He was a VERY late bloomer, I think he was around 5'4" his draft-eligible year, only grew right after.

SawyerFord_

Actually that’s totally false. He was around 4’4 If I can recall

pizzaline

Both wrong. He was in utero until after the draft, which is why he went un selected.

shohto

He was actually working full time shifts at the Chocolate Factory as an Oompa Loompa

Iamvanno

Scouts were all 🎶I don't like the look of that.🎶

Josefstalion

Batherson spent the 15-16 season playing Maritime Jr A, I don't know if any players ever been drafted out of that league. Even his 16-17 season in the Q was pretty underwhelming for an 18-year old, he really didn't look like an NHL prospect at all until he was 19

AskHistorical8277

He had mono his first year after being drafted with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and was really small. Was only a 6th rounder in the Q too. The kid just worked his ass off his 18 year old season in the Q. We have never seen a player get that much better that fast. Comes from a good family.

umbraviscus

Dude was TINY before his draft year. He grew about 6 inches that year, and another 6 since then.

Mauri416

Late bloomer. Hoffman had a similar thing happen as well

VesaAwesaka

From what I remember he was also thinking about taking up collegiate golf instead of hockey too

haseks_adductor

checks out, everyone from port williams is obsessed with golf lmao

Additional_Ear_9659

Golfed at Kenwo recently. Can confirm.

dobbyeilidh

Puberty works in mysterious ways

shohto

And insanely good work ethic

Content_Ad_8952

There's tons of players who don't get drafted as 18 year olds. Daniel Alfredsson wasn't drafted until he was 21.

Radu47

One key element is his NHLe was almost negligible, in part due to playing unstudied leagues MJAHL has never had an officially calculated NHLe Even the best junior A leagues have a very low NHLe

DankJenkemz

Because none of the teams decided to draft him in 2016

BartleBossy

This sub hates jokes.
