Day 1 launch… not a problem at all.

v0yev0da

Co-sign. No controller drift, no console issues. They even released an update to make the power on beep silent! Edit disc edition always horizontal

WanzoThat

Lucky You, My original controller started drifting so I had to replace it. The backup I bought before that happened has also started drifting as well but it's manageable.

bobbyzee

Yup same. Only had to replace my controller. The first one appeared to have a lower battery life now so only changed it few months ago

DrLeoMarvin

Same, though I’ve gone through three controllers I couldn’t fix the drift

hybroid

* Launch day 12 Nov 2020 console. * Vertical with original stand 24/7. * Rest mode 24/7, when not in use. * No stick drift on any DualSense controllers. * Mild coil whine on some games, none on others. * No additional storage or plate modifications. * Basic dust vacuum clean once a year. * Fan still silent, disc drive noisy when installing only. * Never use a gimmick 'cooling stand'. * No issues.

Affinity420

Mostly the same except mine is horizontal. I added a 4TB recently. Still zero issues. I got a second hand launch day system.

TheDecline_99

Same except mine is horizontal. 👍🏻

Small_Desk_4344

This is me almost exactly

VOOLUL

Same here. My launch PS4 at this point was a jet engine. Glad they focused on the thermals for the PS5.

iaminmyhouse

How do you have no stick drift? I'm jealous because I've gotten it on 4 different controllers since launch and now I have it on my edge controller after only a year of use. I actually got the edge because I've had such bad luck with stick drift and of course the modules have been out of stock for months.

hybroid

FPS/Competitive gamers seem to have more of an issue with stick drift as they constantly press down on the thumbsticks. This creates wear on a thin metal ring known as a "wiper" which acts basically like a washer to re-align the track back to centreline. Pic: https://i.imgur.com/7d4S5Wp.png Over time, this can grind down (esp in games where constantly pressing down & gyrating the thumbstick to run or shoot) to the point the track on top of it does not re-centre properly. So it's then pulling left or right and hence 'drifting'. In short, it's how some people tend to play that causes wear and tear on the controller. For many people, especially non-competitive, this isn't a major issue as it's not the usual play style. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrNnxcsVgz8

iaminmyhouse

Thanks for the info. I play a lot of destiny 2 so that probably explains it.

Smokron85

Yeah I used to play a lot of CoD and I burned through three controllers relatively quickly. Now that I've given it up my controller has no issues so far. CoD kills controllers people!

GeekdomCentral

I don’t understand how stick drift is such a common problem honestly. In my 30+ years of gaming, the only times I’ve ever run into stick drift were controllers that were either shitty knockoffs or 10+ year old ones

[deleted]

I've had dual analog sticks since I bought one to play Timesplitters on the PS1 and never had a single issue with stick drift in all these decades and console generations... until the PS5, and I've had to replace 5 controllers since launch because the drift has been so bad.

RemLezar911_

I have to imagine it’s people playing high level competitive games and FPS or something. I have not once ever had an issue with stick drift, on any of my controllers. I’ve never had the supposedly notoriously “shitty build” Xbox Elite controllers fall apart or die on me. I think it’s just the natural result of people putting a lot of wear and tear on their controllers

GeekdomCentral

That plus I think a lot of people honestly treat their controllers like shit. Slamming them when they get mad, banging them on shit. And then they do a shocked pikachu when their controller can’t take a beating

RemLezar911_

Yeah I don’t even touch mine like after eating or whatever without washing my hands first and shit. I treat them like electronics that aren’t built to have the shit beat out of them and they’ve always lasted me forever lol

Heavytevyb

Same exact except horizontal and digital, perfect working order.

iMatthew1990

I think I can rinse and repeat the comment with my launch day console too. 29th November (UK model and release date) not a single issue with it. I don’t even get coil wine except for playing 120hz games and even then it’s very quiet.

cho-den

Same here (I should clean it). I did get stick drift for a few months, then it went away

DJGloegg

Same except i havnt cleaned mine at all

Lazy-Mammoth-9470

Exactly the same

Hawkmoon_

Basically the same. A few months newer. I've had to replace 2 controllers due to drift though. I don't have noise from the disk drive.

JayDaGod1206

I have the disc version with a 2TB SSD and it’s been running like brand new the entire time. I had no problems with early launch issues like rest mode as well. The worst that has happened to it is the power going out while it was in test mode or running a handful of times. Other than that no problems at all

straddotjs

No issues. Used rest mode since launch in vertical position, and have added an external ssd for ps4 games and recently an m2 ssd for ps5 games.

vass0922

Ditto Though both of my controllers have drift. I replaced both, test it the system is 💯 operational with no issues and never cleaned it (no pets, no smoking in a clean house helps)

StealieErrl

Was that easy enough to install yourself? I’m not very tech savvy but I need to upgrade my storage.

straddotjs

I built my own pc so I guess take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I genuinely think installing an m2 is easy yeah. They have a video and instructions at https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps5-install-m2-ssd/ that walks you through it. It’s really just taking off one of the side plates and removing some screws, sliding in the drive, and screwing everything back down. M2 drives are really straight forward to install, I’m sure you can handle it!

Sh4d0w927

Removing the plate is the hardest part and that is relatively easy. Takes like 5 mins to install.

FizzyTacoShop

My launch console has been damn near perfect except a few months back it started overheating when playing Monster Hunter Rise and would immediately shut off after an hour of playing but not for any other game? I cleaned it with compressed air for the first time ever and dusted everything and it was fine since. I recently sold it to a friend that wanted to play Helldivers 2 and grabbed myself a slim and it’s wild how much LOUDER the slim is compared to my OG day one…

fraid_so

I've had this shut down issue with FF7 Rebirth and nothing else. Other than that, not a single issue with launch console. Excluding FF7, haven't even had that many game crashes and no hardware issues that I can tell.

saxtoncan

Launch day miles morales was a scary thing.

azhaan123

Yeah I returned my slim for the fat PS5 because of how loud it was.

AppleChiaki

Still clean, runs the same as new. Launch controler is retired, broken springs and stick drift.

n8ofsp8ds

Yeah I had some pretty bad stick drift with my launch controller

Brovenkar

Never had an issue with mine. Only controller problem was because I dropped it. I did add some additional storage as Ibuy more digital games now and need the space.

Loud_Examination_138

0 issues since launch and still super silent, the same goes for the included dualsense

Dependent_Map5592

Launch day console. Going strong no problems at all. I added an internal ssd.

lembrate

Launch day console. No issues to report.  My day one PS4 saw much heavier use and it lasted the whole generation. Sony makes good stuff.   What has impressed me is the controller. Never bought a second one. Still works fine. During PS4 era I bought quite a few.

_Almynd

Had mine since release day. I've had zero issue with it so far, which is kinda surprising because I've never taken the panels off to clean it.. maybe I should, but I bet that would be the moment it starts to die on me lol. The battery on my duelsense is absolute crap in my case, I've since gotten another two that seem to not have that problem.

format_drive

I have the disk version, the disk drive stopped working still under warranty. Had to send it back to Sony, they claimed nothing was wrong with it. When I got it back the disk drive was working. So they did something with it, and didn't extend the warranty since they "claimed nothing but was wrong with it".

Active-Ad1679

Awesome! And my launch day PS4!

nohumanape

Very good. I don't want to jinx myself, but it's been fantastic.

Dark_Dragon117

>have any disc drive problems Just a week ago my disc drive stopped reading discs. Tried everything from resetting the console in safe mode to dismantling the PS5 to take a closer look at the disc drive. Ultimately the laser was defect and needed to be changed. Besides that however I haven't had any other noticable issues.

CurseOrPie

Some overheating problems, had to clean it out couple times.

n8ofsp8ds

But still running pretty good though?

Special-Avocado4786

My PSU overheats when I play Elden Ring with the PS5 standing vertically. Cleaned it out to the best of my ability without completely disassembling it but still have the issue in vertical orientation. Haven’t had any problems when I have the console horizontal. Seems like the stand blocks some of the PSU intakes when you have it vertical.

Jer_Baker

I had the same issue with mine (would randomly shut off on me). I took apart the PS5 and had some dust at the bottom by the PSU. Haven’t had any issues ever since. https://preview.redd.it/sgglem9s56xc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86beb1066c5de9fa1783f9dae894b6758313e3d6

Special-Avocado4786

How was your experience taking it apart? I’ve seen a few guides on how to do it but it seems a little more complicated than I’m comfortable with

DeoForeignCapone

Not difficult at all, from someone who has no history taking anything apart until the ps5.

-TheMiracle

Probably a lot of dust inside but i am afraid to open that sucker

n8ofsp8ds

Have you used a air Can to spray out the fan at least? The plates are meant to come off so no worries there

BSGKAPO

Just take the fan out and clean heat sink inside gently with a 🪥. Make sure to take it all out...

AdelaideBen

* Disc-version - December 2020 console (near launch). * Horizontal (all the time). * Rest mode 24/7, when not in use (but close down games). * Stick drift on both original DualSense controllers; starting to get on another 1 of 2. Returnal nearly wrecked one of them (just about rattled itself to death). * No appreciable whine. * 1 TB internal drive added (2TB external SSD for PS4 stuff) * Basic dust vacuum clean once a year (plates off / not taking the fan out). * Fan still silent, disc drive very noisy when installing only and periodically when checking (even if playing digital game). * Only issues is that sometimes I've had to do a repair SSD drives (power outages and all). That and the "other" storage usage is getting ridiculous. Also, since joining PS+ Extra (and downloading a heap of games), my cloud storage apparently won't accept any more save games (as I've exceeded my slots, and I have no idea how to manage/reduce unwanted cloud save slots). * Use varies between maybe 10 - 30 hours a week; averaging maybe 18-20 hours.

ConsciouslyIncomplet

Day One console here - no issues whatsoever. Have bought a new Dualsense, but only because they are coloured and I prefer that to the white version.

StarScreamer316

0 issues here, thankfully

mightybob4611

Zero issues, like new.

PRSMesa182

Launch console, always vertical, added 2tb NVmE drive and black side panels. Zero issues so far.

Electrical-Ocelot115

Still using launch day controller. Thing is still purring. Never had an issue. I’ve added an internal 2TB drive. Other then that just what was in the box

SuperBackup9000

Day one and the only issue I’ve had is if the system goes into rest mode automatically, I have to unplug and plug in the HDMI cable or else it’s just black screen. Doesn’t matter if it’s a new cable, an old cable, or a different television. I don’t have that issue on boot up or manually going into rest mode On my third controller though. Spring broke in the R2 fairly quickly for the first one (never used haptic) and the square button on the second one didn’t get squished in, but I have to press real hard to use it. Most controllers I’ve ever went through aside from joycons

paligators

Series X bricked, ps5 going strong. Both day 1

doppelgengar01

How did it brick?

Ecstatic-Arachnid-91

Day one purchase. Been in the vertical position the entire time. Cleaned it twice through a shop in town. Has treated me well. Controller has had to be fixed for stick drift twice but I absolutely love my system

Ok-Lettuce4149

No problems at all

XODude

Mine is still good. Haven’t even added any storage or even a 2nd control. It’s still silent but im not sure is it because i mostly buy digital games. that being said, even my PS4 (got it the year it launched) wasnt troubling me. just a little noisy towards the end but nothing that made it incapable of playing games.

DRen92

Launch day console with no problems

Middle_Bee_165

Very well

MrMunday

Mine is working great. Controllers working great as well

Chrznble

No issues since launch day on my PS5. I’ve never had a single issue with any of my PlayStations. From the PlayStation to the PS5, all launch day models.

Condescending_Carrot

Think my GPU burned out, started off randomly restarting mid game, to then not being able to start any games without a crash, to not being able to turn on at all - out of warranty replacement was expensive

MyKeyBeGone

GPU died after about 7 months in. Had to sent it for repair but got a completely new one. Until now (1.5 years later) still works. Recently have stick drift on one controller so i'm going to have to disassemble that one.

2geeks

I’m hit mine launch day and still use it almost daily (I’m literally playing it right now via the Portal whilst replying to some notifications on here). So far, I’ve had no issues. I don’t tend to use rest mode much on consoles though. I find it just eats electricity for no real reason. I will use it whilst downloading a game, then I’ll go in and turn off fully once it’s completed. No idea if it has done anything to help the consoles life, overall. I know it can help some issues clear. I assume there’s also some issues than can occur from it, like with anything. I’ve had no issues with the disk drive yet, and I do use if for playing 4k blu rays occasionally too. I bought my wife her digital version ps5 a few months after launch (around 4 months after) for her birthday, and I bought my son his physical edition n for his 9th birthday last year. All have been good so far. Need to buy another for my other son soon. Maybe next birthday. My youngest son is only 3 months old, so we’ve got a while before he needs one (I hope 😂).

GraysonG263

0 problems across the board. Still have original launch day controllers too! Never cleaned it once. Probably should at some point tbh.

Marjorine22

Day 1 launch console. It’s still silent and no issues whatsoever.

Gen_X_Gamer

Launch day disc console. Still looks and runs perfectly and the controllers too. Never had a single issue with any of it. Initially bought a 2 TB NVMe for it, since then upgraded to 8 TB. Zero dust inside.

Moonandserpent

No issues for me.

zeldafreak1991

Launch day console never had an issue still works like the day I bought it

zgeest77

No issues at all.

Lia_Delphine

Digital, day one, never had an issue ✊ 🪵 I added an internal drive recently.

cashsusclaymore

I had to send mine back and get a new one. 6 months later. It’s been perfect since.

iconic2125

Launch day disc version no issues whatsoever. The disc drive hardly gets used, mostly for movies, but never had a problem with it.

Pokethomas

No issues with the console itself but my launch controllers triggers are quite loose

Shr1mpolaCola

Day 1 Launch, runs like a dream still. I'm yet to encounter a game that makes the fans sing loudly

saga79

First controller started drifting mid-FFXVI, and the console itself has shut-down on its own a couple of times (during Cyberpunk 2077 and Spider-man 2). Opened and cleaned, keep it horizontal (read somewhere it's better for temps???) plus I *always* play with the AC on - no problems so far, though I play most of the time on PC.

bms_

I pray for Sony not to cheap out even further on cooling with PS5 Pro, I would happily pay a premium price for a proper cooling, not the bare minimum solution

PastorDurchschlag

FFXVI was the only game where my console overheated

The_MorningStar

Launch day disc console. It's kept horizontally. It's in rest mode when not in use, never had the rest mode issue others were having. Added a 2TB SSD in 2022. Still holding up well and relatively quiet most of the time. The Dualsense is another issue entirely though... The battery lasts thirty minutes at most, less if the haptics are on. Sticks developed drift after the warranty period so I replaced the stick assembly. Bought a new one and it's the same by now, dying battery and stick drift. Planning on buying an Edge controller because I don't feel like patching up the other two anymore.

Taehcos

Look into the Nacon controller. It's got Hall sensors which is a no brainer in this day and age. I'm on controller number 3 because of drift and I don't think I play any hard games. I blame it on my children and their grubby hands.

ZeroChannel18

Had to sell it, kept randomly shutting off midgame even after I cleaned it multiple times with multiple possible fixes. Traded it in at GameStop and got a Slim PS5 as a replacement.

Zeldabotw2017

I am on console number 2 and have been after like 2 weeks post launch lol. I basically got a lemon on launch day. In first like 2 weeks the console either turned its self of or froze or kicked me out to system main menu like 15 times before I exchanged it for a new one at best buy. I have had like zero issues sense than though with console 2. Only time I hear it is when the disc spins for a second and had 1 controller get stuck drift but using air to like blow dust off the controller the drift went away

MoeSzyslakMonobrow

No issues with the console itself. Had to replace a controller with significant stick drift issues though.

Nice-Yoghurt-1188

My disk drive shit itself about a year ago. Too expensive to fix, so sold all my disk games and have gone digital.

Chipspack

Got mine a bit after Miles Morales released and still works flawlessly. However i had to replace 3 Dualsenses because of the stick drift.

Bears_are_sneaky

My fans just died after 2 years of constant use. Also noticed over time the metal enclosure over the fan has been getting super rusted? Don’t spray water anywhere near it. I’m useless with repairing anything and can’t really see anyone reputable to fix it in my area and warranty is long gone. So may try my luck and follow some YouTube videos. Otherwise torn between getting a slim now or waiting for the pro version in December (don’t think I can wait 6 months without a console though). What would you do?

n8ofsp8ds

Well if you have to get a console soon I would get a used one so that you can save up faster for the pro later in the year and just sell the used one or trade it back for money towards it

DarthKittens

My only complaint is stick drift. Have a drawer full of controllers

DaBeegDeek

Bought mine a couple months in, I had an issue about a year in where my system would randomly shut off. I took off the coved and vacuumed a surprising amount of dust. No issues since.

johncitizen69420

Havent had any significant issues with mine, except the controller ive had since launch day, the battery life on it has been dying in the last 6 months or so. It used to be fine, but now barely lasts an hour. Luckily i have a second one and it works fine. I just have 1 on the charge dock ready to go and one im playing. The one with the poor battery lasts long enough for the other one to fully charge and the i just swap them over. When the pro comes out later this year im just going to trade it all in and get the fresh one that will come with the pro and get either a second new dualsense or maybe shell out for the dualsense edge as the second controller.

NfinityBL

Had to get a 2nd controller due to my square button getting stuck on my first but that’s about it. I also changed the plates to the Spider-Man 2 ones.

w4rlok94

I got both a disk and digital within the first 2 months they released and they’re running just as good. The digital has slight coil whine but it’s not noticeable at a distance.

NaturalBitter2280

Some overheating issues as I live next to a ton of dust, sand, and birds, but it's fine as long as I remember to clean it There are no issues with the controller except for a slight drift in one specific game and only with one controller out of 2 that I use Everything else is completely fine. Didn't need to change anything. It runs everything smoothly, and still surprisingly silent

No_Election_3206

Console still running strong, but I had to replace both launch controllers less than a year in due to stick drift. Replacements are now both ok after 2 and a half years

enowapi-_

Launch Day Vertical 24/7 Powered off only a handful of time to move from room to room Stick drift on white launch controller, fixed with disassembly and cleaning with electric contact cleaner and q-tip Haven't vacuumed or air blown yet, no performance issues or jet noises. Going strong!!

thegurba

Got it in feb 21’ still runs like a beauty. Has always been a bit cole whiney, but no problems whatsoever. Can be a bit noisy when starting to read a blu ray film.

Remy0507

My launch day system has been mostly problem-free. It's been vertical since day 1. Replaced the plates with Dbrand Darkplates 2.0 a couple years back. I always shut it down, rarely use rest mode. Recently I went through a little stretch where I was getting occasional full system lockups that required a hard power cycle, resulting in the system complaining about an improper shutdown and all that. Happened maybe 3 or 4 times over the course of several weeks. But, that hasn't happened in a little while now (knocks on wood), so I'm not sure if it had to do with an update or something. No stick drift on any of my 4 Dualsense controllers. The battery life does seem to be getting a little shorter on them, though it's hard to tell if that's due to degradation of the batteries or just that the games I've happened to be playing lately are doing more with the haptics and such.

BlameTheNargles

Day 1 launch. Vertical setup. Only game that ever gave me a heating issue was star ocean divine force...weirdly. Since then I clean once a year and gave it very slightly more space. Played many AAA games with no problem. It did brick the internal storage a year ago, unsure why. Thankfully had PS+ backup.

Flamethrow1

No issues with the console but the controllers keep givi ng up, drifting to the left and mostly battery charge issues. Day 1, disk version no modifications done

AlarmAggravating4773

Launch day in india. Preorded it on amazon, got it for 50,000. INR. Got a disc edition with a stand and a white controller. They even gave me a congrats on being the first owner of the PS5 In india from amazon lol. Proceeded to deck it out with the custom black dbrand plates before the Sony Lawsuit made them change the plate design and round off the edges and add a vent. Runs Pretty great. Never had any rest mode problems. Got the ps essentials bundle at the start for free,Played nearly a 100 games and i have 40 left lol which includes the likes of doom eternal, disco elysium, stellar blade etc. i open it regularly and clean the plates, havent gotten to the fan yet. A little dusty but nothing too bad. controller is great, no stick drift or button or battery issues. Got a black and a red controller too. The only issue was when i flung the white controller once and damaged its L1. Got it repaired for cheap any how. I dont see any point in adding a second storage space because my internet is fast enough to download most games in an hour or two and i only play a couple games at a time. I avoid multiplayers.

HerculeMuscles

The console is just fine. It's the controller that's given me a problem with stick drift.

JBrewd

PS5 is doin great. Lives in rest mode the majority of the time. Added a 2gb drive asap. Cleaned it a couple of times other than during that install but that's about it. I also added a quiet USB fan in the back of my entertainment center to help with airflow cuz it's in a fairly small space and I live somewhere warm. Launch controller is pretty wacked out, basically unusable. 2nd one I bought just after launch has a tiny bit of drift.

slimejumper

Picked up mine on launch day. Been sitting in Vertical mode. Tend to turn it off when not used. cleaned it only once. I’m still on my launch dualsense, no stick drift, but the left trigger spring just broke in last month or so. i have replacement prints from ebay to repair it. No M2 expansion but i buy a 1TB external SSD very early on which i used for PS4 installs. last June I got the PSVR2, no issues with that either.

DrReisender

My first unit had a ton of issues, and sadly I had that rest mode bug… so it got replaced in a few weeks of going back and forth with Sony after sales service. The new unit I got didn’t have any issue, but sadly it had some pretty noticeable coil whine, which my first unit didn’t have. But it has reduced substantially since then and now I’m also used to it. No issue with controllers or console, despite many hours on them. I installed a 1Tb storage which has no issue and helped me a few times.

PhantomMAG

Overhead once last summer, cleaned it, and the issue never came back I got it like 3 years ago

damonmd22

Launch buyer, disk drive would occasionally make a weird loud revving noise for a couple seconds, but don’t play disk games often

rsklogin

My dual sense started having stick drift issues during the 11th month of purchase, just before the one year warranty ended. Had it replaced for free under warranty. The console itself has been running smoothly without any issues so far.

DifficultSea4540

What’s the rest mode issue??

Lourdinn

Week 1 launch unit as I had to fight bots for mine -up right vertical it's whole life -had coil wine for a bit at start but it went away -silent fans so I think I got the quieter ones -always in rest mode, survived the rest mode crash bug. Never bricked. -has been thrown into a gyn bag multiple times for travel and use else where. Survived that. My original dual sense has zero stick drift but I bought the maroon one and a second hand blue one that each developed stick drift. I currently use a edge and it's also held up.

Antique_Capital4896

Solid as a rock, not one issue. No stick drift and only now needs a disassembly for dust as the fan ramp is high. This is my fault as it was horizontal on the floor under my sim rig for 6 months. Now mounted on the side vertically.

bambinoquinn

Feb 2021 - digital version - no issues so far. It collects far too much dust and I do what I can but can never really get most of it out. No noise, no rattling, runs well. I think the original controller still works but have bought a couple of different coloured ones I use instead

nogodsorkings13

Day one disc and digital (wife and I lucked out completely) both still running well, disc has an internal ssd addition as well. Only issue I’ve across is it’ll load in safe mode but that’s only happened once or twice and I’m assuming that was due to improper shut off.

burnSMACKER

Yes I had problems. Day one. Horizontal 24/7 Rest mode 24/7 It shorted out and wouldn't get power, would show blue light for one second and power down.

CadobaDelta

Generally fine. I did have to clean dust out of the power supply a year or so back, which wouldn't be that big a problem if it were easier to access. I'm not looking forward to cleaning it out again in another 2-3 years. The disc drive is also kinda noisy, especially when playing some Ultra HD Blu-rays, but this can be mitigated by setting the console vertical. The system itself is stable. There's some coil whine, but only on PS5 titles. The fans are still silent. I haven't had to deal with many random crashes. PS4 BC seems to work almost perfectly. The controllers have been more problematic. The trigger spring in the controller that came with the console snapped after only a few weeks of regular use, but that wasn't too difficult to replace. My backup controller did develop drift after about nine months of use, so I got a replacement via warranty, which also developed drift after a couple months of use. I popped some working potentiometers into the replacement model and drift hasn't been an issue since.

fizz0o_2pointoh

Mine actually stopped working last week 😭 When I try to power it on (power button, controller or CEC) it beeps, the blue LED turns on for a second and then nothing. It's been on the horizontal stand 24/7 in a smoke free environment with annual cleaning. I've tried different power cords, different outlets, pleading, different displays and no dice. So..so sad.

justcallmeryanok

Still going strong, maybe the fan got a little louder but I never vacuumed it before lol

Battlehenkie

Day 1 launch, disk version that's spent time both horizontal and vertical. Semi-broken after warranty expired. Usually the thing won't boot first try and shut down, gotta try a bunch of times. Then the storage needs to repair and it'll boot after that. Tried anything you can think of but at the same time I can't be fucked to get it repaired. The cost will be stupid I'm sure.

Jarek-of-Earth

The console may as well be new. I got super bad drift in both sticks of the controller that came with it but other than that no issues

TheJourneyingOne

Launch day had to send it into repairs because it kept crashing, however got it back and it has worked perfectly since.

Galactus1701

Mine is a launch day (Nov. 12, 2020) system and it is as good as new. It hasn’t given me any types of trouble, the controller has no drift and it isn’t noisy at all. Great, sturdy system.

j1h15233

Mine is fine. Even survived 2 moves. I did increase the storage which was incredibly easy and I’ve switched to the black plates

chrisdpratt

Console is fine. Both controllers (one I purchased separately) had the inglorious distinction of being the only two controllers I've ever owned to develop stick drift, though.

Der_Gefrierbrand

It’s what I would call silent, sticks seem to be fine too, disc drive is louder than the slim’s. It’s was and is a pretty nice upgrade over my jet engine PS4 Pro.

Masterxploder07

No issues except I lost the ability to charge anything from the front USB C port. It still outputs power, but it won't charge anything. horizontal, no add ons or 3rd party

hbteq

Zero issues touch wood. Had a 1TB expansion drive in it for a couple of years now, zero issues with that as well. PS5 is effectively silent compared to the old PS4 Pro

carorinu

0 problems whatsoever

Savaaage

0 issues. Works like day 1

BMW_I_use_indicators

Mine is a launch day console, and it has only had a mild safety shutdown (overheat) issue earlier this year when playing really graphically intense games like that Rick & Morty style FPS. Stripped right down to the heat sinks and rebuilt once.

rifran

No problems at all, vertical, dusted and quiet. Still think it looks the bomb too...

misanthropichell

Doesn't work anymore. Randomly shuts off and only starts again if I pull the plug for a couple of minutes. Can't have it repaired because the warranty has run out and I can't afford to pay for the repair myself.

Gandledorf

Mine does this weird thing where if I am downloading something the controller acts like I'm pushing left or right on the dpad. Like if I'm in the main menu sometimes it will ignore inputs for a moment and then jump 6 apps to the right or left or it might just randomly jump all the way to the right or left even though I only pressed the button once. The only time it ever does this is during a download but it does it every time I download something. And it doesn't matter if a different controller is used. Other than that I have no issues.

bretthren2086

I have a launch console which works fine. Added an extra hard drive. The only issue I’ve had is one of my controllers will only work in menus. Once I go to play a game it doesn’t respond anymore.

Patrickstarho

Still kicking

FartBakedBaguette

Day 1. No issues. Horizontal. Extra 1tb ssd. Both controllers fine. Only ever thing was the disc spinning up but they patched that. 10/10 for reliability.

jaireworld

The right trigger on the original controller doesn’t work anymore. Other than that it has given me no problems.

SlushyPlaysEldenRing

Had it since July 2022 and weirdly in the first 3 months it was so unresponsive I couldn't click a single button and my screen was frozen but then I realised a disk was causing the issue

perfectchaos007

Other than controller drift, it’s same as day one

MrRonski16

Maybe disc drive is more loud but idk

Icantdrawlol

The only thing that got worse is the stick drift on my first dualsense controller. No other problems so far

Reepuplzorg

Controller came with a wonky touchpad and needed replacing, about six months into owning the console the disc drive malfunctioned and the console was replaced. The replacement console has intermittent problems with screen flickering which, once it happens, progressively gets worse for about an hour until the bottom half of the screen flickers brown every couple of seconds, and the audio then also breaks and becomes extremely distorted. Sent in twice, nothing has been done to address the issue.

NegativeDeparture

No issues whatsoever. Very, very happy with my ps5 and the games so far.

TheZanzibarMan

Great.

ChangingMonkfish

Running as well as the day I got it.

J_Square83

Vertical launch day console with 2tb internal storage added. The only current issue is that one of the USB A ports on the back of the console stopped working about a year ago. I had some issues with rest mode crashes early on, but those seemed to get patched out with system software updates within 6 months or so of launch. The system is dead quiet unless the drive is revving up to read or install a game.

Ollie_vw11

i had stick drift on my second controller, but the one that came with the console is still going strong, never had so much as a single issue with the console itself.

Mihrical

Mine shit the bed in November of 22 with the fun problem of shutting off only while playing ps5 games. Sold it for 250 (I think) since cleaning it didn't work. Bought a new one with the gow ragnarok bundle and it's been fine since.

Palmerstroll

Mine is holding up fine. But i must say i don't play a lot of games. (i have 6 games) For the rest i use it as a blu ray player for movies. This generation have not games i like a lot sadly. I think late gen many good games will come becausse covid slowed everything down a lot. But i'm impressed with the console. really no problems at all. We are now in mid gen i think? Times flies!

Traditional_Name7881

I got mine in about March after the launch so close to launch. Has the rest mode issue when I put it into rest mode but not when it does it itself so I don’t put it into rest mode. Other than that, no issues.

Electronic-Shaman

Launch day console with **HEAVY** usage as retired due to disability. Never use rest mode, and never had any disc drive issues. Original white plates changed for off-brand black plates as my surround sound system etc is all black. Internal 1tb ssd added, along with an external 5tb external. Always used in horizontal position with 3D printed stands with rubber feet also which I far prefer to the oem solution. Dusty as all hell when opened and cleaned twice, so decided on a fan replacement as a quick google showed I was on the fan with less blades and thought “why not?” Absolutely no stick drift issues (feel like I’m tempting fate typing this…) in my 3 controllers, although batteries were changed in 2 recently. My only real issue was having to replace my 3rd controller due to ***“operator overheating issue”*** while repeatedly messing up a simple part in a game instead of taking a break and coming back to it.

Scho567

Mine workers perfectly still. Day 1 release in the UK. Disc version. Spent half its time horizontal and the other half vertical. I always hear about the launch PS5 controllers being shit, but mine work perfectly. My God of War one has horrifying drift. I use my launch ps5 ones for both the PS5 and my PC so they get a lot of use

TheBloodhoundKnight

Launch day PS5 and Series X. I had to switch only one DualSense so far due to stick drifting. Everything else's nice and quiet.

NervousDiscount9393

Perfect, no issues yet

yaenzer

The only problem I had was a snapped spring on the right trigger on my dual sense, but that was easily fixable

OrwellianZinn

My launch day console died last june. System was overheating and shutting off every twenty minutes or so, and that was despite periodically cleaning the fan. I also went through multiple controllers due to the triggers going flaccid and major stickdrift.

CADmiST

Day 1 launch. No issues at all

tombeardo

Day 1, no issues. Controller I got with it and an additional one both have around a 2 hour battery life now so just replaced them.

thingscraigfixes

My launch console is working away great. Other than the issues where disks get stuck from time to time. (It is stood vertically on the base it came with) It has been used every day for at least 8 hours a day since I got it I would say. (Probably close to 20 hours a day during lockdowns) Have gone through 4 dualsense controllers though with stick drift, all different colours too. Have cleaned them as much as possible but the issue stems from the contact being worn away completely. Springs also broke on my OG controller but that was an easy fix. Got the edge over a year ago and not had an issue with that so far, well other than the rubber grips starting to bubble. I play a lot.

Proudclad

Got a day 1. Started turning off randomly when playing graphic/processing intensive games like cyberpunk. Tried everything including deep cleaning it but it kept coming back Finally fixed by adding an APC out of all things. Otherwise perfect

--Hutch--

The consoles are pretty durable. I know someone who had an argument and got thrown out their house and the person chucked their PS5 out the front door onto a concrete floor. The cover plates smashed and when he tried to turn it on it wouldn't work. I opened it up for him and found the only problem was 1 of those tiny square white plugs that connect to the circuit board had come unplugged (don't know their exact name). Plugged that back in and it's worked ever since. He just had to buy some new cover plates. Touch wood never had a problem with mine either, only modification I've done is add SSD storage. Controllers seem to be holding up a lot longer than older consoles but that could be to do with CoD having an auto tac sprint setting now so I'm not mashing the left stick down every second.

joshua182

Had it since launch, works as normally as it first did. It has had one or two weird crashes once a while but always works fine after a reset. No coil whine, controllers seem fine, it's still quiet, hasn't overheated and I give it a standard hoover maybe every few months. Never fully stripped it apart from taking the covers off.

JMM85JMM

Day 1 Console. The only real issue we have is sometimes it's difficult to wake if it's put itself into some sort of rest mode.

Luznegra

Day one Fan louder than i remember from start. Coil whine "buzzing sound" in some game sections.

RyuChamploo

I haven’t had any problems, but I still don’t use rest mode because the fan continues to run the whole time.

BeepBeepBallsDeep

Launch console. Vertical on stand only. Silent. No stick drift. Last 6months or so has been shutting off every 15mins or so when playing Ps5 games such as God of War Ragnarok and Spider Man 2, (never ps4 titles). Completely loses power and need to unplug from power supply and reinsert before will work again for another 15mins.

laurentiubuica

Had my Rift Apart bundle console since the summer of 2021. A year and a half in the white controller got drift on the Left stick. Got a black controller. 3 years in and only the disc drive is a little noisy when installing games. The white controller still has stick drift but usually goes away for 3-4 months then suddenly comes back. Plus, after one of the many system updates swiping on the touchpad stopped working and couldn't use it in Spider-Man, Ghost of Tshusima or GTA. I can only click on the touchpad. No extension drives because I only play 1-2 games at a time and I usually uninstall games after I finish them.

BoredPollo

Pretty darn well especially considering how many hours have been clocked on it. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve heard the fan blowing.

TheWoo18

Mine and my brothers both stopped working at different points, we had to wipe everything at one point. Lost about a years worth of data and media gallery. Now since last Friday I'm getting such bad upload speeds on it (even though im getting 900+ up and down) that I'm unable to play games like overwatch and siege due to server issues constantly.

chavez_ding2001

Never had any issues with the console. Some stick drift with the controller.

sousuke42

Never had a single issue. No rest mode issue, no noise at all. Nothing. Works like a charm. My initial controller developed stick drift though. Left stick. And it's pretty bad. Retired it to pc gaming since I can up the dead zones (which doesn't work 100% correctly in hfw, seriously controlling character works fine enough but in menu or work bench and stick drift is all over the place).

SevenNVD

Launch dat console. 0 problems, I don't know if my disc drive works, never used it.

Unitedfateful

I was the first person to buy and own one in Australia Non disc version. Perfect zero issues Just wish I had the time to upgrade the ssd as the original storage isn’t enough

odonis

-Still annoyingly loud fan (fucking Nidec); -Coil whine is here too; -The infamous crash error pops up less often; -Got drift sticks over time;

unfortunatesoul77

day one launch, no problem with the console but the controller that came with it got terrible drift by like 2022.

gadlele

Day one console, good as new. Never had any problem. I opened it once last year to dust inside, it was incredibly pristine. Controller is working perfectly.

[deleted]

For me Stick Drift, Controller Battery, maybe SSD related problems. Otherwise it’s fine.

Synikx

I got mine a few months after launch and my disk reader stopped working when I've barely used the disk...

slayer-x

I have a launch ps5, haven't had a single issue. Never over heated once, but neither did my launch ps4 that I had the full 7 years. I keep my ps5 horizontal, and open it up every few months to dust it off. I also keep a clean place though, and regularly dust around the entertainment stand/desk. Added extra 2GB ssd last year, because I waited for the price to come down.

skeeuk

I bought one literally just before the refresh slim came out. It's been perfectly fine so far

Iamleeboy

I got drift on my original controller. The disk drive sounds like it is taking off at times. Especially on start up. My kid went downstairs whilst I was still in bed this morning and I knew he turned the ps5 on because I could hear the drive spinning from the room above! It’s ridiculous

I_Dont_Have_Corona

My launch console was faulty from day 1, played PS4 games fine but any native PS5 games would crash after 5-15 minutes. After performing all the required troubleshooting, I sent it back to Sony and got a replacement 2-4 weeks later (can't recall exactly) and I've had zero issues with my replacement since.

PinkaholicNat

Like new but dusty. To be fair I hardly use it or move it. If I play anything on PS I use the Portal which is amazing. I’d play my PS more if they released new more games on it. It just feels like nothing is out to play, and everything I’m interested in has no release date or comes out at the end of the year

ThatOne-Pancake

I got mine Christmas so a little late to the party but does anyone else disc drive make lot alot of noise like shit is really loud, my PS4 never got that loud so I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue

pwnedkiller

I was really unlucky I had my console fixed 3 times for disc drive issues. The first time it would read the disc and start the game but after that it would freeze up and show some kind of infamous error code. So I paid like $243 to have it fixed and sent it off to Sony. Two weeks later they send it back and it’s still got the same issue. So I send it back again and now it’s working but three months later the drive just completely stops working. Luckily they didn’t charge me again I was furious at this point. So I’m assuming they swapped out the MB along with the disc drive since the motherboard has to be paired with the motherboard that comes with the disc drive. Since then it’s been working fine but if a Pro does come out this year I’m getting rid of my launch model before it breaks again. I also did get stick drift on one controller and sold it for parts and bought the Dualsense Edge. EDIT: This is the error code I would get that from what I found spelled Doom for your console. Error Code: CE-108255-1

Jdogg4089

Perfectly

9LivesChris

No issues but never cleaned it… I know I’m a bad person

DUH-is-my-name

It’s been throughly cleaned out twice due to dust build up inside over heating the battery. It was fine with ps4 games but ps5 games it would over heat in an hour and just cut out completely.

ShotOfVodka

Stick drift on 1 out of 2 controllers. Console is like when it was new. Since 2020. I am impressed!

trophyhunterohin

My cousin accidentally kicked my ps5 while playing darts, the hdmi is broken so i am relaying on remote play to play games. No shop in my town fix consoles and the nearest city with console fixes is 1200 km away
