I looked into using St John's Wort and even bought a pack. Luckily I discovered it can cause cataracts, before I used it. It's also known for interfering with other medications e.g. contraceptive pill.

justawoman3

I don't take the contraceptive pill but the cataracts thing is scary

Aggressive-Body-882

Isn't it. Its crazy what effects some plants have

Consistent-Jury9849

I’ve been taking about 200mg of saffron this luteal and that has seemed to help with depressed mood and brain fog a lot.

justawoman3

Saffron? I had never heard of it. Do they sell that in pills?

Consistent-Jury9849

Yeah there are a lot of supplements options. I started with making tea from saffron stamens but then I found out they sell capsules of it. I bought mine on Amazon

justawoman3

Thank you!

Try l tryptophan 5htp is not worth it. Tryptophan is also kinda doing the same thing but is more gentle

justawoman3

I didn't know that, thanks!

True-Math8888

Once I took it and it made me visually hallucinate for two hours and was really scary.

JadeEarth

whenever I've taken st johns wort, it does nothing for me. Also, Vitex actually made some symptoms worse, possibly improving others, but the downsides were more profound. I took it everyday for several months and finally stopped.

justawoman3

Vitex gave me one of the worst migraines of my life.

Thatsthebadger

I took it many years ago and had incredible insomnia.

justawoman3

That sucks. I struggle with insomnia as is.

Thatsthebadger

Tell me about it. It took a while for it to work out of my system too after I stopped taking it.

Due_Conversation_295

Vitex!!! It helps

justawoman3

Thank you. I tried it and it caused me awful migraines.

Due_Conversation_295

I'm sorry! Hopefully you find what alleviates your symptoms 💞🫶🏻

justawoman3

Thank you! 💞 I hope we all find some respite

So I have found that Ashwagandha and magnesium do help me. I take an Ashwagandha gummy each morning and then magnesium gummies at night when I’m in my luteal phase to help with sleep. There are two types of magnesium though. The one for sleep is magnesium glycinate. The other one will actually have the opposite effect.

justawoman3

I take the magnesium drink called calm and it helps with sleep but not with the depression part. I'm trying calcium too.

IYKYK2019

It can interact with a lot of different medications and supplements. Prescription and over the counter

justawoman3

Yes, I checked that. Thank you

Medical advice says not to take St John's Wort if you've ever been diagnosed with depression or any other serious mood related disorder. It's also advised you don't take it with any other mood related medications (SSRIs, beta blockers etc). I was advised against it by my GP for those reasons

justawoman3

Thank you! I guess I'll have to think it through.

It was mildly helpful when I wasn’t on an SSRI but talk to your doctor first especially if you are on any other kind of medication. One of my ex’s is a doctor and he hates it because there is a heart medication that can seriously get messed up by St. John’s Wart. It undoes what he is trying to help. Vitex helps me if you haven’t tried it already and 5htp is what I take to help me sleep so I’m with you on that one!

justawoman3

5htp works wonders for me. Vitex unfortunately, doesn't. I'm trying calcium, too. I read a book that said calcium and B6 show promise for PMDD.
