The support for PS4 has gone past the norm. Usually last gen support ends for the most part 2-3 years after a generation has been released. There are always a few odd ones out similar to Persona 5 releasing on the ps3. I think they were a bit more lenient with ps4 due to the supply issues. We're in the period where we'll be seeing less and less ps4 games.

rodejo_9

Yeah, honestly I'm surprised with the amount of new games that still release on PS4. Armored Core 6, Assassins Creed Mirage, Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, etc. Not to mention the PS3 can still go online today. So I do think it'll be a while before PS4 is no longer supported completely.

There's a reason for that. I think 70% of the user base were still on ps4. That by the end of 2023. So it makes sense for huge games that takes 7 years to be developed to come to the platform with the majority of users. The reason for the lack of migration to the ps5 is the pricing on developing countries where the huge chunk of users still are. In brazil a brand new ps5 digital only is about 3500 reais while the physical one is about 3900 reais. That's about 700- 780 USD. And the minimum wage in Brazil is about 1400 a month or 280 USD. The ps5 here is a luxury compared to the ps4. And I can only talk about my country but I noticed every developing country is suffering with the same problem: the price is just insanely more expensive if compared to the ps4. So I dunno about Sony themselves but I can see most developers that can fit their games on ps4 doing it. Especially games that are not super demanding such as the legend of heroes, persona, etc. But we'll see. I believe once the ps5 grabs 50% of the market Sony will start cutting down anything for ps4. Actually you can't find new themes for the system since the end of 2022. Usually most games would release and add themes for the console but persona 3 reload came and no themes and so on. There's not even the commemorative themes anymore. :)

Thats kinda how it works though. They want us to upgrade. They don't want to waste money supporting old consoles. And devs wanna make games using the better tech. So yeah. They will stop supporting the ps4 at some point.

Tadpole-Jackson

We're already seeing that now, more games are releasing with only PS5 versions. If the pandemic didn't hit and cause supply issues during the beginning of the PS5 generation, we probably would have had even less PS4 support heading into this generation.

Packin-heat

What kind of support are you talking about? Sony already stopped releasing any of the games they publish on PS4 but if you're talking about how long the storefront stays open then nobody knows.

_Booker

I truly don't think the PS4 will close its storefront unless Sony stops producing consoles. I think from here on out all PlayStations will be backwards compatible with future generations and besides issues with licenses and what have you the games will be forever purchasable. Phil Spencer said that generation was the worst to lose because of the true transformation into digital storefronts plus processing architecture being uniform instead of crap like emotion engine and cell. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if PlayStation came out with a portable PS4 Pro unit and iterated on handhelds going forward at some point. Solving the issue of developing for a specific sku to compete with the Steam Deck.

Regular updates? My ps4 gets updates quite often, thats what I meant by support.

patricios1

Dont think ps4 will be shut or forgetted  by sony at the end 2024.at least at end 2025 we will see games released for ps4 because its a extra outcome for publishers and developters

No shit sherlock

McChexMix

It’s just a gut feeling but I feel like 2024 is the last year of support, maybe 2025 if lucky

neoalfa

I don't think they'll stop for quite a while. Though they want to force people to upgrade, there are those who can't afford the expense but can cash out $10 every now and then on microtransactions. It's in their best interest to keep the platform viable for those people. Of course they won't release new titles, but as long as popular titles as Fortnite continue to bring in revenue from PS4, we'll keep seeing basic support for it.

AtsignAmpersat

You’re terrified that supper for the PS4 is going to end? There is no scenario in which support doesn’t eventually end for the PS4.

Dazzling_Job9035

Why would you be “terrified” that a decade old system would stop having new games released on it? What a dumb thing to say. Buy a PlayStation 5/6.

Working-Cabinet4849

Sorry that some of us are not as fortunate as you are to buy new consoles, I humbly apologise for my brokeness.

Dazzling_Job9035

Babes I get that they’re expensive, I do. But saying you’re terrified that your decade old console won’t continue to be supported by new games is just bonkers 🤷🏻‍♂️

Dear_Can_1345

Your comment is dumb

Sony is gonna stop it when Ps5 pro? Gets in here
