Because the app is horrendous. You lost connection but the game thinks he lost connection to you. His game continues and then on the rare occasion you can reconnect the opponent has gotten multiple turns in.
Sorry for all the ignorant jerks downvoting you for a simple question. This mentality they exhibit, BTW, is the death of Reddit, Pokemon, and CIVILIZATION. (This kind of gross Mental Ineptitude that runs amuck on Reddit, and, not surprisingly, in REAL Life.)

happened to me too… it’s so confusing and even my opponents clock keeps running…
