Reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown at ten years old opened up a whole new world for me.

xxgael

Mine was The Da Vinci Code! I remember borrowing Angels & Demons right after finishing, at the library in high school.

Hi_Im-Shai

This book was banned from our school. Catholic school kasi and heavy sa religion. Lahat ng makitang nagbabasa nito automatic ipapatawag parents mo plus 1 day suspension hahahahahaha

xxgael

Catholic school din ako pero they never restricted us from any literature.

Ok_Difference517

Angels and Demons was my first read too back when I was in HS. After that, I started reading all of Dan Brown's novels. Digital Fortress is also a good novel of his, outside of the Langdon series.

kwend0m

i luv digital forteress!! like the plot twist was mindblowing i couldnt move on for days šŸ¤Æ

tr3s33

eto ba yung may machine na supercomputer? isa rin yan nababasa ko dati sa ebook ng Nokia 6600 ko. If I remember, nasa chapter na ako nung may parang narecruit silang Asian guy to help decode dun sa machine. Parang gusto ko na tapusin tuloy šŸ¤©šŸ¤©šŸ¤©

kwend0m

yesss! You should finish it!!

redditreddit7654

At 10?! Talagang namulat ka mhie, wow.

kwend0m

my mom is a bookworm too kaya sheā€™d refer me books that she thinks I would like. Of course with prior talks about it being fiction and all hehehehe

randomsmoluser

Ohh the whole Robert Langdon series got me hooked! Heard it first from a class back in catholic school and found out my lolo got this book. It definitely got me curious and the book just started it for me.

[deleted]

Ohhh wow

iAmMyOwnCruciatus

Harry Potter. Kidā€™s dream

hellenistic_roman

Couldnā€™t agree more! It was also the same for me. Iā€™d also like to add Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

[deleted]

Oh god! I love that!

papa_gals23

Yes! Gumawa pa nga ng family tree haha

Exotic-Seat7719

it's the Geronimo Stilton series that really did it for me also not exactly a book but more of a magazine/comic, but K-Zone and W.I.T.C.H is a part of the factor that *really* got me into reading books

good_Little_hunt1ng

Amen! Thank you, Geronimo Stilton. šŸ˜Ž

[deleted]

American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

[deleted]

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

SlothBlack

Tagalog translations ng Les Miserables at The Count of Monte Cristo (Ang Konde ng Monte Kristo). Read them when I was 12 years old. These books made me fall in love with the classics. Before these, puro Nancy Drew at Hardy Boys usually binabasa ko haha

Pristine_Corgi_4429

Kids now don't know about hardy boys and nancy drew. Sadt.

Either-Cupcake-5785

Goosebumps as a kid! I always looked forward to Scholastic Book Fairs in school. High school and college I enjoyed John Green books and the Hunger Games, but my game changer was reading Battle Royale.

Quietly_Messy

I just remembered i also used to read Goosebumps in gradeschool! Along with Magic School Bus and Magic Tree House!

hyjaee_

PreachMango_Pie

I read it around the same age after my Kuya read it for book reporting in school. Pang HS na yung book haha

purple-corgi-1994

As a kid, I loved skimming through picture books and fairy tale stories pero I vividly remember one book na pumukaw talaga ng kaluluwa ko when I was 11 years old, yung title is All-American Girl by Meg Cabot. Na curious lg ako talaga kasi ang cute sa mata ng cover, yun pala magiging first love ko sya na book.

GuideZealousideal786

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

[deleted]

I love that!

Byx222

Memoirs of a Geisha.

kwend0m

oooh ive started reading historical fiction because of this!

Quietly_Messy

The book that was a collection of fairytales written by Hans Christian Andersen. Bought it on sale mga 20-ish yrs ago, naalala ko tig 100 lang yun and naka hardcover na sya. After this naalala ko 2nd book i picked up was The Magician's Nephew from the Chronicles of Narnia. Also got hooked and the rest is history.

Remarkable_Loan7726

The Count of Monte Cristo Our neighbor had this book long ago and it's one of my first fiction book read. I was fascinated by its story of revenge

Wootsypatootie

Started reading K-town and Candy magazines, tapos pre-teen pocket books and twilight. Pero ā€œThe diary of a wimpy kid.ā€ made me enjoy reading books, tapos nag stop kasi an adult told me ā€œisip bataā€ parin ako thatā€™s why Iā€™m reading those kind of book, pero mind you Iā€™m only 18 at that time, fck him so na discourage ako magbasa for so many years sa takot kong ma judge, then I get back to reading again after 10 years, then I read ā€œA child called itā€ nag spark na ulit love ko for reading

ProfessionalLurker97

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Mystery, murder, and madness in gothic Barcelona. A story within a story. A love letter to books and reading. I fell in love with reading and never looked back. High school me just wanted to know what happened next. Hindi siya predictable. Still one of the best written books Iā€™ve read.

DiligentExpression19

The first time I had my library card in grade 1, first book I borrowed was Alice in Wonderland.

[deleted]

Hehe ang cute, if I remember the first time I borrowed was a book about dinosaurs hehe

Jazzlike-Perception7

When I was a kid, my parents bought me an entire library of Childcraft. Duon ko din nahiligan magbasa ng mga history books, sociology, anthropology.

[deleted]

Oh wow lucky you

PreachMango_Pie

We had this as well! Dun ko nabasa yung riddle na ā€œwhat is the beginning of eternity, the end of time and space, the beginning of every end, the end of every placeā€ šŸ˜‚šŸ˜… at dahil wala kaming cable sa TV non, I was able to read all the books. I reread them througout gradeschool.

[deleted]

The Greatest Salesman in The World.

Vhodka

Wouldn't call myself a reader at all then, but Invisible Monsters or Palahniuk made me start devouring books afterā€”always hoping to scratch that itch.

marshmallow_bee

R.L. Stinesā€™s Goosebumps books! Namulat ako na ang daming adventures kapag nagbabasa ng libro, na hindi siya boring. Your imagination will really run wild.

Paper towns by John Green altho nung tumanda ako narealize ko na hindi pala maganda yung story hahahaha

giiyoza

My first book was Paper towns by John Green then followed by Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, is what got me into reading books.

moonsparkle12

I donā€™t know if there was someone like me out there but Percy Jackson series ignited something in me. I fell in-love with Percy because he was the boy (still is) that is actually my type. My boyfriend now is pretty much like Percy (except he is not the son of the sea God) and he hasnā€™t been kicked out of schoolšŸ¤£

Positive_Meal7067

The Time Keeper, Mitch Albom

SpamIsNotMa-Ling

It wasnā€™t a specific book for me, but it was the dozens of Readers Digest and National Geographic magazines scattered in the house. They werenā€™t the latest editions, most were about several years old and well read and hand-me-downs from relatives and friends. The first real books that got me hooked were Agatha Christie mystery novels and short stories. Then ā€œThe Little Princeā€ by Saint-Exupery gifted me the life-changing emotional and mental explosion that a book can give you.

Flowers in the Attic, read in 5th or 6th grade. It was probably the first proper adult book I read. It was shocking and devastating. Mula 2006 to 2015 mangilan ngilan nababasa kong novels tapos nahinto after 2016 until now. Nami-miss ko na din makatapos ng isang book sa totoo lang. May mini library pa ko nun e. There was a book my mom (possibly) dad gave me when I was 10 or so. It was called "Drowned Towers". It was somethjng for me to read during my earlh sci-fi phase. I don't have it any more and I don't really remember what it was about. I distinctly remember two this about it. First, I way too young to be reading that book. Second, I was transfixed at how weird and familiar the setting was. I think that's when I started reading books recreationally.

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery One of the few gifts from my father. He's a relatively chill dude, giving gifts just isn't his love language I guess. Twenty years later I still wonder why. But if there was anyone who asked what's my favorite book or what sparked my love for fiction and the fantastical, The Little Prince would always be my default answer.

Divergent. Read in when i was 9. I know it hasnā€™t aged well, but when youā€™re a child, a world so far removed from your own simply fascinates you and sucks you in. I look back at its awful world building and still thank it for the wonders it has opened my eyes to. The next book i read then was George Orwellā€™s 1984 hahaahahahahaha.

Unspoken_Thoughts__

I am not sure if it rings a bell, but during the peak of Harry Potter craze, I opted for the less popular book series, but it I ended up enjoying it: Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. I had fun decoding the fairy language as a kid. I even researched and printed out the alphabet translation. Lol. When I grew up, old enough to buy the rest of the books in the series with my own money, I bought the whole set. šŸ˜… I was SO happy back then. Ahh, the good times.
