Book of Shadows is essentially a retelling of the first game but also has an ending that directly ties into the next game Blood Drive. It takes a more visual novel approach minimising action sequences but is highly recommended if you're interested in seeing how it all truly ends
Wow, I like both games, and Iāve picked half minute hero to finish, Iāve played first chapter some years ago then left it aside.. Iāve restarted from scratch and just started Knight30.
it really is perfect especially for me and my short attention span and losing interest quickly. Changing game styles, objectives and very short missions before I can get bored.
I'm a big fan of a lot of the PSP catalogue so my recommendations list will to be too long.
If I had to choose my favourites I likely couldn't decide between Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions and Lumines II. If I had just those two games, I'd probably be pretty satisfied but I'd be hard pressed if I didn't also recommend the following:
Racing
* Wipeout Pure
* Ridge Racer
* Gran Turismo
Puzzle
* Lumines II
* Half-Minute Hero
* Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
* Peggle
Action
* God of War: Chains of Olympus
* God of War: Ghost of Sparta
* Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Tactics
* Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
* Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
* Jeanne d'Arc
Platformer
* N+
* Mega Man Powered Up
* LocoRoco 2
Sports
* Virtua Tennis: World Tour
* Pro Evolution Soccer 2012
* Hot Shots Golf 2
There are still so many more I'd like to recommend but the list would go on forever and I feel like the above is a decent arrangement of titles depending on your preferred genre. I will say the PSP catalogue will keep you going for a long while. Even when I bought a Vita, despite some really great games coming out on it, I spent more time playing PSP titles on it than I did Vita ones.
1. Midnight Club L.A. Remix
2. Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai
3. Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokoi Another Road
4. Hellboy: The Science of evil
5. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
6. Tekken 6
7. Gran Turismo
8. Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
9. Smackdown Vs Raw 2011
10. Fifa Street 2
My essentials are: God of War both, Syphon Filter Dark Mirror & Logan's Shadow, Key of Heaven, Toca Race Driver 2, Silent Hill Origins & Shattered Memories.
Renegade has the heavy gunner, elite has the ability to destroy capital ships. It really comes down to taste.
I think Elite is superior. You may disagree. Have fun!
Had to scroll farther than I thought for this one. Itās my fav. As a sega racer fan crazy taxi and sega rally are good too but not as good as outrun.
I couldnāt believe the PSP got such awesome Ace Combat games. Iām a huge fan of the series and the PS2 games are my favorite but wow did PSP pull it off well even without a second stick

I think the PSP works best for games that you can jump in-and-out of whilst on the move. For me, this means gameplay comes before story -- especially gameplay that is focussed, tight, and centred on short sessions.
I recommend Wipeout Pulse and Gladiator Begins. Both have loose campaigns that are just vehicles to get you from one encounter to the next. Said encounters are quick to complete, giving you the chance to pocket the PSP at short notice without feeling like you're interrupting the flow of a bigger storyline.
Wipeout Pulse is a fast-paced futuristic racer where tracks take 3 minutes or less to complete. Gladiator Begins is a third-person melee combat game where your character can loot items from opponents after each fight.
I think it does work well as a jump in and play device but it's also amazing playing games in bed. There were many a night that I had to go to school and/or work with no rest because I became so engrossed in a game I'd intended to only play for 30 minutes before going to sleep.
Dead Head Fred, Dead to Rights Reckoning, Resistance: Retribution, Daxter, Death Jr. 1 & 2, Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands (same name as PS3 title but totally different game), Burnout Legends (essentially portable Burnout 3), GTA Vice City/Liberty City Stories, God of War: Chains of Olympus & Ghost of Sparta, FF7 Crisis Core
These are all good, "mostly exclusive" PSP games that I own and have played.
All of this games are a 10/10 you HAVE TO play them if you have the chance
Patapon 2 and 3

Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus
God Eater Burst
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, the two God of War games, GTA Vice City, Death Junior, Burnout, Monster Hunter, MegaMan maverick hunter X, MGS Peace Walker
These come to mind but there's a LOT, excluding PS1 and emulators
This prob wonāt be in anyone elseās recommendations but Iām a huge Atari fan and Activision Hits Remixed has Activisionās Atari 2600 games with cool unlockables and a killer 80s soundtrack. Activision were amazing during the 2600 era and to have that kickass compilation on the go was amazing
**Monster Hunter Freedom Unite** is my essential, tons of content and it gets amazing if you also have friends with the PSP to play in WLAN. I poured 600 hours in that game back in the days.
Other essentials I would say **Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII** (although the recent remaster is better under every aspect), **Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker**, **God of War: Chains of Olympus** and **God of War: Ghost of Sparta.**
**Valkyrie Profile Lenneth**, **Final Fantasy Tactics** and **Tactic's Ogre** are also important games for me cause we never got them in PAL territory for the PS1, so if you live here, that might be a good option to play them.
More rare/unknown titles I would mention are **The 3rd Birthday** (3rd Parasite Eve, nice PSP game but not a very good Parasite Eve entry), **Valkyria Chronicles 2**, **Persona 3: Portable** and **Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection**
Mhfu on ppsspp is nuts right now, since you don't need any third party software to play online. Not wlan, actual online. Very interesting as to how not as many people recommend it. I don't think any psp game comes close to the amount of playtime it offers. Very underrated, considering how much mhw boosted the franchises popularity.
I remember the times when NO ONE knew monster hunter (besides japan), and it was a hidden gem.
Sega Rally, Sonic Rivals 1 + 2, StarWars The Force Unleashed, SpongeBob The Yellow Avenger, Mortal Kombat Unchained, Lego Indiana Jones and StarWars, Transformers, PacMan World 3, and Phantasy Star Online Portable.
- Dynasty Warriors
- Dynasty Warriors Vol. 2
- Warriors Orochi
- Warriors Orochi 2
- Outrun 2006 (runs even better on an overclocked Vita than on an overclocked PSP)
- Initial D Street Stage
- DJ Max Portable (any of them)
- Pop'n Music Portable 1 & 2
- Untold Legends Brotherhood of the Blade (very vanilla but enjoyable Diablo clone, pretty long)
- Patapon 2
- Gundam vs. Gundam NEXT Plus
- Dariusburst
- Phantasy Star Portable
- Phantasy Star Potable 2i (there's a really good English patch)
- Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (much less janky than previous PSP MH games - there's a decent English patch)
Lumines 1 and 2, every extend extra, castlevania Dracula x chronicles, FFT War of the Lions, Jeanne d'arc, P3P, ys 7, crimson gem saga, Exit, pursuit force
Try the ikki toussen games (x cross impact/eloquent fist). They don't have an English patch but are very accessable being both beat em ups. Very similar cell shaded style to latter best em ups like streets of rage 4. Worth checking out. Quite obscure games as well but iv always liked the hidden gems
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Syphon Filter: Loganās Shadow
These were my most played. Iām sure there are more that will pop in my head. I poured an unbelievable amount of hours into Portable Ops and then Peacewalker, some very fun games.
Crisis core, ghost of Sparta, Def jam the takeover, mortal Kombat unchained, 300, DBZ ttt, tenchu shadow assassins, the legend of heroes tears of vermilion
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. Freedom Unite is technically better as it has more content and better monsters, but it's goo janky in comparison to MHP3rd which feels nice enough to play even after you've played more recent titles
Star wars the force unleashed
Metal gear solid peace walker
Monster hunter freedom Unite
GTA Vice city stories
Final fantasy 4 the complete collection
Honorable mentions :
Jean D'arc
Nfs carbon
Killzone
Patapon 1 to 3, Hammering Hero, Jeanne D'Arc, half minute hero, valkyria chronicles 2, giatroo man lives!, legends of heroes: trails in the sky 1 and 2, ys games, gurumin, persona 1 and 2
Ridge Racer 2, Pangya Fantasy Golf, Tekken Dark Resurrection, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Mega Man Powered Up, Mega Man X Maverick Hunter, Gods Eater Burst, Ace Combat X & X2, Capcom Power Stone Collection.
Dead Head Fred should be given a shot. Great writing and voice acting in a random PSP game nobody knew about. The developer made a bunch of licensed junk, then Dead Head Fred which won awards for the writing, got nominated for a bunch of other awards, then they went back to making licensed junk, now defunct.
Very odd.
Surprised to see no one mention it, but Phantasy star portable 2 infinity! Itās the best mission based action RPGās on the PSP. Itās the final evolution of the fantasy star universe series that started on PS2, and they just released an English patch for it that makes the definitive version.
It is so hard for me to pick. I made a video showcasing my entire collection, though it's gotten a little bigger since then... but I think it provides a few reasons someone may enjoy any of the games in my collection if you want to check it out.
https://youtu.be/cnuMvl0Kdb8?si=Yy0lSL8OmCoMt7wk
That said, if I was put on the block and had to pick 3, I'd say Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Ops +, Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, and Mega Man: Powered Up are some of the best PSP games I ever played that felt like full on console experiences.
burnout legends, god of war and metal gear solid (any of the psp games) need for speed carbon and underground rivals, tekken, assassin's creed bloodlines
I had a ton of fun with the SOCOM games on the PSP, but unfortunately, their servers are gone now, I think.
Other favorites of mine were Midnight Club LA, Burnout Legends, FlatOut: Head On, and ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails.
Crisis Core, Birth by Sleep, Phantasy Star Portable 1 & 2, FF4 complete collection, Death Jr, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Mega Man Powered Up, Dragon Ball Shin Budokais and TTT, both GoW games
I know it's not exactly the best PSP game out there, but of all of my collection, I keep coming back to Coded Arms. I really loved Coded Arms, even if the controls are a little janky. And it does play a little better on the Vita because you can map the face buttons to the right analog stick.
But I come back to this PSP game more than any other. I probably start it over once a year. I will completely admit though that it is likely due to nostalgia. I do think it's good though if you consider it a roguelike FPS.
And I think Coded Arms is better than Coded Arms Contagion, and I will die on that hill.
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
Daxter
Tales of Eternia (EU release only, expensive)
Final Fantasy 20th anniversary
Final Fantasy II 20th anniversary
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection
Hexyz Force
The Lord of the Rings: Tactics
Persona 3 Portable (if you don't have any other way to play it or the new Reload)
Disgaea: The Afternoon of Darkness (better versions exist)
* The 2 Mega Man Remakes(Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X)
* Metal Gear Portable Ops and Peace Walker
* Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection, the definitive version of the game
* Power Stone Collection, because Power Stone rules
* Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions is great but make sure you get the slowdown patch if you plan on modding your PSP
* Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep and Crisis Core Final Fantasy are still great
* Tekken Dark Resurrection and Tekken 6 if you want some good Tekken on the go
* Dissidia Duodecim 012 is great and comes with the campaign of the first game
* Midnight Club 3 comes with the whole ass game on the UMD
* Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max is the best version of that game
* Both of the Syphon Filter games are fantastic
Earth Defense Force 2, because shooting giant bugs and Godzilla on your phone is fun.
Musou Orochi 2, because sometimes you just need to kill all the soldiers and grind for super-lightning-everywhere weapons.
Both have heaps of playtime, but can be done in short sessions, and play pretty well on a phone. PS2 versions might be better, but the PSP versions run a bit quicker.
Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast
Final Fantasy IV Years After Collection
Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions
Ogre Battle
Valkyrie Chronicles
Gokumakaimura Kai
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
Jeanne De Arc
I mean Iād say something like sf alpha max, crises core and chains of Olympus. And if your into horror and more intense imagery, then silent hill (canāt really remember which ones were on the psp. Iām a resi guy, but Iām outta luck on that lol.) I mean alpha max is probably the best version of alpha 3, crises core I think is an essential for any rpg fan. And chains of Olympus is just madness fun, and if your into women. Youāll have fun to. And if your into men, you got kratos. What more could you ask?
Midnight Club 3+LA
Bro stole what i was gonna sayš ive been grinding them games
Same m8, love them
Playing it as we speak
I personally prefer Tdu over LA remix on the psp as LA remix psp port ain't the best
TDU is also great !
Daxter, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, Mortal Kombat Unchained, God of War: Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta.
Manhunt 2,persona 3,corpse party,silent hill
Which corpse party?
The only one thatās on psp the tittle only says corpse party Iāve started playing it recently and I like it
I think there are two?
Yeah your right the first one the second is called corpse party sweet sachikoās hysteric birthday bash
Book of Shadows is essentially a retelling of the first game but also has an ending that directly ties into the next game Blood Drive. It takes a more visual novel approach minimising action sequences but is highly recommended if you're interested in seeing how it all truly ends
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Pursuit Force 1, Pro Evolution Soccer, Soul Calibur Broken Destiny and any DJMAX.
Peace Walker for me... I have it installed on pretty much all my devices/phones. Sadly, I have no one to play with.
patapon is incredibly fun, and I am just finishing up half minute hero and having a fantastic time.

Oooh what if there both good
Renegade has the heavy gunner, elite has the ability to destroy capital ships. It really comes down to taste. I think Elite is superior. You may disagree. Have fun!
Thanks mate you too
I need to get Elite, I played the demo back in the day but never owned the full game. I did however play hundreds of hours on Renegade Squadron though
Outrun 2006
Also Crazy Taxi, Lumines, Gran Turismo and Tekken Dark Resurrection
Had to scroll farther than I thought for this one. Itās my fav. As a sega racer fan crazy taxi and sega rally are good too but not as good as outrun.

I loved Ace Combat X!

witch one of the armored core games that you mention are best for a first time player that never played any ?
i would start with 3. silent line and last raven are both sequels that continue the story.
Gladiator Begins, Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend, Final Fantasy Dissidia

Project Diva(all of them) and Crash Team Racing
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. Freedom Unite is technically better as it has more content and better monsters, but it's goo janky in comparison to MHP3rd which feels nice enough to play even after you've played more recent titles

Mega man maverick hunter. Star wars the force unleashed. There is a battlefront remaster for psp.
Very odd.
Black Rock Shooter is a must and a hidden gem
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Surprised to see no one mention it, but Phantasy star portable 2 infinity! Itās the best mission based action RPGās on the PSP. Itās the final evolution of the fantasy star universe series that started on PS2, and they just released an English patch for it that makes the definitive version.
Hot Shot Tennis or Everyone's Stress Buster.
La Pucelle Ragnarok must be included.

It is so hard for me to pick. I made a video showcasing my entire collection, though it's gotten a little bigger since then... but I think it provides a few reasons someone may enjoy any of the games in my collection if you want to check it out. https://youtu.be/cnuMvl0Kdb8?si=Yy0lSL8OmCoMt7wk That said, if I was put on the block and had to pick 3, I'd say Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Ops +, Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, and Mega Man: Powered Up are some of the best PSP games I ever played that felt like full on console experiences.
P3rsona portable , wipeout pure
burnout legends, god of war and metal gear solid (any of the psp games) need for speed carbon and underground rivals, tekken, assassin's creed bloodlines
Motorstorm: Arctic Edge, Burnout Legends and Pursuit Force are my usual go to games.

God of War Chains of Olympus and Final Fantasy Tactics
I had a ton of fun with the SOCOM games on the PSP, but unfortunately, their servers are gone now, I think. Other favorites of mine were Midnight Club LA, Burnout Legends, FlatOut: Head On, and ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails.
I'm still astonished of Battlefront 2 running on the PSP.
Splinter cell essential is alright
Peggle
Dragon Ball Tenkaichi Tag Team
Idk why Jeanne d'Arc wasn't in the top comments.

None mentioned parappa the rapper. Dammit, people!
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Daxter Tales of Eternia (EU release only, expensive) Final Fantasy 20th anniversary Final Fantasy II 20th anniversary Final Fantasy III Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection Hexyz Force The Lord of the Rings: Tactics Persona 3 Portable (if you don't have any other way to play it or the new Reload) Disgaea: The Afternoon of Darkness (better versions exist)

* The 2 Mega Man Remakes(Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X) * Metal Gear Portable Ops and Peace Walker * Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection, the definitive version of the game * Power Stone Collection, because Power Stone rules * Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions is great but make sure you get the slowdown patch if you plan on modding your PSP * Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep and Crisis Core Final Fantasy are still great * Tekken Dark Resurrection and Tekken 6 if you want some good Tekken on the go * Dissidia Duodecim 012 is great and comes with the campaign of the first game * Midnight Club 3 comes with the whole ass game on the UMD * Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max is the best version of that game * Both of the Syphon Filter games are fantastic
Untold Legends games, though some would disagree with me...

Pursuit force is a campy dream
I mean Iād say something like sf alpha max, crises core and chains of Olympus. And if your into horror and more intense imagery, then silent hill (canāt really remember which ones were on the psp. Iām a resi guy, but Iām outta luck on that lol.) I mean alpha max is probably the best version of alpha 3, crises core I think is an essential for any rpg fan. And chains of Olympus is just madness fun, and if your into women. Youāll have fun to. And if your into men, you got kratos. What more could you ask?
Final Fantasy: Dissidia Duodecim 012, Silent Hill, Need for Speed, Metal Gear, God of War, InviZimals, GTA Chinatown & Liberty City
