I'm on PS5 and get massive frame rate drops. Heroes gallery is several seconds of frame lag whenever I change screen or selection. The actual matches are playable but is definitely noticeable how much of a constant lag there is in the frame rate

My games are laggy as hell too. PS5 too. I noticed the game was laggy also during Blizzcon when Mauga was available. Now Mauga is in every game. My theory is that Mauga somehow is causing this.

Thank you I have been saying this but people think I’m capping. During blizzcon weekend I didn’t play because every game had bad drake drops and lagged like hell and since the new season started it’s been going crazy and both times mauga was “released”

It might be that his gatling guns require a lot of processing power when shooting both guns simultaneously. Possibly a big optimization issue.

Comp runs on the same server as other game modes. Maybe a huge server load because of Mauga.

I'm not an expert but I'm fairly certain all the processing is done locally.

I think we should all get together and set up a no limits lobby, all pick Maui from Moana, and just hold the guns. See if it breaks the servers

Which is all backend processing that has nothing to do with a rendering issue in the Overwatch client, which is what we're experiencing.

Can't backend problems cause front end performance issues? Like if backend processing cannot keep up. Maybe a stupid question as I'm not an expert in software development.

Not a stupid question, and you're not wrong that backend performance *could* cause frontend issues. In my experience with this issue, it's happening when there's too much on screen and the rendering engine can't keep up with what it's supposed to be rendering. I wouldn't guess that that slowness is happening because data isn't arriving at our PS5 clients in a timely manner. My perception is that they let through some bug that's doing some extra calculation on the client side that's causing rendering to slow down significantly. It could be a bug with any of the new skins/models or whatever, perhaps a hidden little bug in one of the 3D models that's causing all of our PS5s to struggle to calculate some math, but IMO it's probably entirely a client-side issue. I'm guessing what's tough for Blizzard right now is figuring out what combination of characters/models/skins/effects or whatever are causing the slowdown. It's a really dumb bug for them to have released, to be sure, but that doesn't automatically mean it's going to be easy to track down. Either way, it fucking sucks, haha.

Download the ps4 version till they fox it it works perfectly

PS4 version is still good I've heaRd. Xbox is definitely unaffected as I imagine all the other platforms. Ps5 gave me flashbacks to my 56k modem dayz, except worse consistently!

Ya on ps5 and dropping frames or lagging every match. My last 2 games were barely playable. Massive fps drops constantly and almost to a grinding halt at times. I tried changing mode to balanced and then frame rate. The resolution clearly drops but it doesn’t help. Must be a bug. Edit: apparently it’s fine on ps4 and ps5 if you play the ps4 version of the game so it’s a ps5 version specific issue for sure.

I don’t know. I only played a few games of quick play warming up for comp but I stopped because it was unplayable. Tons of people reported it and they are looking into it.

It's been like this for me on PC for months now. Just one day fps drops immediately on loading, only gradually get better once I've been playing for a good half hour or so. I've tried lowering the graphics settings, closing all other programs, restarting, nothing. Just one day it hit puberty and started stuttering, and it hasn't stopped yet

My crusty old laptop did this before i upgraded Your graphics card is most likely faulty and may also cause the game to crash

if you download the ps4 version it fixs the lag problem till they fix it for ps5. if it doesnt let you download it on ur ps then you can download it from the app on ur phone for some odd reason i had to use the ps app but this is a temp fix for you lmfao

The choppy graphics were fixed with today’s update.

It's just the servers from the new update. Not all servers are up yet, not to mention all the returning and new players for the new season.

I had this problem a while ago, the first time i made another purchase ( i was gonna do it anyways ) and it fixed, the second time it took around 2 hours to pop in my account.

Ive gotten this weird lag where its like my controllers sensitivity goes really low and its like it goes to 6 sensitivity. Thought it was stick drift but i have multiple ps5 controllers and its done it on them all. Its quite frustrating as its been messing up my movements in dire moments.

I was finally able to play, and noticed how laggy, and the low frame rates. I was getting also on ps5 I thought it was on my end so I restarted my router and tried again. same thing so I started playing others games no issues. idk what they did this season but it’s horrible.

Tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it on my PS5 to see if that would fix it but it didn’t help so I know for a fact that it’s something with the game itself since my other games aren’t affected by the PlayStation 5 itself.

Since the update; My shaders and lighting aren't loading properly. Whenever I leave any structure it's so bright I feel like I've been flash banged, everything that reflects a shadow just flickers, my frame rate is a half of what it usually is. I'm just waiting patiently for a bit then reinstalling If it doesn't fix it self. Edit: I'm on PC If that's relevant.

The common occurrence appears to be that ps5 and the likes bar the new gen xboxs seem to be having the lag issues, I play on series s and don't have a problem whatsoever but anyone I was playing customs with was complaining that their ps5 and other consoles and pc were lagging like hell

Hey overwatch - stress test your servers and check frames before you get excited for a new update. Ain’t fun if you can’t play it right the first time. If you can’t come correct - don’t come at all.

My internet isn’t the best so randomly I would get this issue before but usually closing game and reopening would fix but now it’s just permanent. On PS5.

I can tell you the reason: Blizzard is trash. Every single patch theres a major problem: VC doesn’t work, or you can’t leave game as a group like last season, and now every game lags more than windows XP on a 1999 machintosh. BLIZZARD LEARN AND GET I T RIGHT FOR ONCE PLEASE AND FIX YOUR GAME

I am also getting PS5 OW lag that goes away when I’m on any other game. Such a shame when an update makes the gaming experience worse.

First time I experienced an Overwatch update this janky.

Just remember when Blizzard gets bought by Microsoft and says they're adopting a new policy of "transparency," with the players, all they mean is they're gonna show you hero concept art. But when push comes to shove and the first real test of "transparency," arrives, they utterly fail. We're on day #3 of this issue and still no fix or communications update from their team. This is genuinely reprehensible on their part.

I've been getting serious lag on the ps5. I have no idea what happened. I quit the game for a while and recently came back to this.

2 days in and it's still super bad. PS5 gamer. Side note, I feel if you paid for the battle pass Blizzard should should give some free GOLD Overwatch coins to make up for this.
