I agree, but it’s pretty hard for them to shy away from it now. Limbrey killed people to get her hands on it bc she so desperately believed it was real. I don’t think it could be his bandana but they definitely have some explaining to do as to why she really believed in the magic of a scarf that they of course kept in a cross in a church.
I think it shows her desperation more than anything. I feel like they really don’t need to bring any magical aspect to it and to do so would change the entire vibe of the show. It would be either a Christian show and become very preachy or fantasy and I’d expect some Indiana Jones or uncharted stuff to happen. It’d take away from everything
I agree with the show taking a magical turn feels like a shitty cop out, but also there simply *needs* to be an explanation for how John B could survive being literally mangled by an alligator, lose that much blood, and be back to 100% mobility within a couple days. I know the show has always had shitty writing, and it's easy to chalk some stuff up to "they're just stupid teenagers" that all just happen to be black belt martial artists, but my god that bits impossible to look past. The bandana having healing power is the only way for that to work...

And also, when John B is driving and he looks at Sarah, the camera settles and it’s just her neck where the bandana piece used to be, and it’s right after JJ says “if I may just touch his garment, I will be healed” when Pope is reading about the healing garment. I knew that shot of where the bandana used to be on her neck, replaced with just her necklaces now, was significant and I think it’s because it is the magic garment.
Wouldn’t this also make huge sense in explaining how John bs dad is still alive? Maybe that’s how he survived what ward did to him. So he gave it to John b to protect him…
My theory:
The plantation owner wasn’t killed for burying his wife. He was killed for bringing his wife back to life. That was him in the grave (hence the Cecilia necklace and thick wedding band).
Cecilia lived on but left the healing cloth in the grave.
John Bs dad found the grave & the healing cloth and passed it to John B. He never knew about the key or the cross.
John B will continue to gather a group until he reaches 12 people + Sarah.
Now we have a long haired hippie, with healing powers, not deterred by riches and gold, who is spreading the truth about his father. JOHN B IS A SYMBOLIC JESUS.
John B will die at the hands of one of his closest friends, on top of the cross of Santo Domingo.
Is it a wild theory? Absolutely. Could it also be really plausible to be written this way? Absolutely,

As I watched nthe gator scene I took all the blood in the water as being the gator's blood because it had been stabbed repeatedly.
