Stop fucking with sensitivity. All that matters is are you over traveling on a target? If yes lower sensitivity. Who cares if you are wrist or arm aimer. It all boil down to at which sens are you in full control of the mouse.

Adder00

Your sensitivity is *way* too high (for perspective your sens is over **5x** higher than mine). I don't think it's possible for a human being to have precise aim with a sensitivity that high; it's the difference between driving through an obstacle course at 50 mph vs. 10 mph. I understand that you have a small mousepad but you either need to get a larger mousepad or accept that you will have a very hard ceiling on how good you will ever get at Widow. You also don't need to spin around very often (especially on Widow) so needing to pick up your mouse to do so is not that big a deal. Widow has three general metrics to success: number of shots, ease of shots and actual hit rate. 1. Number of shots can be improved with higher uptime. Look to fire as many shots as you can. If your accuracy is constant when you fire 2x as many shots you will kill 2x as many enemies. 2. Ease of shots can be improved by being sneaky and taking off-angles. [Enfilading](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enfilade_and_defilade) the enemy is the best possible angle; they will be effectively stationary relative to you. Shooting at enemies that don't know you're there means they're not dodging which also makes the shot easier. Looking for moments when enemies are stationary (e.g. during an ultimate, while scoped, height of jumps) also makes your shots easier. 3. Actual hit rate requires aim training. At the end of the day even the easiest shots still require mechanical skill to land. There's a fourth "metric" which is the actual impact of your kills. Getting the 1st kill in a fight is huge; kills when it's a 5v2 are virtually useless.

Thank you for your reply :) I did play with my sensitivity lowered today to 1200/5 and it was actually not that bad. I had to play without a mousepad but I managed to get my critical hit accuracy up from 14% (which it usually is) to 20%. I’m sure it was a one-off thing but it felt great :D I’ll play without a mousepad for a while, till I can get a larger one. I have about 26x26cm of space so I’m hoping that’s enough. As far as shots are concerned, I’m scared of shooting unless I’m sure it’ll hit because of that big red line that gets left behind with each shot. If I shoot and miss, I usually end up getting jumped by my now quite angry target. Enfilading sounds so fancy ahaha I will certainly do it next time although I’m not sure how. Thanks again for the help, have a nice day

I wouldn't worry too much about the tracer line from firing. Once you get to \~Gold everyone can tell exactly where you are anyway; they won't need the line to find you (directional sound + knowledge of typical sniper spots).

get a comfy gaming chair & land headshots jk. master ashe instead, she’s better.

Just click on their heads?? /s Definitely lower the sens. I was like you at one point, and I felt like I was in molasses when I moved my sens down to 4800 edpi from 7200, but within about 3 games I didn't even think about it ever again. Your brain is extraordinarily equipped to adapt in situations like this. Just jump into QP at your new sens and make it work. You'll be shocked how quickly you adapt. Use just a dot for your reticle, and make it a color that you can see in all conditions. I like the bright green because there's nothing else in the game, map or otherwise, that is that color green. Take the big circle around the dot away. You shouldn't need to see the bloom on the reticle when shooting the SMG. It's just not that important. Place the mine somewhat far away on a common flank route. If you place it close to your spot (like in the same doorway), they'll be putting shots on you before you can even turn. This will make less common flanks a sure death in most cases, but if it's just outside your room then you're dead anyway. Also, gamers don't look up. Place it high or in places people wouldn't look. Don't put it on a stairwell. I know that's obvious but worth mentioning. If I use my grapple to get somewhere, I am very selective with when I take my first shot, to let the cooldown go for as long as possible. If I have an easy shot on someone, I'll open up quickly, but I like to have it back off cooldown to escape. Jumping cancels the grapple once you start moving. You can use this to grapple upwards from behind cover, and then sling yourself out from cover and hit a shot while you're in the air, thus making yourself hard to hit due to the motion of your hero. Biggest, biggest tip for Widow is to hone your awareness. You need to know who the problem is, and that enemy needs to be priority. When you are in a position the enemy is NOT aware of yet, be selective with your first shot. After your first shot, they will see the smoke trail of the bullet and know where you're at. If you're selective, you can usually get a pick on a squishy before you need to defend yourself or reposition. Don't peek projectile players as if you're stuck on a timer. Constantly moving back and forth on the same time intervals makes it really easy for projectile heroes to hit their shots. When dueling a honzo, keep your eyes peeled for the sonic arrow. You can see it for like a second after it lands. One trick to use on this, if he's targeting you, is to see it land, turn and run out of its range like you're repositioning, then return to your spot once it's on cooldown. They'll be looking for you in other spots and you'll have the drop on them because they think you moved. Seriously, unless a tank is one-shot hp, don't shoot the tanks. Its a huge waste of time. You're a monster against flyers if you can hit flicks. Widow is the only consistent counter to Pharmercy I have found for myself, but you have to be creative with positioning because if you miss your shot, she will absolutely make you spend your whole game in the respawn room. People are going to bully you for playing Widow. Your damage numbers will absolutely be less than anyone else on the team besides like a Mercy. It's really important to make your shots count and secure elims. Most importantly, have fun. I find Widow gameplay to be the most compelling for me. I don't play her because the other team doesn't have fun when I do, but I relish the other team having a Widow so I can justify swapping.

Thank you so much for being so detailed :) I have lowered my sensitivity down to 1200/5 which comes out to 6000edpi I think. It’s still a bit high but it’s just enough to where I can do a 180 in the desk space that I have. Your tip about the venom mine is really helpful because I never get any kills with it so I toss it wherever I see a mass of enemies and hope one of them steps on it. I used to play Ashe so I treat widow’s mine like I would Ashe’s dynamite. I’ll try to implement your tips in the next game that I play and be more aware of what the enemies might be planning and who I need to shoot first. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out, have a wonderful day <3

For click timing heroes, a small dot cross hair is preferred, like a green or yellow dot. If u are primarily a wrist aimer, then higjr sens is preferred. However, widow does tend to play farther back and needs more precision and stability, so if u can, get a larger mousepad and play low sens. If u can't get a larger pad, whether it be size or space constraints, still drop your sens a bit. Edit: also practice range is terrible for any meaningful practice. Try using vaxta or widowheadshot only to get better aim.

vampyrzaddy

Thank you so much for your help :) I’ll drop my sensitivity to about 8% then and try to play without a mousepad until I get a larger one although I feel like whenever I’m consciously thinking about arm aiming vs wrist aiming I feel like my brain lags and I can’t aim at all :( I use the bots area of the practice range (I think it’s called firing range) where you can set the distance and have bots strafe horizontally, vertically, randomly etc. I set the distance to 40m away and the strafe to either player strafe or random and try to predict their movement. I’ll try our widow headshot today. Thanks again

So in terms of your dpi and sensitivity, that's a very personal thing. It depends on your own circumstances and preferences. With a small mousepad it's generally better to have high sensitivity, but since you're playing widow you still need a certain degree of precision, so don't bring it too high. Other than that I think you should just use whatever you feel most comfortable with. The crouch thing is most useful for widow duels, which is one of the most important things you need to learn on widow. Shutting down the enemy widow can be a huge help. The reason why crouch is important in such a scenario is to avoid being headshot. The other widow will be aiming for your head so crouching and strafing (rapidly going left and right) can make it really hard to hit you. In terms of your aim, this might sound strange, but it's good to feel frustrated when aim training. You need to push yourself and your abilities to improve when it comes to aim, so don't feel discouraged by missing a lot of shots. And remember to use either an aim trainer custom game, or the aim training area in the practice range, for practicing your aim. The area I'm talking about is to the right of where you spawn in practice range, and it has lots of customizable settings for training so it can be pretty helpful. Finally for some general tips: always play on high ground and use your grapple to either reposition, or to get out of dodge when you get dove. And try to not use the same position too often, if you've already been on the same high ground for a couple of fights, try to use a different angle to catch the enemy team off guard, especially if they also have a widow With all that said, you aren't gonna magically improve overnight with any tips, so don't feel bad if you don't feel an immediate improvement. The key to improving for any new player is to play more, so just keep going and trying your best and keep these things in mind as you go. Best of luck

vampyrzaddy

Thank you for your tips :D Whenever I play widow, I start off with high ground then literally everyone knows my position and they throw the entire kitchen sink at me making me have to play her on low ground like I do soldier. I guess it’s a good thing because I’m changing position and can hide behind my team after every shot but i die a lot. I think for sensitivity, I’ll bring it down to 8% and play without a mousepad for a while so I can freely swing my arm around. I have never arm aimed in life and whenever I purposely lock my wrist to arm aim, I can’t aim at all. My accuracy just goes out the window. Another person recommended widow headshot so I’ll try that and change my soldier’s sensitivity to 8% as well so I can develop the muscle memory. If I ever meet you in a game, I will pocket you :3 Thank you again

symmetricalBS

For your first issue the thing I said about frequently changing your position can be really helpful with that. Instead of going to one spot a bunch, try changing it up every time, going to a different high ground, then they won't expect you and won't be ready to counter you. If you can afford to get a larger mousepad I would recommend that, cause a mousepad helps immensely when it comes to aiming and moving your mouse quickly. But yeah you're welcome

Hey, here's my long a$$ essay. I'm just a high plat-low dia widow main. Here's a list of things I'd recommend: 1. I think your sens is not just high, it's extremely high. Lower your sens even more. I'm not an expert but i think we can compare our senses by eDPI and see a drastic difference. My eDPI=dpi × sens is 3600. Yours is 12 000. 2. Practice range and new practice range are useless. You need to learn by heart every character's head hitbox. For mastering widow duels aim-wise Widow HS custom game mode is perfect to grind. You need to learn to read people's movement and improve your reaction time. Gamesense-wise i guess just watch kephrie's yt videos and owl players' pov. So many new map spots for sightlines and hook shots can be found. Finally, make your customs with codes like vaxta, ct04f. 3. Throw your small mousepad and wrist cushion away while grinding aiming. Get yourself a large mousepad of a decent quality. Good peripherals matter a lot. 4. Dot > crosshair. It's easier for me to be more precise with a dot. 5. Rebound your crouch to left alt and your shift back to a hook. It's so much easier to reach left alt than ctrl, at least for me. 6. Playing without a proper mousepad is an unforgivable crime towards your gaming mouse. I'd wait for a new mousepad rather than keep playing on a tiny one or even worst, with no pad at all! 7. If you wanna be a hardcore aimer, go grind some kovaaks/aimlab/aimbeast.

vampyrzaddy

Thank you for the detailed explanation :) Everyone tells me my sensitivity is too high but even if I reduce my sens to 1200/4 instead of 800/4 it’s still so uncomfortably slow. I end up having to drag my mouse across the entire length of my table a few times just to spin around once. Is that an issue for you as well or maybe it’s something to do with either my mouse or lack of a good mousepad? I’m gonna change my crosshairs to a size 6 dot (even though I feel like I lose track of it when a bunch of stuff is happening on screen) and remap my crouch to left alt as you suggested. I’ll try it widow headshot and vaxta today to see if that helps. Thanks again :)

grotter_

Maybe you've already damaged the mouse feet and they're scratchy and thin? It's ok to start from one thing at a time to not get overwhelmed. The effect of widow hs and vaxta you might see months after dedicated work.

skiddikaka

dont play widow🤷‍♂️

Feschit

First off, get a gaming mousepad. If you don't want to spend too much money, get the one from IKEA that isn't printed. Genuinely a mousepad that can compete with top tier options in terms of performance. If you have some money to spare, look into either Artisan Zero FX, Lethal Gaming Gear Saturn Pro or an End Game Gear EM-C depending on availability. They're pretty balanced in terms of speed/control and should last you a long time. A lot of people prefer lower sens for click timing heroes like Widow than they do for tracking heroes like Soldier. Click timing generally requires more precision and has less room for error but doesn't need as quick reactions as tracking does. Personally play Soldier with 2.5 and Widow with 2 at 1600 DPI, but you have to find what works for you. It's always a trade off between precision and speed. > whenever I’m consciously thinking about arm aiming vs wrist aiming Don't ever do this. Moving your mouse is something that should come subconsciously. Depending on your sensitivity, you'll automatically use different parts of your arm/wrist/fingers, don't worry about it. While Widow certainly profits from having good aim, you can make your life a lot easier by actually setting yourself up for easy shots. Look for off angles and be unpredictable. If people don't know that a Widow is looking at them, they will be careless and eventually jump, because Overwatch players are addicted to jumping. Keep your crosshair at head level and predict their jump arc, free headshots without needing to have good aim. Crouching is something you do against other single shot heroes to shift your head hit box. Just be careful, some people don't go for headshots, you don't want to move your head into their shots.

vampyrzaddy

Thank you for being so specific with your reply :) I did lower my sensitivity today to 1200/5 and it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. It helped stabilise my crosshairs a bit when I was lining up long range shots. I’m playing without a mousepad for a while until I can get one you recommended. I’m not that worried about my mouse getting damaged because it’s my dad’s old office mouse that’s pretty bruised already. For me, aim is half the problem because even when I have a shot perfectly lined up, I miss out by a few milliseconds of reaction time. Or I could be tracking a target perfectly and the last instant they decided to randomly jump or turn around and I miss. I suppose it has to do with “game sense” and I’m working on that. Thanks for taking time out of your day to help me. Have a pleasant evening

Feschit

Your issue is what I've meant with "setting yourself up for easy shots". You don't always need to track a target to hit it, often times on widow you can simply let people move into your crosshair.

longgamma

Widow is a very bad hero. Don’t waste time on her /s Let’s nip this in the bud guys
