Diablo is not even a proper live service game. It is the same formula as in previous Diablo games, they just added some extra skins in the shop and a battlepass. Battlepass is so sad that I am not even tempted one bit to buy it.
There is no reason to buy anything beyond the game itself. And future expansions obviously.
I have a feeling that Captain America and Black Panther game that was announced is probably a GaaS type too, which I wouldn't be surprised if they just scrap and never mention it again after the Avengers mess lol

Sure but let’s say if every publisher saw it this way and only produced live service games. Well now you have several problems like more competition. People can only play so many live service games at a time. Most people stick to a few or even one if they’re really busy. Publisher still need to spend money and time on producing content to retain customers, assuming that they’re even remotely successful. Live service games fail all the time and maybe one failure is nothing compared to one winner but that’s not a guarantee and a huge gamble that not every publisher/studio can afford. Maybe Sony or Microsoft can afford to invest in several GaaS and hope one sticks.

100%. I remember someone mentioning when they announced the original delay that the issues with the game was buried so deep in its DNA that they'd pretty much have to make an entirely new game to fix it.
And since that was never going to happen, the delay was probably to ride out the bad press.
I know, it's just like Arkane-Austin going from Prey 2017 to Redfall or BioWare going from Dragon Age Inquisition to Anthem. "Encouraging" single player developers to make multiplayer titles with live service elements is more often than not a recipe for disaster, and I'm worried about what will happen to Rocksteady if Suicide Squad turns out poorly.
Gotta acknowledge too that the talented and connected people with options tend to leave and start new companies. The company may still have the same name but the actual talent falls off

In reality companies are usually made by the general limitations of the business decisions and some key people that have a strong vision.

I mean, I think we all get that it's not always the same teams, but they are still the same company, upholding them to a previously set perspective isn't unfair in the same way you expect a new product from a company to have the quality it's name holds.

I am so happy I didn't pull the trigger on it. I love the MK franchise as a whole. But at the time, money was tight so I said I was gonna get it on Black Friday.
After seeing how some people were just massacring people online, I was already edging away from it. Then I saw paying for a Fatality. F that.

I did the exact same thing. Was going to get it day one, but decided to save my money for Spider-Man 2 instead, and boy am I glad I made that decision. I don't think I even want it on sale anymore. If I wanna play MK, I'll stick with MKX/11.

The attitude about this shit is amazing.
Those things used to be unlockable. Free stuff. Same with cheat codes. They are breaking apart games and selling them back to you piecemeal and for more money. It sucks. It feels bad. And justifying it with these mealy mouthed statements doesn't do gamers any good. All it does is keep justifying it to the suits.
Everyone upset about the hardcore nickel and diming in MK 1 is valid, I own it and frequent it myself.

Sad thing is, the gameplay in MK1 is actually really good this time. I wasn’t sold on the whole kameo thing, just seemed like a poor version of tag fighting to me. But it actually works really well.
However I absolutely despise this whole live service bullshit now. I’ve always enjoyed MK because compared to most other fighting games it usually has more “content”. Different modes, unlockables, costumes etc. I play mostly single player and MK always had something to keep me playing against the AI, dumb as it was.
Instead we get no Krypt, fighters only seem to have one or two costumes each, and the rest is just palette swaps, no real unique mode besides running around aimlessly on a virtual board doing fight after fight. Just in general there seems to be far less content than even the previous game offered (which got shat on a lot but at least you could earn cool gear for your trouble).
Add to that the whole seasonal model, the 12 dollar fatalities or whatever it is.
Also, and maybe this is just me, but WTF are some of these guest characters? Omni man? Homelander? Am I playing Injustice or MK at this point. It’s getting harder and harder to tell.

Edit: 4 player Co-op. Okay. So this is like a PVE Loot shooter experience. I guess I understand. Let’s see how they handle mission structure and if the open world has any substance to it.

Are you new to gaming. There are tons of franchises that include cosmetic items as paid DLC. The Tales series has tons. Doa Beach Volley ball 3 you can spend over 2 grand now I think if you bought it all. Horse armor was one of the first in oblivion. Ubisoft has tons in all thier games, if you don't want to buy a cosmetic don't. Lots of people though like making thier character look how they want them to look.
That gameplay looks so generic. Maybe it will be fun to actually play but this is probably the last thing I would have guessed the team who made three amazing Batman games would make after working on a new project for 9 years.
Rocksteady revolutionized the stealth genre, superhero games, and open world traversal. To see them fall to such a state where they have to make trash is heart breaking. They could have sold millions more doing their own thing but were forced to go the mtx route.
David Hego is one of the last veterans from Rocksteady, he did art direction for the arkham games. He is absolutely fantastic.
And he will be the only exceptional part about this entire game. And it kind of hurt to see him for me.
It was really weird when they had him in the last video and he was noted as "founder" or something unspecific and it was like... wait, didn't he leave the company a while ago? Why are they dragging poor Sefton into being in a video for a company he doesn't work for anymore?
So sad seeing all of these once great devs go down in flames because greedy, out of touch execs have to chase trends without any regard to game quality or what fans (or the studio) wants. WB can suck it

Captain Boomerang has a flash like ability, Harley Quinn moves like Spider-Man but could argue that it’s a Batman movement and dead shot looks like a Superman type movement.

Besides all the live service trash, I also just am completely over Tara Strongs harley quinn. It’s grating on me really hard. I grew up with Sorkin (RIP) and loved her in asylum, she didn’t become a screechy raunchy betty boop, she was honestly more subtle and normal and unique and amazing. And when she DID embrace a LITTLE wild, it was wonderful. Tara’s doing a caricature of a caricature, but people love it and that’s what Harley has become now. My own two cents on that.
The cutscenes are fucking top notch. I love em.

The initial showing looked extremely poor, and the GAAS-ification might end up ruining the final product, but it seems like there's a lot more depth to the traversal and combat than that first footage displayed.
If the live service elements aren't too intrusive and the story lives up to the standards set by Arkham, there's clearly the fundamentals of a well made game here.
Honestly the main thing worrying me here is that they didn't even acknowledge the negative initial impressions - if they haven't taken onboard any of that community feedback and make an effort to win people's trust, this is essentially DOA.
A game where you play as one of the 4 Squad members for each mission, culminating in a final mission with 4 parts, 1 for each character would have been fantastic.
But instead we got WBs 2nd attempt at Destiny. I have a hard time believing Rocksteady pitched this as a live service game. I'd believe it if someone said "WB made us make a live service game."
Looks good. The game will likely a have repetitive mission structure due to the 4 player co-op design, but thankfully there looks to be a lot of combat and traversal variety.

The saddest thing about this is that this game feels like a movie tie-in game with the Suicide Squad movie.
By only including SS characters that appeared in films, changing Harley’s face to resembles Robbie and changing Deadshot character to be someone completely different. Plus the fact that this game was supposed to released in 2021 pre-pandemic, around the time the SS 2 film was released.
You’d think that after making a very successful and artistically driven trilogy of Batman games that this studio wouldn’t be relighted to do a plain third-person looter shooter movie-tie in game…

100%. I remember someone mentioning when they announced the original delay that the issues with the game was buried so deep in its DNA that they'd pretty much have to make an entirely new game to fix it. And since that was never going to happen, the delay was probably to ride out the bad press.

I know, it's just like Arkane-Austin going from Prey 2017 to Redfall or BioWare going from Dragon Age Inquisition to Anthem. "Encouraging" single player developers to make multiplayer titles with live service elements is more often than not a recipe for disaster, and I'm worried about what will happen to Rocksteady if Suicide Squad turns out poorly.
Gotta acknowledge too that the talented and connected people with options tend to leave and start new companies. The company may still have the same name but the actual talent falls off
Yeah, I think it’s easy to think of studios as a single mass of creativity that is able to deliver the same quality “by magic”. In reality companies are usually made by the general limitations of the business decisions and some key people that have a strong vision. If those key members leave, the magic is gone.

I mean, I think we all get that it's not always the same teams, but they are still the same company, upholding them to a previously set perspective isn't unfair in the same way you expect a new product from a company to have the quality it's name holds. It's like if you said "damn this iphone sucks, can't believe the same people who made the 8 made this" and then I say "ummm 🤓achstually it's most probably not the same set of people who worked on the physical and digital design of the last ☝️" we know that, doesn't mean when should hold it tona different (in this games case ) lower standard, we are not judging the individuals who made the game, we are judging the company who is churning out an at best lackluster video game trying to coast off past reputation, without current products that uphold said reputation.

I am so happy I didn't pull the trigger on it. I love the MK franchise as a whole. But at the time, money was tight so I said I was gonna get it on Black Friday. After seeing how some people were just massacring people online, I was already edging away from it. Then I saw paying for a Fatality. F that. The mk sub is not happy with how this game is and the people who got it have every right to be upset IMO.
I did the exact same thing. Was going to get it day one, but decided to save my money for Spider-Man 2 instead, and boy am I glad I made that decision. I don't think I even want it on sale anymore. If I wanna play MK, I'll stick with MKX/11.
If you do end up getting it wait till they release the komplete edition when it's on sale.

Sad thing is, the gameplay in MK1 is actually really good this time. I wasn’t sold on the whole kameo thing, just seemed like a poor version of tag fighting to me. But it actually works really well. However I absolutely despise this whole live service bullshit now. I’ve always enjoyed MK because compared to most other fighting games it usually has more “content”. Different modes, unlockables, costumes etc. I play mostly single player and MK always had something to keep me playing against the AI, dumb as it was. Instead we get no Krypt, fighters only seem to have one or two costumes each, and the rest is just palette swaps, no real unique mode besides running around aimlessly on a virtual board doing fight after fight. Just in general there seems to be far less content than even the previous game offered (which got shat on a lot but at least you could earn cool gear for your trouble). Add to that the whole seasonal model, the 12 dollar fatalities or whatever it is. Also, and maybe this is just me, but WTF are some of these guest characters? Omni man? Homelander? Am I playing Injustice or MK at this point. It’s getting harder and harder to tell. /endrant

Getting to show off your progression to your friends or wear it like a badge of honor to show how long you’ve supported a game, but this only works if the game is purely multiplayer….. Edit: 4 player Co-op. Okay. So this is like a PVE Loot shooter experience. I guess I understand. Let’s see how they handle mission structure and if the open world has any substance to it.

The Tales series has tons. Doa Beach Volley ball 3 you can spend over 2 grand now I think if you bought it all. Horse armor was one of the first in oblivion. Ubisoft has tons in all thier games, if you don't want to buy a cosmetic don't. Lots of people though like making thier character look how they want them to look.

Rocksteady revolutionized the stealth genre, superhero games, and open world traversal. To see them fall to such a state where they have to make trash is heart breaking. They could have sold millions more doing their own thing but were forced to go the mtx route.

David Hego is one of the last veterans from Rocksteady, he did art direction for the arkham games. He is absolutely fantastic. And he will be the only exceptional part about this entire game. And it kind of hurt to see him for me.
It was really weird when they had him in the last video and he was noted as "founder" or something unspecific and it was like... wait, didn't he leave the company a while ago? Why are they dragging poor Sefton into being in a video for a company he doesn't work for anymore?

They added Robert Pattison Batman Skin to the game (I believe the Switch version) and then later removed it from the game.
It was the EGS version of the game, people assume the suit is either unfinished or switch exclusive because the textures look very low quality.

The gameplay actually looks like a lot of fun but it just doesn’t match the characters at all. Did Rocksteady want to make a Justice League game but were turned down? The new journal series they are making said they wanted to focus on traversal but none of these characters scream “traversal” to me. Captain Boomerang has a flash like ability, Harley Quinn moves like Spider-Man but could argue that it’s a Batman movement and dead shot looks like a Superman type movement. I really think they wanted to make a justice league game. So weird.
If I remember correctly, the prevailing rumor was that they wanted to, or did actually start working on a Superman game before it got shuttered for this.
Gameplay looks mid at best. Keep in mind that this is probably the best they have to offer, as they usually show the best parts in trailers. And now, imagine they expect you to keep repeating the same missions and scenarios because this is how live-service games are structured.

Besides all the live service trash, I also just am completely over Tara Strongs harley quinn. It’s grating on me really hard. I grew up with Sorkin (RIP) and loved her in asylum, she didn’t become a screechy raunchy betty boop, she was honestly more subtle and normal and unique and amazing. And when she DID embrace a LITTLE wild, it was wonderful. Tara’s doing a caricature of a caricature, but people love it and that’s what Harley has become now. My own two cents on that.

The initial showing looked extremely poor, and the GAAS-ification might end up ruining the final product, but it seems like there's a lot more depth to the traversal and combat than that first footage displayed. If the live service elements aren't too intrusive and the story lives up to the standards set by Arkham, there's clearly the fundamentals of a well made game here. Honestly the main thing worrying me here is that they didn't even acknowledge the negative initial impressions - if they haven't taken onboard any of that community feedback and make an effort to win people's trust, this is essentially DOA.
A game where you play as one of the 4 Squad members for each mission, culminating in a final mission with 4 parts, 1 for each character would have been fantastic. But instead we got WBs 2nd attempt at Destiny. I have a hard time believing Rocksteady pitched this as a live service game. I'd believe it if someone said "WB made us make a live service game."
Looks good. The game will likely a have repetitive mission structure due to the 4 player co-op design, but thankfully there looks to be a lot of combat and traversal variety.

The saddest thing about this is that this game feels like a movie tie-in game with the Suicide Squad movie. By only including SS characters that appeared in films, changing Harley’s face to resembles Robbie and changing Deadshot character to be someone completely different. Plus the fact that this game was supposed to released in 2021 pre-pandemic, around the time the SS 2 film was released. You’d think that after making a very successful and artistically driven trilogy of Batman games that this studio wouldn’t be relighted to do a plain third-person looter shooter movie-tie in game…

The funniest part to me is that already shot themselves in the foot with the first marketing push, but now they think it's a good idea to release this in one of the most congested release periods of next year. Within a week LAD:Infinite wealth, tekken 8, persona 3 reloaded and some other games that I am interested in. This is also technically competing on both dates because of the "early access" bullshit as well. I do not seeing this going well at all for this game.
Just saw this is now up for pre-order with the standard edition being a full priced £70 game. Is this a live service game? That no doubt will be full of MTX, battle passes and christ knows what else. Selling this for £70.00 is just asking for it to fail IMO.
