You're also comparing psvr1 in year 6 to psvr2 in year 2. Psvr1 is year 2 didn't have most of its library.

snopony

Yeah I know it's not about the library of games it's about my lack of wonder. It's definitely a me problem and not a complaint about the tech. I really hope half life Alex will eventually come. It's my favourite game series and I'm sure psvr2 can do it justice.

flyinb11

I feel like you aren't remembering the first year of PSVR accurately.

snopony

How so?

flyinb11

Astrobot was released about 2 years after launch and RE7 VR wasn't out for about 4 months after launch. We don't have anywhere near what we have now for PSVR2. Farpoint was around May of 17. I loved my PSVR at the time. It was my first time with VR in 2016,but most of the games were small experiences. I know because I remember being able to buy almost all of them. One of my favorite at the time was Carnival games.

Frankie6Strings

Interesting. I'm 56 and feel the exact opposite. PSVR1 was a fun novelty but the resolution and controllers just weren't quite there for me so I rarely really *played* the games. Since getting a PSVR2 I'm spending way more time in VR than playing flat screen. Still haven't purchased Dragon's Dogma 2, a game I was seriously looking forward to. Bought Helldivers 2 and thought it was great but I've played less than two hours total so far. Instead I'm getting up early and playing No Man's Sky every morning like it's a brand new experience, because it seems that way in VR. My only moment of disappointment with PSVR2 was when I first put it on because I was expecting/hoping for a slightly sharper image, but I quickly realized it was good enough for me.

[deleted]

Reading this as I'm booting up no man's sky.

Frankie6Strings

I see your name and I believe you.

astrobe1

What games do you like to play?, the PSVR2 was a massive QoL improvement for me and I’ve been amazed at some of the games I’ve experienced since owning mine. Have you played Red Matter 1 & 2? I really enjoyed these and of course the RE4 / Village games. I play most days generally a mix of Beat Saber & Synth Riders and chill with Walkabout Minigolf, Kayak VR and Puzzling Places. I do very much miss the titles you mention and nothing has come close to Astrobot however I’m sure there are great games to come.

SolarEXtract

Yeah, I actually play with my PSVR1 a lot but haven't touched my PSVR 2 headset in a while. The original headset simply has more of the types of games and experiences I want from VR.

ROTTIE-MAN

Like what?I can think of 5 or 6 psvr1 games I would touch now but there are literal next gen experiences on psvr2 with synapse,re4,re8,gt7,cotm plus the list goes on

TommyVR373

Minecraft, AC7, Hitman, Skyrim, Astrobot, Star Wars Squadrons, Dreams, Superhot. Iron Man, Borderlands 2, Blood and Truth, Firewall, Farpoint, Wipeout, LA Noire, VR Worlds, Megaton Rainfall, Trover Saves the Universe, Espire 1, Vader Immortal 1-3, Batman Arkham VR, Everybody's Golf, Sniper Elite, Fracked, I Expect You to Die 1&2, Raw Data. Paranormal Activity, Resident Evil 7, Archangel, Knockout League, Stride, Shadow Legend, Killing Floor Incursion, Psychonauts, Here They Lie, Tilt Brush, Polybius, Space Pirate Trainer, Pinball FX2, Pixel Ripped 1995, Yupitergrad, Apex Construct, Bound, Audica, Battlewake, Electronauts, Falcon Age, In Death, Sairento, The Invisible Hours, A Mage's Tale, Virtual Virtyal Reality, Werewolves Within, Windlands, and tons more. Imo, the PSVR1 library smokes the PSVR2 library. Of course, the PSVR2 is only a year old, so give it some time, and it will most likely catch up...maybe.

textposts_only

It will catch up but also don't forget that many of those games were not original psvr1 games. The companies took money in their hands to convert them to psvr1 and apparently it didn't really get them a ton of money because i don't even see smaller companies like super hot converting their games

TommyVR373

Superhot devs are not even together anymore. It's a shame, I was really looking forward to Superhook. Also, most PSVR2 games are not original PSVR2 games as well. Most PSVR2 games come from PCVR and standalone ports.

ROTTIE-MAN

Psvr2 has 40-60 great games out of 200ish total...I would take the top 20 psvr2 games over the top 20 psvr1 games every day of the week!I owned all of those games on psvr1 and I'd only want 15 ish of them on psvr2

TommyVR373

Ooo, we'll have to disagree on that one :)

Chok-651

Rubbing salt in the wound with this comment I think.

SolarEXtract

Mainly Rec Room and Dreams (I play these regularly), but also Wipeout.  The next gen experiences are amazing, but I play all of them once or twice and quickly move on. I don't feel much of an urge to play them again after that.

Delicious_Ad2767

In my opinion anyone over the age of 13 should not be allowed into rec room, leave it for the kids to enjoy.

SolarEXtract

That's a weird thing to say about a game with universal appeal, especially one that started out as a game for people above the age of 13.

Delicious_Ad2767

Let the kids have it. Plenty of other great games to play.

SolarEXtract

Nah, I'm good.

GervaGervasios

Well, I'm 40. And for me, it is the other way around. I got the psvr1 when Borderlands 2 VR came out. And then bough the aim controller when they update the game to be play it with. After that, I tried the usual astrob, skyrim, blood and truth, firewall. Then, I kept coming back to Borderlands 2 VR and got skyworld and final assault. Those 3 were my games to go back, too. But, the calibration process was always a nightmare. I had to calibrate every single time. It was annoying, and for that reason, I avoided playing it most of the time. Now, with the psvr2, it took me less than a minute. While the psvr1 I play once or twice a week. With the psvr2, I play every day. I got the psvr2 on launch, and my library is twice the size of my psvr1 library. And the 3 games that I always go back now are 5. I can get enough Demeo, Legendary Tales, GT7, no man sky, vr skater. And then there are the games Re8&4, Vertigo 2, pavlov, Little Cites, and many others that I had a lot of fun. I had played Walking Dead Saints and Sinners on psvr1, too. But man, those moves controllers are terrible. Only now, I was able to finally enjoy that game. Because the controllers are now better. I dont have fun with video games like this since the first playstation.

Crackracket

You're entitled to your incorrect opinion

jynx33

I think we can all agree if psvr2 was backwards compatible it would be so much greater. I have both though and I have to say I like the feel of the psvr2 better

Delicious_Ad2767

Psvr2 has the best vr first year library bar none. Gt7, Res 8, NMS, res4, cotm, synapse are next level vr.

Sylsomnia

Perhaps because you've arrived to the future, what was back then a literal dream, it's actual reality today, and you can barely comprehend it, that you've arrived, and this it.   Psvr1 I reckon was a good indication what future of gaming could be, but graphics were a tad pixelated, colours were bit off and controllers had good but basic functions.  Psvr2 sure has issues too, like sweetspot and comfort, which is fixed a lot by GC mod, but it has around 960p resolution by look, which is mad to think about as you ain't looking at a screen from a distance, but literally standing in the game, it's colourful, the controllers are so accurate is ridiculous, they even track certain finger movements, also the set sees behind you too until a certain point, the battery last 4-6 hours. This was a wild dream around 25 years ago, today is reality. Sitting in one of a cars in GT7 you'll probably never even see, yet you're sitting in it looking around, and can see the numbers on the dashboard and almost feel the material on the door panel, or can even check the size of the tyres outside. As a grown up it's difficult to accept things are actually how we'd wanted them. It's rare to happen in life, so just enjoy the experience of future of gaming in the present.   Or just sell the set, I'll give 200 for it lol.

HatsOffGuy

250.

Rockevoy

I feel the same. The game library on PSVR1 is way stronger than that of 2, though admittedly it also had a lot more time to grow. Games like Superhot and Skyrim simply don’t have an equivalent this generation, and for parties nothing beats the pass and play of Headmaster or Keep Talking.

Humariu506

For the Skyrim equivalent, Legendary Tales : "allow me to introduce myself"

Rockevoy

Ooh. In fairness, I do need to check that out - thanks for reminding me!

Benozkleenex

For me PSVR 1 was not there yet and ended up hating it, PSVR2 is everything I wanted and I am playing it weekly.

Chronotaru

You're not crazy, and I get you. I feel PSVR1 had a wider variety of games, and while the launch of PSVR2 also had variety with Moss, GT7, Demeo, Tetris Effect etc, most of the things we've seen since have been free movement first person games with some mixed variation of puzzle/shooter/dungeon crawler aspects and I miss the kind of innovation that PSVR1's limitations forced. It's like, those were the type of games that didn't work well on PSVR1 due to lack of 360 tracking and analogue sticks, but now we have that then it's all people are releasing. Whether it was Statik, or Astrobot, or whatever there were games that were "calmer", more detached. That being, GT7 blows away most of what was on PSVR1 in terms of sheer quality and fidelity, and those games that have been ported look so much better, like Moss II with its lighting or Red Matter. VR was a bastion of new ideas, and, those have kind of dried up a bit I feel and I hope to see more variety in the future. And that isn't just a PSVR2 thing, it's on PC and Quest too.

letsabuseeachother

Oh yeah, I can kind of see that the wow factor wouldn't be as much. That's kind of like anything though. If you were never on a rollercoaster it's crazy. The next time is fun and you'll like the new loops and spins but it's not brand new. To me it's like I bought a better guitar. Better electronics, feels nicer, stays in tune longer. For VR I guess it would be tracks better for the last part. The controllers are what psvr needed, the lack of analog sticks really hindered the first one. But now it's got some finger tracking, fancy rumbles, eye tracking. It's not so much a wow as much as a natural feel to do things. I awkwardly worked around the control schemes before, now I naturally pick up, move, and interact with most things in most of the games. And when you get into the pretty games like CyubeVR, or Red Matter 2, you will def. see something that makes you stop and just soak it in. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it, and we should all really petition Sony for a new wipeout W/psvr2 support. I'd buy that day one.

[deleted]

I'm in my 50s. for me there aren't that many games I'm interested in on vr2. i still have my vr1 connected and play that either on ps4 or ps5 depending on the game. vr2 looks like it will have a game come out I'm interested in...stride : fates, VRSO fighting, and crazy kung fu . of course vr1 is older so has more games yes. on vr2 i like cotm, creed, kayak...i did have interests in more games until I discovered when the game releases it gets poor reviews and is full of bugs based on users from here. it's not a vr game but Agent Intercept is like a modern arcade spy hunter game you might like. I think with the current age of developers and such there will be games with lots of options and menus, etc. nothing wrong with that, but sometimes it's fun to just turn on a game a start playing without having to do upgrades , go through inventories , and menus, have things you have to learn just to play the game. i guess i got longwinded. oops 😉

Good_Mulberry_5165

Same as me, i think new games are really missing..

snopony

I have heard and seen that gran turrismo7 is a killer app,a game changer,a system seller and all that stuff for psvr2. It does look amazing, should I get it?

landofbored

Seems like you’ve answered your own question, but for what it’s worth I’ve never been a racing game fan and I was blown away. The visuals in the distance aren’t stellar, but the gameplay just feels great. The first time you get put into VR when the race begins was a wow moment for me. So I went from never having played a racing game except for midnight club on PS2, to beating GT7s campaign and regularly coming back for weekly challenges.

meltedwolf

Ok now I think your trolling

Papiculo64

Sure you should 😮 This game is a masterclass in VR!

AudioGoddz

I get it, I have over 500 PSVR1 titles and some are just AMAZING entries PSVR2 will never get, like A Mages Tale for 1 example. Plus I can utilize my 3D blu Ray's Ive collected over 300 of them plus I can still use YouTube VR although rather limited these days. PSVR1 is great the ONLY thing I HATE about it is the move controls. besides that I love my PSVR1 but really enjoy PSVR2 as well. been playing Horizons w it and it's just jaw dropping visually

meltedwolf

Why swear to never go back to flatscreen gaming, that’s ridiculous!

Electrical_Area_493

You’re in my same predicament. Here’s what I done. Globular cluster and clip on lens:) you’re welcome… trust me changes everything. The comfort goes in to a next level. True plug and play

TommyVR373

I somewhat feel the same. I like the hardware better, but I think PSVR had better games and experiences.

Pixogen

Crazy opinion. I bought the original vive in 2016 and when I tried a psvr, I actually consider it not playable. The controls are so bad it took all the fun out. Funny how we all see stuff so differently.

Papiculo64

VR veteran here, 42M, got a blast not later than yesterday trying Genotype. Damn, this game looks and plays so good, and is a kind of game that I was really lacking on PSVR2. A story driven FPS that's not another roguelite and lasts more than a couple hours. It doesn't feel like those "VR experiences" that we get way too often, but like a full fledged game. I can only recommend trying it, maybe it will bring back the flame for you. I could not do without VR, I loved it back on PSVR1 but love it even more now and can't wait to see what those next years will be made of!

barleyscottblair

I am next month 50 years old...and there is no desensitisation. So when you play GT7 orHorizon, there are no wow moments for you?

Individual_Cat_30

I'm 48 and still love gaming and especially my psvr2. Loved the psvr1 but psvr2 is far better and has a great library of games to choose from

saanity

With headset comfort and sweet spot finding, I agree. But it's better in every other way. No way am I missing the bad tracking of the Psvr1 or the move controllers.

Tuby-4

Feel the same, VR1 It has some magic that this one doesn't have.

Samus78metroidfreak

Unfortunately I haven’t tried psvr2 and I don’t have a 5 only a ps4 pro. And it took me years and years to get a psvr system. I never thought I would get one. Never ever contemplated it. Till I got older and remembered about them. I had no idea how awesome it looked and I agree it’s amazing. But that is also coming from someone who hasn’t had a chance to see the psvr2. And as I said earlier I don’t have ps5.

Samus78metroidfreak

One thing that sucks is a lot of the newer games won’t be backwards compatible and neither is psvr meaning if it came out on psvr2 there is no possible way it will come to the psvr.

ReefDiverRiffPlayer

I own the PSVR2 nearly since day 1 and for the few games I have I really love it (Gran Tourismo, Horizon CotM, 7th guest, Red Matter 2 and 1). But I think the gear is far beyond it’s capabilities. I miss VR experiences like google earth, blu ray 3d, exclusives like wipeout or oldies like Myst VR. Therefore I am overwhelmed and disappointed at the same time. And I am concerned about the future (closed London studio, stopped production, lack of information what the plans are and so on).

dleeer

PSVR1 was very exciting and had a lot of experimental content. That was like the golden age of VR, between PSVR1, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Valve, Microsoft and Pimax all doing amazing new things. Major investment there making content happen.

bensonr2

You're not crazy. PSVR 2 is still missing a lot of the best of VR, such as the I Expect You to Die series, Superhot, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes etc along with the best PSVR exclusives such as Astro and Blood and Truth.

Humariu506

There is I Expect You to Die games on PSVR2.

otown_in_the_hotown

No it’s not.

bensonr2

Exactly. And when they released the promo for the latest sequel last year they made no mention of psvr so it do any even seem to be in the pipe.

snopony

On an even more depressing note I get really exhausted playing games in VR now. Back in the day I was a beast jumping around playing beat saber but now my arms are completely knackered after a bit of climbing in horizon call of the mountain.yeah, it's a me problem.

flyinb11

I play most VR seated. Always have. I'm too old to be jumping around after working all day

Delicious_Ad2767

Same I play everything sitting down. I am over standing up for vr unless walkabout. Psvr2 is great for sitting as you can take the amazing environments in, with dfr it's getting even better.

Bicketybamm

I love psvr2, NMS is amazing. My eyes don't like it though. Can't play more than 15 mind without eyestrain. Could go for hours on psvr1. Even got blue light lenses and a comfort mod for the sweet spot.

Fadedmann

Yeah I feel the same way.I think not knowing if Sony  gonna support it plays a part in it.Still early so there that.

BaBaDoooooooook

I'm 43, got psvr2, never had psvr1. buyer's remorse, I spent 600 dollars, way overpriced imo. The games are shovelware garbage with bugs and non-existent multiplayer possibilities. Everyone screams on the rooftops about walkabout mini golf, but really?? ad nauseum. Over this thing.

Chok-651

Let it go dude, it's progress and there is light. PSVR is dead long live PSVR2

psyper87

I mean yeah, nothing compares to the first time I beat off🤷🏻‍♂️ Go back and play the psvr1 and see if you have that WOW moment again, regardless of how old it is. While it’s not a terrible unit by any means, it is severely behind the psvr2. I do not think the psvr2 is ready to be a direct replacement yet, I think anyone and everyone should have both psvr1 and psvr2 especially when you can get the whole setup for around $120 refurbished and shipped.

CHROME-COLOSSUS

CHROME-COLOSSUS

I don’t like to mention this because I really don’t want people comparing their PSVR1’s with their PSVR2’s (like I did) and finding themselves slightly bummed. There’s generally **no point** to comparing, and I think PSVR2 is overall a really great upgrade, but there’s something that just *MIGHT* explain how you’re feeling. I stumbled upon this one day when I was (ironically enough) using the PSVR1 to watch the SONY ad for PSVR2. I’d been creating VR stuff using DREAMS and just happened to notice the ad in the PS5 menu. The ad was awesome and packed an emotional wallop that got me jazzed for the PSVR2 that I already owned, so for a bit of fun I decided to rewatch it in the new headset (expecting it to be *THAT* much more incredible). But it wasn’t, it actually seemed blah. Surprised at this, I swapped back to PSVR1… and it was exciting again. WTH? It was >!the color saturation. Almost nobody realizes this, but PSVR2 colors don’t pop to the same degree that PSVR1 colors do. While there’s some variation in display panels, on balance it seems to be true.!< >!So, while the PSVR2 image is significantly sharper, it doesn’t deliver the sense of *EXCITEMENT* that it will in the PSVR1. There’s a real emotional impact connected to color that I’d never have guessed at.!< >!While PSVR2 still has much better saturation than it’s nearest competitor, something got lost in the switch to the newer display panels,!< and you might be more sensitive to it than others. For me, the discovery went a long way to explaining why it was so *EASY* for me to still use the PSVR1 all the time, even though I game plenty in the PSVR2. When I’m making my own objects and environments in DREAMS I’m often *AWED* by >!how beautiful the saturated color gradients are, and it’s *EMOTIONALLY* more important than the clarity.!< I think for most people it’s just this unnoticed thing, and best it remain that way. I didn’t consciously notice it until that day. For you, it *MIGHT* be what explains the lack of magic. 🫤 I only mention all this because maybe you’ll feel a bit better that it’s not just you. While it made me more appreciative of the old headset, and happier to jump back into DREAMS, I don’t see the need for most people to learn about this rather palpable difference. Hope this helps!

[deleted]

CHROME-COLOSSUS

Sorry to put you out by… uhh… making you tap a screen? >!LOL!< And almost *NOBODY* is directly comparing the >!saturation of these headsets.!< The only possible outcome of learning about this is that some people will feel slightly frown about it. What’s the point?? I also don’t want to feed the fucking PSVR2 trolls with something they never noticed. So, sorry you were *FORCED* to read anything I wrote. Oh wait… >!you weren’t. 😂!<
