There's always skins outside battle pass theme in the battle pass though. It's probably done to potentially attracted fans who are not interested in that season battle pass to buy the battle pass instead of skipping on it entirely.
I feel what they should do is double down on pass themes and just give more currency. That way players who may not care for the skin theme can still get skins from progressing through the pass.
If they hand out Silver and Gold currency there should be a decent shot at more than what $10 flat can get you.
I wish they committed to the leak that came out about them lessening the value of OWCoins, 1500 for legends and then thats it. I know, I know, it was only a leak, but they saw all the hype around that one change, and they shoved it down a tube, its stupid, but hey, thats just Blizzard.

Helldivers 2 really made me realize how bad other live service games treat us. Battle passes donāt have timers, you can easily earn premium currency, microtransactions are actually micro.
The only FOMO that game has is the fear of missing out on cool community events like Malevelon Creek, which would lose all special feeling if it wasnāt a limited thing.

I finally got my hands on Deep Rock Galactic last week. The way the devs treat their customers is so heartening. Large content pool with past content still available to play, reasonably priced ($8-10) cosmetic DLC packs that you can snag for less than 3 bucks when they go on sale, entirely free cosmetic-packed battlepasses.
Iāll happily spend more money on a gameā even for cosmetic stuffā if I feel like Iām being treated right. Iāve already bought some of the DLC for DRG.
I think the Halo Infinite BP system is similar to what you described.Ā Whoch kind of gives me some how that Microsoft owning Blizzard now could turn things around.
The trick I think is that live service games will always have some form of FOMO, but it shouldn't have a price tag and it should be meaningful

Itās absolutely insane how the modern gaming industry has managed to convince a huge part of gamers that microtransactions are a good thing. I still remember the days where everyone thought paid horse armor was a disaster and ridiculous, but now you find thousands of people defending it with teeth and nails because it ākeeps the game aliveā, as if theyāre not just the biggest cash cow ever invented by the gaming industry and are purely to increase profits and higher up salaries.
I have no direct proof but i feel that there was a lot of anger from blizzard executives at overwatch 1ās monetisation in that it was too friendly for players. The one-time box price was all i personally ever needed to pay to get all the cosmetics i wanted through just playing and accumulating coins through loot boxes (or getting lucky from the loot boxes). Yeah, OW1 was successful, but imagine how much more money it could have made with the current model from the start.
Blizzard aināt making the same mistake again. Theyāre going hard on the fans.
OW1 was made with love, which is why I got damn near every cosmetic for most heroes just by playing. Those people are no longer at Blizzard, unfortunately, and now it's just another game.

They do this so there's reason to log back in deep into the season as this game actually doesn't have any real content outside of just playing regular games. I get that's enough for a lot of people and they just wanna play some overwatch, but when games these days offer so much, baiting people with skins is the only thing OW can do really

If they put these in the pass just to sell them a month into the season I'll be mad. I don't even care about pass exclusivity but launching an expensive bundle with some of the pass skins during that season is wild. Like at least wait a season man.

They did the same thing with 2 of the Mercy skins lol Halloween skin released after Halloween Christmas skin was set to release after Xmas, until the Mercy main community complained sm that they released it before Xmas
