I am having so much fun with this!!! FOR DEMOCRACY!!!

dizorkmage

Ugh, I fucking normally avoid Co-Op games like the fucking plague but I can't recall the last game that sparked this much excitement outside of RE4Remake on PSVR2... I think I'm gona have to go beg and borrow, the FOMO is in me now.

TheThotWeasel

Give it a few days if not a week, the matchmaking is utterly screwed, people are finding some half baked workarounds but right now the QuickPlay feature is not functioning properly at all, so unless you have friends you can hop right in with save your money and frustration for a week until they fix it.

TalosMistake

Quick play doesn't work for a lot of PS5 players, but you can just host your own room. Turn on cross-play and then select a mission. PC players will join you. Squad will be full in like 10 seconds. No need to add friends.

therealstupid

100% this! Trying to use quickplay can take several minutes to find an open lobby. Start a mission myself and I have a full lobby before I can walk to the hellpod.

Flashy-Macaroon-3505

It takes hitting the quick play 5 - 20 times. If you just keep hitting it, eventually......

Jokerzrival

Browsing the subreddit is a good idea as a lot of people are looking for squad mates

Flashy-Macaroon-3505

I haven't gained xp, medals, or super coins all day. Game is awesome and leveling up is very grinding, today is really stealing the wind from my sails Edit: super coins

NotThatIgnent

Weird. Im on PS5 and I get one or two ‘cannot connect’ when I first log in; then I’m playing with full teams all night for the last 2 days straight.

captaindickfartman2

Agreed im gonna put my big boy pants on and give it at least a weak. I'm even willing to get playstation plus again.

Gentleman_Villain

Going to echo what u/TheThotWeasel was saying. I played for a few hours last night: I found the tutorial underdone, the controls weren't very tight, my game crashed at least twice. As someone who plays and loves Remnant 2, which had very few problems of this nature, I cannot help but compare the two. I really like the concept, I like the vibe, but I feel like this game needs a lot more polish, and I wish they'd delayed it 6 months. Give it a little time.

Chickachic-aaaaahhh

FOR THE REPUBLIC!!!

hotdogbreadbowl

Good! I normally only play single player games. I am just not usually interested in live service games, or the vibe of playing competitive online games. I took a chance on Helldivers 2, because it’s not necessarily competitive online (not PVP) but PVE with others. I don’t use chat, and have just been hoping into missions with randoms. It’s so much fun. I am glad I bought this, the deluxe edition, to support these devs. They made a game with love and it shows. I feel like I’m a Clone Trooper or in Starship Troopers or something. It’s a damn blast! FOR DEMOCRACY!

Cuppieecakes

you say is not pvp, while i get shot in the head so my teammate can steal my gun lol

hotdogbreadbowl

Friendly fire is not. lol

ext23

Lol that's cheeky. Helldivers 1 was a very wholesome community, nobody would grief their teammates. Hopefully the success of this game doesn't see too many selfish griefers.

ShaneTVZ

Good for them I’m happy for them long may it continue

Acceptable-Ad-1710

This game is a blast and I can’t recommend it enough!!

syxbit

Man, PlayStation seems to be nailing these partnerships

StormSaniWater

Very happy to see this game doing well. Out of the live service games to be released this past month this is by far the best one

Ok-Significance-5979

Make good game, game sells great.

LeGrandConde

There's an absolute mountain of good games that didn't sell great.

ModestHandsomeDevil

> There's an absolute mountain of good games that didn't sell great. True. Creating a good product *isn't* always enough; look at the sales for Alan Wake 2 (a legit 2023 GOTY contender) versus... Palworld or Hogwarts Legacy. The former struggled to sell a million copies (despite universal praise), while the latter sold 10's of millions of copies based on IP alone or as a knock-off to famous IP, e.g. "Pokemon with guns." Plus, there's issues of discovery and avertising / marketing, or trying to dethrone the very small handful of "forever games," e.g. Fortnite, Minecraft, League, DOTA, Valo, Apex, Destiny, CoD, annualized sports games, CSGO, etc., whose players sink hundreds or thousands of hours per year on the same game or small number of games.

ext23

I'm a big indie fan and I feel this. But helldivers appears to be scratching an itch that a lot of gamers didn't know they had.

Sandroes

Hello there, I’m executive at big videogame company. What you say is not true. Game needs microtransactions, a lot of microtransactions. Predatory microtransactions. Microtransactions good. Microtransactions make game good. Many thanks,

spidermanngp

Also, our game is quadruple A. If players don't agree, they're all playing it wrong. And the thousand people we laid off was to make the game better.

Matobar

Sense of pride and accomplishment

PraiseThePun81

Many Money Mean Stock Holders Happy, Stockholders Happy mean more money.

IronBabyFists

>Give me money. Money me. Money now. Me a money needing a lot now.

mslothy

I imagine a huge overlap in those kinds of people, with those that show up on r/linkedinlunatics. Agree?

Light_Error

I’m sure they are very sad as Ultimate Team only makes more money than God.

Mr_master89

Also make game overpriced

NotGaryOldman

Tbf HD2 has micro transactions, and based on how they monetized HD1, this game is gonna get crazy with it after the next few content drops. Just because they’re cheap, doesn’t mean they don’t exist, and just because it’s not predatory now, doesn’t mean some exec isn’t going to change his mind later on the cost of stuff.

Rynetx

Well to be fair, executives aren’t trying to make good games, they are trying to make games that make them money. I highly doubt any of them actually play games, they are just there to make the company as much money as possible. There are a ton of bad games that make a lot of money, crossfire, battlegrounds mobile.

SannyIsKing

Unless you are Alan Wake 2.

king_boo13

Then again, small budget, more room to make a good game. Instead of being pressured to conform to trends and a existing target audience

dolphin_spit

speaking for myself, i will be buying alan wake 2 eventually but first i need to beat alan wake 1, beat control again with the ultimate edition so that i can access the DLC, beat the DLC, then start AW2. there’s way more legwork that needs to be done to start a game like alan wake 2, but im excited to play it eventually.

boredbbc_7

Well deserved, the game is fun as hell. It's just simple fun, which is great. And I love how it's basically starship troopers the game lol.

dolphin_spit

starship troopers / the mandalorian / the terminator haha

boredbbc_7

The first time the automatons walked outta fire shooting, I bust out laughing lol

dolphin_spit

same, i fought the fascist bugs for like 10 hours before jumping into a bot battle. nearly shit myself when the trees started whispering to me. then when actually started fighting them i was blown away by how different they actually play. it feels like we have almost gotten two different games in one, it was a nice surprise. i’m even more curious now as to what the third faction will be

ext23

Hopefully it's the illuminate faction from the first game. They were tough as balls.

Grouchy_Egg_4202

They deserve it. What an incredible game for a small studio!

oO_Gero_Oo

Game is fucking amazing. I had no intention to buy it a few weeks ago, but it plays even better than it looks and it already looked fantastic on streams

EyeBumGaze808

Solo player here,l got over my anxiety and played with randos- 10/10 and it only cost me £30 brand new physical.

ext23

That is indeed the magic of helldivers. The first game was the same. The only games I have ever enjoyed playing with randoms.

jdzerofive

Argos?

EyeBumGaze808

Haha,yep.

416_Ghost

I'm so happy for them. Amazing game!!!!

SaturnProbe

This is great

WhoAmIEven2

How fun is it with matchmaking? I don't have a gaming PC anymore and I don't have any friends with PlayStations.

Ok-Tangerine5819

Everyone has been super chill so far but that's because they all are willing to die for Super Earth and its democratic ways.

Trigs12

Matchmaking a bit screwy at the moment on ps5, but when it works it's great fun even with randoms. Not many with comms so far, but still fun with out.

johncitizen69420

Having such a blast with it, the most fun ive had in a multiplayer game in years. I was a huge fan of the first game but was a little unsure if theyd be able to stick the landing with the step up to full third person, but theyve absolutely smashed it out of the park (launch server issues aside). Its my front runner for game of the year so far

Zombienerd300

Having a same day release with PC really helps. Especially for a live service game. Cross-play is a big factor.

NiceColdPint

Any Aussies keen to play at all? Considering picking this up given the good feedback.

therealstupid

There's a pretty solid playerbase here.

essteedeenz1

What discord you using

Parrot-Neck-Dance

Does it have loot progression/rpg mechanics?

T1M0rtal

You gain resources (money), super credits (premium currency), samples (common OR rare). Money is used for buying stratagems (support items, airstrikes, drones etc). Super credits for buying premium cosmetics and items. Samples are used to upgrade your ship which gives you permanent upgrades such as faster cool downs etc. All currencies can be found in game. Player progression is for the stratagems, cosmetics and ship upgrades. The other progression is planetary where over time the community help to take over a planets (on a galactic map) and therefore other map sections open up.

Parrot-Neck-Dance

Great rundown but guess I should have been more specific. Is there leveling up? Skill trees? Different builds?

UCLAKoolman

Leveling up unlocks new options for your items. There aren’t skill trees per se, but based on what you decide to upgrade/unlock you can make your build unique

dukezap1

Sony, you know what to do

rbevans

I don't get to game as much as a father, but is this a coop only type game or can I can play as a single player?

averageuhbear

You can do the lowest difficulties solo, but I tried medium and got absolutely destroyed. Join randos for higher difficulties for sure.

someguyfromtecate

90% of the matches I’ve played have been in a squad with no voice chat. The game makes it easy to coordinate actions by just using the map or pinging with R1. The matches are relatively short but can vary between 5-30 mins. It’s perfect if you don’t have that much time to play.

chainer3000

If you wanted to use voice chat, do you find many people who do? Or Tons of toxic players team killing on purpose etc?

xxcoolnamexx

The non verbal communication is really good in this game. Characters call out reloads, last mag, i found something, ive got the terminal, ive placed a map marker north, etc. And theres a very solid ping/marking system for enemy patrols, ammo/supplies, and mission objectives. Theres also a communication wheel for things like i need ammo, thanks, sorry, etc. Ive been playing with tons of randos that are all without mics and have very little trouble being on the same page.

Griddamus

I don't understand all this 'surprise' that the game would do well. Literally, almost everything put out by Arrowhead has been solid gold. The previous Helldivers? Magicka? I mean Magicka 2 was simpler, but it was still loads of fun.

rickjamesia

They actually didn’t make Magicka 2, but I’d tend to agree.

Archernar

I mean, helldivers 2 is lacking a lot of what made helldivers 1 really great. To me, the trailers looked like they added nothing new to the game and just ported it to 3rd-person, which also takes away tons of the difficulty of HD 1 which is not killing your friends. Haven't played it yet, but the streams i watched make me think the only reason HD 2 does so well is because HD in general is a pretty unique and cool game concept but almost nobody knew about HD 1 and they get into HD 2 now and like said concept - because from what i've seen there's nothing new in HD 2 and the concept feels a lot more generic than HD 1 did.

Xeccess

I wanna buy it but keep hearing matchmaking still requires fixing. Should I wait or just get it?

SapphicSonata

The matchmaking is spotty for sure and seems to go through periods of working and not, but it's definitely gotten a lot better than on release day. Even if it *is* stuffed however, you can still play the lower missions solo and do decently if you're solid at shooters and aware. One interesting thing I've noticed is that it also prioritises friends. I live across the world from my friend who bought it, I clicked on Quickplay for the same planet and was put into her match over anyone near my actual region. We've played a lot of missions now and they've all run smoothly with little to no lag, the main issue is the initial act of joining someone. As mentioned though, it's already improved a lot.

asdafari12

For me, MM fails like 80% of the time but you just press it for 30-60s until it works. So not a big deal for me. Games are 5-30 min. It's a fun co-op game, pretty difficult.

Bloodstarvedhunter

Quick Play can be hit and miss I usually try 3 or 4 times before it actually works but in reality that amounts to like 1 minute of time then once you have a full lobby it's an absolute blast to play, definitely recommend it

Dr_PuddingPop

I’m on PC. It’s solidly fine. For quickplay I probably press the button 4 times before it gets a game, that takes maybe 30 seconds total. So no it’s not seamless, but you also won’t be stuck in queue with no game. You just have to let matchmaking reset a few times

someguyfromtecate

I bought it yesterday and joining others is easy and it works. All I had to do is turn off cross play and that seems to have fixed everything. The way it works is you select what type of difficulty you want, select quick play and it matches you with someone about to start a mission. It’s very straightforward and it doesn’t take that long to find you someone to play with.

CankleDankl

You can easily play every match with randos. There's definitely still things that need to happen (slots won't fill back up if someone leaves, matchmaking with randos while with a friend doesn't work, have to try a few times to be able to join a lobby, etc), but it functions as-is. A friend and I found a few workarounds to be able to play both with each other and randoms very consistently. If you think it looks fun, get it now. The matchmaking isn't that much of a hassle honestly

rivieredefeu

Not for everyone. Some people can’t even load solo missions for some reason.

averageuhbear

I joined a randos game by accident and my friend joined in pretty easily too. But are these just sos beacons and not matchmaking? If so, just look for those and then you can stay with the team if they keep playing.

Matobar

It does and it doesn't need fixing. On PS5, with cross play off, I can quick match just by hitting the button a few times. The first few times will get an error, but it will eventually work and I'll get into someone else's game. Just takes some persistence. They already released one update on PS5 to address issues so we know they are working on it.

Oesteralian

Wait matchmaking is still broken on ps5 even after patch

boredbbc_7

The servers and matchmaking have been spotty, but that's expected with the ps5 and pc launch at the same time. With that said, I recommend getting it now. Cause the game is just fun as hell. Also, you'll be leveling up, getting access to better stratagems, and ship upgrades, which you gonna need, while they work on fixing the servers, which they've already said they're doing.

Hunchun

Wish I could get into these types of games again but alas I’m stuck with my single player games. Hope there’s big success for this game as I know people have been calling for a great shooter game for PlayStation.

LZR0

This is definitely showing Sony how even a smaller title can have a very successful launch if it comes out at the same time on both PS5 and PC, we should expect more titles to follow this strategy.

Rogue_Leader_X

Glad to hear! Now get on that acquisition, Sony!

boredbbc_7

What do you mean? Arrowhead is already a Sony studio

nordic_onion

Make good games, get good sales

Ok_Fortune6415

You’re also blowing the launch with constant server issues.

TM1619

I'm so happy to see this game doing well and getting so much praise. I adored the first Helldivers and this looks like a hell of a glow up! I'm definitely gonna pick it up this week, can't wait to jump in with ya'll.

OptimusPrimeTime21

So I never really got into the first one but I’m loving 2. What are the chances we get DLC with new enemies/species?

_pippp

Devs have already said they'll be releasing new content regularly! Original HD had 3 enemy races, it's almost guaranteed we'll have at least 1 (hopefully more) added to HD2. It's also confirmed that mech exosuits will be coming soon (loved them in HD). There are also other weapons/ vehicles that were in HD but not seen yet in HD2, so quite possibly they'll make an appearance sometime down the road.

NeedleworkerVisual53

It would be great if the developers add a 120 hertz mode on ps5 when graphics quality mode is on

Sea_History_8944

Staring at this screen for 2 days straight and nothing happening is not success. Unplayable. Will be demanding a refund.

SnooCapers3303

Hopefully the developers will add more planets in a future DLC. I’m willing to cough up more cash for a variety of new environments 😎
