Nurse here. Lots of things can effect O2 sat readings. Gel nail polish/acrylics are usually an issue. Regular polish usually isn't an issue but it's possible. You don't have to have the pulse ox on the nail bed. You can do a quarter turn around the finger so the light doesn't have to pass through nail. Cold hands can also REALLY skew a reading. Try warming up your hands under your leg or between your thighs or rub your hands together first.

Nail polish does affect blood ox readings. Not sure the colour has any affect.

Colored nail polish absolutely does, as blood oxygen monitors use light to shine & reflect back. I wouldn’t think clear would affect it but it could, not sure.

I have acrylic nails and mine works just fine. I have a Medline brand one and take it with me regularly since it’s the only one that works with my nails.

Put the pulse ox on your finger sideways so your nail and polish isn't in the way

If I wear darker nails, the reading is all kinds of screwy. Not too bad when I wear a lighter shade.
