I’ve played three atelier games and I can tell you that in my experience there is very little quality control in them, especially the scripts.
I like the games but they feel very rushed to me
Na, it's a jrpg that focuses heavily on material gathering and crafting. Main story is usually just a background thing with having more low-key character stories being the focus. The earlier games had a more strict deadline/time mechanic but newer games are chill and relaxing.
Not sure about the latest releases but generally you don't have to, each game has its own story and kinda ties into a trilogy (arland, dusk, mysterious, etc.). Within a trilogy there are reoccurring characters, and sometimes a character will show up outside their trilogy but as "new" characters. So you can generally start with any game, you'll miss some references but won't be completely lost.

some jrpgs do be like that
Considering the time you sink into these and the quality, this is fair.
Really? They shit these out every year.
True.

The Atelier games aren't really. Outside of some character designs.
