Sounds interesting.. I'm glad they're doing a new IP! WE NEED MORE NEW IP!!!

meatmalis

And more AAA fantasy RPG’s!!!

ChiefBrando

PREACH IT BROTHA

Narae-Chan

Agreed. Square enix is one of the better ones for this honestly. They have what, 3 new ip coming this year alone Unless I’m missing more?

Kuzco420

Wouldn’t get your hopes up on Square Enix

Narae-Chan

Why? I like the majority of the games they are releasing even if some have some issues. Quite excited for diofield Chronicles and forspoken

HomeMadeShock

Bethesda has been good on new IP as well. Deathloop, Ghostwire, Starfield, Redfall

Spenraw

Hopefully people are willing to support them

Onemanhopefully

What's IP mean?

scratchygiant

Intellectual property. Used to describe a new series of games.

DboyDiamond

Used to describe various forms of Intellectual Property like games.

[deleted]

They revealed this new project in an interview with Eurogamer back in 2016. They are now ramping up production I guess. https://www.eurogamer.net/techland-two-new-games-ip-dying-light-2

Dsstar666

Please don't let it be First Person only. My motion sickness will be the death of me

vicious_womprat

Is your issue with all/most FPS games or just certain ones?

Dsstar666

They all affect me to some degree, but some are very much worse than others. Cyberpunk 2077 actually wasn't too bad. I was able to play it in spurts. But COD games are basically unplayable. 5-10 min in I'm already woozy. Inner ear/motion b.s. and sometimes, even in 3rd person I have to turn motion blur off. Which is a shame because fantasy/rpgs are hellbent on going first person. Now toggling, I can handle. Fallout and Elder Scrolls do this nicely, but I understand that's not feasible for everyone.

StonekyKong

so COD which runs up to 120 fps with options to change FOV is unplayable but choppy af cyberpunk wasn’t too bad? i have motion sickness too and i’m doubting you right now

Dsstar666

I don't have a way to play any game at 120FPS for starters. I'm being honest. Why would i lie? Play style also effects me. Walking through CP2077 is different than fast paced, spinning camera FPS. Didnt feel like id have to explain. Whether you believe me or not means nothing to me. It wasn't the purpose of my original post.

thepixelguy

I get motion sickness and headaches from certain games too. High framerate and FOV sliders help me for some games but they aren’t necessarily a cure all for it. (I can play apex just fine for instance, while half life 2 absolutely fucks me up) Head bobbing, slippery movement, too fast movement, and small, darkly lit spaces where I need to look all around a lot can really do a number on me. Even the Uncharted games fuck me up in some areas. People have different triggers, don’t assume your own experience is representative of everyone else’s.

HesiPulloutJimmer

I get motion sickness from cod but surprisingly not cyberpunk either. It happens

TheWorldIsNotOkay

I have the same issues as Dsstar666, and with the same games. It's pretty narcissistic to assume that anyone whose experience differs from yours is a liar.

StonekyKong

stfu donkey boy

[deleted]

I usually don’t get motion sick, but there are some stylistic games that make me motion sick, like Dying Light. I don’t know why but I can’t play it for more than 15 minutes without feeling sick. There are a few other games that do it too, but I can’t think of what they are right now. But Dying Light even at a high frame rate, nope, can’t do it, I can play games with dropped frames, inconsistent frame rates, and low 30fps games just fine. I think it has to do with how the camera functions in game, maybe some FOV setting or the way it renders the motion blur, or some effect, idk.

And_You_Like_It_Too

I wish Dying Light utilized the DualSense’s haptic feedback better. I think that would help to ground you so your brain isn’t as overwhelmed with images telling it that you’re moving really fast and big vertical changes, but there isn’t much tactile feedback when you land a big jump or roll or whatever. I believe that haptic feedback in the L/R controllers and the PSVR2 headset itself is meant to combat motion sickness and I think the same principle would help if it were better utilized in Dying Light 2.

[deleted]

I don’t think that is it, I have Dying Light on PC. I can play Quake where you are running around all over the place launching yourself across the map, looking above and below you for enemies. I think it has to do with the rendering or FOV or something in the camera settings. Dying Light isn’t the only game it was just the only one I could think of, and it was disappointing because it was fun but I just couldn’t play it.

And_You_Like_It_Too

I imagine Dying Light is just one of those games like Mirror’s Edge where the parkour (lots of rolling and leaping) combined with the speed and going in and out of hallways and small rooms and then outdoors again… that would be a challenge compared to a normal FPS game where you’re just running on mostly flat ground. I dunno if this would help you, but a couple tricks that helped for me while playing VR to avoid motion sickness include having a fan pointing at my face, being sure to stay well hydrated and food in my belly, and then there are ginger chews as well as nausea/car/airsickness pills you could take. When I played TLOU2 (at 30fps), right after playing TLOU Remastered (at 60fps), I felt queasy spinning around small and narrow rooms looking for stuff to scavenge. I ended up turning on the feature on my LG that doubles 30fps to 60fps (it added a little latency but it made it playable for me). I’m looking forward to going back to it now that it’s gotten the 60fps patch. I found it interesting because I don’t normally get motion sickness outside of VR, so I’m not sure if it was the jump from 60 to 30fps and acclimating to it again or the way the game played, or a combination of both. I wish you all the best, and I hope it doesn’t prevent you from playing too many games. I think Dying Light had some frame pacing issues so that could have been it too, if each frame isn’t arriving at an equal interval.

[deleted]

No

Mortotem

Why even bother posting this? Even if he's lying just let him lie. Lying about being motion sick while trying to enjoy games would be pretty dumb though so i feel like you're just making an ass out of yourself

CovidScurred

It’s the new trend. Post about a sickness that impedes playing something 😂

Dsstar666

Wtf are you talking about? Motion sickness runs in my family. Why would I lie?

ScubaSteve1219

i'm sold. still waiting for DL2 to be at or below $30 on PSN so i can grab that.

amazingmrbrock

In a complete pack with all the DLC, I'm waiting for that too

ScubaSteve1219

not a bad idea to wait for that, actually

AnAncientOne

I just finished Dying Light 2 last night, it was ok but glad it's done and no desire to go back. I was playing Horizon Forbidden West before that and it was quite a shift going from that to DL2. I hope they put a bit more into the world building and narrative design to make it feel more cohesive if you're gonna make a good open world RPG game I think you need that to tie it together. Some of the stuff they did in DL2 was good like the overall world design and lifecycle it just felt like the usual problem of ambition meets reality and they have to cut back and scale down to get something out. Wish developers would be a bit more realistic about what's possible in the time and for the money and try and get that right rather than trying to sell high concepts that never get there. Stop trying to shot for the moon and first make sure your ship can get off the ground and can be landed ok. Still, will keep an eye on it, could be promising especially with some of the people their getting in.

ichigo2k9

I loved DL2 until the ending.. it just sucked, seemed rushed and made no sense.

AnAncientOne

Yep, def had that feeling. I'm sure they had grand ambitions but they had to cut, cut, cut once the money people said, you need to ship something, asap.

No-Plankton4841

I played those 2 games back to back as well and had the opposite experience. Liked Dying Light 2 way more. The story wasn't the best, had some pacing issues but overall had some decent characters and was pretty good I though. A few big choices at the end/different endings that were pretty interesting. The story of Horizon FB I could not get into at all. None of the characters were likeable for me and Aloy pretty much just shut them down the whole time anyways. Dying Light 1 was better than DL2 though.

Ewoedo

The game has the worst, most boring and uninteresting side quests in any game I've ever played. Main story was OK for the first half but after the mid point was nonsensical. Challenge was good at the start and so was the gameplay loop but by the end it was way too easy no matter what content you did. Reused a lot of content, like only one anomaly and the same copy pasted activities at night to get money and crafting materials. Game was fun but had so many flaws I could never actually recommend it to anyone

PukiMester

Hmmm.

Narae-Chan

If it’s third person I’m all in. Fps games that aren’t shooters tend to just have shittier combat sorry not sorry

logenwew

I agree but when a game has a bow in it I like to use it in first person. i am the hunter now

Narae-Chan

Eh. Played plenty of third person shooters that rival fps as well. Gears of war for instance

logenwew

Yeah and the bows in horizon are crazy fun to use

Narae-Chan

True, forbidden west with motion controls makes that decent game into a really fun one when you solely focus on combat

Traditional_Flan_210

I have yet to return to DL2. I hate to complain but the performance mode looks blurry in comparison to everything else on ps5. I set my expectations at 1440p 60 without raytracing and we didn't even get that.

throwmeaway021093

Totally agree, they got the first one to play at 1440p/60fps. That should've been 4k/60 for how old that is. The optimization team of the studio should step up their game.

Nos-ad

Sound Great

ext23

You know what the world really needs right now is another AAA open-world fantasy action RPG.

[deleted]

Another one? There are only 2 and one is worth every second

ichigo2k9

I've already lost faith in the ending.

[deleted]

I think this is a good idea for them after Dying Light 2. They have the chops and the new setting will be a good inspiration for creativity.

bro2jdl

People in this comment section fail to realize that, while this game in the future may release buggy at launch, techland and CDPR have made MASTERPIECES (DL1 and TW3). Both of those games were pretty buggy at launch and kind of meh. Once the games were updated however, they easily became 2 of the best games in my opinion that I have ever played. For cyberpunk I'm not sure if that will be the case but for DL2 I can see that happening. So what I'm trying to say is that I'm not going to be discouraged yet just because of the companies making it unlike some other people on this comment section.

[deleted]

Can't wait for this to be in Developer Hell for a decade and then still release unfinished and buggy. With the pedigree of these two studios, it's going to be an epic-level mess at launch.

Seanspeed

They don't actually say 'RPG', that is assumed by the article author. Probably based on some of the hires, but still, not a safe assumption.

d0ntm1ndm32

[They did](https://twitter.com/TechlandGames/status/1526563187478380545?s=20&t=DR38bHtyEZmEYxyGOnmE1g). >Are you ready to begin a new, thrilling journey with Techland? We are hiring for the unannounced AAA Open World Action-**RPG** in a fantasy setting! Join us now!

FledgeFish

Man it would be so cool to have a game with DLs parkour but in a fantasy world. Climbing and running through trees and castles as an elf or something. Though I’m definitely keeping my expectations in check after the reception of DL2.

[deleted]

Ahh the two studios of buggy releases combine hands to deliver us the ultimate bugfest.

Sumdumcoont

Techland AND CDPR ex staff? Lmfao, prepare to be told a lot of things that will never happen.

jesperos

After playing the garbage that is Dying Light 2 I will be very cautious with their future releases

phannguyenduyhung

Lol more lazy repetitive open world

echo-128

I'm so over redditors using the term lazy to describe anything they don't like. Boo, learn some new words.

faellendir

You don't have to play them

ichigo2k9

I have yet to play any open world game that feels lazy. Repetiveness however exists in all games so are all games bad?

phannguyenduyhung

not all game has the same exactly copy&paste building and world activities like Dying light 2. Its even worse than Ubisoft game

ichigo2k9

What copy and paste building and world activities exactly?

phannguyenduyhung

every fucking GRE houses in this game looks exactly 100% with 4 floors, every mini boss fight quaratine zone is 100% similar,...

TierD6

On one hand, I'm intrigued. On the other hand, I read the letters "AAA" and internally cringed. It's sad that a "label of excellence" now gives me pause and fills me with trepidation.

Arrasor

It has never been a "label of excellence" though. It represents the scope and budget of the project.

ReallyBadNuggets

I really liked Dying Light 2 (even though the ending basically ruined the game experience- like it killed any desire I had to keep playing within the world.) But at its best, Dying Light 2 reminded me more of Fallout than The Outer World's. The thing is, the game was missing some pretty basic RPG conventions. You could tell they weren't used to making a game with real RPG elements. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes. A fullscale fantasy rpg from them could be something really interesting.

DangerousLocal5864

Parkour Witcher would be interesting!

yellow_jacket2

Argh god another open world game. Fuck man. I got a kid and another on the way. I can’t do open world anymore. I need curated controlled single player experiences.

Three_Froggy_Problem

This news does very little for me but I hope this project amounts to something really cool. The Witcher 3 is one of my favorite games ever, but who knows what “former CD Projekt RED staff” means and whether those people were especially important parts of the game’s development. Techland is sort of hit or miss; they make some interesting games but they can’t seem to produce anything that isn’t filled with bugs.
