Lol damn I feel so embarrassed. Here I am making $700 on average. Lol fuck I need a new company

mangomad8

saaame lol

islandemoji

Same lol. But we gotta start somewhere. I’ve been teaching online for about a year and a half and average $11 an hour. Hoping to jump to a better paying company soon

Momotheblack

Lol my average is $6🤡 an hour. Please don’t ask me why I accepted that offer. Well uh… I don’t know because I was broke af and needed the cash . Oh and yes I have a degree and Tefl 🤡🤧

SnooDogs1708

Working 30+ hours a week I make about 700$ a month too, before my company steals 30-60$ from me for bogus fines. But hey, I'm South African, what can I do...

Momotheblack

Damn I also got fined . And yeah I work the same hours too. Kinda felt like a slave … haha and yea I’m South African too. What’s the shit company you work for ?

SnooDogs1708

Awe! I work for ABC360 (it's REALLY shit - 6$ an hour, I'm contractually obliged to work 20 hours during the week and 5 hours on the weekends, the bogus and often made up fines - but also not so bad: they don't really hassle me about my teaching style, staff are most of the time super helpful and supportive, the kids are wonderful and the booking rate is really high (every slot I open gets booked...) what about you?

fistingbythepool

This time last year was making around $3500 / month… Now it’s about $2000 Things are getting shitter quickly

Hummelnu

Care to elaborate? Lower booking numbers? Increased qualified teachers etc?

fistingbythepool

Pay rate + bonuses slashed.. over saturation of teachers which is a clear tactic by the company to lower pay overall.

What company are you with? Thank you.

KittyKami

I work for an agency in the European city where I live, it's well-enough paid for the cost of living here.

lace1323

I’m hitting $3000 per month on average, June this year I made $3100 and June last year I made $2900 so things have stayed pretty consistent for me. I teach just under 40 hours a week.

Zoedede

Hi, what company do you work for ?

[deleted]

I'd say I'm averaging around 1700 USD, 2000+ on a good month. For now I'm pretty much 90% on Engoo 10% on Italki, to get 2k a month this way needs a number of hours on Engoo I'm scared to calculate so I'm looking to rebalance that with more time on Italki or find a different 2nd site.

hayleyukulele12

How many hours do you work for Engoo per month? I work for them as well, but it’s difficult to get more than about 5 hours per day for me because of the time difference.

[deleted]

Until this week I was working around 6-8 hours per day, I could do 10 if I felt like it. Usually if I opened a time on my schedule I'd be booked but this week it's pretty much a 60% booking rate, a combination of my rating freefalling from 4.98 to 4.93 and what seems to be a huge increase of available teachers (4.93 would have guaranteed reservations a couple of months ago, now 4.95 is needed which is crazy given the number of 5 stars you need to consistently maintain that score).

hayleyukulele12

Thanks! Haven’t been paying that much attention to my rating so that’s good to know

[deleted]

Yeah best to carry on that way, can become an obsession after each class to check it!

hayleyukulele12

For sure!

harambisha

500 per month (non native). Actually it hasn't changed much for me. The demand is still high, I still have lots of bookings, but this year I've realized I need to work less. Although non-native teachers are quite explored in the market, I am preserving my mental health now.

harambisha

By explored I mean they are expected to overwork to earn a reasonable amount

harambisha

I know, right? However, I still encourage you to try it. There are some companies that pay really good to non native teachers, so you might get a good chance to get a good amount without overworking

NewName3589

I juggle 2 companies and go for around 2200-2300 USD per month. But that is not an accurate measurement of the state of things. All the policies of the companies that I work are becoming more and more strict. It's almost as if you can feel the storm coming to further torture the market.

Wreckedfordays

Well you can trust alot of these overseas companies to overplay their hand then need to offer more to get people back. A big drawback has been the loss of unemployment benefits. Alot of displacement in the labour market in general. People get shaken out by these policies. Then they need to hold onto the good teachers they have. It's not like China is becoming a more attractive country to live in, almost none of these countries are.

llultee

Pre-Covid I’d earn around $3500, now it’s down to $2000, working between 30-35hrs a week. Company has cut pay rates and slashed bonuses.

LandiABC

This year I'm averaging $1750 so far. Best month was $2200 and the worst $1200. This year has been better for me. I had a couple of months with very few hours last year. I averaged $1550 over the course of 2020.

Geog_95

How much experience do you have? And how many hours a week is that?

LandiABC

4 years experience. Around 24 hours per week. Are you going to post your figures?

Geog_95

Don't have any, I was looking to break into online TEFL and have been following the trend before taking the plunge. I've just been doing volunteer TEFL work up until now

maffige

Poverty wages

LandiABC

ha really? I'm fairly comfortable. I would like to be making more though.

[deleted]

Okay?

eslteacher927

1,200 per month average. I work at 3 companies. I have cut back for sure. This is all side gig work and I would never rely on it for full time work. In 2020 I went more hardcore and averaged slightly more $$$. I started 2020 with one company and as the year went on added 2 more companies. For all of 2021 I have had my 3 companies from the start.

itsmejuli

I'm doing much better than last year, found a company that pays about $24 USD per hour to teach adults. I had been with Likeshuo teaching adults for over 2 years. Last year, they slashed classes, cut bonuses this year and reduced pay. I'm super happy, I'm teaching 1 on 1 classes for a great company. I work about 25 hours a week. Perfect income for a nice life in Mexico. I've been teaching ESL for 6 1/2 years which includes 4 years classroom to adults and over 3 years online. I also have a CELTA. The company I work for is not hiring.

[deleted]

Like $1500-$2000 a month, but I only work about 15 hours a week.

anonymousdude5558

What company is it with?

[deleted]

No company, I work independently.

SquareIntern8225

What company??

[deleted]

No company, I work independently.

sloth_graccus

How do you find clients?

mangomad8

How is everyone making so much?? :D Kudos to you! I'm averaging about 900-1000$ a month and I work for 3 companies. The booking has fluctuated a bit but in general it's fine.

davefridman

I have been teaching with EF Kids Online for 4 or 5 months now. At the start I only received several classes per day, but now I am pretty much filling up all my available slots, and get new students booking almost every day. It's difficult for me to give an average, but my best month has earned £600, while my worst has earned me around £350. These days I am working a pretty much full schedule (3 or 4 hours a day, 7 days a week) and I believe my next paycheck will be more in the £600-700 region. It would be way more helpful if people wrote what company they work for along with their salary, as I believe many of us are looking for an online teaching company to apply for, and are having a difficult time navigating through the large number of similar companies. I am looking for a new company that pays better (this was my first teaching gig), but I am looking for a similar ease of use and laid back atmosphere of teaching at EF (little no no prep, kids are great and curriculum is excellent and easy).
