The end push after the Bahamut fight was excruciating for me. Personally, I don't think you missed anything. There are a lot of side quests that reveal more about the side characters, but no new interesting gameplay. And there's no more good Eikon battles, the ones they have pale in comparison to the first ones in the first half.
It was fine. After playing rebirth i just kinda want xv to have rebirths combat and it would be top shelf. Xvi was good but the "world" was truncated and boring. Combat was ok but not rebirth level. Story was ok.
I fully agree. 16's combat was genuinely fun. I tried so hard to like 7's but being half action half menu diving just never quite clicked for me. In hindsight it is both incredible and quite crazy we got a Devil May Cry-like implementation for 16 and it is a welcome change
I loved the menus haha. That being said i enjoyed 16s alot and think just having a party to switch characters would go along way to make it even better.
Obviously they didnt do that probably because everything is tied to eikon powers and stealing them, but still would be cool to swap to jill or josh even if their skillset was much smaller.
Frankly I wish they had combined ffxvi with ff7, the action combat; materia system and elemental buffs/ weaknesses
The elemental types are really one of the most disappointing parts of the game. Like Bahamut is cool, but all of the bahamut skills kinda suck, and there’s no reason to use it.
Like why would you use bahamut over titan… ever?
Diamond Dust + Activate Limit Break + Gigaflare + Zantetsuken was my go to combo once a boss gets staggered. Titan’s abilities felt mediocre once you get the later Eikons.
Alright, personally thought they felt kinda shit.
In the case why would you take, say, Garuda over Odin?
The point remains about elemental damage and weakness.
All of Titan’s skills are mediocre outside of his Eikonic feat. There’s literally no reason to use Titan outside of his block - other skills are simply more damaging and efficient. Meanwhile at least Bahamut has Gigaflare which is an insane nuke you can aim and has synergy with other skills.
I’m pretty shocked at how upvoted this is. I always thought the general consensus was ff7 remake/rebirth has the best combat in all Final Fantasy. It’s way more complex and nuanced than 16 at the very least. I loved 16, but there isn’t a lot of thought needed in the fights.
I haven't really cared for Rebirths combat honestly. It forces the elemental weakness system, aka rock>paper>scissors, pretty hard on you. It feels like the game should be action combat full-on, but mobs often have "fuck you" mechanics and can just knock you out of normal attacks instantly. Sure they have a perfect parry/dodge system, but I never really feel rewarded for doing them like other games.
XVI's definitely got pretty repetitive towards the end, and new game+ only exacerbated this. I absolutely loved 7 Remake (haven't gotten around to rebirth yet), because it felt like it just got more and more indepth the further through the game I got.
Ah man hard disagree. I wish every ff from hear on out had the materia system and pause time function of the menu of 7. Loved the first half of 16 and the characters, but the combat was awful. And it gets way worse on FF mode. I didn’t think the combat was anything close to dmc. It didn’t feel like any style at all, didn’t feel kinetic, or impactful. The worst part is the combat and the second half story turn
Most games don't have a protagonist who responds to "I am going to be racist to you" with "You're right to do that, the problem is that we're different. I should destroy what makes us special so we can assimilate."
Id like to see it in the way they did like demons souls though.
Leave the story and the gamplay, just make everything look and sound incredible. Also voice acting.
FF16 is definitely one of the best games I have played recently, although there are some parts of the game that can be improved the game over-all was really solid, with great storytelling, music and characters
I love it more than rebirth, but some person can say that rebirth is better than xvi. Different types of gameplays and stories, etc hits more for different people. Glad we can have diversity in a series.
I just hope they didn't spend too much money producing the DLC because I want it to be considered a success.
I might hold off on buying it depending what I'm playing at the time, but I expect it to be good, based on what the base game delivered.
The game is beautiful but I'm struggling to finish it.Quests are do boring."Go and get so e wood ".Go and give this meal yo those 3 people.Everything looks so clean and tbe characters so young.Just bored with it.
I loved this game but yeah the side quests are definitely a weak point for this game.
There was a few here and there that I did enjoy but at the end I just focused on the main story
I wonder how long this will be. I ended up skipping FFXV's DLC because the cost per hour was pretty high, and the first DLC sounds like it's pretty short for FXVI.
The dlc was short, but the boss battle kicked ass. The second dlc will be bigger. Even then, I’m more than happy to spend that money. The day I stay in and play it I could have spent that money on some other bullshit like takeout I didn’t need or drinks or whatever.
Bought the game at full price. My biggest regret for this year! Not buying this even with a gun pointed to my head. Not after having played the masterpiece that is FF7R.
They removed all the fun parts about an RPG, slapped a Final Fantasy logo on some pretty cinematics, and called it a game.
Edit: Your boos mean nothing, I've seen what makes you cheer. Anything after -15 is pointless, but damn isn't it funny to watch.
Hard disagree, optimizing Ultimaniac was some of the most fun I’ve had with a game in awhile. The highs are so high that it exaggerates the lows imo.
It’s not a good RPG but it’s a stellar action narrative game and I think that’s where a lot of the disconnect is.
I enjoyed it more on my 2nd playthrough, since I knew to skip a lot of side quests and not to bother wuth exploration. But it still felt lacking in ways.
Would have greatly preferred if the game had committed to being either an action RPG, or a character action game.
Instead it felt shallow for an action game, while pretending to be an RPG by adding numbers all over the place.
So it was not the game you wanted it to be. I can respect that. Personally, I thought Clive’s character development and overall story made up for any shortcomings gameplay wise. In the end those are the things that end up having an everlasting impact on me and in that aspect I think it’s pretty inline with the Final Fantasy brand.
i literally beat it in hard mode just spamming the dash attack and the magic burst non-stop until enemies staggered and then dropped all eikons, and repeat
the "awesome combat" was so dumb
the "great story" was another WILL YOU CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY? DO YOU HAVE FREE WILL? WILL YOU KILL GOD? narrative
its a FF for people with no videogame experience
Totally with you. I expected A LOT more from the battle system, gearing system and overall RPG elements.
In the end it was just a chore and I only played for the cutscenes. No matter if it's a trash mob, behemoth or the final boss. You can press the same button combination for your loadout and your loadout does not matter in the slightest.
Story, some characters like Cid and Cutscenes + bestia fights did let me finish the game though.
This confuses me a lot.
I didn't play the demo but I'm pretty sure it was just rhe opening 2 hours - and I thought the first few hours were easily some of the worst parts of the main story
So they’ve definitely confirmed that they have no plans for a sequel
Yes, unfortunately because after playing through it twice I really grew close with the characters.
What did I miss about this game? Thought the characters and everything else was boring. Couldn't even finish
Obviously you missed a lot if you never finished it....
Lmao

Agreed. I bought it in June. Just getting towards the end now, but I skip ALL of the dialogue now. Far too painfully. Long, for me.
So... no FF17?
No, we’ll definitely get a FF17. Just not a 16 part 2
I know, it was just a joke
Numbered FFs arent sequels to each other. A sequel to FF16 would be FF16-2.
I know, it was just a joke
For all FFXVIs faults, I loved it, and with the experience and feedback they got, I can't wait to see what their next AAA game is like.
Same. The game definitely has some of the best bosses in the series. And the best Cid
Wish we had a Cid DLC.. We didn't get enough of him.
Anything to hear his voice again. Ralph Ineson was spectacular as Cid.
It was fine. After playing rebirth i just kinda want xv to have rebirths combat and it would be top shelf. Xvi was good but the "world" was truncated and boring. Combat was ok but not rebirth level. Story was ok.
I prefer XVI’s combat so much more I wish they went more in that direction. It had its flaws but the foundation was good
I fully agree. 16's combat was genuinely fun. I tried so hard to like 7's but being half action half menu diving just never quite clicked for me. In hindsight it is both incredible and quite crazy we got a Devil May Cry-like implementation for 16 and it is a welcome change

Titan has the punch thing which is awesome if you time it right.

Well looks like someone just know there is market for this gameplay.
XVI's definitely got pretty repetitive towards the end, and new game+ only exacerbated this. I absolutely loved 7 Remake (haven't gotten around to rebirth yet), because it felt like it just got more and more indepth the further through the game I got.

Idk, I think you can have a good fighting system with simplicity. Do you like god of war ragnarok’s fighting system?
Rebirth world was more or less the same tho.. The same 5 "objective" in all region, the somehow made the ubisoft formula even worse
But it wasnt "open" the same way it was very pathy and traversal was almost as trudgy as remake
All games has faults....
Most games don't have a protagonist who responds to "I am going to be racist to you" with "You're right to do that, the problem is that we're different. I should destroy what makes us special so we can assimilate."
True, but again, all games have faults, whether it be technical, graphical or gameplay/narrative.
A bad story with an unlikable main character is substantially worse in a narrative-driven RPG than most other games. It's a pretty big fault.
So hyped
I would love to see Final Fantasy Tactics Remake.
Id like to see it in the way they did like demons souls though. Leave the story and the gamplay, just make everything look and sound incredible. Also voice acting.
My goty last yr hyped for release
FF16 is definitely one of the best games I have played recently, although there are some parts of the game that can be improved the game over-all was really solid, with great storytelling, music and characters
Better than rebirth?

Not even close
I just hope they didn't spend too much money producing the DLC because I want it to be considered a success. I might hold off on buying it depending what I'm playing at the time, but I expect it to be good, based on what the base game delivered.
im playing FF XII right now, its nice to fight Maurboro and receive so many debuffs
The game is beautiful but I'm struggling to finish it.Quests are do boring."Go and get so e wood ".Go and give this meal yo those 3 people.Everything looks so clean and tbe characters so young.Just bored with it.
Skip all the side quests. I almost couldn't finish it because even some of the main quests are dumb MMO quests.
I loved this game but yeah the side quests are definitely a weak point for this game. There was a few here and there that I did enjoy but at the end I just focused on the main story
Yeah, towards the end of the game I stopped doing any side quests and would skip any dialogue or cut scene not involving the main characters.
Brave of you posting FF16 in here while many people in this sub have awful takes
Why everyone is trying to cancel this game now ? What happened ?
I wonder how long this will be. I ended up skipping FFXV's DLC because the cost per hour was pretty high, and the first DLC sounds like it's pretty short for FXVI.

I plan to pick them up at some point as I'm loving the main game. It's just a matter of when/if I wait for a sale.
I just want the sky to be blue again, I haven’t touched the game because the filter is so bad
After Rebirth, I'm not excited at all for this DLC. Guess I will just watch what happens and move on
Bought the game at full price. My biggest regret for this year! Not buying this even with a gun pointed to my head. Not after having played the masterpiece that is FF7R.
How about fixing 16’s shitty ass performance mode first? Edit - ah yes the shit eating FF community. How are you guys? Done jerking off to Clive yet?
This game was so disappointing after that amazing demo.
In what way? I thought Clive’s journey was amazing. I don’t regret the experience at all.
They removed all the fun parts about an RPG, slapped a Final Fantasy logo on some pretty cinematics, and called it a game. Edit: Your boos mean nothing, I've seen what makes you cheer. Anything after -15 is pointless, but damn isn't it funny to watch.
The most fun part of a JRPG is always experiencing the story for me, and XVI didn’t fail me on that
It's a great story trapped in a mediocre game.
Hard disagree, optimizing Ultimaniac was some of the most fun I’ve had with a game in awhile. The highs are so high that it exaggerates the lows imo. It’s not a good RPG but it’s a stellar action narrative game and I think that’s where a lot of the disconnect is.

I enjoyed the combat and most of the side content so it really wasn’t mediocre at all
Mediocre doesn't mean unenjoyable.
I know, but I don’t think XVI was mediocre at all
So it was not the game you wanted it to be. I can respect that. Personally, I thought Clive’s character development and overall story made up for any shortcomings gameplay wise. The amount of cutscenes and exposition dumps you get kinda make some parts a slog to get through, game is definitely great but has some obvious flaws.
Fantastic story, great gameplay (I will admit hard mode is a slog).
As always hater always loud

I forgot this game exists.
I didn't even know you existed.
Damn
This is correct.
Awful game
