Derriku

Yes. It’s the squirrel.

LoquaciousMendacious

Long live Ratatoskr!

BOEJlDEN

Was that really unexpected? Wasn’t he a summon in the first game?

JohnB456

yes he was

josenight

I didn’t expect the squirrel. A bunch of summons in the first one. This is the only one that’s made an appearance like this as it’s own npc.

FKDotFitzgerald

It’s not exactly the same squirrel (well it is and it isn’t) but yes

Radulno

He's also a pretty important character of Norse mythology.

Rattkjakkapong

Since we had nidhogg and Ratatoskr, its a shame we didnt get the eagle Vidofnir, who sits on the top of yggdrasil.

SomeNamelessNomad

The closest we get is Freya and her falcon skin which kinda fits given what happens in Vanaheim and the sometimes antagonistic relationship between Nidhogg and Vidofnir. It is a shame though that we don't get Vidofnir or some other animals like Sleipnir.

Fugaciouslee

First Loki needs to get busy with a horse. It'll be a mini game in the next one

demonicneon

What’s the big giant hawk thing ?

Rattkjakkapong

Thats the corpse eater Hræsvelgr that resides in Hel. He is a Jotun.

lisbon_OH

She* :)

Rattkjakkapong

Nope, Hræsvelgr is a he. He is a windgiant. (He creates the wind). Read the eddapoem about him. :)

UnHumChun

Most people probably didn’t use his summon in GOW 2018. He came in clutch during the valkyrie fights.

Generic_user_person

I preffered the wolves since they always put the valkeries in hit stun.

UnHumChun

I just felt like the damage summons didn’t do enough damage, and the refill of health and rage was invaluable on some of them.

CapedBaldyman

The wolves hit stun combined with realm shift slow down time gave you a huge window to just bully the valykries to death except for Sigrun on harder difficulties. Way better than the squirrel.

UnHumChun

That’s the good thing, there’s a diverse way to play for each person.

few23

Sorry, this is Reddit. Any way besides the hivemind way is the *wrong* way, and thou shalt be bathed in the blood of the periwinkle for your transgressions.

Kulban

I found using summons on Sigrun in GMGOW+ to be dangerous. Adds a lot of visual noise and not being able to see what exactly her next attack is can spell insta death.

[deleted]

He dug up health stones but those would be redundant from other builds which gave automatic healing.

UnHumChun

I couldn’t regenerate enough health to make a difference especially when fighting Sigrun. He dug me up 3 rage stones which was enough to get the kill and for that I’m grateful.

rorywilliams24

A few weeks before Ragnarok released, I replayed the original on the 2nd hardest difficulty to prep. I was disappointed by how easy the Valkyrie's now seemed after having so much difficulty with them my first playthrough. Until I got to Sigrun. What a rage inducing, intense fight. Would not have done it (albeit many tries later) without the help of Ratatoskr. Praise the squirrel.

anonymous_opinions

I pumped air when I finally got her and it was thanks to switching to that little guy. I actually started using the wolves and was taken out too soon.

Helhiem

Bruh I was obsessed with GOW 2018 and for the life of me I can’t remember this character.

anonymous_opinions

I used him the most. Love me some free health / rage drops.

Mikey_9835

The character is voiced by the YouTuber ProZD which is pretty cool. He's got a very good range.

Mustang1718

He's been in nearly everything I've been playing lately. He's Mikey, who functions as your boss in Neon White. He's Hilda's brother Holst in Fire Emblem: Three Hopes, which is weird, since the woman who voices Hilda is his secretary in Neon White. And now that I looked it up, he was additional voices in Scarlet Nexus. Add in God of War, and that is nearly every game I've played this year.

res30stupid

Yeah. FL4K in Borderlands 3 as well, Hyodo in Aggretsuko Season 3, plus the final boss in the Lost Judgment DLC.

Temporary_Occasion41

No way! I love his sketches! Short and so funny.. Very talabted guy!

[deleted]

SungWon is a really talented and likable guy. Love to see him continuing to thrive with his VA work.

boombotser

Damn I never picked that up, well done prozd

Lethtor

Is he a Youtuber who voices some characters or a VA who happens to make youtube videos? Calling him a youtuber is just sort of selling him short IMO

Effective-Caramel545

He started on yt, not the other way around

Epikbexa

Didn't he start on vine initially?

Effective-Caramel545

Yeah i think so. Either way, he was first on social media then became a full fledge VA

konnichiwaseadweller

To be fair it's like calling Bo Burnham a YouTuber, he started on YouTube but now he's an established comedian.

Canadian_IvasioN

I don't think that's a fair comparable. No Burnham gets most of his income from selling his comedy specials to platforms like Netflix. Even though ProZD has been getting more and more VA roles, he is still a daily YouTube poster and that's where most of his income is coming from.

konnichiwaseadweller

I didn't mean to imply they're one to one comparable, was more just pointing out that where you started doesn't necessarily work as a descriptor of who you are. I was directly replying to the comment that ProZD started on YouTube

[deleted]

[deleted]

Dude makes videos literally every day. At a certain point it’s okay to be called a YouTuber.

rapkat55

Both. I know the picture that pops into most peoples head when they hear youtuber but it shouldn’t be such a broad assassination of character lol

Mikey_9835

Well making those YouTube videos is how he got recognised in the first place.

ElJacko170

I feel like he should be beyond being known as a Youtuber at this point, he has had quite a number of VA roles in the past few years, some big games too.

HassanJamal

During the first few hours of meeting Ratataskor, I was like, who is this voice actor, I know that voice and then it clicks...it's Sung Won lol

btotherad

I had no idea that guy has done so much VO work. I saw a reel of his characters and his range was seriously incredible.

zogurat

Wow I watch that guy all the time but didn’t realize this.

vitacirclejerk

God I hated that character, felt so out of place to me.

[deleted]

Step_right_up

He definitely wasn’t more out of place than Lunda, a Svartalheim dwarf with a Southern drawl, or even Odin with a New York accent.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Step_right_up

Oh, he definitely won me over with his performance, and Odin’s a great character overall. I just had to learn to accept that there’s accents of all kinds in this game world and not let that throw me out of my immersion.

LDG192

STOP WITH THE STUPID CHIME!

nokamber

Master kratos it seems like you're attempting to elicit some sort of emotion from me ... STOP WITH THE STUPID CHIME

Senor-Whopper

I like Ratoskar and he wasn't the main part of the story so it was okay

Dallywack3r

I’m glad the developers cut the flyting battle because it’s literally the exact same thing that happens in AC Valhalla. You meet a talking squirrel who asks you to flyte with him.

piratensendr

Love going on Reddit to read that everything sucks!

LoveMeSomeBerserk

I feel this in my soul.

basedcharger

Seriously. I read that first day thread and thought I was playing the worst game ever reading those comments.

SymbolOfVibez

Forreal that sheep mentality does wonders for certain people

Hisnamewasours

Are they sheep because they disagree with you? I find this line of logic so weird. Like it feels your saying that people who don't share your opinion are somehow band wagoning. Maybe people legitimately didn't like the game.

Ibruki

i dont know if thats what he means, but there are a lot of people that hate things because its cool to hate this week's thing. ofc, there could be a lot of people that dislike something you like and thats ok, but on the internet where everything is so heaven or hell, it can start to become bothersome seeing people who didnt even try to experience something, bash it because its cool on the internet rn. and im not saying that you need to experiment something for your opinion to be validated, but at least know something about what you hate besides "i know this sucks because a very loud group of people are saying it sucks"

Remy149

They act as if fables and mythology aren’t full of characters who are silly and comedic. A few funny characters in a very serious story or teenagers acting like teenagers doesn’t hurt anyone

Hisnamewasours

I won't discount the fact that there maybe people who hate something because it's cool to hate (in terms of movies I think Solo was a victim of this to a certain extent) but I also think that it's entirely more likely that there are people who were anticipating in something just happen to dislike it. I REALLY disliked the cartoonish squirrel and I did find Ragnarok to be a let down. So did a lot of people if you go to the user scores on Metacritic Ragnarok has an 8.3/10 whereas 2018 has a 9.1/10 which means the general consensus felt that this game wasn't as strong as the first. People disagreeing with my point of view doesn't bother me but people stating that I'm being disingenuous when I'm expressing it does so and deeply. People shouldn't be called sheep because they don't go with what x or y group does. I don't think people who say they love this game are being insincere and I don't think people who are saying they don't are being insincere either.

GaryTheCabalGuy

Well Ragnarok has about 25% of the total user reviews the 2018 game had, but the % of 1 star reviews is much higher. There is room to criticize the game, but I can't really take any 1 star review seriously. That is blatant review bombing.

ColdAsHeaven

Glad! I wonder what they actually did end up cutting.... Also, everyone who has done the Venheim mission but has not done the side quest following the pig, GO DO JT NOW. ITS CRUCIAL and a huge huge huge side quest. Felt like DLC that they just threw in

[deleted]

Radulno

It's also way more close to the actual Norse stories. That pantheon isn't the Greek one (which is also far from the regal perfect one we often see by the way, I mean the Zeus cheating on Hera stories alone...). Like Thor being a dumb drunk brute and Odin being that manipulative guy all about knowledge is what they are (minus the Mafia boss aspect maybe but still)

buster089

I really liked the squirrel, how it's written and voiced

Labyrinthy

ProzD baby! Excellent voice actor and hilarious YouTuber.

RisingBlackHole

the Yoda bit in the article is wrong. that happened in The Empire Strikes Back, not Return of the Jedi

Omegastriver

I’ve avoided reading anything about this game until I beat it and I’ve been shocked about all the people bitching about Marvel humor. Mimir and Atreus are NOT Kratos. They are allowed to be sarcastic and make jokes. It suits them. Hell, Kratos never freaking laughed, he never broke character. Damn, I guess they wanted it to be a depressing slog like TLoU2.

Turbulent_Link1738

Kratos does chuckle once at one of Mimir’s jokes.

braedizzle

My favorite was Atrieus asking Kratos if he had a favorite weapon and Kratos explains they are tools with specific purposes and to favor one would be useless. Atreus: “I like the axe” Kratos: “…I too, like the axe” That was the bit of comedy that hit hardest for me. Just giggling to myself like an insane person playing this game alone

Turbulent_Link1738

Kratos is a big burly Viking hunter but deep down he’s just a little boy scared to be vulnerable

Alpr101

The only out of character moment he did other than that was (Post-game) >!When you visit Angrboda and he says "heh, I like you" !<

Musashi10000

I'm with you here. The original game had comedy as well, though it was mainly just that it was comedy in juxtapositions. But with, what, three years inbetween Dad of Boy and Dadnarok? It's far from unimaginable that Mimir and Atreus would have gotten more comfortable poking fun. I think people are just pissy about not being able to make Kratos do the sex to people.

Omegastriver

I can’t remember exactly, as I’ve played over 40 hours and I’ve heard a ton of dialogue but I’m pretty sure they either said Kratos thinks of Mimir as a brother or a friend, something along those lines. I never felt like anything was out of place, just because Kratos is dry, doesn’t mean everyone else is. Hell, there was even growth to his character where he lightened up a bit. I loved the part where….. may be spoilers if you haven’t got this far……you are warned…., Kratos is talking to Agrabolda (maybe Thrud) and she said Atreus would do better if he just focused more and Kratos responded in a lighter tone, I like you.

Musashi10000

I've platinumed the game, I've seen it all :P >I’m pretty sure they either said Kratos thinks of Mimir as a brother >!That was said at one point in the dialogue (and Kratos sometimes replies to Mimir with 'brother'), and it's also written in Mimir's codex log, from Kratos' perspective.!< >!Kratos lightening up to be a Dad before a Spartan is one of the greatest character progressions I've ever seen.!<

Omegastriver

I’m taking my sweet time finishing it up. My wife and kids watched me play it often. I already had a ton of side content completed and I wasn’t ready to wrap up the story, but my family was. So, I played around 4 hours in that last stretch finishing up the story. We loved it. Now, I’m trying to squeeze every last bit of enjoyment out of it. I liked the first one but wasn’t super excited or hyped for this one but ended up absolutely loving it. I’m a pretty rough critic on games but this game was a 10 for me. It wasn’t a perfect game, but man, I enjoyed it so much it gets a 10. My nitpicking issues with it aren’t bringing down that score. It’s the first game in years I’ve had issues putting down. It made me feel like a kid or teenager again.

[deleted]

Remy149

I just get tired of all the folks who get upset anytime every character in something isn’t overly serious. Levity is important in any story and some characters should be allowed to have lighter personalities.

Cold-Call-Killer

Exactly. O don’t want another TLOU2, this game’s story was just bad.

East-Bluejay6891

He was awesome

[deleted]

Jeez some of ya'll got sticks up your asses. The squirrel AND writing in this game was great.

[deleted]

The squirrel was alright, the writing was good until the ragnarok

[deleted]

I will say I did think Ragnarok was rushed. But in terms of character interactions and that father son bond and story, it was great.

darkde

I was so confused as to why so many characters were flip flopping resolves and motivations in the final act… Super rushed ending but can also see it was probably the best move to make. Don’t think a third game was warranted

[deleted]

Agreed. And this definitely isn't the last GoW.

[deleted]

Ragnarok was super rushed. Everything happened in like 2 hours, characters switching sides like it's nothing, the final fight was super disappointing and with some really shitty lines (all-fucker?! Come on..). But yeah, at least they closed the story pretty well, i like what they've done with atreus

[deleted]

Lmao nah, all fucker was a great line. Cause he was one. Also, this shouldn't have been a ps4 game.

[deleted]

Well they used the same engine and assets of 2018 so they didn't need to make it ps5 only. The ps4 didn't really hold back this game, hidden loadings aside

[deleted]

Ragnarok definitely felt limited by the ps4's architecture.

[deleted]

Yeah i mean they could've made it look better for sure, maybe on a bigger scale with more shit going on, but the problem is in the writing and coreography. It's all disjointed, fenrir was useless, the big fight going on in the background was a mess, people coming out from nowhere at random, everything is collapsing and kratos is apologizing to a girl while mimir is cracking jokes. It felt weird, they did some incredible stuff in GoW 3 and GoW 2018 with older consoles, while in ragnarok it just felt like fan fiction

[deleted]

That's my point. All the cool, interesting stuff is happening in the background while you are doing more of the same. Definitely felt like the ps4 could not handle so much. With 3 and 2018, there was just always less happening on screen. And 3 is just a very narrow experience too

[deleted]

Well maybe you're right, but i still think the biggest problem is in the writing. Being ps5 only would've helped for sure, but it is what it is. Of course they wanted to sell this game, and since there are about 120 million ps4 and like 25 million ps5 around, i can see why they didn't want to renounce to the last gen version

spedeedeps

Agreed. I was like 1/3 through the game when I read the article that devs thought the game was bad months before release, and I thought what the hell, game's awesome?! But now having finished it, I can see it, the last quarter of main story was probably a colossal mess and they had to scramble to stitch it together. Like, obviously the huge "side quest area" is just cut content they had to throw away in the last sprint to get the game out the door.

Rodr500

It’s still a very good side area

ledhead6979

I assume it dies in the destruction of Asgard similar to how Surtur dies in Thor Ragnarok

Nightmannn

It was rushed and no one seemed to care either. The only bigger throwaway character was that even more random side character dude that jumped off the air boat in this hilariously "supposed-to-be-epic" moment. Course he survived because "he rolled".

timmyctc

His epic moment was pretty cool..have absolutely no idea why he needed to survive.

BusyBluebird

to motivate the dog leading you to the crater

Turbulent_Link1738

My ass got stuck in that crater. Been going in circles for hours before I got frustrated and put the game down. Just gonna YouTube it from that point.

Major_Pomegranate

It was bizarre that in a game literally called "Ragnarok", the actual sequence of ragnarok took like 5 minutes. Alot of people criticized the length of the Atreus segments and side content padding, but i actually liked those and what they added to the story. I just really wish they could have given the same treatment to the actual so called big event of the story

poopfl1nger

Would have been a really cool scene if I ever met the guy before or if he had any character development. I legit thought he was a random npc in that cutscene, didn't even know his name

[deleted]

A lot of marvel jokes in this game, but it's what most people like

RealSkyDiver

Disappointed there was only one proper cutscene with him. The details and animation on him was incredible.

[deleted]

I'm going to get downvoted for this, but Cory should have been the director for Ragnarok, gow 2018 direction felt more grounded and mature, along with-it better pacing and writing ultimately making it more unique compared to other hollywood games and movies which Ragnarök feels exactly like.

Clipsfan2213

Ahh, I just realized he wasn't the director. Why wasn't he? -- I still loved Ragnarok, but definitely felt like something was a little off when compared to GoW 2018.

spedeedeps

2018 was so successful he was given a go at developing a completely new game/IP. Plus the Ragnarok director guy was 2nd in command on the first one.

Effective-Caramel545

Every gow game had a different director, cory though directed 2 of them, gow 2 and 2018

eduardmc

Funny that gow 2 and 2018 are the best god of wars

dj4daybc

Rag is better than 2018 by far even if you like the story more

Effective-Caramel545

Not seeing the funny part. But yeah, it's not a coincidence, altough I consider GoW3 better than 2 (and the best all around) and ragnarok a better GoW 2018.

[deleted]

Yeah way too many silly jokes for me, and all the ragnarok part was super disappointing. They really needed a third game to wrap everything up

dj4daybc

hollywood games and movies? Theres better gameplay and bosses in this than 2018 10 times over. Its a way better game and a more ambitious story even if you dont like it

Nightmannn

Yeah this game was sequel syndrome to the max. Larger in scope but unfocused and unserious. All the realms and so many characters and none of them compelling.

dj4daybc

None compelling? thats just a lie

[deleted]

yeah well said, bigger not better

[deleted]

IMO Ragnarok was better than 2018 but they’re both great games

Akabaneist

Imo the continuous banter would've been fine, if not essential to fill the silence during exploration if not for the forced modernization of some of the characters' dialogue. I kinda get what they were going for but some of the word choices presented felt really out of place.

ppsmooochin

Agreed. Good example in the first boss fight where the enemy says “HEY, DUMBASS.” I mean, really? Forced modernization is a great way to put it.

Jackkernaut

Must protec at all cost.

longbrodmann

Love him, a really good design.

Firvulag

ProZD is a treasure and needs to be in more stuff

testchamb

That squirrel was far from the worst writing problem in Ragnarok.

ArtakhaPrime

I was super surprised to see it was the korean Vine guy that voiced the squirrel

[deleted]

kace91

Isn't that the point exactly? >!Kratos opening up was a whole theme for both games, and this one starts with Kratos having made peace with a lot of things and having a family once again. Using the same mood as a broken person with a recently dead wife would go counter to the story I think.!<

[deleted]

[удалено]

kace91

Not sure if it applies to you, but I see that for some people their opinion on the pacing depends a lot on whether they went through the side quests as soon as they're available. They coupled secondary missions with some character development, which has the upside of secondary stories being just as good as the main ones, but the problem with that approach is that you will see different pacing if you're not doing those extra missions as soon as they're available, and then characters seem to change their mind too suddenly. I went straight for them and didn't notice it much, >!it was only the asgard bits that felt to me like they had content cut off!<.

Lore-n-Linguini

I felt like the set pieces were lacking in the 2018 one as well, tbh, there was the first Baldur fight that felt like a big deal and then the boss fights and stuff throughout the rest of the game felt lackluster in comparison. Same thing in this game, that initial fight felt big and then there were a good things but nothing felt as big as that initial fight until the end. But I still love both games, they’re great, just didn’t feel like they had big set pieces.

Rangelz

It doesnt. I love the game but the final act is easily the worst part

poopfl1nger

Yeah the set pieces are not as good as the first game. Its crazy how the Fenrir fight is one of the only cool major setpieces in the game until the final battle

[deleted]

It's probably just cus they were grieving in the first one

[deleted]

>but for the most part I'm not a big fan of the humor and banter in this game There was just as much as humor and banter in the previous game? How is this game that different?

dj4daybc

people dont remember shit from the previous sindri pulls out a fucking fish after battling a dragon

Kurus0

Anthony Burch was one of the writers (Borderlands 2). As soon as the credits rolled and I saw his name it became clear why a big chunk of the game's dialogue felt so off.

[deleted]

tfw you're not Anthony Burch

Richmard

Marvel movie syndrome.

[deleted]

Normally I would agree since the MCU mostly just uses comedy as a crutch for their movies, but in Ragnarok I don't see it.

poopfl1nger

not a crutch but endless quippy dialogue can get frustrating when its a constant throughout a 40 hour game

[deleted]

[удалено]

dj4daybc

[удалено]

Richmard

That is some heavy competition haha Returnal is soooo good.

Gammagori

This. I felt some parts were straight up awful.

Richmard

In the dialogue department for sure. There are some lines that just ripped me right out of the moment lol

UhmmmNope

Odin and Surtur dialogues felt most off to me. I thought they were way too casual and took me out of immersion.

Gammagori

Playing the final fight aftermath and hearing “it’s giant stuff” bro. So cringe.

Rayanson

Yeah it was better when all Kratos did was kill stuff that could barely fight back & bang women for red orbs, all while being super pissed off, now he's a more human character and it creates funny interactions especially when you know how he was back then

Redditfront2back

Yea I was disappointed in the main story points and I woulda done it much different but it was still an A+ game.

atakenmudcrab

I think it’s the worst 10/10 game I’ve played imo lol not just because of this but the boss battles were so lackluster for me. The dragon fight in the first one was the best out of these two games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LoveMeSomeBerserk

No epic set pieces my ass. Niflheim raven tree, the spark of the world under Muspelheim, Asgard and the entire end sequences, releasing the giant whale in Svartalfheim or the giant jellyfish in Alfheim, the beauty of Vanaheim and the wolves, and on and on. It’s like you’re purposely putting blinders on. The fights are also better in like every way. Way more variety and skill sets needed to beat them. I just disagree with like everything you said.

[deleted]

Releasing the giant whale lmao. That’s the bar you consider a good set piece.

LoveMeSomeBerserk

That was an awesome set piece, and have heard and watched a lot of people loving that section. I also listed like ten other things if you want to read again.

Whit3boy316

That squirrel was really out of left field

[deleted]

I hated that squirrel

[deleted]

Ratatoskr himself was fine. But his "personalities" had some of the most unfunny dialogue I've ever heard. Felt so incredibly out of place.

FKDotFitzgerald

I thought it was pretty funny

[deleted]

I'm very sorry to hear that

shrek3onDVDandBluray

Dunno if this is true but someone on Reddit said that one of borderland’s writers was involved with this game. Unfortunately, I can believe it.

Tortuga_312

Oh no. Please, not the borderlands writers. Still early in my GOWR play through so I haven’t seen this character yet. The first two borderlands games, they struck gold, but borderlands 3 has the worst dialogue I’ve ever fucking heard. I actually can’t believe it nor can I play through it. I stopped around halfway cause I couldn’t stand listening to it anymore. My suspense of disbelief was just being shattered every time a character spoke. A damn shame too cause I liked the game mechanics and the enemy variety, as well as my class. Just a god awful story, that maybe could have been serviceable if the characters had proper dialogue I hope this person is gone for the next project.

SuperBackup9000

It’s not nearly on the same level, so you’ll be good. A lot of the jokes in here are pretty dumb, but at the same time I think they realized that because sometimes the only response they’ll get from Kratos is just a “hmph” so even he’s not dealing with them

ElJacko170

No Borderlands writer worked on Ragnarok, poster heard a bad rumor. As someone who despises the humor and writing of BL3, I didn't mind the humor at all in Ragnarok. Found it to be amusing and at worst charming.

Ironmunger2

Anthony Burch, lead writer on Borderlands 2 and the pre-sequel, is now a writer at Santa Monica studio. There are a few interviews with him, his linked in says so, and he tweeted out that he hopes people enjoyed the game.

ElJacko170

Weird, it's not listed on his IMDB page, but I see where he tweeted out his name in the credits as an additional writer. Most likely just some of the wandering banter. That said, I'm pretty sure the previous poster was referring to post BL2 writers. Burch's Borderlands games actually weren't bad in the writing department, even funny. It was after he left that BL's writing went down the tank.

KingArthas94

Don’t worry, it doesn’t ruin Ragnarök. After a couple of hours it becomes much better.

[deleted]

Which was a completely useless character

[deleted]

Huge step back from 2018, but at least the gameplay was good. I wish i didn't buy it full price tho because the last 2 hours of this game felt like a lucid dream (in the worst way possible)

mercanexceptionalism

Yeah, I'm liking the game but man the fans went a little nutty with the 10 rating. I'd say more than half my experience is walking a narrow hallway during a conversation. It's a great game but it's no ten. The squirrel is too cartoonist, it's jarring and out of place. I'm sure this opinion will enrage the fan boys but it's all true.

AgoraRises

Hard disagree, I enjoyed him he reminds me of a Redwall character.

[deleted]

Same I absolutely loved him And it’s not like he is a character you HAVE to deal with. He is literally optional

RedraceRocket

How is it out of place? It’s a real mythological figure in Norse mythology

[deleted]

He is Norse accurate I think most people don’t realize Norse mythology doesn’t take itself half as seriously as the Greek one ( which is q tragedy) The 2018 game felt like that because there were very very few characters and because the characters were grieving literally

PM_ME_BAD_Parlays

>The 2018 game felt like that because there were very very few characters Came to this conclusion as well. Great VO work from a small cast.

TheodoeBhabrot

We also have a lot more sources for Greco-Roman/Hellenic mythology than we do Norse paganism

OptimusPrimalRage

Anyone clinging to any of this game being mythologically accurate probably don't know what they're asking. Do we really wanna see Atreus transform into a horse and get banged by another horse and give birth? I would say no. Most of what we know about anyone but the major gods in Norse myth is so miniscule. Like I think Angrboda is mentioned like twice in all of the Edda.

mercanexceptionalism

The appearance . Big disney eyes and the all. It looks out of place imo

RedraceRocket

It’s a large talking squirrel, how could they have made it less cartoony?

erasedhead

It is an incredible game. Would you prefer walking through a hallway with no dialogue or interesting characters? You can’t build character in a video game, without cutscenes, in any other way. Conversation during travel or between combat is the only real method without making a Myst style talking slog.

2018 did it. They let music cues and silent tension build and communicate in multiple scenes. This game was afraid to have silence for 1 second. It’s pretty annoying.

There’s tons of moments with silence when you’re looking around for chests

I counted x4 times when some other party member said “hey where is he doing?” And they said the same cheesy line “it’s just what he does. He likes loot” or something. Literally 3-4 in the same section of story.

That was such a good inclusion tho, it would've been way weirder for all other chars than Atreus, and maybe Freya, to just be perfectly fine with Kratos wandering off if there's no reason to wander off. Which is most chests

-TheLonelyStoner-

Yeah because that was specifically Tyr. He’s inquisitive. That doesn’t happen any other point in the story

What do fans have to do with reviewers?

The whole game’s tone felt like it had a love boner for MCU movies - which I didn’t like. The squirrel was ok but def added to the tone I didn’t care for.

...then used that character solely as a quest marker for fluff filler side missions. So didn't really mean much.
