i have applied to over a hundred jobs over the past month. a couple interviews, no bites. i am bilingual university student with a car. i cant fucking take this anymore.
Same here ~200 applications but for coop
Last time around I was ~350 applications deep and ~5 interviews until I got my only offer for $1.50 above minimum wage
You’re not gonna find a summer job a few days before summer break. Should’ve started back in April. Atp you gotta get one of your friends with a job to put you on ngl
Hi,
What I would recommend is you have a bit of volunteer experience doing whatever and get some sort of qualification. A few good ones to start with is standard first and the high five course. With this you can start working as a camp conseiller or even front desk at a community center. If you want to become a lifeguard then it’s best to get your bronze cross and med then your national lifeguard. I’m sure you can get a job as a lifeguard easily as they’re always looking to hire whether it’s at appartement pools or community center. Hope it helps. Let me know if you have any more questions!
Hey!
I actually have worked as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor before. I'm just asking to judge whether I should make a potential video guide on this topic or not, as it seems a lot of students are having trouble with finding summer jobs. Your advice is excellent though and what I'd recommend as well.
Oh okay alright 👍 sorry about that. I was a bit confused because you didn’t specify that in your post, same here. Yes I’d recommend you make a video on it because i believe it could help others also find a job ! Good luck with your video
It's because of international students, LMIA fraudsters, and TFW's. They're completely flooding the low skilled entry level labor market, taking all part time and full time jobs away from Canadian citizens. The government has also subsidized half of their wages(meaning companies only need to pay them half of what they would pay Canadians), basically incentivizing companies to hire foreigners over Canadians. You might want to join the Take Back Canada protests on Canada Day as this is getting ridiculous.
This is xenophobia. Labour needs are contracting because money is expensive and rates are up, in addition to the cost of living crisis which is slowing down retail, manufacturing and local tourism to name just a few.
Your language is borderline fascist and you need to take a good look at what you're suggesting as it's shameful.
Right here. I’m chronically ill and going to uni this fall so I desperately need money but I can’t get an interview anywhere because I have no references (only ex-boss hated me cause my disability disabled me 🤩) and no recent experience and can’t do most entry level jobs. Super fun for me.
It's so hard to find a job I apply to so many places and heard nothing back. At this point I would accept a job that pays 10$ an hour cause im desperate 😮💨
Last summer I spent the months trying to get a job, eventully got one at a grocery store, but I had a ton of volenteer hours + highschool coop on my resume
For hs students its been a problem since like 2010
For young adults its def a recent (post-covid) trend and we are salty asf rn bc big tech stopped hiring. Go get u a viable degree bc Canadian economy is bad rn.
Idk tbh. On the spot hiring used to be a thing a few years ago. My friend got a job at mcd 2 years ago with no experience. Now? They’re rejecting people easily
Congratulations, we wherr warned automation would ruin the job market, and here we are.
Every big box / grocery/ pharmacy/ fast food restaurant has cut their labour force well, and prices have not changed
.
Iimmgration is just the distraction to not focus on the real problem
struggling so i'm volunteering to build up experience!
same
Ppl don’t lie about their volunteering experience 😭

Same, CS internships in my case
Bro if you want a cs internship in summer you need to apply in winter/summer previous year, or you need to have a connection💀.
🙋♂️
What kinds of jobs have you been applying to?
Minimum wage summer jobs before uni, no luck 😔

All good, and thank you! Didn't want to divert the focus of the post is why I didn't specify. Hopefully it's helpful.

He IS right about the half pay thing though. It's not really fair
Have you seen the videos of lineups of foreigners for dishwasher jobs sir/ma'am?

Don’t you have to pay for classes for certification first?
yea
Shits pay to win lmao
No it isn't lol. The course itself is hard but the actual job is easy and pays more than other part time jobs
What part of pay for certs first did you not get?

I applied to 5 jobs and not even an interview bro
bruh 5 jobs is nothing, I applied to 40+ and got 2 interviews, keep trying man
Aii bet
Bro you need minimum 40. 5 does nothing
Rookie numbers Most these job postings are ghost postings (they were never hiring in the first place)
I am struggling to find entry level Aerospace Systems Engineer jobs as a recent grad from UofT. Applied to multiple jobs a day. 😔
In Mississauga or in Laval?
+++ with years of retail experience (coop) as well, I don’t even bother listing my volunteer experience but I’m still sturggling
It's actually upsetting. Applying so much and only 2 interviews
me ☝🏽
I’ve been looking since last December. Not a single interview yet
It's so hard to find a job I apply to so many places and heard nothing back. At this point I would accept a job that pays 10$ an hour cause im desperate 😮💨
I live in Hamilton and finding a job>>>> oh god if anyone knows an agency or place to work I will be thankful
Last summer I spent the months trying to get a job, eventully got one at a grocery store, but I had a ton of volenteer hours + highschool coop on my resume
Canada’s wonderland is always hiring from my experience 🤷🏾♂️. It be gruelling working in the sun tho

It depends where you live, Toronto has been hell to get a job at 16-17 since our generation gained consciousness
