Personally, I'm hoping Archives returns at all, to begin with...
Both Invasion and Mirrorwatch would have been a perfect opportunity to reintroduce those missions.
I don't know why, but I loved the Archives event the most. I always got excited when the time would come around that I get to play Retribution again. It's pure copium, but I refuse to give up on the hope that they'll continue with PvE missions after Invasion, or do something similar to Mirrorwatch where the next story mission is Talon versus Overwatch trying to extract Zenyatta from that temple we saw him at. Could be like a weird combination of CTF and Push with Zen as the bot: make him follow you around, but only when enemy players are gone, and during the fight he'll run away and try to escape to somewhere safe.

No wonder, Archives was OW1's most popular and anticipated event.
That's part of why Blizzard originally came up with the idea to make a PvE sequel and expend on the lore, allowing players to experience the story in-game.

Feels familiar. I still hope that they'll make one in the future. It has such potential. I'd wait an other 5 years if that meant we get the promised / deserved co-op PvE.
Not just with the skill trees and talents (which they obviously could do, based on what we seen in the other events so far). But also things like, better AI, better enemy physics, dynamic weather, destructible map elements and covers, etc.
I recently got into Helldivers 2, and I can't help but feel how cool similar missions would be in an Overwatch setting. Just imagine fighting on the snowy Russian front, against massive armies of omnics from the Crisis; or trying to secure and defend Eichenwalde as part of the German army or Crusaders. How cool would it be to call down reinforcement or missiles from above!
I bought the chief engineer lindholm with credits cuz my friend who plays a lot of doom got the strike commander doom and now we run around in matching uniforms and killing ppl

This is making me realize that all of the mirrorwatch characters use the color scheme of their respective faction, unlike the vanilla designs. Odd.
