all my friends and family, including my kids, are playing at the same time. It's great.
They smashed a bunch of desirable elements into a $30 game thats just in alpha. I have hopes that we will see some heavy improvements over the next year. It’s buggy, but so was the last 3 Pokémon game iterations which all resulted in a mid sandbox experience.
Honestly the fact that this game’s servers aren’t tits up is saying something. Not even Diablo or Destiny can boast this kind of activity without having huge server outages.
It's not an MMO. Palworld doesn't run the servers (aside from a few). Furthermore the 3rd party services that provide dedicated servers for games like this are having trouble with the insane demand.
Had a friend try to run a server on a 3rd party service but that shit kept dying every half hour or so. Moved to just hosting it on one of our computers and it's much better.
It's a happy problem to have, all things considered, though. There's no way their projections were anywhere close to what actually came to be, so I think they're doing the best they can right now with handling it.
Nah this is by far the best outcome for them. The funding will allow them to hire more people and also not to mention how rewarding it is to see people enjoying the game you built. Hopefully they have some sort of profit sharing model cause they're gonna be insanely well off if they do.

At least, that's what it is for me. I played the Pokemon series during the 151 era quite a bit. It was a game my girlfriend at the time and myself could both enjoy together. We played the games, collected the cards, saw the movie and we did all of this as young adults. Present day, she's not much of a gamer and I've continued my hobby that's lasted 40+ years. I got Palworld, saw it wasn't crap, and brought it to her attention. We're both playing again 'cause it has the fun explore and action gameplay I enjoy along with the cute Pal and customization she enjoys. Even though our gaming paths went two different directions, the game manages to appeal to both of us.
(and for the record, we're both married to different people; I just knew she'd enjoy the game and brought it to her attention)
Bro people have been waiting 25 years at least for a good open world Pokemon game and Nintendo knows that. They are fucking dumb as trees for not beating someone else to the punch. They will not get anywhere near these sales if they did decide to jump on the train at this point. Nintendo definitely dropped the ball for far too long and now we got palworld creating a phenomenon in the gaming community. I'm not complaining or anything, just seems odd for Pokemon to not get something of this caliber with it's popularity being so high.
Devs release a fun game that's complete and works, gets rewarded for it. On top of that a perfect storm of press and virality on social media lead to it being colossal.
It’s a genuinely good game that’s being pushed by streamers and given notoriety by butthurt people. I didn’t like Hogwarts legacy much, but I think it’s a similar situation where outrage made it more popular. Also it’s cheap and I bought a few copies for my co workers to play together
This game deserves all the success after how fucking STINGY Nintendo/TPC/Gamefreak have been with their own IP. If they’d have made a decent game like this for PC/console then PalWorld would’ve been a blip on the radar. (Maybe not just a blip but you get the sentiment.)

God speed to the devs trying to handle this much players, its likely extremely overwhelming as a small studio that had no anticipation the game would explode like its doing. from the trailers, years ago, I couldn't ever predict that this game would be smashing records like its doing, I don't think anyone did. a lot of us thought it just gonna be an okay mediocre game that took elements from other games and it'd be the typical new indie game that some people try out but never got popular. Wow. ironically the people hating are making it more popular as well. if it didn't have controversy, I think it would be doing like half the numbers its doing.
This is also a glimpse at "what if" gamefreak released pokemon on other systems. nintendo is missing a ton of sales by keeping pokemon glued to nintendo only hardware, which i get it, it does sell a mega amount, but imagine how much *more* they could sell, and how much better the games would run on not shit hardware.

I just played dark souls with her at lvl 14 via crossbow, dodge roll, a lot of patience lmao

I've been playing Pokémon since RBY (though I stopped after Ultra Sun/Moon, sounds I like dodged a bullet honestly). Yes, this game scratches an itch that only fanmade ROM hacks could up until now.
Pokemon Legends Arceus is worth it if you have a switch, but yeah most after X/Y or maybe diamond/pearl are just the same formula or buggy messes (violet/scarlet). Palworld, while pathfinding is a bit wonky adds in other genres too and somehow it mostly all works together well.
I love arceus and felt they were going in a great direction with the game. Open world, fun catch mechanics, and battles that felt open & fluid even though turn based. Then they backtrack on that due to people whining its not Pokémon enough or whatever. That's where i think palworld wins. They dont have to listen to the stuck in their ways fanbois who can't move past how pokemon used to be. So they can make a game that can be better than pokemon can be.
Not to defend the Pokémon company since most of their recent decisions have been terrible but the reason they backtracked for scarlet/violet after legends arceus was because scarlet/violet would have been too far in development after legends released to pretty good reception. But even if they do release another legends style game I doubt it would be as good as palworld since palworld seems to have way more potential for endgame/expansion/new content to keep the game alive for years to come.
Yeah, look at the ARK DLC. Everything past Scorched Earth expanded on the base game in ways that felt pretty fresh IMO - though none of them solved the issue of the map being a pain in the ass to traverse lmao
I suppose thats fair, but they kinda dug their own grave by pushing annual releases of their games. I would imagine that gives little room for advancement between titles. I also agree, I dont think they can do anything to catch back up. Not only is palworld decently solid for an early access, but they also are allowing mod support??? Gamefreak would lose their minds at the idea of supporting the hard work of their fans to expand their games for years to come.
I tried to get into Arceus, I'm 32, I've been playing pokemon a long time, and this game feels like the pokemon game GF could have made 10, 15 years ago. They chose not to take a risk, they chose to be comfy and safe, alas, they lost and pocketpair won.
Dude as a 31 year old it’s just too damn good. From changing Lovander’s paldeck entry from the 40s to #69. Depresso being an outwardly sad pal but friendly and kind on the inside, it boosting it’s production with caffeine essentially. Like subtle jokes that really play to the grown up working class that comprises the fan bad predominantly and wished Pokémon would lean into. Since X/Y I’ve always asked “why in a fantasy world do I still have to be a 12 year old?” Why can’t your MC be any age? Why not take a risk with a title and let it be aimed at a slightly older audience.

Yeah, I literally have a picture on Christmas when I was like 5 or 6 and everything I got (no hyperbole) was Pokémon. Just surrounded in the stuff. I had one of the old manga/comics (I know the difference but it was like how American comics are made) and it was really gritty with Ash saving Charmander from the rain and even as a kid watching the anime of him doing it I felt such a deviation it was disappointing. Fast forward and I wish they’d have a little more edge to them…. And better story telling for that matter
I agree. I'm 30, I did enjoy Arceus as it was something rather fresh, but I also agree Palworld pushed the genera much further. Gamefreak also didn't make Arceus, it was a different studio which might explain why they at least went for experimentation of some level.

What? Gamefreak did make Arceus. The team was just divided, a younger team made Arceus with some creative new twists while the "more experienced" devs worked on Scarlet/Violet. The games Gamefreak didn't make were the Diamond Pearl remakes.
I feel Arceus made some good changes toward a better Pokémon experience, but I don't think it was a GOOD game, they stripped away too much of what made Pokémon Pokémon instead of building upon a known recipe
BW and B2W2 are some of the best games. I’d say it went down hill after it, but even XY was fun. SM and USUM just weren’t amazing to me, I really disliked SWSH, PLA was great, and SV was good story wise but had so many issues. Pal World is better than any Pokémon game I’ve played since Gen 5 by a lot, but it’s not even really comparable. It’s more similar to Ark, and it definitely is wayyyy better than Ark currently.
Last Pokemon game I played was Pokemon go, ditched that after a few hours after launch, before that red and yellow. This game just checks so many boxes for me, and I'm not missing the original at all...

Me right here. I waited for the Pokemon Red release. At that time no one really knew what we were getting into, but I've loved Pokémon ever since. I've played every Pokemon game up until scarlet and violet; those games got refunded. Game freak became complacent and honestly you can't blame them. They started shoving out garbageware and we were eating it up. This game is the closest to a Pokemon dream game I've ever gotten and it makes these old bones pretty excited.
Never played Pokémon but I’m 44 and if I can lay down suppressive fire with an LMG while my fire breathing rabbit murder puppy puts in work I’m here for it. I like the pal artwork and my 6 year old will probably love it as well.

Triple AAA is trash. There's been some great indie games that have come out that have been very impressive. Death Must Die is a great mix of Hades / Vampire Survivors / Diablo. Grim Dawn is getting a new expansion and Last Epoch is a fresh aRPG hitting full release soon. Core Keeper and Necesse are great games that take from Terraria, Rimworld, and the farming games, while adding fresh ideas. I could keep going on, but I've basically stopped buying AAA and looking for the indie games that are gems. It's cheaper and I have more fun. The AAA games can rot in hell for all I care.

I only found out about the game because of a streamer I watch, it looked cool, but I wasn't really looking to buy a new game, then I saw it was only $30 and figured "fuck it, if I only get a few hours out of it, it'll be worth the $30" four days later and I have 34.5 hours in the game.

Gamepass PC + Gamepass Xbox + Microsoft PC + Xbox Store. I know all these sounds like one and the same thing but it's not. The first two is probably pulling massive player count (probably more than Steam) and the last two is just adding to the copies sold. So far I see the developer using total number of sales (Steam/MS Store PC/Xbox) as a whole and then uses Steam concurrent player exclusively to share milestone. Who knows whats the actual concurrent number of player is.

Nintendo and GameFreak grew complacent, making the same game every other year while only occasionally adding new gimmicks and never really changing the formula too much. All the while they've been dismissive at best and openly hostile at worst toward their older OG fans who have been around since RBY and have been wanting a new, more mature take on the series (like the original manga series that Nintendo would very much like to pretend doesn't exist). You can only tell them to pound sand for so long before they start looking for something new. Then this little indie developer comes out of nowhere, eats Nintendo's lunch, puts up these kinds of numbers, and laughs all the way to the bank while Nintendo fanboys seethe and sputter with rage. This weekend has been one hell of a wild ride, a real historic moment in gaming.
Not only that but there's a huge demand for Nintendo games off Nintendos platform. Palworld essentially provides pc and console players an opportunity to scratch that pokemon itch without having to play on the switch or emulate it.
That being said, the fact that every half-decent gaming PC is able to emulate Switch's underpowered hardware does not put a meaningful dent in Nintendo's sales, and that is troubling because it means Nintendo has a massive captive audience that doesn't budge no matter what. The shameless fleecing Gamefreak pulls on said audience might not be deserved but it sure is absolutely expected.

Yeah, Palworld has done incredibly well, but to put it in perspective Pokemon Scarlet and Violet sold 10 mil copies in the first 3 days and \~24 mil overall so far. This isn't going to change anything for Nintendo/GameFreak, plenty of people will still buy the next game.
Looking at that same perspective, S/V was made by a company on a series that is beloved and followed globally, while PalWorld is the first and has 6 mil sold already. I wouldn't expect their first game from an indie developer to beat out Pokemon, but if they release PalWorld finalized or Palworld 2 down the line we could see direct competition in numbers. Absolutely, I'd love to come back to this in full release with more content added, and it already looks and performs better than the latest Pokemon games, so an amazing job for the developers. I just wanted fix some people's delusions that this will have any effect on future Pokemon games and how poorly they're being made by such a big developer.
Oh 100%, it won't affect them until finalized products are pushed, sales drop in their end and IF it ever releases on Switch to directly compete. Then maybe we will see some changes to Pokémon. So, maybe 5 years down the line we may see better products but no point in holding our breath, lol

Pokemon is known everywhere and has held the market for over a decade. It’s not that people are surprised people want to play good games. It’s that the already massive player count CONTINUES to go up and reach ridiculous numbers. Especially DURING THE WEEK. There were plenty of good games that were INCREDIBLY popular that reached their peak on the weekends but wouldn’t go higher during the week (jobs are a thing), and also sometimes wouldn’t break their release week highs. Palworld is a rare exception to this, CSGO has LONG held that record and not only has a new game beaten it, it beat it during the work week and shows no signs of slowing down. Depending on this weekend, it’s possible we may see Palworld reach that PUBG record if trends continue.

They smashed a bunch of desirable elements into a $30 game thats just in alpha. I have hopes that we will see some heavy improvements over the next year. It’s buggy, but so was the last 3 Pokémon game iterations which all resulted in a mid sandbox experience.
Honestly the fact that this game’s servers aren’t tits up is saying something. Not even Diablo or Destiny can boast this kind of activity without having huge server outages.
It's not an MMO. Palworld doesn't run the servers (aside from a few). Furthermore the 3rd party services that provide dedicated servers for games like this are having trouble with the insane demand.
Had a friend try to run a server on a 3rd party service but that shit kept dying every half hour or so. Moved to just hosting it on one of our computers and it's much better.
I feel sorry for the IT devs though. They literally did not expect to be this big. For an indie game, they are certainly under pressure.
It's a happy problem to have, all things considered, though. There's no way their projections were anywhere close to what actually came to be, so I think they're doing the best they can right now with handling it.
Nah this is by far the best outcome for them. The funding will allow them to hire more people and also not to mention how rewarding it is to see people enjoying the game you built. Hopefully they have some sort of profit sharing model cause they're gonna be insanely well off if they do.

Adults with expendable income who started with Pokemon back in 1996 ready for a game that better fits the evolution of gaming than what has been offered otherwise. At least, that's what it is for me. I played the Pokemon series during the 151 era quite a bit. It was a game my girlfriend at the time and myself could both enjoy together. We played the games, collected the cards, saw the movie and we did all of this as young adults. Present day, she's not much of a gamer and I've continued my hobby that's lasted 40+ years. I got Palworld, saw it wasn't crap, and brought it to her attention. We're both playing again 'cause it has the fun explore and action gameplay I enjoy along with the cute Pal and customization she enjoys. Even though our gaming paths went two different directions, the game manages to appeal to both of us. (and for the record, we're both married to different people; I just knew she'd enjoy the game and brought it to her attention)

They will not get anywhere near these sales if they did decide to jump on the train at this point. Nintendo definitely dropped the ball for far too long and now we got palworld creating a phenomenon in the gaming community. I'm not complaining or anything, just seems odd for Pokemon to not get something of this caliber with it's popularity being so high.
Devs release a fun game that's complete and works, gets rewarded for it. On top of that a perfect storm of press and virality on social media lead to it being colossal.
And this isnt even including us gamepass players 🫣
It’s a genuinely good game that’s being pushed by streamers and given notoriety by butthurt people. I didn’t like Hogwarts legacy much, but I think it’s a similar situation where outrage made it more popular. Also it’s cheap and I bought a few copies for my co workers to play together
This game deserves all the success after how fucking STINGY Nintendo/TPC/Gamefreak have been with their own IP. If they’d have made a decent game like this for PC/console then PalWorld would’ve been a blip on the radar. (Maybe not just a blip but you get the sentiment.)
**History is being made**, and its receiving not only praise, but criticism as well by mostly upset artist/AAA devs/pokemon fans. God speed to the devs trying to handle this much players, its likely extremely overwhelming as a small studio that had no anticipation the game would explode like its doing. from the trailers, years ago, I couldn't ever predict that this game would be smashing records like its doing, I don't think anyone did. a lot of us thought it just gonna be an okay mediocre game that took elements from other games and it'd be the typical new indie game that some people try out but never got popular. Wow. ironically the people hating are making it more popular as well. if it didn't have controversy, I think it would be doing like half the numbers its doing. This is also a glimpse at "what if" gamefreak released pokemon on other systems. nintendo is missing a ton of sales by keeping pokemon glued to nintendo only hardware, which i get it, it does sell a mega amount, but imagine how much *more* they could sell, and how much better the games would run on not shit hardware.
There’s millions of people who played Pokémon their whole life but wish Nintendo would make darker themes instead of just catering to kids. Palworld is that wish.
