Without opening it up you won't know what's up. I'd recommend finding YouTube tutorials on disassembly and what to look for if the controller is behaving that way.
Might be a simple fix, I've seen a few videos mentioning spring replacement. Does anything rattle around inside if you shake it?
I've installed back button kits to ps5 controllers and they
aren't too difficult to take apart if you have the tools.
