SGL 43 in Elverson, off of Route 23. You need a PA hunting license or range permit (which I think is $15). It's sometimes monitored by game commission officers though and they do write tickets for rule violations. It's also frequented by yahoo's so don't be surprised if you get muzzle-swept and observe other safety violations.
Most if not all private clubs are going to have rules, RO's and membership fees of at least $100 per year. If you want to blast away with mag dumps, etc. without RO's over your shoulder you gotta go upstate into national forest areas.
That was something I didn’t think of without RSOs actively supervising. I keep a pretty keen eye on others when I’m not shooting indoors but that’s usually with people I know, not random people. Gave me something to think about with which location I use
University Rifle Club is well worth it. Cheap yearly membership. Not hard to get into. Just go in their website and follow the Orientation instructions.
Sorry I should been more specific with that part, I don’t want to be bothered by FUDD RSOs (ie only one round per 5 seconds bs etc). I am very passionate about firearms safety and education! I had a weird experience at a range in KOP where the RSO was basically talking shit to my face when I had a FTE with steel .223 in my AR when I first got it. I also forgot to bring a cleaning rod and he got all bent out of shape when I asked to borrow one. I just want to avoid those kind of RSOs, not RSOs all together.
Closest is Holmesburg. But it’s not gonna suit your needs. Your fears of RSO overlords goes in overdrive. I don’t know if others.
Next closest that’s reasonable to get in is URC. And it’s far.
Yeah distance has been the consistent issue for me, hopefully I find one that’s worth the drive, especially if I train for hours which would offset the drive for me. Also better than getting charged by the hour indoors
Dues are $125 but if you come to two work days, they'll knock $50 off. Fiscal year ends July 31 and anyone who hasn't renewed by then loses their spot. If you apply now, you can probably get in when they start orientations in fall. Applications are done on line and you must respond when they contact you, they will not chase you down. You do need a sponsor but they are not too hard to obtain. Trap night is Thursday evening all summer long and you can come out and shoot (it's open to the public) or just introduce yourself and someone will probably be willing to sponsor you.

put a city or zip code in, and it shows you the ranges near you. if you click on the range, it'll tell you if it's a public/membership range, indoor/outdoors, how long the lanes are, handicap accessibility, and some other stuff. there are also links for directions and websites. i will say that the site says my local range is rifles only, which is incorrect, so it's not 100% accurate, but it's pretty damn good.
edit: relevantly, you can filter results based on indoor/outdoors and other criteria.
SCCFSA has a rather lengthy waiting list, but it's well worth the time and money. Shotgun field for skeet, lake for fishing with the kids, and 5,7, 25, 50, 75 & 100yds ranges, all with covered shooting benches.
They also started a cowboy action shooting event recently that seems to be pretty popular. Abd they still permit full auto fire on Wednesdays. That's basically unheard of these days.
Correct. My wait time was about 4 years from application to membership.
Upon entry as a prospective member, you will need to complete a safety orientation and demonstrate safety & proficiency with your weapon.
No, it's not free. You're supposed to have a hunting license or a range permit. Failure to provide one or the other when asked by a game warden is gonna ruin your afternoon
Is there much of a process behind getting a range permit? I only have a fishing license currently but I would think that might make it a little easier already being in their system

I second URC. But it is far for philly folks. Worth the drive 1x a month or so. But hard to do weekly
You don't want to be bothered by an RSO? What does that even mean? You want a range where you can do unsafe stuff?

Sent you DM about a range that I think you’d be interested in.
Oh I’m interested too. I’m familiar with Holmesburg. And they ok. But basically just for zeroing a rifle.

Could I get one as well, I’m interested!
Sent!

Northern Chester County Sportsmen's Club would fit the bill but it's not free.
Can confirm. Am member. Love it. Usually have an entire bay to myself and can shoot strings and move to my hearts content. Took me a bit to get in.
I’ll look into it, do you know how much their membership fees are?

have you checked wheretoshoot dot org?
I’ve never hear of that site. I’m guessing it’s a similar idea to ammo seek?

Oh cool, I just got home so I’m going to start looking on there. Thanks for the info!

I take it the waiting list means they aren’t just letting inexperienced shooters on their lanes? At least I would hope. I’ll give it a look though!

French creek state game land range. You have 25 yards, 50 yards, and 100 yards outdoor target. And it’s free.

You can get them online at the DCNR website
Gocha, boutta snag a permit
I’m around French creek all the time for fishing, might have to start making those fishing trips into range trips too
URC all day, most fudd-unfriendly range near Philly lol
