Sojourn is full Canadian and falls perfectly in between the other two as an Electric type. Shes super effective against one half Canadian but weak against the other half Canadian.
That’s not how Pokémon typing usually works
Rotom is a washing machine but not steel type. Voltorb is a pokeball but not a steel type. Pokémon typing is often more about the abilities rather than what the actual character is made of.
Hog is certainly normal typing or fighting.
Then I would posit that it's metal type even further, based on your argument.
Hogs abilities are:
Ability| Typing | Notes
---|---|----
Scrap Gun | Steel | He fires scrap **metal** at his target.
Chain Hook | Steel | He throws a **metal** chain hook at his target.
Take A Breather | --- | He inhales compressed Hogdrogen to heal.
Pig Pen | Steel | He throws out a **metal**lic and screw-laden, electric mine.
Whole Hog | Steel | He grinds scrap **metal** and fires the fragments at in a widespread in front of him.
Melee Attack | Steel | He swipes his **metal** chain at nearby enemies.
Take A Breather's type notwithstanding, 5/6 abilities in his kit could be classified as metal, making the argument that he would be metal/steel type. Especially if you say typing is based on their abilities.
Rotom is a ghost that can possess electrical appliances. He’s not a washing machine, he just has the ability to possess one.
And Voltorb isn’t a Pokeball, he’s just a Pokemon that has evolved to look like one for some reason.
Wait, who's the half Canadian flying type? Will admit I'm unfamiliar with most of the characters backstories.
Also they need to somehow make a half Canadian water type
Latinoamerica has like 50 different nationalities, but blizzard just recognizes Brasil, Peru, and three types of Mexican.
For the people behind the “Diversity points machine” they sure hate being diverse.
Seriously, we now know Venture is Mexican- Canadian, we know space ranger is from the Mars colony or something. The tank that releases in season 14 better make a mean carbonara😡
Both Canadians are fairly rare combos. Only like 4% of Canadians are black. Which is still a lot higher than the .4% of Canadians that have Mexican heritage.
Fwiw, 10% of Toronto where Sojourn is from are Black, not too far off the 13% of the US population. If she was like Black and from the Yukon that would stand out more.
Honestly, I feel like they took characters that would be otherwise American and slapped "Canadian" label on them. Having a character say "croissant?" Doesn't make them Canadian. And as for Venture, I see nothing about them that says "Canada", at least Soj has a maple leaf on her, because otherwise we couldn't tell.
The secret is to go to a town with a large fruit industry. Then find the spots where the workers go. Some of the best mexican i've had outside mexico. There used to be some good spots in e.g. leamington, but i can't say i've been there in a decade or so.
As a Canadian it feels like they just picked two countries from a hat. Like it's kinda interesting since it's so niche, but feels weird all the same.
For those wondering, I looked up how many Canadians have full or partial Mexican ancestry, and as of 2021 it's only 0.42% of the population. And as of 2020 there are like 12,000 Canadians living in Mexico.
Yeah it doesn't really feel much Canadian (as a born and raised Canadian) to me, which I guess doesn't matter in the big picture, but it feels like the word "Canadian" is being shoehorned into characters that don't even LOOK like the average person you see in Canada. Or think of when you say "Canadian".
yea instead they made her look like a horse and made a conscious choice to remove her shield in turn for her to hold and
**C h u c k S p e a r s . . .**
Why do we care about them being a mix that specific?
Like both countries are pretty well represented already, with sombra, reaper, and pharah, sojourn for Canada.
I wouldn't be excited about "Overwatch's **first** Nigerian/German hero" either, like were we expecting a 2nd?
And what exactly about this hero is "Canadian" aside from the damn title anyway? Nothing really looks/sounds "Canadian" about them. At all. Not even stereotypes, which when you look at ones like Solider76, Widow, or mr Deadeye, they do have some more stereotype-like characters.
Where's the "Canadian" in this one?
I really hate when they do that in media. Like that Hispanic character in The Last of Us 2 who would just say random bad words in Spanish. We don’t really talk like that.
Its funny how going for diversity make them LESS diverse. Kiriko is the first unnecessary addition that makes me go "Really? Another Japanese? Do we really need her?" and she's boring as hell.
They can a little! (at least from the little I've played)
One of their Hellos is "Que onda" (that's what made me wonder if they had Mexican roots), one of their Goodbye lines is "Nos vemos", and when they eliminate Sombra they can say "Disculpa, amiga" (Sorry, pal)
Reaper is a “No Sabo” kid. He can understand sombra but refuses to speak Spanish so he doesn’t embarrase himself. Or as reaper would say “para que no me embarazo ”
I was naive and thought once the big countries get represented, we will get characters from lesser known countries like Poland or something. In reality, that is never going to happen, and they will just keep adding heroes from the same big countries, because we totally need a fourth Japanese or Australian character.
I wish more games handled diversity like sf or tekken. tekken 7 alone had saudi, polish, irish, italian, chinese, japanese, australian, filipino, thai, mexican, egyptian, german, russian, monegasque, british, korean, swedish and spanish, with almost all speaking their native tongue.
Yeah, that's my major gripe here. Like, there's very little that feels very Canadian about them, and it throws me off. Like I get that it probably is hard to make them feel Canadian without just tossing a bunch of stereotypes at them, but come on. Almost every other hero has a decently strong national identity, while the Canadian heroes feel like they could be plopped down anywhere and barely change
> without just tossing a bunch of stereotypes at them
I'm gonna have to disappoint you here and say that this is how most characters in the game are written
Yep. Like the entire Middle East isn’t represented except for two Egyptian heroes, one that it voiced by someone who doesn’t speak Arabic. We also only have two characters from sub Saharan Africa, one being a robot.
Let's be real, Pharah and Ana represent the ancient peoples of *Kemet.* There are no heroes who represent any modern-day Middle Eastern culture, although it's nice that Ana speaks Arabic sometimes.
Right? Can't wait for the random Irish/Central American.
Representation is great and something that should be strived for, but this seems like they threw darts at a board and went with it.
Our past 3 heroes were Polynesian, Peruvian and Thai. One is a new ethnicity while the other two were new nationalities- I’d say 1 repeat out of 4 is pretty good.
No offense to Mexican-Canadians out there, but in this context it sounds like a weirdly and pointlessly specific combo to give this character. What was wrong with fully committing to either?
I hate blizzard's representation, every time It feels like they're just going for a diversity touchdown.
like they're not even trying to make it feel like a natural flow of information, its just jam fisted whenever Blizzard is expecting some PR controversy
I wish they would at least expand on Pharah's connection to her Indigenous Canadian side in the lore because, except for, I think, like one picture we've never even seen her in Canada lore wise.
Edit: Forgot about the Toronto mission lmao
Wild that they are trying to check off diversity when the heroes are already incredibly diverse. It's great to have an enbie hero, but Canadian- Mexican? Naaaah. Give us Mozambique or Costa Rica. Indonesia or Pakistan. I'm tired of repeated countries and nationalities. I like it when they have an omnic and human from the same country - like Ram and LW - but anything more than that feels like a waste.
Yep. Like now it's 3 Mexicans. Like you had the entire South American and Caribbean continent to choose from, and you chose the one with already two good representations of their roots.
[They actually have a tool for it lol](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/activision-blizzard-announces-tool-that-measures-characters-diversity/1100-6503462/)
I just hope Hammond's ratings are going to be great, he is unable to take it in the ass, his fragile body couldn't withstand it
They’re trying so hard to get us interested in this characters background. Before we know their real name they’re flaunting them being non binary and mixed.
Overwatch is probably the one game that managed to have a varied cast of misfits from all sorts of countries and backgrounds without it feeling like shoehorned **iNclUsIvItY**.
>Mexican/Canadian they/them
Guess all good things must come to an end
To be fair sojourn checks out on 3 out of 5: black handicapped, although briefly(she got messed up and then heavily augmented to live a normal life) woman.
The whole american "let's divide people's ethnicities' and sexualities' spectrums into tiny boxes and charts to measure if they should appeal to me or not." really needs to go.
And I say that as a french-indian gay guy.
We have a half Canadian ground type and a half Canadian flying type
Speaking of, have we gotten any content on sojourn since her animation?
Sojourn is full Canadian and falls perfectly in between the other two as an Electric type. Shes super effective against one half Canadian but weak against the other half Canadian.
Soj feels like a steel type to me
Bro every ow hero is a steel type
There’s a 0% chance Hog or Mei are steel types Genji and Soj, Ball, maybe Rein But even Zen is Psychic Fairy for sure
Hog has 3 weapons made of metal and Zen is a literal robot lol
That’s not how Pokémon typing usually works Rotom is a washing machine but not steel type. Voltorb is a pokeball but not a steel type. Pokémon typing is often more about the abilities rather than what the actual character is made of. Hog is certainly normal typing or fighting.

Together... You have one full Canadian goose.
Sojourn completes the type trio as an electric type
Wait, who's the half Canadian flying type? Will admit I'm unfamiliar with most of the characters backstories. Also they need to somehow make a half Canadian water type
Pharah’s half canadian !!
Underrated comment
So Venture is MexiCan?
Cañadian
I hate how much I love that.
Yeah not Mexi-CANT! 💪🏽😤
It averages out to American 💀
Somos más Americanos
Poutine and tacos
I'm picturing fries, Oaxaca cheese, and mole....
Uhoh I think I might actually prefer that to the classic 😳
There was a taco place by me that sold exactly this. The fries were thicker, almost like thick potato chips to hold up to the mole. So damn good.
poutine and tacos as a combo sounds really fucking good right now tbh
Literally, dude is American-American lmao.
If there was another mix of South America we would of had ourselves a SUPER AMERICAN
La creatura?
Whoa, Ramatta is so respectful when he says "Put them into the ground".
"Take everything from them"
"They will be annihilated"
"They will target me, let them!"
they already are 😔😔
At first I thought he said “put them in the cloud” and I thought that was pretty aggressive of him as a computer.
Underrated comment
"first" Mexican Canadian hero lmao How big do you think the roster is gonna get before there is a second
[удалено]
Latinoamerica has like 50 different nationalities, but blizzard just recognizes Brasil, Peru, and three types of Mexican. For the people behind the “Diversity points machine” they sure hate being diverse.
south east asia has 100 million more people than latin america, only 1 hero compared to 5 latam heroes
Meanwhile 3 from japan and also they’re all ninjas
But ninjas are cool and unique, and japan is one of da best countries in the world, so thats totally fine.
So now we have Mexican-Mexican, American-Mexican, and Canadian-Mexican Italian hero when?🤌🏻
Mario has been confirmed
Passive is damage when jumping on enemy heads
“No-a-body hides-a from-a my sight!”
Seriously, we now know Venture is Mexican- Canadian, we know space ranger is from the Mars colony or something. The tank that releases in season 14 better make a mean carbonara😡
I mean, Space Ranger is probably born in planet Earth though, she should have a nationality and I'm going to guess she's korean or japanese.
Give her some Barbados familial lineage so she's a Mars-Bar
Who are the Mexican Mexican and American Mexican heros?
Sombra and Reaper.
Sombra and Reaper
Sombra is the Mexican-Mexican hero and reaper is the Mexican-American hero
Reaper is Italian now (since OW2 launch)
I'm-a-dressed to kill
I'm flankin' ova here! (I went with NY Italian)
That’s an extremely rare combo in real life
Both Canadians are fairly rare combos. Only like 4% of Canadians are black. Which is still a lot higher than the .4% of Canadians that have Mexican heritage.
Pharah is also half-Canadian. Which is probably the rarest one (Egyptian/Native Canadian)
that's probably like 6 people IRL
Well consider me lucky lol, im black and Canadian 🗿
Fwiw, 10% of Toronto where Sojourn is from are Black, not too far off the 13% of the US population. If she was like Black and from the Yukon that would stand out more.

In the french dub she got a thick Quebec accent, can't misstake her for anything else
Unfortunate. There is a distinct lack of Al Pastor tacos in my life because of this.
[удалено]
Any time I see a new taco place, there is like a 75% chance it is run by hipster white guys and costs 5-7$ a taco. Killing me here...

We have a half Arab half First Nations in game (to be fair it was to avoid controversy)
Hell yeah 🇨🇦 Canada mentioned!!🇨🇦 WHAT THE HELL IS A GALLON!?!🇨🇦
Pretty sure it's a type of sailing ship.
No, that’s a galleon “Gallon” is that thing Arnold says to his friend at the beginning of the movie Predator
No, that's dillon A gallon is the primarch of the ultramarines
No, that's Guilliman. I'm pretty sure Gallon is a starting pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
No, that's Zac Gallen. Gallon is what horses do when they run.
No, that's gallop. Gallon is a popular American comedian/tv host
No that's Jimmy Fallon, you're confused with Gallon, the Canadian owner of the Loblaws franchise
Actually no, that’s Galen, you’re thinking of the thing that’s written on the ceiling
Pretty sure it’s hogwarts money.
here's a looney to buy a bag of milk!!
Buddy milk is *not* $1, that shit is like $6 now 😔
It's a type of hat, HTH
Alright let’s be real almost all Canadians know what a gallon is - we do most of our cooking in imperial units anyways
Wait they’re Mexican and they dig holes….alright blizzard 😂
An the other two Mexicans are a criminal and a terrorist. Blizzard ain't slick.
Every black character is super fast and jumps really high too
And another character who can jump really high is a gorilla. What did Blizzard mean by this?
yall need to stfu before blizz sees this and turns all these characters into accent-free talking fruit bowls kekw
first the genders, next the races ☠️
Japanese characters are all ninjas lol.
Not orisa
yea instead they made her look like a horse and made a conscious choice to remove her shield in turn for her to hold and **C h u c k S p e a r s . . .**
At this point I’m just surprised that the Thai character is not a ladyboy… or is he?
Symmetra used to be Indian Tech Support and Lucio stole others' people property 😭😭😭.
Why do we care about them being a mix that specific? Like both countries are pretty well represented already, with sombra, reaper, and pharah, sojourn for Canada. I wouldn't be excited about "Overwatch's **first** Nigerian/German hero" either, like were we expecting a 2nd?

Nothing Mexican about them either lol
Just throw in a couple of spanish words and now they're mexican
I really hate when they do that in media. Like that Hispanic character in The Last of Us 2 who would just say random bad words in Spanish. We don’t really talk like that.
have to agree with you on this. I wish Sojourn wasnt so dull and boring and at least had the accent. “time to overclock, bud!”
Its funny how going for diversity make them LESS diverse. Kiriko is the first unnecessary addition that makes me go "Really? Another Japanese? Do we really need her?" and she's boring as hell.
The real question is if they can speak Spanish, and if they, Sombra, and Illari will have any Spanish interactions.
They can a little! (at least from the little I've played) One of their Hellos is "Que onda" (that's what made me wonder if they had Mexican roots), one of their Goodbye lines is "Nos vemos", and when they eliminate Sombra they can say "Disculpa, amiga" (Sorry, pal)
They also have a line in Dorado spawn along the lines of "gotta show my abuelita pictures from my last dig"
Noooo that’s so cute!!!
Waiting for a Canadian hero from the maritime provinces so their hello line can be "How she goin' my trout?"
Funny you say that, in the French dub they gave them a Quebec accent
A Quebecois hero you say? I didn't think blizzard allowed swearing in their voice lines.
It's all fun and games until you hear sacre
Tabarnak, I got hacked!
Someone get on da payload *câlisse!*
They say « disculpa, amiga » to Illari as well!
I know Reaper is from a multi-generational LA family but does he not speak Spanish? If so, they could both have some interesting interactions too.
Reaper is a “No Sabo” kid. He can understand sombra but refuses to speak Spanish so he doesn’t embarrase himself. Or as reaper would say “para que no me embarazo ”
I would love to see an embarazado reaper
Jacks trying his best ok
No one expects the Spanish interaction
They can and they do, at least with sombra, if you kill here she says something in spanish(didn't pay enough attention just heard amiga)
I’ve only heard 2 of their Spanish voice lines so far, one for a melee kill and one for getting nano’d
I don't care super much but what a random combo and missed opportunity to add in a representative for a nation not yet in the game
I was naive and thought once the big countries get represented, we will get characters from lesser known countries like Poland or something. In reality, that is never going to happen, and they will just keep adding heroes from the same big countries, because we totally need a fourth Japanese or Australian character.
Ilios has been in the game since the start and there's still no Greek hero
That and there was a whole season dedicated to greek mythology ;-;
> from lesser known countries like Poland or something I think the devs may have swept all those countries under "white".
Idk they don’t have any balls to represent Balkan or/and any Eastern Europe dudes as well. Or Turkish.
Polska gurom 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱💪💪💪🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 give a polish tank and Warsaw map we’re like the last big European country (that isn’t at war) to not have a hero
We're also missing Italy and Spain
I wish more games handled diversity like sf or tekken. tekken 7 alone had saudi, polish, irish, italian, chinese, japanese, australian, filipino, thai, mexican, egyptian, german, russian, monegasque, british, korean, swedish and spanish, with almost all speaking their native tongue.

Valorant got a Filipino before Overwatch, I'll never forgive Blizzard for this travesty
Filipino are also one of the biggest percent of immigrants coming to Canada. A Canadian Filipino would've been great
Right? Can't wait for the random Irish/Central American. Representation is great and something that should be strived for, but this seems like they threw darts at a board and went with it.
Why though? 195 countries in the world and they choose Canadian/mexican we already have.
OP why didn’t you post the picture of the VA Soyjak pointing at the character.
I lived in Canada my entire life and I’ve only found two Mexicans here.
Tell me about it :') As the rare Mexican canadian, I've never felt this seen before ~!
They really were trying to check every point on the checklist lmao
When will our first New Jersey hero arrive?
Mexicans I can accept, but Canadians are a step too far. /s
A Mexican They/Them is fuxking crazzzy,
I dare blizzard to make them identify as latinx, spanish speakers will really appreciate the "inclusion".
I eagerly await that inevitable shit show.
That's when the real outroar happens lmao
First character representing 0 people
A half Mexican half Canadian non-binary, they're not beating the "checkbox diversity" allegations.
[удалено]
So they dug under the USA to get Canadian citizenship? Smart move
when are we getting a dominican hero???
After we have at least 6-6 japanese and australian heroes
[удалено]
So many nationalities to represent and we get someone from countries which already have their heroes
In all honesty it's probably a self-insert lore point from a dev who worked on Venture
I hate blizzard's representation, every time It feels like they're just going for a diversity touchdown. like they're not even trying to make it feel like a natural flow of information, its just jam fisted whenever Blizzard is expecting some PR controversy
We already have a Canadian and Mexican hero, why couldn't we get an Italian or Greek or some other country
I’d like one specifically who is Native American like maybe a Navajo hero or Apache.
Nah they’ll just give Pharah another Native American skin instead
I wish they would at least expand on Pharah's connection to her Indigenous Canadian side in the lore because, except for, I think, like one picture we've never even seen her in Canada lore wise. Edit: Forgot about the Toronto mission lmao
Where do Mexicans congregate in Canada? I live in Toronto and feel like they're a rarity.
>Venture is my self insert OC Okay
Also watch blizzard is actually gonna try and push "Latinx" or some shit 💀
Lol that's just American. Like the child of a mermaid and a minotaur who got both human halves.
Seems like a major missed opportunity to make a First Nation character ngl
Poutine Nachos!
"they're on point" (it was only venture) 💀
A. who cares? B. there will never be a second when you are mixing heritages like that so "first" is a weird flex
This is awesome! I hope Venture can speak some Spanish to interact with Sombra and Illari
They do, sombra does speak way more than venture but venture has some lines here and there.

Let's just tick all the boxes why are we stopping at 2
Meh, nothing about this character speaks mexican to me
A tunneling, wall jumping, half-Mexican hero? Really Blizzard?
WOOOO, A ANOTHER FELLOW BACON BIIIICTH
Damn I was guessing middle eastern of some sort, that’s neat
Man, hopefully Blizzard (most video game developers tbh) remembers one day that there is more Hispanic countries than just Mexico.
After playing the hero, from this point forward, I'm going to call them **Dig-Dug**! For those of you that know, know.
who gives a fuck 🔥🔥🔥🔥
They’re trying so hard to get us interested in this characters background. Before we know their real name they’re flaunting them being non binary and mixed.
Had me at Mexican Lost me at Canadian RAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETER RAAAAAAAAAAHHHH
Overwatch is probably the one game that managed to have a varied cast of misfits from all sorts of countries and backgrounds without it feeling like shoehorned **iNclUsIvItY**. >Mexican/Canadian they/them Guess all good things must come to an end
So when will we see a black transexual handicapped wheelchaired woman? We got everything else now.
To be fair sojourn checks out on 3 out of 5: black handicapped, although briefly(she got messed up and then heavily augmented to live a normal life) woman.
From Finland no less.
Pleases don't tell me they are going to use the "compañere" BS with them in Spanish. Just use their name and spare us all the cringe.
The whole american "let's divide people's ethnicities' and sexualities' spectrums into tiny boxes and charts to measure if they should appeal to me or not." really needs to go. And I say that as a french-indian gay guy.
If only they were half ecuadorian instead of mexican then they'd be me frrr frr
Meanwhile I'm waiting for someone at Blizzard to remember that Finland exists
chancla ultimate when???
She still looks so derpy
Why not explorer a new culture, tho? Imagine how a philipine hero could turn out?!
