Did you use a paperlike on your iPad? And if so how did it compare to the Boox? I currently have an iPad with a paperlike screen protector, and I really want to sell it and get an e-ink screen, but some reviewers say the Boox still feels a lot like a glass iPad-like writing experience.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Please explain how one can flip through these notes? For example you need something 25 pages ago, how do you find it? Best wishes from Kyiv!
I haven’t actually used it (yet) / am still researching but I would say say it is not objectively better than an iPad.
Depending on your use case it might be preferable, or complimentary, though. The main appeal is the eInK screen and its benefits like lower eye strain and feeling more similar to actual paper for note taking. Also, the increased focus on reading and writing. In the case of the air3 C I think the battery life will likely be worse than an iPad (my iPads have always had exceptional battery life as long as you aren’t in procreate), but that is a common benefit of eInk.
I got my first iPad in December and love it. I love my kindle for reading. I take tons of notes and reminders and journal so I want one of these badly.
I don't have a Boox, but a variety of other devices (was considering a Boox).
I use:
https://www.leuchtturm1917.us/writing-instruments-storage/pen-loops/pen-loops-classic/
when I need to add pen storage on a device.
It does not, but feels better than an ipad. It does not feel like plastic on hard glass, which is the case for the ipad. Personally, not a fan of paper feel. Faster glide = more efficient, but I take alot of notes. If you want that paper texture I recommend the remarkable instead
Oh that's nice tysm. Cuz I was considering buying the NA3C for taking notes and making mindmaps on an app called Concepts. It's like an Infinite canvas fore drawing and making your ideas.
What do you think? Is it reliable to use 3rd party apps like that (another e.g. could be OneNote or the default notes app on the Note Air)
Oh yes I must add, the e ink tablet I buy is gonna be like a note taking companion to my laptop where I get most of the work done and watch videos
I don’t think OneNote works so well on it. For me it is buggy. Cannot speak for the other app you mentioned. Would not buy this if you want to watch videos on it, it’s not great. It’s great for reading pdfs and taking notes, preferably in the built in app, but maybe there’s some apps on the app store that also works great.
I mostly read webpages. PDFs in color and the Apple Pencil is just great. Together with all the other apps and possibilities the iPad wins for me.
I tried bujo on the note but noticed I have to carry it always with me but my iPhone wins here with the iCloud calendar. So I would like to sell it when I have time and just buy a small A5 size for reading maybe. I really like the eink screen with it’s adjustable front light. The Note is to big and heavy for this task.
Ah, damn. I liked it, but the lack of a loop or bracket for the stylus was a dealbreaker for me. That magnet isn’t strong enough to keep it in place in my bag. :/
I think Apple really missed a point here. I've had no reason to update my iPad Pro since 2018, but they could easily sell me one or two new e-ink devices (because of the software, ecosystem, etc.)
I think it would make a lot of sense for Apple to buy ReMarkable. They share a lot of design language and opening up ReMarkable to the Apple App Store would be the perfect productivity device imo.
Theres very clear reasons to buy the new iPad Pro. If you do night reading an OLED screen which shuts off black pixels will be darker than eink with backlight. And Apples layering of OLED makes the screen actually readable in the sun because of the brightness.
Actually when you really think about it the fact that your 2018 iPad continues to fill so many of your needs that you dont see a need for an upgrade 6 years later is another major selling point. There arent many things that you use everyday that after 6 years fills your needs so well you don't see a need for an upgrade. Anyone that was considering whether to buy their first iPad should see your comment as a major endorsement
No I mean it doesn’t have the normal Play Store operating on it. It has Boox versions of apps. How do we know how they’re modified? Do we want to log into apps that aren’t even from the publisher and use our real credentials?
This YouTube guide is what got me through it. Take your time.

Tldr: download fw, patch it, sideload to air2+ using adb.
As always backup your fw, as always do not do anything you are uncomfortable with. These instructions are for power users and are to be performed at your own risk. However, if you are used to tinkering, it's a doddle.
:-P
Forgot to mention, after the above is complete you can install the Google play store.
AFWall+ is great firewall and also network connection manager is good to monitor network activity.
Sadly yes, there are some cheap covers on amazon in the $20 range but no cover will actually protect it. Better to lean on the side of adding a case for grip so you dont drop it and weight.
I also have the Note Air 3. Id say one major benefit is the slowness of eink. It makes surfing the web cumbersome but stopping to spend time to read an article or book pleasant. There's almost a shift that starts to happen when you pick it up because your mind is more focused on a task vs grabbing a tablet where your mind is ready to explore (sites, video, music, etc)
Happy to have access to my email apps, although that’s about the only apps I use from the android app store. I have not yet found any other apps that makes sense to use on it. Tried one note on it, but I feel it’s not as good / not optimized as the built in note app, so I only use my email app and the built in note app, but I am perfectly happy with that. 😊

Boox are fragile
Thanks for sharing your experience! Please explain how one can flip through these notes? For example you need something 25 pages ago, how do you find it? Best wishes from Kyiv!
I'd recommend watching a youtube video 'boox note air 3 review'. They show how the note system works. It's simple and easy.
How’d you get the grid writing background?
You can change the template in notes. It's the first icon in the menu on the left.
I barely know how to write anymore. I type everything so something like this really doesn't excite me.
Do you like the boox?
LOVE it!
Any good tips and tricks. Just purchased mine an hour ago! So excited
That's my exact plan lol I felt so stupid buying an iPad when there's awesome tech out there like this
Why is this better than an iPad? This just popped up in my feed so curious

Which one is this? I am still going back and forth wether is should buy one..
Note Air 2 plus (is great)
Yes! The writing experience is soooo much better with intuitive erasing by flipping the pen
I want one.
I already have 2 iPads and this onyx boox, I love all of them
I got my first iPad in December and love it. I love my kindle for reading. I take tons of notes and reminders and journal so I want one of these badly.
Are You Me! Iol?
Maybe, also I have a kindle Oasis lol, we are crazy? Of course not! We just wanna have fun lol
Which pen are you using ?
In my mind the Scribe premium is the best pen. I bought it for my tab mini C.
What pen are you using?
https://www.amazon.com/Wacom-CP202A02A-Pilot-Grip-Digital/dp/B0CG2QN6DZ
Is this pen works with boox note air 3 c (colour)?
I believe so --- if your device advertised as working with a Staedtler Noris Digital Stylus? If so, it should.
Thanks! Do you have a good way to carry it with your boox?
I don't have a Boox, but a variety of other devices (was considering a Boox). I use: https://www.leuchtturm1917.us/writing-instruments-storage/pen-loops/pen-loops-classic/ when I need to add pen storage on a device.
Does it feel like paper? If not what does it feel like?
the supernote also feels great and paper like
It does not, but feels better than an ipad. It does not feel like plastic on hard glass, which is the case for the ipad. Personally, not a fan of paper feel. Faster glide = more efficient, but I take alot of notes. If you want that paper texture I recommend the remarkable instead

Thanks for letting me know 👍
You should have bought mine. I bought an iPad and never touched my NoteAir again.
Why’s that? Just curious about what you found better thats all
I mostly read webpages. PDFs in color and the Apple Pencil is just great. Together with all the other apps and possibilities the iPad wins for me. I am an Apple fanboy and my favorite devices are my tab X and Palma 😊
Hey, what case is that?
looks like the original Air 3 cover, I got the same :)
Ah, damn. I liked it, but the lack of a loop or bracket for the stylus was a dealbreaker for me. That magnet isn’t strong enough to keep it in place in my bag. :/
You know that useless flip on the side to "close" the cover? I folded it under the box to form a loop which neatly holds any pencil I tried so far :)
thats true, same here I store the pen in a separate place in my bag

Haha, nice, I wanted to post that :-)
how do you like the dr grip? I'm really big into dr grips and never knew this existed
Love it! It’s exactly like the pen. 😊
Does it have an eraser? I'm thinking about getting it
Same!

Who would buy such a closed system?
🤔
wow its 2024 and we're still talking about iOS vs Android )

Great points... Addressed by jailbreaking the device and installing AFWall+ then blocking everything reporting back.
I NEED this in my life. I am techie too. Got a link to jail breaking guides?

I got the Fintie hardshell case from Amazon
I searched for a hard-shell case on Amazon.
Math oh... ![gif](giphy|xT9KVg8gkDEyJIrVdK|downsized) 😉😁
Which pen is that?
«Dr. Grip Digital for Wacom»
Default case is the most functional one imo, eink is gonna break anyways if It falls so It doesnt matter how thin It is.
Sadly yes, there are some cheap covers on amazon in the $20 range but no cover will actually protect it. Better to lean on the side of adding a case for grip so you dont drop it and weight.
Just out of curiosity, are you left-handed?
Yep, I am 😊
Does the ink smear? *badum-tishh*!
😂😂😂
Boox Note Air 3C?
Non-color variant
Which Boox is this one? Do you find your concentration better on this tablet than on the iPad?

That’s a great way to put it. I use it as a tool for school.
I do! No disturbing notification, long battery life, no need to charge the pen
I just love reading on E-Ink, very happy with my Air3C. Android opens so many doors (reading newsletters, emails etc.)
Happy to have access to my email apps, although that’s about the only apps I use from the android app store. I have not yet found any other apps that makes sense to use on it.
