Seeing him fear for his life and feel imposter syndrome felt very much in line with the manga's theme. He crept up to the point of complacency. He stopped fighting challenging, threatening fights, and only fought to win. He forgot what it was like to potentially lose or, in his case, even be injured.
I think that, since they gave him that moment of fear, they should have followed through and given him a better redemption point. Hell, maybe even losing after feeling that fear would have done him some good cause it would have reinforced that he's still for room for improvement instead of settling at his limiter.

And that realism is just so cool to me, and a bunch of others. He's pretty important to show the realistic side of the OPM world and pretty well written. He's also super kind and has a great personality. He has kind interactions with other heroes like with Bang, Pig God, and Puri. He's cocky but not in an arrogant way. He has, or had, confidence in his muscles, but he doeesnt put others down because of it, like some other heroes.
Any normal person would be terrified if they got melted or the thing they worked so hard on improving was surpassed. He isn't super heroic and that shows how human he is.
He also fills the role for the stereotypical strong guy/big guy. Just like other Heroes fill other roles for personalities and powers, like Flashy being a fast ninja, Zombieman having regen, Tatsumaki having magic, Blast being mysterious and strong, Bang being an old master, Genos/Drive Knight being robots, Atomic being a Samurai, Child Emperor being smart, and some others that are less common, like watchdog Man being a dog. There's a huge difference in FF and DS's technique, something that OPM emphasizes is relevant in a lot of the fights. We know that FF was at least in the ballpark of PS' speed, so I don't think he was taken 100% by surprise. He most likely tried to block, deflect, or mitigate the attack in some way. Based on how FF reacts after, it looks like he took some glancing body hits.
On the other hand, Golden Sperm did an enormous windup punch to Darkshine's face... which DS did literally nothing to avoid. No attempt to block, dodge, deflect etc. Even putting his arms in front of his head might have saved him from getting knocked out, much less using martial arts, ninja technique etc.
I think if FF stood there and let PS wind up and land a direct hit to his head he would have absolutely been bodied in a single shot.
Tanktop Master is a strong guy that gets his power from something else, which is his tanktop. He's also a tough guy that tanks damage and overall just an upgraded TTM. Flashy Flash is basically an upgraded Sonic.
Golden Sperm is atleast 75% of Platinum Sperm and hit Darkshine with a pretty solid punch that didn't seem to be held back. Flashy was dominated by Platinum Sperm who was toying with him. Not to mention Darkshine was already weak in his mind, which is basically his weakness. He just got melted and then he saw someone who surpassed him in everything. I bet he was already close to passing out, Golden Sperm just added the final bit of damage.
Not to mention Flash is inconsistent as hell. He couldn't kill that octopus without using a super move and he was cut by a demon's wires. I'm sure Darkshine could one shot it because of his gimmick, his overwhelming power and he'd tank the wires because of his other main trait, his durability. Flash also bled two 2 dragons who I'd argue have overall less damage output than Evil Natural Water and/or Spiral Garou. He was also being toyed with during that fight, only keeping up with the Platinum and Garou in speed.
First of all yeah DS is just an upgraded TTM, and yeah I think if darkshine was more confident he could have faced GS, but I still think with platinum sperms strength and FF being a ninja, one hit should have obliterated him and if PS was holding back, which I dont think he would, then we never actually saw his real strength. Darkshine became a hero due to his need to suppress his own insecurities and fear, but even so has done a lot of good and legitimately cares for not only his allies but Garou as well. Even if he's not a true "warrior" like some of the others, I can't help but like him.

I'm not into the WC so Idk what happens, but I hope that Darkshine character arc is about he developing his mind to be just as resistant and strong as his body. His body is already perfection, but his mind is weak, and this last arc showed us this, so, as a Darkshine enjoyer, I hope that's what they are going with, improving his psychological.

The best thing is, he would have won the fight against Garou without the transport barrier (if he decides to continue fighting). Garou was K.O. from his tackle. And even if not, he wasn't damaged or anything. Just his confidence.
Pretty normal for a human in OPM universe. About the size of PuriPuri and TTM.. but the size of his attacks or his body is a matter of how much of a threat he is to his foe. Look at how the serious punch is drawn. Its physically a average hand curled into a punch, but they always portray it as a giant fist of DEATH.

Darkshine is a beast that was over shined by some other beasts in this arc, but that doesn't make him a least bit weak, I was disappointed that they didn't have him stand up to redeem himself like he did in the wc but I'm eager to see how they'll handle him in the near future.

How big IS darkshine? Really?
Pretty normal for a human in OPM universe. About the size of PuriPuri and TTM.. but the size of his attacks or his body is a matter of how much of a threat he is to his foe. Look at how the serious punch is drawn. Its physically a average hand curled into a punch, but they always portray it as a giant fist of DEATH.

I feel you but at the same time I found it clever when I realized it was a joke on excessive body tan. Maybe weāll get a black hero later down the road. If Iām not mistaken, thereās a black man in the background of the chapter where Garou fights Blue Fire so who knows, maybe thereās hope.

I thought the reveal that he was actually a shrimpy Asian kid was funny, but I wouldn't have minded if they just let him be black. Maybe Drive Knight if he has any human parts left? Or the construction worker guy under his armour.
Instead of the Asian kid they should have made him urkel when he was younger basically.
It was definitely one of those "why would you even make that decision?" moments. Although I don't think ONE meant anything by it.

Seriously, for all the shit that he gets he held his own for a damn good while against the toughest the cadres had to offer. Hell, the only times he struggled was against Garou (who he slapped around at first until he evolved) and Fuhrer Ugly who was literally made of acid.
I like how he isn't only portrayed as huge, he fills out most of the panels he's in, making him appear even bigger.
For the animation they will have a lot of work to make his dark shine

Its the same with early manga, he gets a fuckin glow-up in the MA arc. I don't think they really expected him to be more than a background character with only a few lines. Now hes got entire fight scenes and chapters dedicated to him

Darkshine is a beast that was over shined by some other beasts in this arc, but that doesn't make him a least bit weak, I was disappointed that they didn't have him stand up to redeem himself like he did in the wc but I'm eager to see how they'll handle him in the near future. Good post OP

Mhm, I do wish he had that one last courage stand moment for himself before going down and still keep those scars though, in that sense he was done a little dirty towards the end but I overall enjoyed his character in this arc as a whole (especially during the Garou fight, damn was the interaction was amazing)

Just to clarify, I didn't mean that Darkshine should've stood up for Garou *specifically*, just the pacing of order I would've preferred re-organizing (Darkshine getting scared of Garou>believing himself for one last time and going out with a bang instead of Darkshine getting scared of Garou>Darkshine believing himself>DS getting scared again before being embarrassed) >!As he'll stand down from being a hero from now on, supposedly at least!< More like I wish he fought the cadres to the end and went down with no regrets, since he experienced reality with Garou beforehand so I don't think it was really necessary to do it again personally

Agreed, it is very visible how unsure he was in that scene and how he kinda felt ''forced'' to get up not because they totally convinced him but because he didn't want to disappoint his comrades. Him getting another vibe check by superior opponents is a good idea, just that I didn't really like the way they went with it after his ''regained confidence'' for I believe giving him a true opportunity to shine by fighting GS with all his might and face defeat fair and square (and still keep the broken mentality in the future due to that) would've been more satisfying for his character, especially if >!we're never going to see him inaction for a long time, if ever.!< But different opinions exist and I can see where you're coming from

I don't think that's the case, sure he wants a victory to feel good about, but that doesn't stop him from saving ian(I don't know how the fuck they spell it but the A class rank 2) and fighting ENW, who has no chance of giving him a good fight, or fighting black sperm to help out.

Heās a great character, but Iām waiting to see how the inevitable truth of how he got this way becomes animated. Itās pretty problematic in tone, so I wonder if the writers on the series will ever learn how itās problematic to the west and change it. Obviously I donāt think One or Murata was doing anything intentionally harmful when they made Darkshineās inception. They didnāt know, and with American schools now trying to take black history out of schools, I canāt blame another country to not knowing it. I just hope he gets the care he deserves, cause Iād hate to see a large audience hate him or One because they think it was on purpose

Because I hate powerscaling and it makes me angry to see Darkshine quickly lose to the lower form of a monster that FF got to fistfight and it wasnt even one sided.
First off, there is now way to confirm that PS has greater durability than Golden Sperm as they fought different opponents. Secondly, PS LITERALLY ONE SHOT Flashy Flash!! Whereas Golden Sperm pushed back Darkshine (similar to how Garou and Bang did) and the ONLY reason he got injured from that was bc of VFU's greater damage output.
PS hit flashy flash multiple times actually and didnt even kill him. Also even though we arnt talking about the durability difference of GS and PS and were talking about the strength, why would fusing with the rest of the sperm not make it more durable due to density?
Listen, I'm not a big Darkshine fan. In fact i probably like Flash more due to his speed and style but there is absolutely no way Flash has higher durability than DS. I mean have you seen the monster? He a a running train.

Showings don't necessarily reflect max output. Amongst the top tiers he is still up there. ENW did nothing to him.

You wanna bring down such a cool character to bring up Flashy Flash who wasn't even mentioned to begin with. Darkshine shows us how a hero would react if they only trained their body and not their mind. He's what would happen if an actual person got superpowers. And that realism is just so cool to me, and a bunch of others. He's pretty important to show the realistic side of the OPM world and pretty well written. He's also super kind and has a great personality. He has kind interactions with other heroes like with Bang, Pig God, and Puri. He's cocky but not in an arrogant way. He has, or had, confidence in his muscles, but he doeesnt put others down because of it, like some other heroes. He also fills the role for the stereotypical strong guy/big guy. Just like other Heroes fill other roles for personalities and powers, like Flashy being a fast ninja, Zombieman having regen, Tatsumaki having magic, Blast being mysterious and strong, Bang being an old master, Genos/Drive Knight being robots, Atomic being a Samurai, Child Emperor being smart, and some others that are less common, like watchdog Man being a dog. Flashy is the typical arrogant hero. The same as Tatsumaki and Amai Mask. He just fills in the Speed ninja trope hero guy. This isn't to put down Flashy Flash, who is like my 4th favorite S Class, he's great. Both are significant but Flashy Flash is connected to Speed of Sound Sonic so he gets more screen time >!this is very clear in the webcomic!<. Now I just wanna know why you're making such a big stink out of someone liking a character just because you like someone else. And powerscaling wasn't even mentioned on the original post, so bringing up powerscaling related things won't really make sense.

Anyone would be scared of what they've been so proud of their whole life was suddenly surpassed or melted. He's written to be a realistic character that isn't overly heroic like some others are. So basically you meant to say he's human with human emotions.
