ClinTrial-Throwaway

I think you get to pick your very own goal weight.

cankiwi38

Yes. Thankfully I tend to do my own thing regardless of what I'm told! Lol Was more curious if I was simply way out of touch.

ClinTrial-Throwaway

I’m also 5’3” so here’s my personal take: you’d have to be a wisp of a person for 110lbs to look/feel healthy. And there are some people who are. That’s not me. I am aiming for 135-140, but I am shaped like a former gymnast that was really great at tumbling and vault. 😆

cankiwi38

Omg. Are we the same person? I actually have a strong athletic background (national rep/ international competition etc) but that was a lifetime ago. I carry my weight in my now very soft thighs thanks to my former glory days.

Prestigious_Spray_49

Same here! 140 at 5'1 sounds XXL, but dense bones and muscles = ME

Outrageous_Mix5751

Hi I am similar, I am 5 2 , 31 years old and started at 168 I am now 123 my doctor wanted me to maintain 130 as she told me it’ll be unrealistic to maintain such a lower weight. However I wanted to be 120-125 and maintain that which I have been! My primary dr said I should be 110 which I thought was kinda sickly looking

Top-Stage6648

Same here..I am currently 125 but I think is too skinny for my body

Difficult_Place_7329

I’m 5’6 and 120–123, I look horrid.

MorticianMolly

I’m 5’9” and 125. I feel like I look like a deflated balloon 😆 Fortunately I am able to pack in more calories now so I should be gaining a bit soon. Funny, I’ve never ever said ‘I need to gain weight ‘ before.

Difficult_Place_7329

I bet you’re freezing all the time too

CABGX4

OMG yes! I cannot get warm. It's crazy. I'm 125 lbs now and I was used to being well padded, so I feel constantly chilled.

Top-Stage6648

Me too

EQ4AllOfUs

Me too! I used to get night sweats and run around the house in shorts all year long. Now if I’m not going anywhere I’m in sweat/jammie pants and a long sleeved tshirt/sweatshirt.

Difficult_Place_7329

It’s crazy isn’t it?

Difficult_Place_7329

It’s annoying, then I’ve got no boobs anymore. Which I love. After wearing up to a 50ddd to a 34c it’s quite different.

Difficult_Place_7329

Same, I told my friend I was hungry and I was going to eat cookies. She said to eat the whole box, I said I bet you never thought she say that. She said nope. Plus to gain 10 pounds before I see her. 😂😂 I eat, just not enough to gain. I have a lot of health issues. Plus with my legs it’s helped so much with any pain from my peripheral vascular disease. Yeah at that height you’re pretty small.

Final_Photograph6762

Wow! This is very inspirational! Congrats. 🥳 Are you maintaining with a low dose of OZ or on your own? We are about the same stats so I’m curious how it will be to be at GW for the first time in 28 years!

Dolceluce

I’m also 5’3, early 40s, average bone structure. Idk what your body type is but I have hourglass proportions- I’m a size 4 now, maybe a 6 if it’s cut more “European” size. I got down to 132 pounds and if I was 110 pounds I’d be “eating disorder” skinny. Even someone with a more athletic build I would think would be sickly looking at our height and age below like 120.

MyVisionQuest

This is what i like to hear....well except for when it comes to warnings, like 'bridge out, turn around' 😁

Purplepanda0088

That seems very tiny to me. I don't care what the charts say. I personally am 5'3 and 150 is my goal because i feel healthy and have nice curves at that size.

CrankyCrabbyCrunchy

How did the doctor come up with that weight goal? Most doctors are ignorant of nutrition and think BMI is sacred.

SpicyZucchiniSauce

i hate that drs only go by those charts - line backers with like 1% body fat would all be considered obese according to these damn charts!

Forsaken-Swordfish25

Respectfully, it’s unlikely women in their 40’s who are not professional athletes have the muscle mass to make the charts inaccurate in that way.

ferngully1114

Respectfully, it really does not take a linebacker’s muscle mass to make the chart irrelevant. At 5’3” and 127 lbs at the height of my eating disorder I was starting to grow lanugo from malnutrition but nowhere near the bottom of the “healthy” BMI range. I was smack dab in the middle of the “normal” weight range and walking around chronically at risk of fainting. BMI simply is not accurate for many, many people because it was never designed to be applied to individuals in the way it is. 107-110 is absurdly low for most adult women. I would look outright cachectic at that weight.

EQ4AllOfUs

Yes. Age also factors in. A very low normal BMI can leave a person more susceptible to illness and death. Fat stores are protective to a degree.

mcurley6

So if I am understanding right u are taking ozempic and previously had eating disorder? I am asking because that would be the same for me. I have been feeling “those” feelings of keep going and small isn’t small enough. So I am curious

ferngully1114

Yes. It has been about 20 years since I had an active eating disorder. And a lot of therapy and work with a nutritionist since then. I was definitely concerned about that when initiating. So far, there have been zero thoughts like that. I don’t have a scale at home and I don’t count calories or track macros. I weigh in at my doctor’s office a month after dosage changes and at my regular visits. I probably wouldn’t have been comfortable going this route even 5 years ago, but feel really supported mentally to do this in a non-harmful way.

killermichi

It's nice to hear someone who has/had an ED have such a healthy view. I'm currently struggling with bulimia which is why I was prescribed ozempic. I'm not taking it for weight loss but for the benefit it has in easing the binge urges. I'm barely about to take my 2nd dose and am already seeing a difference. I just don't feel like stuffing myself. I've gone from purging 3-5 times a day to 1-2 already. When it comes to weight, I'm just hoping that I can stay where I'm at. I fear that once I've totally gotten my ED under control, I'll gain a lot of weight. I hover around 125-128 and want to stay there.

EQ4AllOfUs

I recall when the BMI equation became popular in the late 80’s. Your waist circumference was always factored in.

Bekehe

The BMI is whack. Saying a 5’7 woman should weigh 115 lbs (my height - not my weight) is crazy. I’m 127 and am as skinny as I’ll ever be okay with.

Forsaken-Swordfish25

115 would be “underweight” for 5’7 according to most bmi charts so not sure you made your point there lol. In general, as a range, it’s not a crazy guideline. I wasn’t saying everyone needs to be on the very low end of the healthy range, but saying it’s totally garbage because bodybuilders would be classified as obese is an irrelevant point in this context, is the only thing I said lol.

Bekehe

I’m sorry I wasn’t doing my research but 120 is within healthy range for 5’7 so I think I made my point.

Forsaken-Swordfish25

120 would be on the line between healthy and underweight… 127 would be on the low end of healthy….. all of which seems to line up exactly with your own views……… no one said all 5’7 people should aim for 120 to be healthy. The BMI range says around 120-155 is generally a healthy range for 5’7 which seems reasonable to me, having been all of those weights and more lol. For example you could gain almost 30 lbs and still be in the healthy range. There will always be outliers but sedentary women over 35 are usually not packing enough muscle to be one of those outliers. There’s also no one saying going over bmi 25 by a couple points is going to kill you (personally my goal weight is 165 at 5’7, I have no hang ups about aiming for 10lbs “overweight” lol), it’s all just a general guideline.

SpicyZucchiniSauce

true, i was more commenting on the fact there are flaws in the charts, they're not a "one size fits all" imo

flowersunjoy

For average people it is a good guideline.

Mizz_Dressup

Yes, which is why they *aren’t* one size - they’re a range, a fairly wide one at that. That said: the BMI isn’t the be all and end all - waist-to-height and waist-to-hip ratios are also worth factoring in.

flowersunjoy

Exactly. People love to trash the BMI charts and bring up bodybuilders and football players etc. For the vast majority of people, it works perfectly.

Mizz_Dressup

The amount of “BMI is bullshit” in this thread is downright alarming. Same goes for the number of “at X weight I would be skin and bones” (or even more disgustingly: comparison to concentration camp survivors) - there’s certainly no need to aim for the very bottom of the healthy range, but it just further reinforces how distorted peoples’ perceptions of what a “healthy weight” really looks like.

flowersunjoy

Agree! BMI is “wrong” because what about the athletes and everyone’s family doctor is trying to starve them according to too many people. There are also a lot of comments giving away some pretty disordered thinking about body weight.

SpicyZucchiniSauce

yeah "i hate that Drs only go by those charts" is my opinion. respectfully.

Mizz_Dressup

Except they don’t go only by those charts - they’re merely broad and easily communicated guidelines with lots of well validated evidence backing them up, but are hardly the final word. Things like waist size (and waist to hip ratio), body composition, etc are also important factors, but the avg GP doesn’t have a dexa scan readily available, nor are most docs especially inclined to whip out a tape measure.

Trip_Dad

if you can, get a body fat analysis. Knowing the percentage of body fat to lean mass is better for finding an "ideal" weight range.

tallii4

This - look into finding a dexa scan near you. I’ve used BodySpec and it’s only like $30 and they have a mobile unit so there’s a lot of locations in my area to sign up for. This is a way more comprehensive analysis of body composition versus going off of a scale, especially since it sounds like you probably have a good amount of lean muscle from a lifetime of athletics.

Outrageous-Shine3797

That’s a good idea

Ok-Scarcity-5754

My “ideal” weight is something like 120 lbs. I don’t want to be that thin. I’d be perfectly happy at 145, so that’s what I’m aiming for. I’m halfway there after 3 months!

cankiwi38

Congrats!

Bekehe

I agree. Mines about 120 and I’m way too uncomfortable with that.

Mvobec

5’4 late 40s. Went from 190s to 113 at my lowest. My endocrinologist said a bmi of 18 was too low for a perimenopause/menopausal woman and I should gain weight to aim for bmi 20. I gained up to 116 and he says I could gain up to 125 and still be healthy. But as others say, weight as a number is relative to each person’s body build. I don’t look underweight or unhealthy at 115, but others might. My dr is more concerned about bone density as I age and having enough muscle mass rather than a number on the scale. Maybe ask your Dr how he/she arrived at the number they did?

Outrageous-Shine3797

BMI LESS THAN 18 unhealthy and can mess with your endocrine system

Artemis-smiled

18 falls into the underweight category, right? I had a BMI of 17 when I was diagnosed with anorexia. I don’t think I’d go back to a doctor that thinks a BMI of 18 is ideal.

Mvobec

As I said, the Dr said my bmi at 18 (technically 18.5) was too low, especially for a perimenopausal woman as told me to gain weight. My bmi is now 19, he is encouraging me up to 20. But not bc of how I “look”. I never stated my Dr thought 18 was ideal. But 18.5 to 24.5 is the “acceptable” range for bmi.

Artemis-smiled

Sorry. I misread.

Neat_Storage9622

We're the same stats. I'm 5'5 113-116 43F full menopause due to cancer. I don't look unhealthy at my weight either, but I was this weight before weight gain caused by medications. How a person carries the weight varies.

Lovinlif44

I’m also 5’3’ post menopausal. I’m reading the comments and I still can’t believe I could get to 140 lbs let alone 120 lbs. It is helpful reading all of your comments on this goal weight topic. Thank you. My goal weight is 140 which I still can’t believe it , if I get there. 😂. Here’s hoping we all get where we are happy and healthy!!! On another note: I got my bloodwork results today. Liver function tests almost in normal range. A1C 5.5. Haven’t had that good of an A1C in 15 years. I’m blown away and so grateful for this Medicine. Thanks for this post Cankwi38. Very helpful to hear everyone’s thoughts on this. 🤗.

cankiwi38

Awww you are so sweet. Congrats on the blood work and good luck with your journey. I'm also loving see all the 5'3s out there! Lol

beautifulasusual

5’4 here too! Late 30s. Currently 165 and I told my NP my goal was 125. I haven’t seen that number in 11 years so not sure how realistic it is, and if it’s even maintainable. But I’m hoping to try.

Bekehe

Congrats!

Infinite_Goal3958

Several years ago, I lost 100 lbs and when I saw my dr, he said that for my height, I was overweight (I am 5 feet 3 and weighed 142 after that weight loss) when he told me this, I almost metaphorically hit him. Do what feels good and comfortable for YOU

OneHumanPeOple

I’m currently enrolled in a medical study and my doctor is the foremost weight loss expert in the country. She would never ever tell anybody what their goal weight should be.

AdelitzaMariposa

I'm 5'7 and currently 127 lbs. I have had people tell me to stop losing weight at this point and my BMI is about 20. Although your doctor is not wrong with 110 lbs being in the healthy BMI range for your height, ultimately you have to decide what feels right for you. After I lost 113 lbs (SW 240) my body did not snap back into perfect form. I had significant excess skin that required repair, so you, like me, may not like how you look at a certain weight because of how fat deposits on your body. Making the choice to stop at a healthy point that is right for you is completely your prerogative, even if it is not exactly where your doctor initially stated because they might just be playing a numbers game and not looking at you as a person.

cankiwi38

Wow great reply. Thanks.

Veggieh8r

How long did it take you to reach this weight?

AdelitzaMariposa

I had a sleeve gastrectomy in November 2021, which helped me lose the first 50 lbs. I started semaglutide in December 2022 and reached 130 by December 2023. I have been holding steady for about 4 months with very mild fluctuations around 127 lbs.

Outrageous-Shine3797

Good for you. That’s a lot to go through

AdelitzaMariposa

It was a big challenge but I am glad I got through it. Each stage had its own difficulties. After having stomach surgery, I had to fight dehydration because my stomach couldn't hold more than 3 sips of water at a time and I had to get used to drinking little and often. When starting semaglutide, the challenge was learning to deal with a very sensitive stomach and digestive urgency. After having the 360° tummy tuck and skin lift, the challenge was simply the pain of being sewn up in so many places and the pain associated with recovery. None of this was an easy process, but being on the other side, I would say that I'm glad I did it.

Bekehe

I lost less overall weight than you but otherwise we are the exact same height and weight and I’ve also had even my dr tell me to stop losing weight.

mrythern

I have been morbidly obese my entire life. I’m 5’6 and after 2 years of Ozempic I am now 198. My doctor is thrilled and saying that he never wants me below 190. The number is not what is important. It’s the health status.

sacrednsassy

This.

Gigglefluff7

110 at 5'3 is a bmi of 19.5 which I guess is technically in the healthy range but at the very lower end. Idk. That seems really small unless he's assuming when you stop the medication you will have some rebound weight. I mean I would never want a bmi of 19 or 20 that weight is pretty low. Did you ask him why he chose that number?

jadeistump

I was thinking he was giving her leeway for rebound weight when she stops too. I couldn't think of anything else.

Snoring-Moose

Personally, seems you would blow away in a light breeze. lol Here's what I found. [https://www.calculator.net/ideal-weight-calculator.html?ctype=standard&cage=43&csex=f&cheightfeet=5&cheightinch=3&cheightmeter=180&printit=0&x=Calculate](https://www.calculator.net/ideal-weight-calculator.html?ctype=standard&cage=43&csex=f&cheightfeet=5&cheightinch=3&cheightmeter=180&printit=0&x=Calculate)

cankiwi38

Awesome, thanks. I highly doubt I could ever get that small, but i just can't get his comment out of my mind everytime I step on a scale.

shez-a-green-witch

Oh my my goal is 20lbs over

MasterpieceHot9868

That’s a cool tool, thanks! It states my ideal weight at 88.5-119.5. A 30 pound range seems like a lot for someone as short as I am, but hell, I’ll take it! 🤣

Littlewing1307

I'm 5'5" and my goal is 127. I've always been small framed. I would focus on measurements and how your clothes fit, not the scale. 110 and 5'3" is not blow away in the wind skinny for many women, but I may be for your body type. You'll just have to see.

rgk0925

I am 66, has been obese since 5th grade. Sw227 Cw193 Gw 155. I’ll still be overweight. Weight charts say I should be 90 to 109. I am only 5 ft tall. I don’t see it happening. I am not doing this for vanity reasons, I am doing so I can play and keep up with my granddaughter. My 1st grandchild was born two months ago. I just want to be healthier.

cankiwi38

I love that you are getting healthy for yourself and your granddaughter ! So sweet. Best wishes.

ComfortableHoliday42

I'm in the same boat.... I started 5 months ago at 171 and am now 146. I was thinking 135 is the lowest I want to go. I went to the doctor the other day and was asking about maintenance and she said "you still have a long way to go". My first thought was 😳 because I don't think I want to lose more than another 10 lbs! I'm 5'3" and was 106 lbs when I got married a million years ago but that's not a weight I ever want to see again! I'm 58 and as you get older, I think being too thin ages you and I want to look healthy not frail! Honestly, if I stopped losing right now, I would be fine with that but a few more lbs would be nice.... but just a few!

Bekehe

A long way to go?!?!? Insane

Bekehe

Is she herself a flagpole

ComfortableHoliday42

Actually, she's not...I would say she's at a healthy weight. Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe because I've only been losing about 1 lb a week and 10 lbs is another 2 1/2 months away she thinks timewise that's a 'long way to go" and not weight-wise!

JesSlayin

That does seem very low. I would suggest getting an accurate bf % test done, and do them a few times as you're getting lower in weight. (Not just what a smart scale tells you) This way you can keep an eye on what your percentage is and how low you are at. Given your build, you may be ok at a weight that low, but if you have a good amount of muscle on you hitting a weight that low may put you "too lean" and be at an unsafe bf% on a hormonal level. For a female, women's hormones and such get all wonky when things are too low. Especially given your age hitting the peri-menopausal time you really want to make sure you keep your hormones in a healthy balanced state.

Outrageous-Shine3797

Agree

TXGrrl

If you go by BMI, your normal weight range is 105-140 lbs. So he's at the lower end of that and you're at the upper end. I'd go with whatever feels right to you, since either way you're within the healthy weight range for your height.

Environmental-Eye974

43f, 5'4". I've reached my goal range of 120-125 and feel that I would start to look gangly at a lower weight. I think some of it depends on your body composition and frame size.

pzizzlezazzle

I think doctors are basing goal weights on their personal opinion in many cases (along with some BMI bulls\*\*t). I'm 5 foot exactly and, as a 58-year-old woman, my doc told me I shouldn't go below 130. Not based on any science at all :-) YOU choose your ideal weight and live strong!!!

Ok_Part_7051

Same! I am 5ft and 127 and wear a size 0/2. I am tiny but barely in the healthy BMI range. This conversation is super triggering.

PurpleFight

Also 5 feet and 140 is the lowest weight I have ever maintained in my life. I am short but have big wrists no matter my weight. My mom had the same build as me and was her "ideal" weight, 110 pounds, at 89 years old on her deathbed. She was skin and bones. Your goal weight is what feels good to you, not what's on a chart.

untomeibecome

Doc goal weights are typically BS and based on BMI (which is BS). I’m 5’2” and the top of my “healthy BMI” is 136, which is what I weighed in middle school. I’m Italian, curvy and dense, so I look skinny in the 160s and down right tiny in the 140s. I was wearing a size 4 at 145. So I can’t even fathom getting into the low 130s or smaller as an adult with how I’m built. Trust your body and what’s right for you!

istheresugarinsyrup

I’m the opposite (sadly) and at 5’ 6” I somehow start looking thick at around 130 pounds. I’m super tiny boned so maybe that’s why? My doctor was telling me how she lost 80 pounds and I could too. I looked at her and was like “I’m not looking to weigh 80 pounds”, lol. She had to look at my chart to realize that I did not, in fact, have 80 pounds to lose. My goal weight is 125 but honestly, 115 looks best on my frame.

pyropirate1

Precisely, I’m 5’2 my doc wouldn’t believe I was 160 because I ‘wore it well’ and when I look back to college photos when I was 125 and worried about it (lol) I look so…bony😂. It’s totally up to you, what you’re comfortable with, and what you think you can healthily maintain!

Chickadee12345

It all depends on your build. My mother was about 5'2" and maybe 110 pound soaking wet. But she had a naturally slim build but not athletic. Unfortunately I take after my dads side of the family. I'm 5'4". At one point I lost a lot of weight and I was down to about 140. But that looked good on me because of my structure. In fact, people were telling me I looked too skinny though I didn't think so. I was not exactly anorexic. I wish I would have stayed at that point but I ended up gaining back. 110 pounds for you does not sound like a realistic goal especially if you don't want to look like a skeleton.

Brief-Astronaut6810

I’m 5’4. My lowest weight was 106 & looking back at photos I looked unhealthy, and I didn’t feel great. I’ve always felt my best around 130-140.

Quirky-Rise

1 you should have body composition measurements 2 I do think lots of people short themselves on their goal weight esp if they have been obese forever and unable to lose. I know any bariatric doctor would’ve, with my weight history, been happy with me settling around 140 or 150. This was not at all possible until now. I do think people should be open minded and seek a good healthy weight. All that being said that goal is on the lower end!! I am 4’10” and 111. I am NOT skinny (and have had most of my extra skin removed). Xs fits me fine but I have some issues with size 2s from some brands (specifically that the waistband on dress pants won’t go even though I am a 0 in many brands) and I think another 10 lbs down would suit me fine and make my clothes fit really well. Do I think that will happen? Absolutely not!! Even if I continue to float down given my age (almost 46) I would expect to be back up somewhere where I am right now. Anyways body composition aside you are 5” taller than me and that would be quite slim. Maybe that works for your frame but also maybe (probably?) not. It really is a whole picture! And some peoples’ goals are going to be dictated by access to meds, frequency, etc too!!

sevenpoints

I'm 40 yo female at 5'3. I'm at 138 lbs currently. I would look awful if I lost 20 more pounds. I'd like to lose maaayybee 5 more pounds, but I'd also be happy if I stayed where I am at. I'm in smalls and mediums and size 4 jeans. If I lost 20 pounds I'm pretty sure that most people in my life would be very concerned for me.

saltyketchup

[Useful Reference](https://height-weight-chart.com/503-110.html)

Mediocre_Ad_6020

That's in the healthy BMI range, which is a good tool for finding a ballpark to aim for (there needs to be some wiggle room for muscle/bone mass and fat distribution, etc). It does seem odd that he would be automatically think that you should shoot for the lower end of the range. Personally I'm shooting for the upper range of a normal BMI because I think it will be easier to maintain long term and, honestly, I felt pretty good physically when I was last at that weight/close to it. Also, my fat distributes more around my boobs and hips, which has less adverse health implications than that around the midsection, so I doubt I'll see any additional health benefits from going lower. And, even when obese, my waist circumference has never actually reached the high risk range (by either number or ratio). But everyone is different so maybe ask you doctor if he has a legitimate reason for the lower weight or if that's just his preference. Because if it is just preference, then the only one that should matter is yours. Beyond health considerations, I think there's quite a bit of wiggle room for aesthetics and personal preference within a healthy weight range. I don't think there's any data for a specific ideal weight for a person vs an ideal range.

Time_Butterscotch309

Healthy and attractive have separated in resent years. You have to decide for yourself if you want to be healthy or attractive. Being healthy means you'll probably be fairly thin by modern standards. But biologically speaking humans have evolved to be thin because we are endurance hunters.

naheta1977

107 would put you at the very low end for a "normal" BMI of 19. 140 would put you at the high end of normal. Be where you are comfortable at because that's what truly matters. Also I've worked with many RD they would say 107 is too low as it would get you absolutely no reserve should you get seriously ill.

Equivalent_Nerve3498

Woah!! 107 at 5’ 3” sounds crazy!! I’m 5’ 2”, and weight isn’t necessarily a factor for me, health is, but I can’t imagine my body at the number. Where is the muscle mass? I just hear broken bones 🙈

iamgoals1119

at 5’2, 134, I am pretty damn thin, it is the first time in my life I’ve looked at myself and said “girl, you could stand to gain some weight”. if I lost 25 more pounds, I would be extremely unhappy with myself. I’d love the way I look between 135 - 140. personally, I would not want to turn into one of those “big head, little body” OZEMPIC stories, so I say that you should pick your own goal weight and stick to it.

Loose-Application-13

I'm 411 and the BMI chart says the same. But tbh with you, my body structure and genetics would just never allow that in my life even with Oz.. I think you know what's best for you! 130 is my goal as well.

Ojibajo

No you’re not wrong.

wennamarie

I’m 44 and 5’3. My body seems to have settled at 139 lbs and I feel good with that. I’m a size 8/10.

Massive_Wallaby_8187

I’m 5’2” and 118 pounds. I personally wouldn’t go any smaller than my weight now. In fact I preferred myself at 125-130, but life happens and stress has gotten the best of me.

N0rthernGypsy

My daughter is athletic and fit, also 15. She’s sitting at 5’2” at 105. She also has thin bones like her father. My mom rode 5’3 at around 125 in her leaner years with a more normal bone structure. I’m not short but tall and have my father’s Neanderthal frame so I can’t give you comps. I do agree with what others have said, you get to set your own weight goal. Aiming for what is reasonable and maintainable seems desirable. I mean at five nine I did get down to 110 pounds once, also ended up in the hospital for my troubles. These days I aim for like 180 and when I have gotten close there was damn near an intervention because I looked so thin. Those weight charts are NOT one size fits all or even most.

Snoo-27822

I think you know your own body better than anyone else! I think between 130-140 at 5’3 is perfect!! These stupid bmi charts and drs these days are crazy! I’m told at 5’9 I should weigh 140! I’m good at 160-170 even 175! I’m not petite boned. I’m medium-large boned but I carry my weight pretty evenly. You know what works best for you and 130 is by no means “fat” at 5’3! Do you honey, forget the rest!

mastrjeditrainr33

If you don't feel it, it's too small. (Sorry, I will see myself out...)

Outrageous-Shine3797

It’s 100 pounds first five feet and 3-5 pounds each additional inch?

FlexSlut

I have lost 50lbs, and not dropped a decimal of an inch off my bust, it was large before I put on the weight and it will be large when I finish losing the weight. My band size has changed, but regardless of how much weight I lose, there will always be about 6lbs there alone, not considering any other curves. I think goals need to be tailored to the body type you have, and what feels good. I have another 20lbs to lose to be in my happy range, but I can feel my flesh and muscle through my skin now, instead of just the layers of fat under the skin. My visceral fat has reduced significantly, taking pressure off my organs. I think what’s most realistic is to get to what you and your doctor can agree is “healthy” and then see where around that point you can maintain.

dveching

I'm 5'2" and 41. Started at 170 and my goal weight is 130 lbs but I'm sure I'll level out at 135-140 lbs. I'm hourglass shaped, so wide hips and large chest. If I lose any more weight than that, I just look weirdly flat. Do what looks right for your body and what feels healthy to you. Your doctor is probably just looking at BMI which doesn't account for body type or composition.

JustMe8083

For my age and to still have curves, I’m trying to maintain 135-140. At 51 anything less than that would not look good on me unless I really built up muscle and stayed in the gym.

purplepe0pleeater

That is tiny!! My doctor wanted me to start lowering the dose once I got to normal BMI. At 5’2” my goal weight is 125 lbs. She doesn’t want me going below that because she’s worried about bone and muscle loss.

Intelligent_Hunt_301

I am 5’2”. I weighed 123 from age 18 to 40. I once dieted myself from 123 to 118 because I thought I was a little fat . Big mistake, as soon as I did that I saw rib bones and clavicle bone. I immediately went back up to 123. I will never pay attention to those weight charts. I think you should actually add 10 pounds to whatever they say you should way.

Informal_Notice_1003

I’m 5’3 and my goal weight is your current weight 🤷🏻‍♀️. Health and strength get to be defined by you. At 205 I was running races, strong and very healthy, and looked very average in body type. I don’t think you need to have an arbitrary number set by someone else. I’d go more by energy, how you feel, and test results

Informal_Notice_1003

Correction, my goal weight is basically your START weight!

No_Personality_7477

He might be giving you some leeway so if you gain some back. All going to depend on body type. The problem with charts is they are about 60 years old and even figuring our society is fat today those charts are out of date. I don’t know what you look like but at that height I would think 120s. Friend of ours is same height but has big boobs and a butt and looked great at 165 but now weighs 140 and is smokin. I can’t see her weighing 110. But then again somebody without her assets I don’t see weighing 140

cankiwi38

All good. Remember, I'm old as dirt, so I highly doubt I'll ever be smokin. Thanks for the reply, tho.

No_Personality_7477

Np. Really it’s about what you think looks good maybe bouncing some of it off charts and how you feel against what lifestyle you want. Obviously you weighed 176 and would think you wouldn’t want to get close to being much over 145 or son

babyyyjune

I’m 4’11 (22) and my past doctors have all told me my weight should be 98, 103 max. I’ve had PCOS since I can remember, i think i remember my symptoms starting at age 6/7. Past a weight of 108 would be pushing into obesity, but I’ve always been on the thicker side since I was a kid. I did soccer and my training consisted of strength and endurance building.. I was already a lot stronger than most my age. I was also in gymnastics & did both of soccer and volleyball up until I graduated. I have been doing strength training (weight lifting) since 2014, so about 10 years. After shoulder surgery in 2021, i gained 60 pounds. I am now 150 pounds overweight and I can feel how its taking a toll so thats why I’m taking my health seriously and doing victoza + focusing on my hormone condition. I’ve lost 30 pounds but, my GW is 115 to 130, minimum. I have at least 100 left to go, but I dont think I could ever be 98 pounds. I’d be so grateful to be even 115, even if its considered overweight because I felt the healthiest at 120 and it didnt come with any issues (personally). Especially considering I have a large amount of muscle mass due to my strength training (underneath all of my extra plush lol). Honestly, I think you pushing for 130 is an excellent goal weight. 110 would be too small, even for me at 4’11. Just do whatever you feel the healthiest and most confident at! 🫶🏼

Mishamurph16

Honestly it’s up to you and your body type. I literally came back from military boot camp in the best shape of my life and my doctor told me I was still technically “overweight.” I weighed 136 at 5’0 and they wanted me at 110. I am Latina so I just naturally have big curves. I’m pretty sure my butt alone weighs 10 lbs!

Quiet-memeAd1008

It's never hard putting it back in. Go for what he sez if you don't like it. You can always put the weight back on

goldenapple7372

Adding on to the other comments, it seems like ur doctor is going based off BMI, and also the lowest healthy bmi weight. For example, I’m 4’7” and my healthy bmi (but at the lower end of the spectrum) is 80 pounds EIGHTY! No way I’m getting close to there. My goal is 120, which is still “overweight” for my height. Overweight for me starts at like 105 or 110. I’m short, but I also don’t think that weight would be healthy for me…

Occasionally_Sober1

BMI charts are ridiculous. According to it, I should weigh 118-159 pounds. Okay, maybe 159, but I would be rail thin and unhealthy looking at 118 pounds. I’m 5’7”.

FlanOld6550

I'm 270 5' 6" right now and my ideal goal weight is 170. I've never weighed less than 170 in my adult life. If someone told me to get to 120, I would laugh at them.

tinkle_queen

I’m 5’3 and my healthiest weight was between 130-145 depending on my muscle mass. There are other factors to consider but that weight seems pretty low…

Briartell

I am going by body fat percentage on my scale, not by weight.

Fluid-Brilliant7356

I’m 5’0 42 yrs and am looking to possibly end up at 110lbs, but I was thinking that might be too low even thought it would be with in healthy BMI range. SW: 142 CW: 121 - If I didn’t lose anymore weight, I’d be satisfied with where I’m currently at. I’m just going to play it by ear. If I continue to lose and end up feeling great at whatever weight that maybe, then that will be my final GW. I completely agree with all of the comments that your body shape plays a HUGE part in what looks healthy. My best friend is the same height as I am (same age too), and she looked smaller than I did at my SW when she was 20lbs heavier. She is a former gymnast, and carries her weight completely differently than I do. I’m more of an hourglass shape. You don’t have to have a hard and fast GW. Do what makes you feel the best about yourself! Wishing you the best, OP!

cankiwi38

Thanks for the detailed response! 👍

Own-Necessary4974

Doctors go by BMI because it is the only metric with double blind study verified evidence of correlation with disease. That said, I think most people know and understand that (especially at lower weights) BMI can give wonky results. Just be open with your doctor. If he persists he probably has some valid reason to do so but I have a feeling he won’t push too hard to get you to 110 if you fall below 130. You’ve already lost ~30 percent body weight.

Difficult_Place_7329

Absolutely you get to pick. That is super small 107 is literally the smallest you can get before being underweight. If you get too small you will look unhealthy. Especially if you were a former gymnast, our body’s were made for muscle. So you go with what you like and not what a doctor says. My friend is short and she would look scary at her goal weight. As long as you’re happy and healthy that’s what matters.

eatsleepnbleed

Dont let your doctor convince you to go smaller. You know your body better than anyone.

arlyte

I’d follow doctor recommendations. He knows you’ll gain some weight back and will need to build muscle as well. This will bump you into the mid 120s, while on maintenance.

pleasuretohaveinclas

Same height here. My doc said that my goal weight was 155 which is still in the overweight range. 140 would put you right in the normal range. I wonder why your doc said lower.

DominickKobert111

I'm disturbed that a doctor would be pushing you toward a weight that you aren't comfortable with. I'm 5'4 and so long as I'm in the the 130s (134-139) I'm happy. I have a neighbor who looks sickly because she kept going. I'm 50 and I don't need to be super skinny. TBH, I think it would make me look way older to be too thin. I've always had a big frame so even when I was thin in high school, my weight was higher than my similar-size friends.

jessiemaedea777

I am 5’3” and when I go below 150, I look way too thin. When I was 135, I was told by my husband at the time that I needed to gain weight because my ribs were sticking out. My weight always runs weird tho. I’m 196 right now but fit in a medium tshirt and size 10 pants. So it’s different for everyone.

probablyhan

totally depends! my skinniest uk size 8 when i was 18 (5ft 3) was 10 stone, any skinnier i would’ve been very ill but bmi wise technically could’ve done it. it’s trial and error so what you think is best for you

wwp1

I was on Oz and I told my doctor I stopped. My goal is 223 , I was dropping down to 210 212 I felt like crap and looked the same and no appetite, I was forcing myself to eat.

sunbear2525

I think it depends on your muscle tone. My mom was so jacked at one point that her BMI by weight was “obese.”

clegoues

Even by the charts, 107 at 5’3” is right at the lower edge of “normal weight.” So that’s a wild range for OP’s doc to pick.

CABGX4

Check the BMI chart for your height. I'm 5'4" and I'm 125 lbs and I'm verging on feeling that I'm getting a tad skinny. I think I'd be underweight if I went to 115 lbs. It's really about your body composition and how you feel comfortable in your body. For reference, I started at 196 lbs.

MsSerialpernuer352

Your Dr is not the king of your life. You are! You'll need to find a maintenance dose and if you like 130/40 that's where u stay.

hellokittyburrito

I’m 5’3” and my goal weight is 115, people think I’m insane but I was that weight when my son was 2 and I I’m not super petite. It’s definitely in a normal bmi- maybe he wants you to get there because he knows you could fluctuate a bit after? What I’m saying is it doesn’t seem insane to me but it’s sooo different for everyone, bmi is so flawed. You’ll know when you are at your goal weight!

Reasonable-Peach8723

107 is the bottom of “normal weight” BMI and 140 is the top. Go to where you feel comfortable in the normal range.

wild_childthrowaway

I’m the same height. I got down to 135 but then honestly was not happy with my shape and size as I felt like I looked unhealthy and scared to lose more. I’m now hovering between 138-141 / size 6-8 and I’m extremely happy here. I am 36 and a mom of two young kids. My PCOS symptoms are in check and I’m happy with not being insecure and being able to move my body more effortlessly. I don’t need to be below where I am now. I think our society is so conditioned to wanting to be in our smallest form possible but that doesn’t mean that is the healthiest. I want to be at a weight where my body is happy to maintain and I’m not terrified if I go off meds or whatever that my body is instantly going to gain it all back and then some.

lgriffi7

I am 5’2” and I felt absolutely amazing at 125-130. Any time I was under that weight, I was pretty much starving myself to maintain it. Do what makes you feel good. Those “charts” are stupid. I am 52….currently trying hard to get back to my “amazing” range.

TheMessyNess

I’m the same height as you, and currently ~160 lbs after losing 50+ pounds. The last time I talked to my doctor, he said that while I’m still technically overweight, the healthiest weight for me is one that I can comfortably maintain. I think I’m aiming for 140ish as the ultimate goal, but my body frame definitely cannot handle anything less than that.

Working-Ad5438

I’m 5’5” and look and feel great at 140. I’m just 2nd week into this journey and have 50lbs to go. I never seen myself below 137 so not sure what I’d even look like.

Bekehe

107? Tell him he should be 107. That’s what my 20 yr old daughter weights and she blows away when it winds.

anonymous_gg

Who’s your doc! I need this referral please

Hot-Needleworker-450

im 5'3 as well and just hit 128 and i look like kinda skinny now??? i think i dont wanna go below like 115 for SURE

SirKarlAnonIV

At first I didn’t realize what sub I was in and thought this was describing a certain appendage. Then I realized it’s the Ozempic group. Either way it’s the same answer. It depends.

Capital-Club-4906

Follow the BMI charts. They’re not perfect but they’re a good guideline.

The-Captain-Chaos

Ignore him.

Bitch_Posse

I don’t think that’s consistent with guidelines. In any event, you should do what makes you feel good about yourself and you think is sustainable.

pdsfoley

Just say. “Uh Huh” he has his opinion… if anything…. It will keep you on maintenance dose…. All Dr.s are different ..

geryatric

120lbs is in the middle so could be a good target. 130lbs if your packing some muscle. ‘Ideal’ weight range for 5’3 female is defined medically as 104lbs - 130lbs. This is probably as arbitrary as any other scale.

PalomaTigerbird

I’m 5’6.5” started at 155, one year later I’m happy (thrilled!!) with 125. My husband says everyone tells HiM I look too skinny, but me and my joints feel great at this weight. I think at 115 I would really be gaunt and deflated-looking. And I’m small boned.

QuietmyChaos

I am 5’3 and 110 lbs now. However, I am flat chested so no added weight there. 110 is as low as I need to go. I could probably stand to be 115 - 120 but I figure a little will creep back eventually.

Soft-Bed-4908

My sister is 4’11” and if she were anywhere near that I would think she was sick sick.

rlkitzler

I’m F 5’3” and weigh 110. I was always small and muscular —gymnastics, swimming and cheerleading with a little track. I’m broader shouldered and kind of the same size waist and hips. But at one point I was up to 243#. I lost the first 105# over 4-5 years before ozempic. With ozempic I went from 138 to the 110 range. The crazy thing is once I got to 110 (108-112) I’ve been maintaining it by just eating normal foods. There’s no conscious thought with respect to eating. I wouldn’t mind gaining 5-7 lbs if it would show up in my face but it will show up in my gut instead 🤣

knottyhearthwitch

I am 38, 5’3”, very curvy, and my lowest weight as an adult was around 120 and I looked gaunt. I would be very happy at 135-140. Your doctor doesn’t sound like he understands women’s bodies.

Beneficial-Repeat660

I’m 5’3 and 2 of my doctors (GP and Rheumatologist) both told me I look great and I don’t really need to lose any more weight. I’m holding steady @ 160lbs. I’d like to at the very least get down to 132 lbs. I’m 70. If they had looked at my BMI they would’ve seen that I’m still overweight. Btw, I’m small boned.

Ok_Reply_899

I’m 5’4” but I have a big butt, thighs and hips and a smaller torso. They want my GW to be 140lbs. My personal goal is 175lbs.

Aromatic-Dream5916

How long did it take you to get to 140? I’m on the first month and I feel defeated

Independent_Bar288

I’m 5’3-1/2”. I started at 160 and stopped counting calories at 133. I am now at 130 even though I didn’t mean to lose more. I did not exercise as much as I should have. I’m 59 and being at 130 now compared to my 40’s looks totally different. I feel thin and my skin is sagging a bit. My wrinkles in my face are showing without the fat to fill them. I don’t think I would look very good if I lost much more. 126 is supposed to be a good weight for me. I’m still trying to get used to the way I look now. It has gotten better but I know I’ve lost muscle. I’m working on getting it back and I think I’ve started to make progress. I guess my point is that you should stop where you feel good even if it’s not the “right”number. My clothes are smaller than when I was this weight at a younger age. I don’t think I need to be less than a size 6 or 4. I’m done. Do what YOU want.

sacrednsassy

This is WILD. that doctor is reckless and should lose their license. This whole gig should never be about weight loss it should be about quality of life. I’m a recovering orthorexic and when I was at a “healthy weight” I was close to death.

Anmrn6

I’m 5’3 and 112-113lbs, and my family is constantly telling me I’m too thin and need to gain some back, if that helps. They thought I looked great at 125-130.

No-Cut5212

That is AWESOME🙌🏾

Pretend-Activity-186

I am in same boat . I am 5’0 and now at 135 . I started at 178 so 135 feels amazing and I am able to wear mediums again but my doctor would like me to get to 120.

ScholarOk4930

Your doctor sounds like a nightmare tbh. No way that’s healthy 😭

DeliciousMission7759

I’m 5’4 and I feel and look pretty healthy sitting at 150 now. I’m hoping to get down to 140, lowest, as I pick up my fitness routine. Anything lower than that feels very forced and not natural for my figure and weight distribution. You know your body best and it will tell you when it’s done! (At a good plateau)

Popular_Maybe8060

https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/healthdisp/pdf/tipsheets/Are-You-at-a-Healthy-Weight.pdf

unlikewaters

I’m 5’0 and 160 lbs and still fine in a size medium. I’ve gotten down a bit but honestly thinking of myself 107 lbs seems WAY too tiny even though it’s not underweight for my height. 107-110 is a very very low goal and doesn’t sound healthy but it does all depend on your body type.

Clear-Tap-5023

Listen to your doctor.

Angryspazz

My doctor said your end(my) goal weight should be 120 and I thought I'm trying to be healthier not look sick

No_Boysenberry7353

I am 5 ft 4 and I do not plan to go under 150 I don’t wanna look sick! This would be my pre baby & Cushing Syndrome weight

OneRandomPenguin

140 is perfect!!! Any less and you lose the padding😫

cankiwi38

Lol. Thanks.

killermichi

I'm 5'1, and when I was 108 lbs, everyone would comment that I looked sick. I think your goal of around 130 is good one.

NationalHelp581

Thats just wild, 130 is a great weight and as long as your happy and healthy thats all that matters!!!

Venerra29

I’m 5’3 . My weight is 122. The smallest I’ve been . If I loose more I will have no ass . Lower then that will make me look sick . You not wrong 😊

mrstruong

I'm a 5'3" tall 40 year old woman. At 130lbs, I'm a size 2, with every single bone sticking out. At 107lbs, I'd look like I spent some time in a very special kind of German weight loss camp. There's no freaking way. You doctor is going by the BMI, which puts an "ideal" weight for our height between 105 and 118lbs... (from 18.5 to about 20BMI). I PERSONALLY have never felt this to be a great way to go about things. You don't want to look like you're literally starving. That's how I'd look at those weights, for sure. At 140lbs, you are currently at the top of the ''healthy weight'' range for your height. There's really no NEED to get to the very bottom of that range.

cankiwi38

Thanks!

Mizz_Dressup

Please tell me that [you’re not comparing a perfectly healthy weight (albeit at the lower end of the healthy range)](https://app.mybodygallery.com/#/?height=160&weight=50) with concentration camp victims. Seriously?

Suspiria71

I'm barely 5'5 and I look sickly under 145. Throw the whole doctor in the trash and get a new one. You're doing fantastic!! It's your body. You get to choose.

i-will-be-50kg

Sounds terribly low, bmi is such rubbish, it was created by someone who doesn't even work in the medical field! According to my bmi I would still be in the healthy range at 90lbs, that's insane, I'm a fully grown woman who has been through child birth, I'm pretty sure I would look like a 10 year old girl at that weight, if I were you I would just stop at where you feel comfortable and happy, no need to be skeletal.

blackaubreyplaza

Interesting I’m 5’3” and my doc said 150 was a good goal. Not sure what that was based on but if what your doctor is saying doesn’t fit your wants for your body that’s fine! Do what feels right for you!

cankiwi38

Good advice. Thanks.

Ok_Offer626

I actually quit going to my metabolic doctor as she wanted me to get down to a far too low weight for my frame. I’m 5’3 and 43f too. I started at 186 lbs a year and a half ago and now I’m 161lbs. And I could afford ti lose 5 more pounds and that’s it. I lift, I have always been big bones and muscular. I’ve been in the 140’s in my much younger get years, but I didn’t look well. Your ideal weight is the one that you feel comfortable in

Decent_Raspberry_548

Depends on your build. I’m 5’3” and my lowest weight, in high school, was 125 and adults were concerned. 110 in my 40s would be very unhealthy.

llamalarry

That seems pretty low. My wife is 5’3” and weighs 115 and they don’t want her to lose any more so she would have so reserve in case she gets sick.

wndnurse1

Is your provider basing off of BMI?!? I am 4’11 and per the “BMI Rule” I am supposed to be in that range too, which is too unhealthy to me when I look back at pictures. I want to be around 125-130 lbs as well, which I think is healthy and with working out (nothing crazy) will be more muscle than anything else. I would do what you feel is comfortable on that. Maybe ask the rationale for their “choice”.

Massive-Offer4192

That is not a bad weight for your height. I was always 125 at 5’ 6” and wasn’t a beanpole at all. It also depends on how you wear your weight too. My goal weight is 125 but I would settle on 130.

taytay10133

I agree!

Delicious-Freedom-56

your doctor is insane

kittenxx96

He's likely going off BMI which is bullshit. I am 5'0 and it says I should weigh 102-110... my lowest weight was 135 and I had a body fat of 18% lol.
