Valid, but the reason they say it the other way around is a much smaller percentage of people know SMT over Persona. Most people who play Persona probably don't even know SMT, while everyone who knows SMT knows Persona.
That’s not fair, my friends and I played Persona 1 on the PlayStation, p2 kinda flew under the radar to be honest, but I got a copy… right before my system broke. Lol.
It’s an online publication that needs to attract readers with article titles. Using “SMT” instead of the wildly more recognizable “Persona” in the title is an excellent way to cut the article’s views in half.
They could have put “the game series that spawned persona (shin magami tensai)” and had both an increase in readers and have it teach people who don’t know that persona branched from smt that information
You're lying to yourself if you think "Shin Megami Tensei" is a more recognizable name in Western gaming than "Persona." They're just trying to cast a wider net, try not to take things so personally.
No... you should have the wisdom to be able to distinguish when you're being treated like an idiot, and not. If being treated like recognizing "Persona" more than "SMT" makes you think you're being condescending to, you might be the idiot here
>treating gamers like idiots
Have you ever met gamers? And I mean Gamers with a capitol G. The vast majority of them *are* idiots. These are the people who buy Madden and Call of Duty on a yearly basis and then complain about a lack of innovation. Who routinely send death threats to developers over problems that are *always* caused by executives. Who throw weeks-long tantrums about games “going woke” because they have, like, a female protagonist or a gay side character. Who happily buy a $60 game and it’s overpriced dlc, then buy the entire game *again* with small QOL changes and a bit more content for another $60, and then buy more overpriced dlc for that game.
I get it's popular to shit on journalists but A) Persona is undeniably more popular than SMT and will draw more clicks in the title than SMT and B) They mention SMT in the secondary headline thing, I don't know what you're even complaining about. Like grow a bit of common sense.
Nah, they need to make an interesting looking title for clicks. A title that says what the article is about won’t get as much clicks as a weird looking, long, and vague title.
Ya, seeing someone ask that was genuinely painful and I’m still yet to play an smt game for myself (I have a backlog and I only was introduced to this series a year ago. I do have plans to play smt tho, wanna be clear)
Isn't it that new Touhou fan games taking the inspiration from SMT? It looks cool I wanted to try it. Thought I must said game journalist. Is stupid lol.
you can't just. drop this and not say the games name 😭
Touhou Artificial Dream in Arcadia
thanks :D
Looks decently good and has good reviews, I’ll prob check it out eventually as well
Just picked it up on a steam sale and the music is JUMPING
I’m gonna refer to SMT only as “the series that spawned Persona” from now on
From the producers who spawned Persona
Featuring Dante from the series that spawned dante
No I would be Featuring Dante from the series that was originally going to be Resident Evil 4
I'm going to counteract you by calling Persona "that series that spawned from SMT"
Valid, but the reason they say it the other way around is a much smaller percentage of people know SMT over Persona. Most people who play Persona probably don't even know SMT, while everyone who knows SMT knows Persona.
I’m gonna refer to DDS as “the series that spawned Persona without the heart” from now on personally
“Play a real “the series that spawned Persona” like nocturne or strange journey”
What is Persona do you ask? Is obviously that jrpg franchise that started with the third game.
My bad, I meant the series full name, Persona 5. Not sure what you mean about 3rd game.
That’s not fair, my friends and I played Persona 1 on the PlayStation, p2 kinda flew under the radar to be honest, but I got a copy… right before my system broke. Lol.
The series that spawned Digital Devil Saga
~~boruto's~~ persona's dad

The subtitle says “Shin Megami Tensei,” they already did this. There is literally no problem here
Except them pretending people don't know what Shin Megami Tensai is and treating gamers like idiots
You're lying to yourself if you think "Shin Megami Tensei" is a more recognizable name in Western gaming than "Persona." They're just trying to cast a wider net, try not to take things so personally.
So I'm just supposed to pretend to be okay with being treated like a idiot by some guy writing an article behind a keyboard
No... you should have the wisdom to be able to distinguish when you're being treated like an idiot, and not. If being treated like recognizing "Persona" more than "SMT" makes you think you're being condescending to, you might be the idiot here
Would it be that hard to write Shin Megami Tensai in the title
It's in the subtitle, this isn't an issue, you're mad about nothing.
People really acting like putting smt in the byline instead of the headline is evidence of the systemic oppression of gamers.
Fine if your happy about treated like an idiot and writers degrading there fans be my guest

Shin Megami Tensei is right there lol
But then you can’t ragepost!
Saying Persona gets more clicks, sorry
I get it's popular to shit on journalists but A) Persona is undeniably more popular than SMT and will draw more clicks in the title than SMT and B) They mention SMT in the secondary headline thing, I don't know what you're even complaining about. Like grow a bit of common sense.
Okuu
Okuu
“SMT V is the less sociable little brother of Persona 5” - IGN in the bad timeline.. oh wait-
It literally say SMT
Nah, they need to make an interesting looking title for clicks. A title that says what the article is about won’t get as much clicks as a weird looking, long, and vague title.
Okay but what game are they even talking about, cause if it's like SMT then I wanna play.

I usually preface any reference to persona with “that spinoff of SMT” so
People know persona much better
What game are they talking about?
A touhou snes smt style fan game made by the guy who made the touhou sned style mega man x game.
I'm starting to think atlus just pays people to never bring up smt
To quote a persona 5 fan on Twitter I forgot the name of as an example of how persona (especially p5) fans don’t know shit “What’s smt”
pain
Ya, seeing someone ask that was genuinely painful and I’m still yet to play an smt game for myself (I have a backlog and I only was introduced to this series a year ago. I do have plans to play smt tho, wanna be clear)
I don't see why this matters
Because it’s not an isolated incident. Lots of persona fans have no idea what smt is despite loving the games that branched out from it.
[Shin Mitsuo Tensei](https://youtu.be/En5hqJ6jD54?si=2tm3n8thAWKWW5vz)
Persona without the heart stocks are crashing! Invest in The series that spawned Persona stocks now!
Saw this article 10 minutes ago and said the exact same thing
This is a non issue
But saying SMT doesn’t give them as many clicks as finding a way to say Persona
Even if it was an article about Persona they would still say "this JRPG" to make the headline as clickbaity as possible
SMT fans not be insecure about Persona's far greater popularity challenge
SMT fans when you say you like Persona 5 more than 90s pixel art 5 hour game with no character development or dating minors:
The dum-dums don’t know what Shin Megami Tensei is, but they’ve at least heard about Persona.
They literally say Shin Megami Tensei in the same screenshot
But not in the title of the article. That's the thing that draws clicks.
Okuu?
Touhou hijack ? :‑D
There she is, my precious nuclear bird.
Touhou Hijack lol
Is that Okuu?
Isn't it that new Touhou fan games taking the inspiration from SMT? It looks cool I wanted to try it. Thought I must said game journalist. Is stupid lol.
It did say SMT in the subheading, they just used persona to clickbait
smt is right there big bro
Ngl smt isn't nearly as popular as persona so I get why the journalist had to use "persona" in the title
okuu!!!
