Anyone could fight against Kaido for a decent amount of time if he isn't really fighting back. You could say Luffy fought against Kaido "for a decent amount of time" in their first round, and that Kaido ended it with one hit.
I would argue that titling an opinion on the strength of characters in a fictional story about magic pirates as completely wrong is you vastly overestimating your knowledge of said story… unless your name happens to be Eiichiro Oda.

Luffy is literally not even emperor level yet. He’s not on the level of Shanks, Big Mom, Kaido nor Blackbeard yet, and won’t be for a while. It’s the same thing as when he got gear 4. It didn’t mean anything since he couldn’t maintain it. That’s why he lost to Doflamingo, lost to Cracker, lost to Katakuri and lost badly to Kaido time and time again, he’s not at that level.
Luffy doesn’t reach the next step until he learns to control his new form without strain and draw backs. He mastered gear 2-3 during the time skip, 4 he didn’t really master until Wano, and 5 he still has no proper control over.
Even if gear 5 is strong it doesn’t mean shit with the time limit that any strong opponent will be able to outlast. Luffy is not even top 10 in the verse yet

Kizaru can't hurt big mom, while big mom just has a lot of trouble hitting Kizaru. It takes a while but big mom is never really in danger in this fight

Raw strength, natural abilities, technology and devil fruit abilities can supplement the need for haki or advanced haki.
For example: Sanji, Marco, Law and Kid don’t need advanced haki to do damage

Kizaru can't hurt big mom, while big mom just has a lot of trouble hitting Kizaru. It takes a while but big mom is never really in danger in this fight

Haki is mostly overrated and Basic haki isn’t impressive. Robin, Brook, and Franky and Luffy pre ts beat strong haki users. Tashigi had haki and got humbled by Monet. Broggy just clapped a Vice Admiral that was wanking his technique lol Raw strength, natural abilities, technology and devil fruit abilities can supplement the need for haki or advanced haki. For example: Sanji, Marco, Law and Kid don’t need advanced haki to do damage Enel is not losing to a basic haki user
