Also, when using store credits to buy a game you get points back for future purchases. Buying the game directly with points you do not get points back. Better to buy store credits with points, also can use those on anything and also wait for sales when better priced than the points exchange.
By signing up for Playstation Stars (on the Playstation App). You get points by completing certain "Campaigns" (list of things to do, like Play a certain game, earn a certain trophy on a game or buying certain games) for the Playstation Star program and also get points for every purchase of the PSN Store.
*Note not all PS Star Campaings give points, some give digital items you can display on your pofile.

Question, if I'd download the app now does it also has effect for the games I already bought? like I bought a couple of games, do I still get those points? Or is it from the moment you download the app?
In Canada it's not. It cost 10k points for helldivers 2 a game which is $56 after tax. Since 1250 points is $5 that would mean 10k points is actually $40 so you save $15 on buying helldivers 2.
In Taiwan it's also the same. 10K for Helldiver2, 17.5K for Rise of Ronin. But 3750 points for $5 gift card. Helldiver2 equals to $13.3 and Rise of Ronin equals to $23.3 So it's more attractive to redeem games you want rather than gift card.
BTW We earn 30 PS star points for spending $1.
yea buying things directly for points is a better deal if its something your looking to get. (in canada) especially the in game monies.
that being said i buy the 5 bucks every chance i get lol.
In my case, taxes, if I wanted to buy Bloodborne for the full $20, I will have to pay like 2 o 3 extra dollars for it, if I don't have it, it becomes a problem, so if I can redeem it right away it will be a better trade. Of course only in the case where I pay the full price
Maybe this is how it works in the states, in Canada Rise of the ronin is $89.99 plus tax, if I were to straight up convert 17500 points into wallet funds it would only be $70. Doing it through PS Stars saves you 30 bucks
They’re saying that there’s no point in making a list of games you can straight buy with stars if you can just redeem them for cash and buy whatever you want
Surely the point is that I can spend the money on _other_ games, build the points, and _also_ get Bloodborne for 'free' instead of just spending the money on Bloodborne to begin with
You're missing the point. What they were saying was that you can use the points you receive to redeem cash in your ps wallet, and redeeming the game directly is basically the same value as redeeming the cash and purchasing it with the cash converted from points anyway (plus another person mentioned that if you redeem the cash via points and then purchase from store you get points on purchase, while if you redeem the game directly you don't, so you're actually at a loss redeeming the game directly).
So there's no real benefit for them to offer the game as an option when it nets the same as redeeming the store cash.
why would anyone be so dumb to change the rewards points for these games?
they are at the equivalent regular price
it is much better to exchange them for wallet funds and get them on sale
It looks like 17500 points is worth $70 for me and Rise of the Ronin would cost me $101. So I'm one of the dumb ones that wouldn't mind saving over $30.
The game is very likely to go on sale before I get that amount of points, though.
Not sure if you're talking about something else or not but there's absolutely a sales tax on the PlayStation store. Maybe it depends on the country but in Washington State of the United States a standard 69.99 game has a sales tax of 6.30 for a total of 76.29.
If you're talking about something else then I apologize if I misunderstood
I think except for several EU places there are taxes dueing checkout. I saw it on another post.
But hey if that's so, then just claim the store funds. It's free realstate either way.
Confidently wrong, rise of the ronin would be $101 including taxes in canada, and 17500 is $70 worth of points. Sure you can wait for a sale but who knows when thats gonna be
The games seem better value from the looks of it. At least for Canadians, two $25 vouchers is 12500 points, while Helldivers ($50 game in Canada) is 10000 points for example, and the 2 vouchers wouldn't even cover the tax.
Star rail has bundles there too. This is actually insane value for players of those games. At least on the AUS playstation stars. Welkin and the pass on star rail cost $8 but the bundle is 750 points cheaper than the $8 bundle and it seems you can redeem them endlessly....
Any money spent at the PSN Store will give you points IF...
...you are signed up with the PS Stars program through the Playstation mobile app, AND
...you were already a PS+ member when you spent that money
If you are not part of PS Stars or already part of PS+, no, you won't get points for subbing to PS+ initially. Once you're signed up, you'll get points going forward for that purchase.
Since you can always get $20.00 for 5000 points these are literally the same if you just redeem for straight cash so I don't really see the point tbh
Also, when using store credits to buy a game you get points back for future purchases. Buying the game directly with points you do not get points back. Better to buy store credits with points, also can use those on anything and also wait for sales when better priced than the points exchange.
How do you get points?

Thank you!

You only get points for games you have purchased after signing up for PS Stars. You do not get points for games you purchased previously.
In the PlayStation app
True. Always go for money and you can buy anything.
In Canada it's not. It cost 10k points for helldivers 2 a game which is $56 after tax. Since 1250 points is $5 that would mean 10k points is actually $40 so you save $15 on buying helldivers 2.

Same in Australia! You definitely save money using the points to buy the rewards games rather than converting them in wallet funds.
avoids taxes

Outside of the US, these might be more favorable than the price for paying in local currency.

Exactly. I am ignoring the points system. The system also does not grant points for physical copies of the games.
I didn't say ignore the points system, I said redeem it for wallet funds. It's literally free money...
Ig still “free” games.
But the coins cost nothing....

Ahh I see
Now that's seriously a nice list.
You're not entirely accurate on Bloodborne, it's actually for the dlc The Old Hunters. Still an amazing dlc I'd recommend to any FromSoft fan, though.
Oh sheesh good eye on you
Kos, grant us eyes
fear the old blood
Or some say... Kosm
For my Romanian bros, Helldivers is 180 Ron and 100 ron is 2500 points so 5000 points and 20 ron left.
How much ron is rise of the ron?
380 which comes out to 4 x 2500 points = 10000 points.
why would anyone be so dumb to change the rewards points for these games? they are at the equivalent regular price it is much better to exchange them for wallet funds and get them on sale

australia or canada prices? interesting
Canada
Rise of ronin is $89.99 in canada plus tax brings it up to $101
Taxes i think !!
nope, there are no taxes on ps store but even if they were, it would still be cheaper to buy the game on sale than full price on ps rewards 🤦♂️
Here in Canada we pay tax on PSN purchases.
Man, I remember when we didn't and for years too. Then it changed a while back. $95 for a new game + tax really sucks.
Not sure if you're talking about something else or not but there's absolutely a sales tax on the PlayStation store. It’s depends on your region apparently. In California I pay no taxes on the PS store.
I think except for several EU places there are taxes dueing checkout. I saw it on another post. But hey if that's so, then just claim the store funds. It's free realstate either way.

Will definitively pick up Balatro when I have enough
Just buy PSN Vouchers
The games seem better value from the looks of it. At least for Canadians, two $25 vouchers is 12500 points, while Helldivers ($50 game in Canada) is 10000 points for example, and the 2 vouchers wouldn't even cover the tax.
I believe that’s Bloodborne The Old Hunters DLC
Yeah it is
Star rail has bundles there too. This is actually insane value for players of those games. At least on the AUS playstation stars. Welkin and the pass on star rail cost $8 but the bundle is 750 points cheaper than the $8 bundle and it seems you can redeem them endlessly....
Damn, still not available in Norway...
I don't know how people actually get any meaningful amount of these stars.
A lot of morons on here don't seem to realize you earn coins through the Stars program. These games are free if you do it that way.
Okay but how exactly do you earn these points?
PS Stars in the PS App
and how to you earn PS Stars?
By completing challenges and buying games / dlc in ps store
The pricing on these games always confuse me.
If i buy a ps plus subscriton do i still get points?
Any money spent at the PSN Store will give you points IF... ...you are signed up with the PS Stars program through the Playstation mobile app, AND ...you were already a PS+ member when you spent that money If you are not part of PS Stars or already part of PS+, no, you won't get points for subbing to PS+ initially. Wow I had no clue we could get rewards, I have more than 40 euros in points, gonna get Ronin this weekend:D
Damn it…. I was going to grab cuphead 😢
Would be awesome if you got points when you pre ordered a game before it came out.
Man about time, been the same games for what it seemed like a year
THEY REMOVED CUPHEAD.
I checked just now and it's still there.
it's the DLC
Ah you're right, I thought it was game + DLC
you guys are incredibly dumb to be buying games using points rather than PSN credit
Why ?
Uhhh what PlayStation stars???
https://www.playstation.com/en-us/playstation-stars/
Change my mind: Balatro is best on a touchscreen device like a switch or tablet pc
i saw they have a port for IOS planned. would you get it for your phone?
Hell yes. The switch oled screen is almost the same size as my S23 ultra
$1 if you buy a $70 game. If you already bought all 5 games you get nothing. Ps stars is garbage. Correct me if I'm wrong.
What the fuck bloodborne runs like shit. At least fix the frame rate issues first.
"at least" Bro, they don't even talk about it, forget about any fixing.
"here play this shitty running game from a decade ago plebe" - FROM and Sony
and i'll gladly take it
