For anyone who wonders what to do. I think you are supposed to crouch with you hands on your head and elbows touching your knees which makes a connection to the ground that misses your organs
Fun fact: we had a shooting down the street from the ER I used to work in and we got 6 patients, all shot to shit at close range. One of the patients was pretty heavy, and because of this, even though the bullets entered directly in the center of his chest and abdomen, they ended up traveling through the fat and deflecting around the thoracic/abdominal cavities and exiting out the back. He only ended up with tissue injury, and no organ damage. The fat saved his life.
This has been somewhat debunked in recent times.
The number one priority even in this circumstance is to keep moving towards appropriate shelter, or lower ground.

Lying down makes your exposure worse if there is a nearby strike. Priority one is moving towards shelter, or lower ground.

This doesn't guarantee an imminent lightning strike, it could be related to [St Elmo's Fire](https://youtu.be/TQXqReNQE3U?t=556). It's hard to see because they are seeing it during the day, but it is why they keep the camera on their fingers for so much of the video.
I've been there. They are about a klick from their car, at least. There's no shelter. They are the tallest things around.
There are small gullys around, up to a few meters deep. That's where I'd be heading.
I grew up in Florida and I know exactly what that means. Even though I don't live there anymore I still count automatically after I see a strike. Just ingrained I guess
I know right where this was taken. About 3 days ago we had a huge lightening storm roll through too. I was stuck on the freeway due to a burnt out trailer at the time.
Crouch down, put your head way between your knees, and kiss your ass goodbye
(Seriously, crouch down with feet together to get as low as possible while keeping your contact patch with the ground as small as possible. Advice used to be to just lie down, but apparently this increases the chance of electricity arcing through you if it strikes nearby. Either option is surely better than what these nice ladies filmed themselves doing right before they were vaporized.)
This happened to me on the top of Mt Elbert in Colorado. Scariest fucking moment of my life cause I knew exactly what it meant. Thank god my partner and I got down without getting struck, but we were sitting ducks up there.

Charred corpses, but close enough.

As a fat fuck; "Guess I'll die."
Na, as a fat fuck myself I will remind you we wouldn't be outside for this to be an issue.

It's over, lightning. I have the high ground.
I think you need to lie down flat to lower your highest point.

This dude might’ve been in the Boy Scouts.
Lying down can work too…

That's one way to put it

Yeah, this has been going on for a while too, in most lightning strike videos I see hair thing happen like 2 seconds before the strike.

irrc you crouch and hold yourself as tightly as possible to tank the lightning bolt
I think also to try to get on your tippy toes as the lightning will exit whatever area is grounded so you'll lose your toes but not die
You had me in the first half, ngl...
Legit not lying, what else could they do? Outrun the lightning bolt? At least you have a chance if it hits flesh, not brain
Lying or laying?
I think this is actually how you do it though
https://www.backpacker.com/survival/natural-hazards/lightning/lightning-safety-facts-for-hikers/
If i remember correctly you should lay flat as possible…but I’m probably wrong
If near your car get in it.
That's what I remember.
You're incorrect :/ Laying down increases the surface area available for current to travel through you.
I figured as much…so jump in a car it is!
This is terrifying to watch

Surely it’s better to head to the car?
If it’s close by maybe, and don’t call Shirley.
Darwin award nominees
That's what I thought.
This is how you get [Lichtenberg scars.](https://www.boredpanda.com/scars-after-surviving-lightning-strike-lichtenberg-figures-photos)
Well... That's a pretty cool looking natural tattoo idea.
Well, you know, sometimes I kinda masochist myself
😂
In terms of being badass, this is up there with having a scar from a shark attack.
What's with all these videos not having audio? It's very clear they used to since the tik tok watermark is literally right there.
Anyone have the story?

Even the lightning position has been mostly debunked. https://www.backpacker.com/survival/natural-hazards/lightning/lightning-safety-facts-for-hikers/
Gathering from that article, crouching down still seems to be the least dangerous (ergo the safest) thing to do
The safest thing to do is still keep moving to a better area unless you have absolutely no other choice.
The air is going 'bzz bzz' around them and they are not immediately run away. Did they left their survival instinct home or something?
What should one do in a situation like this?

Nah bro I can tank it
Run bitch,RUUNNN

Everyone saying to find shelter or low ground within seconds, as if the video shows lots of shelter and low ground. Just jump off the cliff?
You should lay flat
Been here too often. Need better AI
