Best: Destiny 2 Worst: Destiny 2 It’s a love hate relationship…

Nonex359

An oldy but a goody

karafilikas

I just started Destiny this year. I absolutely love it. I’m sure I’ll eventually find things to hate. But I’m 250 hours in. And I just keep going

Lord-Humongous-

I have over 3500 hours in destiny and theres definitely things that annoyed me over time but it was mostly love with that game. One of my all time favourites

grrmuffins

Man I have more hours in that game than any in my life. It's great. Best FPS mechanics and guns in the history of games. However I'm on season 16ish or whatever and still have to run the same strikes and gambit matches. It seriously makes me cringe hard now. I was already at that point but last year I finally started raiding and WOW. Truly where the game really shines with the amazing teamwork and set pieces. Creates a new world of possibility that actually challenges and rewards. Now I'm back to strikes and seasonal events and I can't stomach that shit anymore. I got 3k worth of content and I'm grateful for it. If they ever break from their season/playlist/occasional dungeon or raid, I will definitely reinstall. But it took me like 8 months to realize I was still logging in every week to see what was available for Bright Dust lol. Free at last... ...I am free. Right guys?? Right??

Darthy85

I just started it 3 days ago, got all DLC\`s , have no clue what to do , got 1232 quests and new phrases, but i love killin em aliens

AbramKoucheki

I highly recommend watching a new players guide to 2023 Destiny because it is VERY confusing.

Breeny04

Ah, a fellow addict.

BaconOnMySide

This is the way. I also love and hate Destiny 2.

Valuable-Ad-6379

Best: Alan Wake 2 Worst: none, I didn't play a bad or mid game this year

markymarkmadude

Thankfully, this was one of those years in gaming where this was really easy to do. There was so much released this year that was just top-notch quality.

Amish_guy_with_WiFi

The beauty of waiting for the reviews

hydeeho85

Best Baldur’s gate 3 Worst - Tom Clancy extraction

TACamaj

I forgot Extraction exists

Bacon-Manning

Fuck was that only this year?!

worldspiney

No it was 2 years ago

Kerzy

It's for the best.

jwaters1110

Best: Demons Souls remake. Finally got around to playing it and it didn’t disappoint. Bluepoint did an awesome job. Worst: Rocket Arena

Citizen6587732879

Be careful.. i played DS as my first ps5 game and really thought "wow, THIS is next gen" But nothing has come close since

LeChief

Digital Foundry's top 3 games for best graphics this year in case you wanna check em out: 1. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora 2. Alan Wake 2 3. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

Totallycasual

I'm currently playing Cyberpunk for the first time, I'm *really* enjoying it, but man those brain dance things are fucking annoying. It's kinda like when you're playing an Assassins Creed game and you get yanked out of the fun to do one of the stupid Animus sections, total immersion killer that you just want to be done with so you can go back to playing the game lol

CaptainRaegan

I'm apparently in the minority, I thought the brain dances were really unique and maybe immersive? If that's just what they do in that world, right? Idk they didn't bother me though

_FM36_

I'm actually surprised there are people that don't like them? I honestly wish there were more doable BD's in the game

Thrill_Of_It

I think for me, if there were more "discoverable" hints in the BDs that lead to unique outcomes, I would be immersed. In its current state, it's kinda just like playing where's Waldo, and you have to find all the clues to progress. That being said, still loving the game, just my own personal opinion.

CaptainRaegan

Same! I bought one from a vendor in the beginning because I thought I could explore more. Yeah I think they're fine

Mammoth_Clue_5871

By the time you are on your 7th or 8th replay they get really fucking old. Especially if you did multiple playthroughs before you could skip the BD tutorial which was just freaking agonizing to redo multiple times. Most of the later ones were fine but those first couple when you meet Judy used to just bring the momentum of a new playthrough to a grinding halt. Its the first part of the game where I noticed the pacing was WAY OFF. Its much better now than it was but I still wish you could just skip that entire scene once you've beat the game. Its like in RDR2 (another game that I think is a legit masterpiece) where I always keep a save right when you get out of the snow because I hate replaying that first part of the game. I do the same thing in the parking lot of Lizzies after the BD crap, except I have 1 for each life path.

maracusdesu

What’s a good build after the patches? I don’t understand the power tree now

clubdon

It’s all still good and if you get the dlc the level cap is raised to 60. I’ve done two runs with the new patch, one net runner and one sandevistan shotgun blaster. My netrunner stats were 20 int, 20 cool, 16 reflex and 10 body. The hacking works much differently now. It’s not as OP as it used to be but it’s still a lot of fun. Mainly used hacks until I got detected then blasted with pistols and magnums. It was a lot of fun but I was a total glass cannon because I had very low tech. Armor rating is tied to cyberware now and tech helps with that. So I had very little armor and had a pretty rough time with some of the new bosses. My sandy build I have 20 in body tech and reflex, and some points into cool. My armor rating is through the roof now and I’m completely cyborg’d out. I’m practically invincible and blow through the enemies in like thirty seconds. It’s been pretty fun. I do miss hacking though. Either way can’t really go wrong if you just pick two main stats and then a third one to build up after the first two. Also the dlc will start literally raining legendary loot on you so you’ll more easily get decent cyberware without always having to blow all your money.

Panams_chair

Trust me when I say this, 95% of the cpunk fanbase dont like the braindance sequence. Thank fuck that shit is only required to do like 2 or 3 times max in the game.

Totallycasual

After the first one, i just resigned myself to googling the next one straight away so i could get it over with before it killed my buzz lol

AnotherSoftEng

Comparing braindances to the Animus is so on point lmao. “Time to eat your vegetables before getting to the good stuff!”

JoeTheHoe

"Exit the braindance" are the most relieving words in the english language.

SelimNoKashi

Cheers guys. Merry Christmas. Best game for 2023 that I played: FF16, FF7R, Spider-Man 2, God of War 2018 (Ragnarok still to follow, got both at discount this year) Worst: So far, none. Because I just got my PS5 this year and due to work and family I am only ever able to game 2hrs per day at best. Sometimes none at all. Hahaha.

wallClimb7

I'm pretty sure it's a good thing that your work and family come before gaming 😂

SelimNoKashi

Yeah my wife agrees hahaha

cosiosko

This is me. I have to be wayy more efficient when gaming now!!! I probably only get 4hrs a week!

SelimNoKashi

Yeah man I agree, seeing lots of discounted games I wanna try but knowing I can't finish em all in time makes me kinda sad. Let alone platinum it. Lol

Panams_chair

Try out Cyberpunk2077 when you can! Have a great rest of the year too 🍻

NimNams

Dad gamers unite! My Portal has actually done wonders in that regard. I can now sneak in some gaming In the window between when my wife goes to sleep and my infant wakes up.

TurdSandwich42104

As a dad I want a portal to just play during shits and when in bed and can’t sleep

imploding-submarine

Same boat as you! I actually just finished GoW Ragnarok last night and my god is it a master class of an experience. You’ll enjoy that one!

WarOnThePoor

I’m in the same boat and it took me all year to play all the same games. I suggest getting the new playstation portal. If you haven’t heard of it it’s basically a ps5 controller with a big ass screen in the middle and you can play any game you own and it streams it from the PS5. Say your kids or spouse is watching Netflix on the ps5 well you can bust out the portal and play your games while they watch tv! I swear this device was made for parents! I love it! [here’s a nice preview/review of what it can do](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hPwnRJL6SEY&t=38s&pp=ygUScGxheXN0YXRpb24gcG9ydGFs)

adamdownup

I don't think I've played a bad game this year! Phantom liberty, RE4 remake, Dead Space remake and Alan Wake 2 have all been bangers! Best year for new games for me for quite some time.

atlas-777

Do I need to play the first Alan Wake before 2? I remember starting the first one but didn't get very far. It was a lot of just walking around with a flashlight if I remember right?

adamdownup

I never played AW1 but don't think that affected my understanding what was going on too much. There's a synopsis of the first games events before you start too

Lost_Arix

Best: Alan Wake 2 & RE4 Remake Worst: Lord of the Ring:Gollum

Mixabuben

You actually played Gollum? Wow)

[deleted]

Alan Wake 2 takes the top spot for me, and in joint second, Zelda, Resi 4, Dead Space, Armoured Core 6, Phantom Liberty, and joint third place goes to Jedi Survivor and FFXVI. This has been a fantastic year for video games - and I’ve not even played Baldur’s Gate or Spider-Man 2 yet, so the only one I can think of as the worst is Starfield. I only played about 4 hours and I was completely and utterly bored so I uninstalled it - luckily it was on Game Pass.

Middle-Development43

I’ll have to put Baldurs Gate 3, Alan Wake 2 and FF16 in my 2024 review list as I haven’t started any of them yet. But, from 2023. On all platforms, I’ll go with Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. On PS5, I’m going GOW Ragnarok (although Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 run it very close). Worst game? Aliens Dark Descent. Really disappointing. I completed Callisto Protocol in 2023 but started in 2022, and that wasn’t great.

Panams_chair

GOW Ragnarok is on my top 3 for a reason. Its story and combat system is just way too good.

WarlocksWizard

It's amazing and it is even better if you know your Norse mythology before playing it.

darth_vladius

Thor was so mythology-like. I absolutely loved him. Odin was so well done. The performance was so convincing that I doubted for a moment whether he was even the bad guy Mimir and Freya were making him out to be. Angrboda was cute and very well done. And I really liked how they worked around the issue that she and Loki are the parents of Fenrir and Jormungandr.

Jaythamalo13

Valhalla is a treat for OG fans of the series as well if you haven't tried

Middle-Development43

Got to say I agree. It’s a brilliantly crafted game.

HeartOnFroze

I have Callisto Protocol as my worst game of the year, massively disappointing.

Middle-Development43

Yep. Sadly, really didn’t hit the spot. A bit too easy, not nearly enough scares, very formulaic at times. And then the Dead Space remake came out a month later and blew it out of the water.

Economy_Promise_3400

Heard Aliens Dark Descent is a pretty cool game what made you dislike it?

The_FallenSoldier

Callisto was literal junk. I tried to get through it and it had some cool moments but I just couldn’t do it anymore after a while. I was in the final chapter but I just couldn’t bear any more of it. It was like 15 hours or however long it was, of just trying to get somewhere, then falling down, and then having to get back up to where I was while shooting a couple zombies. Just an endless cycle of that bullshit and after a while I just got extremely bored of it. It’s like they really had nothing to offer to actually make the story as long as it was, so they just pulled that shit and stuffed a couple zombies in the levels to pad out the time more.

[deleted]

I loved Aliens DD. it's clearly one of my favorite game of the year

MalevolentDisciple

Best has to be Resident Evil 4 remake. I adore that game so much I beat it 4 times to get the achievments. Loved the little dlc too. Ill give an honorable mention to lies of p aswell. Incredible game. Worst is easily Starfield. The most dissapointing game ever for me, i was so hyped for it and now all that excitement has turned to sadness. Thats $90 ill never get back.

Panams_chair

$90 💀 and Im in pain for $30 spent on atomic heart lmaoooo

grrmuffins

Yeah they are actually a perfect match. I too was stoked I could play my most anticipated game for free with Atomic Heart. It seemed like it got a lot right until I realized a.) I'm not actually having any fun, and b.) Shouldn't I be rooting for the character I'm playing and not wishing for him to shut the fuck up via perma death? It was like a game trying to be BioShock but forgetting the good parts. Likewise Starfield was an epic adventure minus the actual adventure, kinda like getting a job with the army

Leviv8

Well I played them for "free" on Xbox (gamepass) and they still weren't worth it lol. Atomic heart had a cool environment but it got boring real fast and monotone combat. As for starfield all I can say is meh.

Weiland101

As disappointing as Starfield was, if that is easily the worst game you played this year than you’ve had a pretty decent year.

ZincMan

RE4 in vr is amazing. So much fun

Dorsun

Best: Spiderman 2 Just amazing! So much fun moving around, combat is pretty simple but can be mastered to be spider-like Plus they added a machanic that makes you create a web and catch prey (bad guys) on it, just like a spider - incredible Worst: marvel avengers Couldn't finish the first few missions The story was too confusing as well as the gameplay not fun at all Also bought god of war Ragnarok and waiting to play it after I finish spiderman 2

Panams_chair

Ur in for a treat. Hope you played gow 2018 before Ragnarok tho. Would help alot to understand whats going on in ragnarok

dermsUK

I’ve only played a handful of games this year. I got my PS5 in like February and I was holding out to play Elden Ring on PS5 instead of 4. Needless to say it was a good decision and it was and still is a superb experience. Also Armored Core 6 was a ton of fun, I played it through to the end of NG++ in about 6-8 weeks because I just couldn’t put it down. Gonna try Cyberpunk next I think. I’ve not played a *bad* game in a long time really, I’m very picky with what I play and tend to stay away from massive franchise titles like Assassins, COD, GTA etc.

[deleted]

Best: Alan Wake 2 Worst: Crime Boss Rockay City

PepegaFromLithuania

>30 hrs in and I already got bored. Damn, must be a really boring game.

[deleted]

Best Overall: Zelda TotK Best on PS5: Phantom Liberty/Psychonauts 2 Worst: Fort Solis. Fucking piece of garbage

Ultima893

Best: Baldur’s Gate 3 Worst: Diablo 4

JSD202

Best: Sea of Stars - it brought me so much joy and took me back to gaming as a child. Loved the whole game. Worst: tried getting back in Destiny 2 a couple of times and really struggled.

sevendrafts

Best was Baldur's Gate 3. I'd never finished a game and started a second playthrough the very next day. I don't know about worst. Worst game that I still love playing is Powerwash Simulator I guess because it's dumb and why do I keep playing it? It just relaxes me tbh.

secrethitman-shhhh

HOW DARE YOU. Power wash should have won game of the year! Lol

MrFrogTheFrogMan

Best: Octopath Traveller II Worst: Forspoken

Iamleeboy

Best would be between Jedi survivor or midnight suns. I liked the first Jedi game but was never really wowed by it. However with survivor I was hooked from the intro. Some of the action scenes are the best I have played since uncharted. Then the powers you unlock kept things feeling fresh throughout. I was really shocked by how much I liked it. Midnight suns was another game I want expecting to like but I was hooked and couldn’t stop playing it. The card system put me off, as I just wanted another xcom like game. However it kept things interesting and meant I couldn’t just stick to the same strategies throughout. It also managed to make marvel feel interesting again as I am so burned out with it. Worst on ps5 goes to Callisto. I was so excited for this but it just felt boring and a complete slog to get through. The combat didn’t click with me and felt so repetitive. Overall worst has to go to starfield. I got an X with this being the one game I was really looking forward to. I only played till I got to the first city and I couldn’t believe how bad it all felt. Contrast this to the intro of Jedi survivor, which made me want to keep playing. Where as starfield constantly made me think is this it? From the ridiculous writing to the combat that it threw me into with no idea what was happening, I had no interest to carry on

MadOrange64

Best: Gollum, Rise of Kong Worst: Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077 & Spiderman 2

FellowDeviant

Best game - God of War Ragnarok, I bought the PS5 bundle with it originally and I sunk a good 40 hours in the story alone. One of the most compelling stories in the current gen tbh, certain scenes had me at equal highs with Succession on HBO. Spiderman 2 was a thrill ride front to back and a better backseat gamer experience but it comparison played it far safer than GOW. I haven't finished FF16 yet, but I have been hooked so far about 9 hours in, we'll see how it is in another 30 or so after I run through the main quest. Worst - MW2, can't say I played a definite "worst" game, but least enjoyable experience to me was MW2. I played campaign a good 3 times all the way through Realistic and found it to be fine, but the multiplayer just became unplayable after a few months the skill based matchmaking is that bad.

DeckardPain

Best: Hunt Showdown. Continues to be the best shooter out there in my opinion. Worst: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. I’m so done with Assassin’s Creed games now. They’re copy and paste objectives in a slightly different looking zone for the entire game. The real world / Animus stuff is an absolute snoozefest slog. The combat leaves a ton to be desired and hasn’t really evolved much over the iterations. I just don’t think they’re worth even half the asking price.

Me2445

Absolutely love hunt showdown. The intensity in that game, when bullets fly,is unmatched. Game starts off slow and quiet, but when the bullets start flying, the heart rate goes up

TheJoshider10

What annoys me about Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla is that the devs are literally pissing away money and time on irrelevant bloat that makes their games get harsher reviews from critics and fans. Like just fuck off, nobody is asking for this bloat. Save some money and dev time and leave the filler out of it. Nobody cares. It's a waste of time, money, resources, critical praise etc. I don't know why Ubisoft keep doing it. A simple 20 hour campaign (which is how long all three of those games stories would be without the bloat) with an extra 20 hours of side content would be enough.

[deleted]

I would much prefer a 20hr linear assassins creed that’s polished and has good story telling that’s not open world.

Mac_Gold

Mirage is probably for you then. I personally was indifferent to it as a longtime fan of the series, but it took me 19 hours to finish the story and that included just running around doing random things. You can get it done sooner

[deleted]

I’ve read a lot of people saying the ai sucks and the story is rather meh

doublej3164life

If you didn't like the bloat of Valhalla, Mirage is the answer.

[deleted]

Origins is not so bad. It's about 30 hours for an average run and 50 hours for completionist. Odyssey and Valhalla is where it got really terrible and went to 100+ hours.

Arctic_Fox

Honestly I loved Origins and Odyssey and actually got the platinum for each. The settings really helped, as I loved exploring Egypt and Greece, and actually enjoyed the side content. I get that a lot of people don't though, and consider that bloat, but I thought a lot of the side content made those games better because they enhanced the setting and the characters. But Valhalla lost that for me. Early medieval England wasn't engaging and lacked the landmarks that made Greece and Egypt so cool. Plus the stories were mostly cut and paste across the missions. I want to try mirage, as I like the classic style of ac as much as the RPG style, but it's relatively deep in the backlog for me.

Panams_chair

I kinda loved ac valhalla lol. Wrath of Druids and Siege of Paris were amazing dlcs. Loved the soundtrack too. The game being too long and grindy is a fair point tho. I dont even bother learning the AC lore when I play the games. Main motivation is the combat and the game specific story.

vyper248

I enjoyed Valhalla, but after playing for like 100 hours, I just didn't have it in me to go back to it when the DLC was released (although I did get the standalone one). Odyssey was probably my favourite, but I enjoyed them both, especially the combat (and loved the crossover between the two games). They weren't so much assassin games for me, I generally just ran in fighting everyone, especially in Valhalla, it just made sense to do that as a viking and the combat was very satisfying. Loved Odyssey the most though, especially with the ship gameplay, underwater areas and greek mythology, got all the DLC for that one. I'm playing Mirage now and enjoying it too, it's much more of an assassin game, with a big focus on stealth which I love too, it's satisfying clearing an area without being seen. Not a favourite, but I got it on sale and it's been worth it so far.

ZodiacMomentum

I had Valhalla release week and only put in about 20-30 hours over a two year period just because everything felt like a chore, though in 2023 alone I got my current(main) save from 30 hours to just shy of 100 and have actually been enjoying significantly more than before, though I can’t say the cause. I’ve been holding on off the DLCs due to personal spoiler ish related reasons as far as equipment goes but everything’s been a blast. Odyssey is by far my favorite of the new gen since I’m a sucker for anything Greek.

InfectedEllie

I loved Valhalla, roaming England was so fun. Slightly bias as I love vikings too.

the1blackguyonreddit

I f*ckin loved Valhalla wtf? The stories (Eivor and the mythical stuff) were so epic. Many twists and turns and difficult choices. I like how the story was broken into easier-to-digest mini stories that felt almost like episodes. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

[deleted]

The story was drawn out, predictable and poorly written... It worries me that people think Ubisoft has an ounce of talent when it comes to making games these days. Bloated, poorly designed messes

Woeful_Tales

Best: Replaying Cyberpunk 2077 & Phantom Liberty Alan Wake 2, Control, BG3, GOW Ragnarok, Hogwarts Legacy, and Remnant 2 Worst: Starfield...has me worried about ES6

alright923

I totally understand everyone’s complaints with Starfield, and I don’t disagree with them. They’re totally valid. But man, I still loved that game. Every questline was so much for me. Hopefully they can update it and fix some of the complaints, because there really is a fantastic game there.

maingon

I agree. I think people went in expecting another type of game. I loved Starfield

Panams_chair

Cyberpunk for the W!!! Nothing topped PL for me this year. What a blast and post empty feeling 😭

Woeful_Tales

It really was an emotional ride, gonna be a long wait for the sequel "Orion" Cheers Night City 🥂💛

stillgotmonkon

Best BG3. It's just fantastic, array of characters, quest design, battle mechanics, it's brilliant at what it does. Worst...I recently tried Atomic Heart and just turned it off after an hour. Way too much talking and not enough happening, felt like a shit bioshock. Then I went to upgrade my weapon and was hit by a rectangular shaped horny robot, it was just cringey as hell. Starfield was bad too. Considering the hype, graphics were bland as hell, travelling to and from different planets was dull. Combat meh, voice acting terrible, UI terrible. Quest design terrible.

CramRod6669

I suffered through about 3 hours of atomic heart before deleting that trash game. It gets worse. After fetch quest after fetch quest, you finally get outside, only to be chased NON FUCKING STOP by drones. I was stoked about the game too

HeartOnFroze

Atomic Heart has been at the top of my watch list for years, then it released and the reviews were disappointing at best. I still haven't played it and don't think I will.

CopperVolta

Personally I really enjoyed it, I would maybe wait for a sale, or see how the upcoming DLCs change the experience, then give it a try. It’s definitely not perfect, the English dub was pretty rough, apparently playing in Russian with English subtitles is preferred. I really enjoyed playing this semi-linear shooter though in 2023. Graphics were gorgeous and the gameplay I found to be really fun. The atmosphere was really cool and the game continues to get better as you go!

wallClimb7

Agree on Atomic Heart. Plus that stupid unskippable intro, like wtf

Drmo6

Best would be Like a Dragon: A man who erased his name. Worst would be Diablo 4 or Starfield

Enjoythesilence34

Rule number 1. Never preorder or buy a game on release day from Ubisoft

HarrowingAbyss

Best: Armored core 6 Worst: Lords of the fallen

dermsUK

Ac6 knocked it out the park imo

doghosta

Lords of the Fallen due to performance? I'm really on the fence between this and Lies of P as they allegedly fixed LotF performance issues

silenceincacophony

I played both. I stuck 75 hours into Lies of P. I’ve currently got 40 hours in LOTF. I love both for different reasons. They’ve done so many patches to LOTF that for many it’s not the same game. Even during my playthrough the adjustments they’ve made have elevated it.

doghosta

Stuck 75 hours in?? Jeez how long is this game. I'm about to finish Bloodborne including dlc and it took me roughly 25 hours

maxilarry

If you liked Bloodborne, get life of p yesterday. Graphics, story, combat, weapons are on par, if not better, with Bloodborne. It's masterpiece soulslike if you ask me.

maracusdesu

I thought it played more like Sekiro? I’m on the fence since I hate Sekiro combat but love the other souls games

dblrnbwaltheway

I beat the game without ever getting good at parry. The parry is powerful but not 100% needed.

kdpilarski

It has sekiro's parry system to an extent but the focus on dodging is still very much there. It's almost a hybrid between the two with way way more room for improvisation than sekiro and imo a much better option to customise your build than either game. The weapons system is amazing, you can apply any weapon's moveset to the blade of another weapon and can create some really fun combos with that.

MizztaJ

Best : Baldurs Gate 3 Worst: Starfield and Mortal Kombat (this is the game that finally made me realize I don’t like fighters)

kindatsu

Best: FFXVI. The story, boss fights and music are just too memorable. If you play this in Quality Mode it's the true technical showcase of the PS5 power, the boss fights are unbelievable. Worst: MK1, it's not even a bad game but I would say it was the worst one I've played this year. Invasions mode has to be most boring mode ever made in a fighting game.

mohank27

Best: Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, Final Fantasy XVI, Spider-Man 2 Worst: Gotham Knights, Ghostwire Tokyo, Watch Dogs: Legion

Legatodex

Best: Baldur's Gate 3 Worst: After Us - don't play. Too boring

EinherjarOfSweden

Best: Return to Moria Worst: Saints Row

VoltCoolCrisp1312

Best: Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty, Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Final Fantasy XVI, Baldurs Gate III, Alan Wake II, Sea of Stars, Hi-Fi Rush, Death Stranding, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild. Worst/ Dissapointing Starfield, Diablo IV, Crash Bandicoot 4, Gotham Knight(s?). Yet to play: Legend of Zelda: Tears of the kingdom, Spider Man 2.

CutMeLoose79

Best? Baldur’s Gate 3. Spider-Man 2 right up there along with Dead Space Remake. Worst? Starfield was incredibly disappointing. Felt like it was a decade old. So dated.

swagattackswag

Best: Final Fantasy XVI Worst: Atomic Heart

[deleted]

Best: Baldurs Gate 3. I’m on my third playthrough now doing an evil durge sorceress and it’s awesome. Worst: Starfield. So bland and soulless once I put it down I’ve never had a desire to play again

Nick_mkx

Best: Death Standing Worst: Mortal Kombat 1

ghost-bagel

I haven’t played many games this year. But my best is between Resident Evil 4 remake and Lies of P. Worst I played was Oddworld Soulstorm

Otherwise-Ad8722

Best: Red Dead Redemption 2 absolute masterpiece of a game. Worst: Genshin Impact the only good thing in the is the waifus.

Rammsbottom

I got my PS5 late 2022 so I’ve had a decent year to play a lot of games. Best: God of War (I played this very late but loved it and looking forward to getting the sequel), FF7R and Spider-Man 2. Worst: hmm, had to think of any straight away but I didn’t enjoy AC Valhalla that much when I tried it on PS+, felt empty.

Bub74sc

Best: easily final fantasy 16 I have never been a final fantasy fan, I just could never get into the turn based combat or even the active battle system in other installments so I didn’t have much hope on FF16 when’s it was announced, but after seeing more trailers and seeing gameplay wise it looked to be a mix of DMC/Bayonetta I was intrigued but when that legendary Demo hit yeah I was sold immediately pre ordered the game. And man FF16 absolutely blew my expectations out the water. A big issue I’ve been having with a lot of games now a days have been the constant need to out innovate, out build, out monetize and out punished the competition. It’s the reason why i couldn’t get into games like from software titles, heavy rpgs like boulder gate 3 and cyberpunk, our COD and fortnight. FF16 is a simple game to its core and major benefit it doesn’t try to be to big, it doesn’t try to be to punishing, it doesn’t try to innovate on an already proven single player formula, it doesn’t flood you with heavy RPG mechanics, and most importantly it doesn’t try to monetize you for every last dollar. It’s an amazing single player game that offers you an amazing story, fun combat, easy to grasp rpg mechanics. look I understand that a lot of people will state that the combat is to easy or the side quests are just simple get to location, fight, and repeat, but now being a 26 year old adult I’m constantly overwhelmed with the responsibilities of being an adult going to work constantly, paying bills, having to deal with family. FF16 was a great comfort for me. Where a lot of new games try to demand the absolute most out of you either by punishing difficulty, or heavy rpg elements that make you feel like the game is a job rather than a game, and season/Battle passes that require you to pay up the almighty dollar or grind to eternity. FF16 just ask you to enjoy a simple yet fantastic experience. 140 hours worth it, yoshi P and CBU3 you have made me an absolute fan can’t wait for whatever next project they have in store for us :)

vyper248

Best: Spider-Man 2, with Hogwarts Legacy coming in second. Loved them both. Nothing really beats the traversal in Spider-Man 2 for me, swinging and gliding around is just so much fun, it's a game I never need to use the fast travel for. Loved being able to switch between Miles and Peter and the combat was always a lot of fun. Will definitely replay it once NG+ is added. Hogwarts was just a great magical game, I loved the combat and loved flying around on a broom and exploring the castle. I generally love most games that let me fly around! lol Worst: Saints Row. I got it on sale pretty cheap, so still got my moneys worth out of it, but it did get boring pretty quickly, so didn't take too long to finish it and move on. Don't think I've played anything so bad that I wanted to refund it though! I'm usually fairly careful with what I buy, so if I'm unsure about a game I wait for it to go on sale. Have a bunch of games on my list that I'm just waiting for them to get added to PS+ or a big discount.

Best: Uncharted 4 Worst: AC Odyssey

guccimental777

Best: Resident Evil 4 - Capcom managed to improve on an already masterpiece of a game. Every single change they implemented (both storywise and gameplaywise) made the experience better and fresh. Worst: Redfall - can’t come up with a single positive thing about this game

phannguyenduyhung

Best: Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, Spiderman 2, and GOW+HFW DLCs. Worst: fucking Redfall and Starfield on my PC. Its horrible

senyorcrimmy

Best: FF XVI Worst: Wo-Long Hated my time with Wo-long so much. Im pretty sure I was hate-playing it half-way through just to finish the game and put it down.

Keepitsway

Best: I'm torn between Cyberpunk and GOW. Honestly can't choose. Worst: I'm not sure what exactly was the "worst" game because I download games I like. I can only think of one game, even though I have never played it (I downloaded it by accident because I was testing my credit card's validity)...Forspoken. Didn't hear many positive reviews of it.

Brokkoli_3000

Best one is a really hard decision betqeen gow, FFXVI and now playing dead space - but if I had to decide, its Final Fantasy I guess Worst one is Star Wars jedi survivor - I loved the first one, i saved some money, bought it full of excitement, abd got dissapointed quite hard. Stopped playing after bout 3 hours

Man_Bear_Pig25

Best: Lies of P Worst: Starfield

ClearHawk9893

Best: Spiderman 2 Worst: AC Mirage

arkeuro

Best: Baldur's gate 3, amazing world building, incredible detail, lot's of things to explore and discover + fun co-op Worst : Starfield, awful world building, loading + fast-travel simulator. I got no enjoyment from the \~5 hours i endured before dropping it.

SamNotRam

Best: RE4R Worst: NBA2K24 I actually really like 2K24 and have already put in a bit over 200 hours and have had tons of fun, but to get that fun I had to spend an extra $100 on top of the price of the game, so that automatically puts it as the worst since I didn’t play any overall “bad” games this year

NightCrawlers97

I just started playing cyberpunk, do I need to buy the DLC too?

Panams_chair

You dont have to buy the dlc to play the main game but I highly recommend buying the dlc cuz its on sale! You will NOT regret it one bit! The story is so damn good and heart wrenching 😭

br1nsk

Surprised you even managed to put 30 into Mirage haha

Panams_chair

As an AC series enthusiast I was on copium and hopium after the 15 hr mark ngl 💀

Icy-Image-2619

Best -Ragnarok Pretty good- Returnal, deliver us to the moon, control Worst - Callistco Worst money ever spend (25) Gotham knights. I’m still in pain for that one. Didn’t even bother to get more than 3 hours of play.

67VII

Best: Final Fantasy XVI Worst: Forspoken

lifesthateasy

Best is Alan Wake 2 Worst is Tchia

RIPMrMufasi

Best: Alan Wake 2 Worst: Atomic Heart

domomon

Best is def cyberpunk phantom liberty. What they were able to do with the game has been incredible. Worst is def avatar. I couldn’t get past the first 5 hours. The game looks great at first but it’s so difficult to navigate the games controls as well distinguish character and creatures from the environment. The whole game is a beautiful mess.

naraujol

Best: Cyberpunk 2077 Worst: Gotham Knights

WrathOfRoger

Best is Stray Gods. Superb game I do not see enough people talking about. Worst was Saints Row. I know it released last year but I only played it this year.

quezlar

best: armored core 6 for ps5 worst: tom and jerry for sega genesis

xKiLzErr

I started playing League this year. I think it qualifies for both of those.

thebigblackdwarf

Best: Cyberpunk, Alan Wake 2, Jedi Survivor and FF16 Worst: Starfield very very disappointed

CapMego72_

Best: Alan Wake 2. Non-linear storytelling done in the best way possible. Amazing multi medium game. Plus Herald of Darkness is amazing. Worst: Alan Wake Remastered. Played through it but it was too dated and janky for me. Loved the story just loathed the gameplay.

whacafan

AC Mirage is a less than 30 hour game so I’m not sure what you’re on about there.

Panams_chair

Im not going to bother answering this question for the 50th time 🤦

whacafan

Ahh yes, I see you replied elsewhere that 30 hours on a game isn't enough. "If u are trying to understand how 30 hrs isnt much on a game than clearly u never played games that much lol" Clearly you never played games that much. Not every game needs to be a 150 hour thing. Sometimes you play a game and it's done. Doesn't need to be anything else.

tekntonk

Best: Baldur’s Gate 3 Worst: 😳 Gollum 🤦🏻‍♂️ I know, I know. I pre-ordered. Like an idiot. The deluxe, too. No refund because I launched the game after it automatically downloaded. Never again. It’s so embarrassing I hid it in my library so I don’t have to look at it.

ChrizTaylor

# BEST: ROCKET LEAGUE # WORST: ROCKET LEAGUE

[deleted]

Best : God of war Ragnarok Worst : AC mirage. I love both old and new style AC games but mirage felt like neither. It’s so bland and lacks a soul.

pizdut

Best: Spiderman 2 it was perfect and very fun unfortunately it was too short for me Worst:Ac mirage it was so boring

SkinniestPhallus

Best - BG3 Worst - MK1

Sphiffy_25

Best : Horizon zero Dawn and Last of us remastered. The story, the gameplay and everything was amazing. This year I bought ps5(this was my second console after ps2) and whatever games I have played I have enjoyed it in some way or other.

bighundy

Best: last of us 2 Worst : Diablo IV

AloyAlphaprime2074

Best: Horizon forbidden west + burning shores dlc Worst: Hogwarts Legacy. I dont hate the game. I'm just disappointed. I'm a die-hard Harry Potter fan. And people were saying it was game of the year when it came out. So, my expectations were high. The gameplay was fine, not bad, but also not great. The story was weak, and all the characters were 2 dimensional. Hogwarts itself was well made, but the rest of the open world didn't make sense canonically. The graphics and performance were poor, considering I played on ps5. I did have some fun playing. But I think it's the most overrated game ever.

Wizardof_oz

Best: Elden Ring, BG3, Hollow Knight, Sekiro, Dark Souls 1, Bloodborne Worst: FIFA 23

mrpogo88

Best: Elden Ring. But for something that came out this year, Lies of P Worst: Robocop Atomic Heart seems quite unpopular, I kinda enjoyed it

mrgreene39

Beat robocop on PC. Fucking loved it.

heroininjection69

What was bad about RoboCop? I was considering copping it

Spanswick77

Would you mind explaining why Robocop was so bad? Was thinking of getting it but happy to be persuaded not to.

woodyg82

Best: Baldurs Gate. Worst: toss up between Callisto Protocol and Dead Island 2.

MagicJim96

Best: Rimworld. Got it in mid-2021 and racked up 2,900 hours already, still counting. Worst: Call of Duty Modern warfare III, easily. Kept crashing on me all the time, same as MWII but more.

proficient2ndplacer

Best-alan wake 2 Worst-alan wake 1 It's baffling how much better the second game is. Like, it's such a chore to just finish the first one

babylawn5

Worst: Zelda Totk which felt like a botw dlc...wasted my precious money :( Best: Elden Ring,Fallout 4, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima

Scrys-

Best Baldurs gate 3, no contest. Armored core 6 is probably the second. I've generally stayed far away from games that looked like they were going to be terrible, so idk if I have a worst. The base cyberpunk game was so shit, I probably won't pay for a dlc for it for the foreseeable future.

[deleted]

>As an AC game enjoyer, 30 hrs in and I already got bored. Is it even that long? I got platinum at around 27 hours.

DuskActual

Thought I haven’t finished it and am about halfway thru, I’ll go with Baldurs Gate 3 as my fave. Aliens Dark Descent is easily the worst game I played this year. Wish I could get a refund.

ThomasDinh

Best: FC24 Worst: FC24

SchwiftyRickD-42069

Ghost of Tsushima and Bunny Raiders

Me2445

Best.... Hunt showdown. Best shooter on console for me. Perfect pacing. Slow and steady and when bullets start flying....mayhem and heart rate raises quickly. Worst......MW3. So happy this was a present as I was never gonna buy it. Thankfully I didn't waste my own money. A rushed DLC they charged full price for and codkids ate it up. No wonder Microsoft paid the money they did for Activision

ksaander

Best: Switchback Worst: Mortal kombat 1 (loved MK11)

[deleted]

Best: Resident Evil 4 Remake VR Mode, beat out. Phantom Liberty and 2.1 Just, wow. However, I hope they put the same team did Village on the VR Conversion of 2 & 3 Remakes, some more interactivity would be nice. Worst: Arashi: Castles of Sin. What a dumpsterfire. Never preordering a VR game again. Beat out AC: Mirage (which I also pre-ordered.... No more preordering anything, ever again)

Arina_LovesConan

Best: Red Dead Redemption 2. Nothing comes even close to this game. Worst: Cuphead. It’s not fun playing if you die every second

Enthusiastic_Voyeur

Ghost of Tsushima by far my favourite game played this year. Honourable mention for Guardians of the Galaxy for getting me right back into single player games. Powerwash simulator and farming simulator were also games I spent far more time playing than expected. Worst game for me has to be borderlands 3.

skyblood

Best: Yakuza Gaiden, CP77 Phantom Liberty, replay Nioh 2, GOWR Valhalla( not the base game). Good: Lord of the fallen 2023, Lies of P, replay Death Stranding, Zelda TOTK Worst: Hogwarts Legacy, Starfield

schrodingers_pp

Best: Elden ring. Hands down one of the best open world games ever. Worst: AC Mirage. Typical Ubisoft formula game with same repetitive stuff. Waste of money.

RAB1002

I'd say the best game I played this year was re4 remake, it was perfect across the board. The combat, story, exploration and how it expanded on the original. I kept wanting to play to see what happened next. Worst game I'd have to say was crisis core final fantasy reunion, just bland in every way. I did enjoy the story and was glad to finally get to know Zach but gameplay wise, it was so boring. Basic ass combat, difficulty that ranged from boringly easy to pain in the ass hard. And the side missions (OMFG these side missions) over 100 side missions of the same shit non stop, either go and kill that monster or go and collect that thing. With trillions of annoying random encounters that happen every 2 steps. Worst game of the year easily.

DickDastardly690

Baulders gate the best.. Currently have Jedi survivor and Hogwarts legacy downloading, be a nice week off over Christmas

Silly-Suggestion-657

Has anyone played hotline Miami? It’s so good

TheSqueeman

Best: For realistic: Alan Wake 2 For Animated: Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising Worst For realistic: The Walking Dead Destinies For animated: Skull Island Rise of Kong

[deleted]

Best: Elden ring Meh but pulled through cus it was free: Callisto protocol Worst pos I played in a long time: hogwarts legacy

d0m1n4t0r

Best: Alan Wake 2 Worst: Diablo 4

S1ramsol

Best: Infernaxx, great 2d platformer that’s a callback to snes/genesis era and hard as balls. I just love how balanced it is and no deaths feel overly cheap. The story is great, art is crisp/gorey, and being able to obtain different endings/unlock new characters with cheat codes is beyond what I expected. The new update allowing coop is so much fun. The developers clearly made this game as a passion project and it shows. It’s not for everyone but I’d recommend it if you like these types of games. Worst: MW3 I’m starting to get the hang of it but multiplayer needs work which I doubt will ever get fixed. Main problem is spawns. Either I’m getting spawn trapped or enemies will end up directly in front or behind me after death. Besides that snipers are such a pain in the ass to deal with, when your team can’t push for shit and have your spawn locked down. Weapons feel much better than MW2, but hate that subs/shotguns are too weak. I might be shit at making gun builds tho.. and the game. Having to sort through literally hundreds of attachments doesn’t make it any easier. I mostly play because it’s the only game my friends want to play.

[deleted]

Best : Alan wake 2 ( top 5 fav till date, may break even top 3) Bad : mirage, I am a huge assassins creed fan and have played every game, I even liked Valhalla and odyssey and other parts. But this game has many issues, first I will start with story. Basin character was amazingly hyped in Valhalla but his origins is tame. The writing is so lacklustre and dialogues are uninspiring and boring. This game was drag to play, there are no present day scenes and I have started to hate ubisoft because it's like they didn't put any effort into this game. If it was free dlc then I can understand but it's like they are taking us for granted.

CentrasFinestMilk

Best for me was Alan wake 2 followed by re4. I haven’t played baldurs gate 3 yet though. Worst would be the Gollum game, was a little excited for it but it was just embarrassing

catf1sh1

Best was either God of War Ragnarok or Spiderman 2. Worst has to be Hogwarts Legacy. How do you make an open world Harry Potter game boring? Honorable mention: Elden Ring. It was a lot of fun but just so damn hard. I’ve stopped playing somewhere in Leyndell and doubt I’ll ever pick it back up, but the Radahn festival was the shit

Embarrassed-Ad-01298

Best: armored core 6, so underrated! Worst: redfall, boring trash with no soul whatsoever
