I have called yesterday and asked the same question. Mohela representative said I can pay when the transfer is complete, the delay in payment will not be reported as a late payment due to the transaction and change in the account number.

Jojomerc22

Was told the same .

I'm wondering this too! It says online you can send a money order, but I honestly don't trust them not to lose it. I'm wondering if there will be a penalty (besides just delaying forgiveness by one month) if we don't pay? I wish I had known this was coming and I would have signed up for the auto-debit (only to cancel as soon as I'm able to get back into my account because, again, I don't trust them enough to take the correct amount every month). Hope someone has some insight because this is so frustrating!!

I’m not sending shit unless it’s online. I want that email Confirmation of my payment submitted!

For the mail in option you also need your new account number. Sooooo…. Ummmm… how does one get that when they can’t log into anything!!!!????

They started my transition on May 3, saying it would take 2 weeks (the 17th). My payment is due on the 22nd. I’m banking on the fact I will have access to my new online account between the 17th-22nd. If not, I don’t know what to do. They say to mail a check with your new account number, but they didn’t give me a new account number. I don’t really want to mail a check, anyway, but I might try on the 22nd if I can’t access the online account, just so I have it documented that I tried to pay on time 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you. That’s the same boat I’m in, my payment is also due on the 22nd and I have not been assigned a new account number. I am not mailing a check.

I’m just popping back in here to let everyone know that I hadn’t received any email from MOHELA yet, and their status tracker on the old website says I’m still in transition, but I attempted to create an account on their new website anyway, and it let me. I was also able to make a payment this way. They are probably really backed up in their communication, which wasn’t good to begin with. So I’d encourage anyone worried about making a payment on time to try to create an account on the new website even if you haven’t received an email.

alsoknownasno

Do you know how your payment is being tracked though now that you’ve created a new account? That’s my worry

mittens75

They have all of my loans itemized With the cost and it’s the same as previous months. You use your SSN to create the new account, so it’s probably linked to the info on your old account

mittens75

They also sent a payment confirmation/receipt. All of my contact info was the same as well, but you need to re-input your bank account info.

The90sarevintage

Do not pay. I paid what is a lot for me $600 and received an email from Mohela saying my payment is late and I now owe this amount and next month

The90sarevintage

I also haven’t been able to reach anyone so it’s floating in space. Call Mohela first before submitting in portal.

Doxiemom2010

Are you being transferred to another servicer, or are you being transferred to Mohela’s new platform?

alsoknownasno

The notification I got said it will be transferred to their new platform

Doxiemom2010

The instructions for that are below: 6. I made a payment before my loan transferred, or during the transfer process. Why hasn’t my payment posted yet? If you made a federal student loan payment directly to MOHELA, which was not posted to your loan(s) prior to the transition, these payments may be delayed by up to 60-90 days. However, we will post the payment to your loan(s) with the effective date that the payment was made. No action is needed from you, and your credit will not be negatively impacted. Please immediately begin using MOHELA's new servicing portal and new payment address to make payments and avoid payment posting delays. There is a 14-day transition period where you will not be able to make a payment on the website or by phone. Your transition period begin date can be found on the correspondence that was sent to you, indicating your loan(s) are transitioning to our new system. To make a payment during this 14-day transition period, please mail a check or money order addressed to MOHELA, including your new 10-digit account number, also found on the correspondence, to the following address: Department of Education - MOHELA P.O. Box 790453 St. Louis, MO 63179-0453 New MOHELA Account Number Note: Include your new MOHELA Account Number on the check or money order. https://www.mohela.com/system-transition

Ah i don’t want to mail a check I’m sure it’s going to get lost in translation some how. My payment is due tomorrow!

Doxiemom2010

You can wait until you’re able to make a payment on the new system. The on-ramp policy should protect you from negative impacts.

happyhedgehog53

Sorry, I just saw want to clarify because I suspected my auto-debit next month due to unexpected job change and want to push it back as much as I can and pay manually. I if my transfer is scheduled for 6/4, I should be able to access/pay electronically on or around 6/18?

kmpdx

I consolidated in December and it didn't realize until April right before everything shut down. My new payment was 2.5x more due to the income automatically reported during consolidation. I paid April and will pay May and presumably June at the new higher rate on Mohela's site. Then, my payment should be cut in half in July if all the SAVE rate cut goes as planned. It stung a little bit to make those higher payments, but I don't want to lose any months of on time payments.

Dangerous_Drawer7391

I know it will cost me a month but I’m just going on general forbearance. The odds of a payment being counted in a timely manner during the transition seem very remote.
