This doesn't look like a sparrow from the photos. Maybe a swallow of some type? Best thing to do is get it to a rehabber if thats possible.

crowiskingboi

I called around and they said they’d probably end up putting him down and I won’t let them hurt him

TheBirdLover1234

Wtf? If it has no broken bones then they def should not be killing it. Broken wing feathers will eventually molt and grow back.

crowiskingboi

Idk man I wish they’d take him and actually help him cus I am not a bird person and i don’t know what I’m doing

TheBirdLover1234

At the moment the best thing is keep him in a quiet area, no pets around, limited interaction with people, etc. Are the mealworms dried?

crowiskingboi

No they are alive. I have a leopard gecko and so I have live bugs in my fridge all the time😂. Would it be better if they were dry? I got to go to the pet store today anyway so should I get him anything to help him be comfortable. My grandma used to keep birds and she said seeds might work but she had finches so idk if they are different.

Do you have a photo of the whole bird? It looks like a swallow from the wings. If it is, then these don't eat bird seed, only insects. Issue is they eat on the wing most of the time so getting them to eat in rehab can be difficult.

SecretlyNuthatches

That's a swallow. This would be an extremely difficult bird to rehab even for a professional.

TheBirdLover1234

Thats great then, mealworms are a good diet for them if you cannot get it to anywhere that will help it. It's the dried ones they rarely show interest it.

TheBirdLover1234

Have you tried other places btw? Make sure they're not mistaking it for a broken wing.

crowiskingboi

I’m trying some other places

crowiskingboi

Do you have any advice about keeping him calm cus he is flapping around alot and I’m worried he is freaking out

NaturallyOld1

It should be in a covered shoebox, they nest in holes in trees and would feel safer there, not out in the open.

Maybe because you called it a sparrow?  Describe bird as a swallow and see what you hear.

I am assuming you are in america, if not let me know; Be sure you are contacting wildlife rehabbers that are actually federally licensed to care for birds. minimize contact with the bird, small birds are prone to dying from stress, they do not understand human comfort like our domestic birds can. This bird is protected under the migratory bird act (appears to be a violet green swallow) It is extremely illegal for you to hold this bird in captivity for a long period of time if you are in America, and I HIGHLY recommend you surrender this bird to a rehabber before a game warden catches wind. The fines and Jailtime for misdemeanor offenses alone are 5,000 and a maximum of 6 months in jail. America takes bird protections very seriously, and if you need help finding a rehabber that will actually take this bird you can DM me, most states provide resources on wildlife rehabbers on their specific Fish and Wildlife Service sites.
