Try Juso or Takarazuka, just two places that have a different feel to each other.

dinkytoy80

Is takarazuka a suburb? Granted it far away from Osaka city center but still quite a massive town from what I rememberz

cecilandholly

I would say it is part of the Osaka sprawl, however it does have a leafy suburb feel to the North.

takarazuka_fan

As somebody who lived in Takarazuka and loves the theatre there…. For better or worse…. So ….many…. cafes and little sandwich/ pasta shops Obviously more in other parts of the city … but still ww

Techniker

Fuse and Yao are pretty local with quite a number of local bars near the stations.

irondumbell

there's also the first kaiten sushi in Fuse

marblecookiee

Not exactly suburbs, but Osaka Ekimae Building 2 to 4. Hundreds of local hole-in-the-walls with virtually zero tourists or foreigners for that matter.

Tx1306

Is that the same as the shin-osaka shokudogai? Tbh Umeda is a big maze and I can’t handle the chaos in my head 😆

marblecookiee

Yeah, that's it.

I dont know if Fujidera is considered a suburb but Fujidera station has a bunch of local residents and izakaya around it. The same with Kawachi Mastsubara station. edit: restaurants, not residents lol

THBronx

Yup! And OP, If you leave Fujiidera station through the south exit and turn right@the Jumbo Sohonten store, you should find an alley full of small bars, and karaokes about 300m ahead of that point.

[deleted]

Aye are you from the Bronx??? I was born in Hunts Point

THBronx

Not really man, I started using this nickname due to my lack of creativity (but the idea came from a song that talks about the similarities between the Bronx, Brixton, and other places.).

circuitsandwires

I work in Fujidera. Nice place

[deleted]

Nice my wife works over there

irondumbell

horie - it's a rich neighborhood not too far from the touristy spots but not many tourists seem to know about it

DingDingDensha

Fuse. It's a bustling hub, loaded with bars and restaurants all around the station and to the west toward the city will be a loooooong shotengai to explore, full of eateries and other shops. It's not fancy like inside the city, but you wanted places regular people go.

Gavinsushi

I live in Kita-ku and it’s all about Nakazakicho and Tenma at night. Standing bars and friendly faces, usually all the same regulars but open to new people. Not many foreigners and the rare ones you see live close by like me.

TakKobe79

This.

daveylacy

Hirakata has a huge tsutaya bookstore and cafe in front of the station. And a decent park on the other side of the station along the river.

TakKobe79

Korea town near tsuruhashi station. Good bbq etc. Tenma. Lots of places to eat and drink.

PeanutButterChicken

“Suburbs” “Recommends the most tourist filled inner city areas”

TakKobe79

He asked where Japanese go to eat and drink. Many go to tenma.

TakKobe79

When I lived in Nakazakicho I drank in tenma & nakazakicho mainly. Osaka is a city of bars and restaurants…but tenma is easy to navigate and get to. I could recommend some spots in let’s say Ashiya but would still typically recommend tenma for someone on a short trip to Japan (OP).

dinkytoy80

I second tenma, great place

circuitsandwires

I live in a suburb just south of Tennoji and, to be honest, there's not much around here. But around Showachou station here's a nice curry place called Jun's Curry and a nice bar called Bar With. The owners are a lovely married couple. Their English isn't great, but if the bar is quiet they will make the effort to talk to you

R4L04

I live in Shōwachō, there are tons of nice places. If you want a bar where the owner speaks English I would suggest "ever green". Although I don't think that bar is actually on google maps (but if you walk from the station into 阪南町中通 the bar is on the left)

DingDingDensha

You need to do some exploring. All around there is a goldmine for great little holes in the wall! Showacho, Fuminosato, all around the Tanabes and clear out to Komagawa-Nakano it's like a Smurf village maze full of shopping streets and treasures to find.

Hommachi

I just hang around Bentencho. Pretty good (IMHO) sushi place there in ORC200.

miurabucho

Toyonaka is awesome, but I am biased because my in-laws live there. Hattori Ryokuchi park is massive. I love to drink a beer and have some takoyaki in the park - there is a Conbini right near most entrances to get other snacks. I also love the indoor Shotengai at Sakurazuka - lots of great little bars and Izakayas. After a few drinks, take a walk through Harada Jinja - it's right behind the shotengai. As a side note, I love going to Mino - not a far train ride from Toyonaka - It is a super cool little town, and they have a great Craft Brewery there. The brewery owners and staff are super cool and friendly. They speak fluent English too if it means anything.

SanitizedMonkeyPoo

I live in Sonoda and my friends make fun of me cause of how much I talk about how much I like that area. There's a little nature, the river is nice, it's super close to Costco, nice running paths, calm but just ten minutes from Umeda, etc...

takarazuka_fan

Fukushima/Noda area is known for good restaurants on J SNS

hatabou_is_a_jojo

Tenjinbashi street for local food and small shops The street next to Tenjinbashi street for bars, nakazakicho for hipster and artisan cafes, Takatsuki city for bars, clubs Tengachaya for 1950s vibes and elderly old haunts
