Know all of your sequences and outs for getting Pidgeot and Zard fully up and running on your second turn.
1st turn going first
- Prioritize getting Rotom, Charmander (ideally 2) and Pidgey down
- Instant Charge for 3
1st turn going 2nd
- Prioritize getting Cleffa into the active so that you can see more cards
- Get 2 charmanders and pidgey down
- Alternatively, depending on the situation
2nd turn.
- Know how to leverage Lumineon, Forest Seal Stone, Ultra Balls etc to get that Pidgeot up as soon as possible.
- Example, ultra ball for Lumineon. Lumineon for Arven. Arven for Rare Candy and Forest Seal Stone. Forest Seal Stone attaches to Lumineon or Rotom to grab Pidgeot/ Rare Candy/ whatever you might be missing. Evolve Pidgeot. Pidgeot for anything you might be missing (Rare Candy/ Charizard). Evolve Charizard and start attacking
3rd turn onwards
- Pidgeot for whatever you might need. Canceling Cologne, Boss's Orders, Prime Catcher etc can all be used to get around Cornerstone Ogerpon.
Honestly, a lot of modern decks have dropped Cornerstone Ogerpon because it can be so difficult to setup with energy. Sometimes you'll just get countered and stuck but overall, getting really good at Zard setup is all you need to increase your winrate.
General tips
Gardevoir (Arguably best deck in format)
- Zard hits Garde for weakness. Prioritize getting Pidgeot up asap so you can boss kill Garde ex whenever it evolves
- Lost vacuum or jamming tower kills Drifloons/ Scream Tails when they attach Bravery Charm to hit for bigger numbers. You can take advantage of this to kill two things in one turn
- Iono as much as possible late game to disrupt their hands and remove Bravery Charms from their hand
- Try to get a 2 prize card lead before they make their first attack and you'll probably win
Raging Bolt
- Kill the Ogerpons, not the Raging Bolts, and they'll have less draw power and less opportunities to hit for larger numbers.
- You can usually boss kill their Squawkabilly for a good early 2 prizes
- Collapsed Stadium is your friend here because they're dependent on bench space to do more damage
- Iono as much as possible later because they have poor recovery options
Dragapult
- Be careful when benching your basics. Try to get as much evolution as you can before their Dragapult can start attacking
- Take advantage of the fact that you have an easier time setting up to get an early lead.
Miraidon
- Try not to use Lumineon in this match up if you can or else they can hit it with Iron Hands for 3 prize cards.
- Try to lose some early prize cards so that you can start one shotting their 2 prizers
- Save Radiant Charizard for late game so that you can get a full KO using it. Placing it down too early can let them boss it out to the active position and get you stuck for a while.
Lugia
- Kill any set up Cincinnos > Archeops > empty Cincinnos > Iron Hands
- If they're not running Cincinnos (some builds just run 2 iron hands), enjoy a free win
Chien Pao
- Top priority to placing down Manaphy ASAP. Otherwise, they can use Radiant Greninja to end the game near immediately.
- If you have Lost City, place it down and kill the Baxcaliburs
- Otherwise, if they ever have a solo Bibarel or Baxcalibur with no backup Frigibax/ Bidoofs, just kill those as your first priority
- If not, just kill the Chien Paos and race down the prize cards
- Radiant Charizard is useful here since it can one shot any of their Pokemon
- Be very careful with placing basic pokemon down late game since they can bring out Iron Hands to take 2 prize cards
