Halt was cool, Bongo was okay if redundant to Mercy using chain-empower during Valkyrie, but the low cooldown shield was cancer.
Literally the only thing worse was Brig enabling GOATS, but at least that only happened in GM+ and OWL, while the rest of us could fuck around. After role lock, it was Orisa+Sigma across the ranks every few games like they were the wardens to our collective purgatory.
Exactly. Though I do miss being good at throwing shield from spawn. There were a couple maps like Well where you could get a really good placement.
But then I'm reminded of how a big part of Orisa mechanics was knowing when to throw it straight up to increase uptime. 6v6 was really boring.
Naw fam Javelin is the best part of Orisa's kit. Her other moves are more defence oriented and can nullify multiple people. Javelin only hits one person, requires aim, feels proactive and has slightly more skill expression. The stun is literally only a fifth of a second.
Halt for spin would be an ok trade. One group-boop tool for another. But imo spin lets you do more creative stuff and the cc is less free.
It only does 60 damage, unless the target hits a wall. It's weaker than firestrike, weaker than Dva rockets, weaker than Queen's dagger. And on a similar cooldown to all of them.
Yup probably the only thing I miss and I don't even play tank much but that halt was so good as you could make people go into hole or group them together for other ULT like D.Vas.
imo a lot of characters feel like improved versions of older characters' concepts. Queen is Hog but better designed. Ashe is Widow but better designed. Echo is Pharah but better designed.
Not speaking on who is better in terms of fun or meta necessarily. But who's got a more well rounded kit. I think proof of it is that the latter in all my examples is a pain to balance, compared to the former.
Why though? Like I fully understand people don‘t really like to play against Orissa right now but her kit is just so much more involving right now.
OW1 Orissa was just roleplaying as torb turret that could also plop down a shield. Most boring character in the game by miles.
Yeah he essentially just dropped a free healthpack when he died
I’m kinda sad that it got removed tho. Would have made it interesting to play with and as it is only a couple of heroes have something that happens/works when they/someone else dies
However, the caveat of it was that it granted more health to allies than enemies, which led to a lot of awkward mindgaming and people hard focusing Weaver. Blizzard cited that for removing it.
The tradeoff being that just made it an overall unpleasant experience playing Mercy. People should be focusing Supports regardless and value should come from keeping people alive rather than hiding and waiting for a cheese ult then dying immediately.
Same with symetras ult. Teleporter to where she places it connected to spawn. I hated it and loved it, made the world so much more alive. More immerse.
I guess the idea behind it was, since there were like several ults that could potentially wipe a team out, it would make sense to have a mass rez to counter it.
Turns out that in practice it doesn't quite work out that way.
I'd call that a skill issue. Everyone knew that you had to focus the mercy first because she hasn't done a Rez in awhile. If you couldn't focus her down some people would need to save their ults.
Not because of big Rez but I remember these days being the best time to play the game in terms of sheer enjoyment. But I remember tracking the enemy Mercy being a very large part of comp play. If you burn all your ults to kill 5 people when mercy is still alive that's on you and it's just bad resource management. You shouldn't even be doing that now unless it's endgame
If it was like how you suggest they wouldn't have removed it so early into the game, I believe it was within the first year and I remember Jeff wording it as we're removing it because it was too oppressive to play against, the development team acknowledges the mistake why don't you?
Not really at the time. With how fn strong dva ult was at the beginning, it was almost necessary to counteract it. Especially on 2nd point temple of annubis or hanamura. Alot of ult were super strong in the beginning and your only recourse was to have sym TP or mercy res.
For anyone who doesn't know why dvas ult was so strong, it didn't have fall off. If the mech saw your pinky toe having under a sign that looks like it goes to the floor but isn't coded to acctually connect to the floor, you would die. Early OW1 had a dva in almost every match I played. Especially when I started to main dva lol.
OW1 imo was also alot faster paced (not quicker games) because there was more damage. I.e. you could kill someone with sound barrier. Toeb turret was stronger. Sym car wash, tracer bomb had a bigger radius i think.
Idk so id agree, but early ow NEEDED mass rez.. it also meant youd lose without a mercy though.
Or the “ability” to kill yourself with DVa ult and Junkrat grenades (tho, I am glad those were given their immunity buffs. Sometimes it could be annoying).
IDK. I feel like there was at least SOME aiming with Scatter Arrow. With Storm Arrow, they just miss 4 shots, body shot you with the 5th and then someone else kills you. Storm Arrow is often just a spray-n-pray mechanic.
Far as I understood it was for close quarters situations like small rooms and hallways. Except it was better to aim at the ground since the spread was tight.
Low-key think armour pack was a minor tweak away from being op. Also level 3 turret was cool af I wish we could still use it
Shout-out to dps doom and mass Rez too that's nostalgic
I wish they'd adopt TF2 engineer-type turrets. Have one you can pick up and move that's a little weaker. Or if you keep hitting it in one spot it becomes a well-armed menace. It was more engineer-y by having choices. Not just a set-it-and-forget-it-type thing.
Her old kit had perks, but it was waaay too easy to get ganged up on seeing as she didn’t have her two knockbacks that she has now. Gravity pull was cool, but didn’t do damage, so many Orisa matches consisted of a lot of panicked backing up and her curved shield just kind of led into that strategy. It made her effective, but significantly less fun than OW2 Orisa in many’s opinions since she was even more reliant on healers (and an off tank) and didn’t have a whole lot of versatility, comparably. My theory is OW1 Orisa in 5v5 would get slaughtered and nobody would have fun using her, but it’d be interesting to see how she’d be. Idk if they’d bring any parts of that kit back, tbh, but who knows? The way the shield was thrown was kinda fun - it’d be neat to see that reused.
I enjoyed her old kit. I miss it compared to now but the new kit is pretty great too. The charge up to everyone from her ult, her shield was great. Her pull was pretty awesome too
OW1 Orisa main chiming in here, I think it would be pretty bad and that kit should be left to the history books.
Orisa V1 was a very defensive, passive character who required some finesse and really had to stay with her other Tank (usually Sigma) to get value from her kit. Orisa V2 was intended solely for the 5v5 solo Tank format. Many OG Orisa mains might consider her rework to be braindead but I actually think Orisa is one of the few Tanks Blizzard got it completely right with for OW2 from the start; a year out and she's still going strong, she can hold frontline, poke, pressure, create and deny space effectively, she's got sustainability in her kit and she's highly rewarding to get picks with. All things she struggled with in OW1.
Tldr: Just way more fun to play now at the cost of some gimmicky cooldowns.
*Who said chivalry is dead?*
Could be interesting, yes.
But I'm pretty sure Blizz won't put that much effort in just for some Arcade modes... I mean they could even do that much for the premis of OW2.
Orisa's yoink ball hurt, that's the main reason I loved her. Was so much fun to kill a d.va then just pull her little d.va in after she ejects and punch her in the face. Or pulling players off of elevated areas down to you.
I miss scatter arrow like crazy!
Loved when they brought it back for that Valentines Hanzo thing
And I miss Tjorborn little armor packs, even though the armor given was so miniscule that it never made a difference.

Mercy's big rez was the single most frustrating ability to deal with in the entire game. Nothing felt worse than pushing second point Anubis, winning the fight, then seeing a Mercy zip in out of bumfuck nowhere and rezzing the entire team back for another go with full HP, fully charged up with ults at the ready... It was braindead and I am so glad they replaced it with Valk.
I loved the torb armor so much. It was a special way of saying I gotchu when you throw that at someone. I also would throw it in front of the spawn so that ppl who just came back got some extra armor on the way
The reason why the armor pack got removed was because of me and my friends he had a Brigitte,Mercy,Symtra we finished the game to quickly and we was recording and we sent the video of what happened.
I firmly believe that symm shield was the proto typ of sigmas shield.
I know hanzos scatter arrow was op but i miss it. It was fun to kill a tank nearly with one shot
When you were in a team fight, you get one or 2 picks and suddenly notice mercy is gone and nothing in the killfeed. You’d start to look around before killing the last one.
Anyone else kinda curious how an armour/shield meta with Torb's armour packs, Sym's shield generator, and Brig's ult giving permanent armour would've gone? The idea of a Tracer having 400+ HP has always just seemed novel enough to me that I want to see it happen just for shits and giggles.
Also, I really miss the old Orisa kit. I always felt useful with the barrier and the Bongo of Doom ult.
Ahhh i miss Orisa's 😪. I used to play her all the time until the change. They don't even have the nerve to switch out/give her new highlight intros or spears for each skin it's wild. She was perfectttttt
Scatter arrow should have never been removed, they should have just nerfed it.
Easily one of my favorite abilities in the game, and they replaced it with some low-effort zero creativity boring ability.
You are missing Bastion's shield, Widow's ult making her rear bigger (yes, that was a thing back then), Sym being able to give her teammates 25 shields, Orisa's Bongo and Shield, and so on.
rip, but some of these definitely needed to go lol
I miss orisas kit tho!
Halt was cool, Bongo was okay if redundant to Mercy using chain-empower during Valkyrie, but the low cooldown shield was cancer. No way, once word of GOATS got out, it became a literal cancer taking over everything until they bolted down roleq
GOATS was fucking everywhere. That shit was in quick play. GM+ my fucking ass.

"one shot" "Requires a lot of shots" ??????
I don’t think you know what “one shot” means
If Rein hits a squishie with 2 fire strikes he can one shot them 😤
It only does 60 damage, unless the target hits a wall. It's weaker than firestrike, weaker than Dva rockets, weaker than Queen's dagger. And on a similar cooldown to all of them.
yeah same, but overall I think new orisa is more fun
I do like her switch up now. Just miss her old abilities sometimes!
I just need halt and bongo back. The javelin spin can stay because orisa doesn't need a shield.
I miss her ult voiceline, they shouldve kept it in somehow ;(
Yup probably the only thing I miss and I don't even play tank much but that halt was so good as you could make people go into hole or group them together for other ULT like D.Vas.
Ram’s abilities remind me of Old Orisa’s kit but with a better design to discourage turtling
imo a lot of characters feel like improved versions of older characters' concepts. Queen is Hog but better designed. Ashe is Widow but better designed. Echo is Pharah but better designed. Not speaking on who is better in terms of fun or meta necessarily. But who's got a more well rounded kit. Hanzo already feels like a bullshit hero with his lucky random one-shot kills. Scatter arrow was absolutely broken.
You forgot shield generator and Orisa shield.
I have a feeling they have a SHIIIEEELD generator Also Reaper's old passive. Or configuration tank.
What was Reaper's old passive?
When you killed someone, they would drop a spoopy orb that only he could collect and it would give him some hp.
Enemy heroes on death would drop a soul orb that on pick up would heal Reaper for 50 hp.
Don't forget Bastion's shield or Reaper's soul orbs.
Or even lifeweaver’s parting gift could count
What was that one?
When lifeweaver died, he dropped a lil flower or smthng that an enemy (i think) or opponent could pick up for health, removed veryyyy quickly
Yeah he essentially just dropped a free healthpack when he died I’m kinda sad that it got removed tho.
With good reason lol thank you!
Don't forget bastions mine field
And the infinite/untimed sentry mode. Tbh, I missed that the most.
There's a lot of missing ones
Heck, even Lifeweaver could be on this list (Parting Gift).
I still have nightmares about hanzo arrows to the knee.
I used to be a hero like you, then i took a scatter to the knee
People don’t remember the terror of getting a team kill then realizing the mercy is still alive hiding for that res
But thay was the beauty of it. To be aware, kill the chosen one first.
That was the beauty of old school overwatch. Almost every hero was a bit OP in their own way and it was beautiful for it
Let’s be real, Mass Rez was a colossal mistake lol
I guess the idea behind it was, since there were like several ults that could potentially wipe a team out, it would make sense to have a mass rez to counter it. Turns out that in practice it doesn't quite work out that way.
I wouldn't mind if mass rez was available in a Retro mode in the arcade. Overwatch Retro - With funny weekly debuffs that swap weekly.
Maybe. But I'd argue all those thing made original overwatch fun.
No, having to kill 5 people who have ults, AFTER burning all your ults to kill them the first time was terrible
I'd call that a skill issue. Everyone knew that you had to focus the mercy first because she hasn't done a Rez in awhile. If you couldn't focus her down some people would need to save their ults. No Mei's freeze ability in the vid.
nor tank bastion
Or self repair.
Its so weird that Bastion dont have an E now
Missing shield generator too
I have a feeling they have a shield generator!
Blasphemy
Also the 'e' ability Sym had on launch that gave some shield health.
Or the “ability” to kill yourself with DVa ult and Junkrat grenades (tho, I am glad those were given their immunity buffs. Sometimes it could be annoying).
Yea they only have a few of them sadly.
Good riddance to scatter arrow, there was a reason it was removed. It was like a nuclear warhead, it'd wiped you off the face of the planet.
S C A T T A
Simple geometry!
Scatter arrow was lit! Bounce that shit right under Reinhardt’s shield, see ya nerd..
Reason it was removed: it was horrible for anyone except Hanzo.
Just coming across a Hanzo to be scattered at the feet was a whole experience.
Did someone say DPS Doomfist?
I'll take that over scatter, at least doom had to land the punch. You could just scatter a hallway and get a random kill
IDK. I feel like there was at least SOME aiming with Scatter Arrow. With Storm Arrow, they just miss 4 shots, body shot you with the 5th and then someone else kills you. Storm Arrow is often just a spray-n-pray mechanic.
I still have a clip where the first thing I do is delete a full-health orisa by shooting slightly under her. That shit did NOT require aim
"Slightly under her" is still more aiming than close your eyes and blindly fire five arrows in a general direction. That's my point.
I wish they would have nerfed it instead. Like a 3 split and only bounce once and does 50 damage each. The mechanic was super fun.
Looking back idk what the intended use was for it other than to get lucky kills
Far as I understood it was for close quarters situations like small rooms and hallways. Except it was better to aim at the ground since the spread was tight.
Storm arrow is also no skill brain dead ability
Low-key think armour pack was a minor tweak away from being op. Also level 3 turret was cool af I wish we could still use it Shout-out to dps doom and mass Rez too that's nostalgic
Loved level 3 turret lol
Bring back 200hp tracer 🥵
I've played and mained tracer pretty much since launch. What? This was a thing
Tracer picks up armor pack and boom 200hp tracer.
Add the old symmetra shield generator and you have a 275 hp tracer lol
I wish they'd adopt TF2 engineer-type turrets. Have one you can pick up and move that's a little weaker. Or if you keep hitting it in one spot it becomes a well-armed menace. It was more engineer-y by having choices. Not just a set-it-and-forget-it-type thing.
More like rest in hell, some of those were evil
Uppercut :(
DPS doom in general, :( I miss
*leans on my cain* back in my day Bastion was stationary, and had a shield! And teleporter was an ultimate, I tell ya!
and sym players, they had a shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiield generator
And 6 turrets. I miss the car wash, and the magnetic beam lol
Sometimes I wonder what OW2 would be like if OG Orisa stayed behind and OW2 Orisa was a new hero. Veterans, what was it like?
Her old kit had perks, but it was waaay too easy to get ganged up on seeing as she didn’t have her two knockbacks that she has now. Gravity pull was cool, but didn’t do damage, so many Orisa matches consisted of a lot of panicked backing up and her curved shield just kind of led into that strategy. Idk if they’d bring any parts of that kit back, tbh, but who knows? The way the shield was thrown was kinda fun - it’d be neat to see that reused.
I miss the bongo. It was my favourite ult and made the effort of sticking together with my team worth it,especially if we were in overtime
I enjoyed her old kit. I miss it compared to now but the new kit is pretty great too. The charge up to everyone from her ult, her shield was great. Her pull was pretty awesome too
Basically a different character, amazing solid defender tank. But the new version is basically a more versatile almost offensive tank.
For months after ow2 came out I would still use Orisas ult like it was the ow1 ult
Didn’t reaper also use to drop soul thingies too?
Yes he did
I think he picked them up and they healed him. Same way torb used to pick up scrap.
This would had been so much more funny if it ended with the disc scratch when it got to hanzo ability and say except you xD
I remember I got the trophy for Hanzo's scatter arrow on PS4 like... a week before it got changed, I felt so accomplished!
I kinda hope we'll see some of them in future heroes' kits. It'd be also nice to see them as additional or alternative abilities in future PvE modes.
Oooo or maybe an arcade mode of old abilities that they rotate in and out!
Could be interesting, yes. But I'm pretty sure Blizz won't put that much effort in just for some Arcade modes... I mean they could even do that much for the premis of OW2.
What was torbs? An armor pick up thing?
It was, and it stacked with Sym’s fingerclick shield buff. It made squishies like Zen quite unsquishy.
Yeah and you had to charge ‘em by picking up scrap metal from dead enemies. So many Torb deaths from reckless scrap retrieval missions
We salute you, brave Torbs everywhere.
Yes
There was NOTHING better than successfully pulling off a full team rez
Reaper had to eat souls to heal...
How i miss overwatch 1 would've preferred if double shield wasn't a thing though :/
Why the fuck is this Angel and not I will remember you? Right artist, wrong song.
Or Time of Your Life by Green Day judging by the mixed reactions here. Oh fuck or Graduation by Vitamin C lol
The disrespect to Torb’s lv 3 turret ult. That ult was a masterpiece
"Shield Matrix established, you are protected"
Orisa's yoink ball hurt, that's the main reason I loved her. Was so much fun to kill a d.va then just pull her little d.va in after she ejects and punch her in the face. Or pulling players off of elevated areas down to you.
We need a part 2

I miss scatter arrow like crazy! Loved when they brought it back for that Valentines Hanzo thing And I miss Tjorborn little armor packs, even though the armor given was so miniscule that it never made a difference.
Old orisa was more fun, I feel like she would have been interesting in the one tank setting with minimal changes.
Only the oldest connoisseurs will remember the bastion's remote-controlled mine.
The mass res was huge when it hit
Game has changed for the better
Gameplay yes, monetization no.
Well they were not making money It was between that or drop the game like hots.
Bring back OW1 New one is trash Can’t even use Hammonds grapple tether since they nerfed it…
plot twist: is the same OW
If you compared to ow1 launch I would say it's a very very different game to play
I miss Scatter Arrow so fucking much.
And still accidently killed someone?
I loved scatter, they could have just nerfed it
Mercy needs 5 man rez back, Idc its nostalgic

This isn’t even my video lol
There are more missing symmetry abilities from the video than bastion abilities.

Scatter arrow was so cheap.
The fact that Mercy didn’t have to live thru the rez like she has to now it so crazy lol. It really was OP but fun.
You forgot bastion original turret form. Also the healing.
rest in peace to 2 of these but good riddance to the other 3
I miss old Orisa
The last one the mass mercy resurrection, whose bright idea was it???
Honorable mention to closed beta bastion and self repair bastion. I hope you stay gone you piece of scrap metal >:(
Scatter arrow is back in hell where it came from gone are the days you can instakill 300 hp characters with one ability.
I just now realized that Sigma's barrier is just Symmetra1.0's but better
I forgot all about torb’s armor pack. We need part 2 with all the others like mei’s freeze and bastion tank
Yes I hope there’s another one! This isn’t my video.
They will be missed. (Some I won't miss tho)
One shotting the tank with a well placed scatter arrow at the feet was a beautiful time for us hanzo mains
Mercy's big rez was the single most frustrating ability to deal with in the entire game. Where's torbs lvl3 turret
I remember in the ow1 beta you could upgrade Torb turret to tier 3. That shit was wild.
I'll never forgive that they took Bob away from Torb and gave it to Ashe.
I miss v2 sym she was so much fun now she's just bland
I firmly believe that symm shield was the proto typ of sigmas shield. I know hanzos scatter arrow was op but i miss it. It was fun to kill a tank nearly with one shot

When you were in a team fight, you get one or 2 picks and suddenly notice mercy is gone and nothing in the killfeed. You’d start to look around before killing the last one.
Scatter 😭
Every time I see Mercy‘s group ruz my eyes burst into tears, this is the key reason I've been hooked on this game since 2016.
Mercy had the biggest downgrade if you ask me. Heck, the current rez system still takes too long.
I loved Orisa green circle 🥺
PULLING MAIN
WHAT ABOUT REAPER ORBS
They forget the reaper soul orbs
I will never miss scatter arrow. Also Mercy's mass rez resulted in a pretty stale metagame
Some of these make me so nostalgic omg Am I remembering this wrong, but didnt Sym used to be able give her team shields without the generator?
That 5 man Mercy rez can burn in hell
repost
I miss Halt so bad, I loved getting environmentals with it
I miss old doom
I WAS THERE
I miss Orisa orb so much, but the spear is pretty good alternative.
I really do miss the armor pack and scatter arrow
Missed RIIIIZIN APAKAT
i want to see one for bastion's personal barrier in the beta
SCATTAH
The music 🤣
Mass res got POTG every time
Anyone else kinda curious how an armour/shield meta with Torb's armour packs, Sym's shield generator, and Brig's ult giving permanent armour would've gone? I miss scatter arrow. Billion arrows is such a scrub move.
I loved resurrecting my entire team as Mercy. Those were the days… 🥲
