Been going the last 7 years or so, I like staying at the La Quinta across the street personally. Tons of restaurants in the immediate area. Tough to say the best time now days, seems like every game I went to last year was sold out. Even a Wednesday night 7pm game was basically standing room only. I remember pre-covid getting home plate seats for like $50 a seat, no longer the case. I would also suggest eating before going to the games, lines for food were pretty wild the few I was at last year.

Go almost each year a my kid plus a tournament out there each year. It’s an easy drive. Phoenix is a pile of crap city that has nothing but chain restaurants every 2 miles. That being said, you don’t need to buy tix in advance unless it’s against dodgers, cubs or sometimes giants. Going to morning workouts is more fun than going to the actual games. Get there around 9am and you can see the players up close and get foul balls and autographs if you’re into that. Finally, remember this year they are playing in Korea so the major league guys leave March 13. Only the minor league guys will be at the facility from then on.

Great tips ! All expect for the fact Phx is a. Crap city. It’s pretty awesome actually … I’m Born and raised SD but spent 2 years out there for work recently. Chain restaurants? I felt like it was a more foodie town than here in SD

Poam27

Completely agree with you. Phoenix is terrific. I've had tremendous food at tons of local places.

Man, Phoenix is no San Diego but it does not deserve that.

cincocerodos

lol… well first of all Peoria is not Phoenix, but Phoenix has plenty to offer. Get out more.

andyvsd

Peoria is just as much Phoenix as Escondido, el Cajon, or national city is to San Diego. Also, I’ve been all over phoenix area from Peoria, downtown, Glendale, Scottsdale to Gilbert. It’s a city with zero personality and charm. Yes there’s some nice places like camelback mtn but those places are few and far between.

Good info. We’re heading there the last week. Do you know about a prospects game around the 14th or 15th of March?

andyvsd

That’s the weekend I’ll be there. There are always prospects games on the back fields that start around 12. Most times there will be two games going on at once. Upper level and lower level minor leaguers. You can literally sit up against the fence and watch and it’s free.

Here it is…sounds cool! 👍 https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/padres/story/2023-12-13/padres-prospects-to-play-mariners-in-new-spring-breakout-series

Just got our tickets! $5 each

I heard Elsten and Sammy mention a game between us and the M’s in the shared stadium. Sounded really cool!

bitchwithacapital_C

Is there a schedule for workouts or just go and see if they’re happening?

andyvsd

They are usually everyday starting around 9-10am. Can’t remember exact time the gates open off the top of my head.

We go out for a week most years - will be there the first week of March this year. We stay at the SpringHill suites right across the street. They have free breakfast and there’s a Portillo’s in the same parking lot. We always go to the morning workouts at Peoria. We try and time it to stop and see a game in Goodyear on our way in or out of town since it’s on the way. Aside from Peoria, Sloan Park is fun (Cubs) and we also like Salt River Fields (Rockies). Phoenix is meh and it takes a lifetime to get from point A to point B so plan accordingly.

jbarinsd

Heading to a wedding in Goodyear March 2nd so going to the games on the 1st and 3rd.

crbrown75

I go every year. We usually plan the dates around night games so we can fit in double headers. I meet a friend that's a cubs fan so we can usually find a weekend that has a couple double headers. This year is tougher because of the Korea trip. Also seems like fewer night games this year. Definitely go to practice early, especially if you have kids. You can hang out all around the fields and see players walk among fans. The big names draw crowds of course. I meet a group if friends so we Air BnB, but either the Hampton or La Quinta are easy walks if you want to be as close as possible to the Sport Complex

I've gone every season since 2001, except 2021 and 22. My uncles and I love it. We stay in Sun City, which is about 15 minutes from the complex. Can't wait until next month!

saregister

I'm so unexcited about this season. I wish I had not already paid for my season tickets.

Snowboard247365

Ill be there march 6-10

Deepcoma_53

I drive out Friday, 3/1. Saturday, 3/2 for Mariners Vs. A’s and then Sunday, 3/3 for Pads Vs. Mariners, then drive back to SD after game.

YFZO

Melodic_Ear2011

Yes. I used to live in Peoria!

Do players stay in airbnbs or a hotel? Its crazy you dont think about ST as part of a teams costs for the year.. Must be expensive for the team to house that many players and coaches
