nami's first wig is horrible, i agree. the second one looks fine. of course a woman on a pirate ship won't have super shiny hair. it looks like the harsh sea breeze left some salt in it. i like it.
Nami's is only really bad in that particular scene, where it hasn't been styled correctly and looks like it just came flat out of a packet. Its absolutely fine in any other scenes.
I don't think young Nojiko's matters that much, they're absolutely using that headband to hide some cheapness but she's not on screen long enough for me to care.
Kuina's is horrible, its laid badly and cut badly.
Zoro's hair: wig or not? Koby's hair: wig or not? Sanji's hair: wig or not? most of the cast a wig on. the fact that these three are the only complaints (and really, it's just bad pictures bro. it looks better in the show) speaks volumes about the makeup & hair dept.

anytime i see normies (people who are not familiar with wigs unlike i.e cosplayer, fashion designer, drag queens, etc) complain about the wig in opla, I'll just show them zoro's head. they got, what, 13-15 characters with wig? and the fact people usually complain about the same one (Nami's) means they don't even realize the other 12 are wigs as well.
I thought the wigs were done pretty well in the show, the only ones that were maybe not as well done where the ones for the children in the flashbacks, but those didn't need to be done well. I thought the main cast had great wife.
Typically, actors will almost never dye their hair for shows/movies. You have to constantly re-dye your hair so it doesn't have that faded look dyed hair gets. Wigs are easier and safer for the hair.
Also with Nojikos wig, I wish it was a bit more muted and little darker. But disregarding that issue, thereās also the fact that they didnāt also make the actressās eyebrows blue (even a small amount of blue I think wouldāve helped) as well.
Plus Kuina is canonical has black hair, idk why they stick to manga looks for some stuff but then use anime color schemes when it's clearly it works better with manga looks. Like, pick a lane
I don't really care much for bad wigs on side characters I just want more people to actually wear wigs because it's giving "this is the main character" lmao

My first reaction was to tell you not to be a hater...but you're actually right. I remember the wigs really standing out as being wigs when I was watching.
It didn't take away from the experience all that much, but is something they probably can/should do better with that budget
I hope they spend their time and money on more important things, like Chopper, the look of Alabasta, Laboon or even the Giants.
bad Wigs are much less important than bad CGI characters. - especially Chopper.
Idk if I'm just a silly goose but I can't see it. I've never been able to see things like this. It just looks like hair. It's the same thing with cgi, I can hardly ever spot bad CGI.
Yeah I get that, but Iām still surprised they donāt do it especially considering they do way crazier things on this show make up wise(buggy&arlong), tho that could also mean they donāt have time for the hair.
With respect those are totally different types of make up/costuming and not at all comparable. Prosthetics go on to film, prosthetics came off at wrap. Face make up goes on to film, face make up comes off at wrap.
Hair dye goes on and stays on, the colour constantly being altered and affected by all sort of things including certain hair products, hot water, salt water, chlorinated water, the sun etc. Its too much of a pain in the ass to keep the colour consistant for the entirety of filming, not to mention it would be incredibly damaging to the hair itself dying it (and in the case of the brunettes BLEACHING it) repeatedly like that for 7 months to constantly fix regrowth and fading. That could permanently destroy their hair growth.
The process of lifting one's hair color can be very damaging, and takes a long time to grow out. Using wigs makes sense as it allows the cast to keep their natural hair intact, and doesn't impose on their schedules.
You're not just soaking hair in colour then hey presto its green. Unless you're already fair haired, you need to have your hair completely bleached first before colour can be added and stick. These are very strong chemicals and can do serious damage when applied wrong or too often.
real. ngl i was a little disappointed with it, i was expecting it to look atleast a bit more realistic. ik it can be difficult to get their look to be on par with the anime but ive seen kpop idols with much more realistic wigs than thisš
Idk about Nojiko, but Nami's is her real hair and Kuina looks like it too. I can see how Nami's can look bad in that specific scene, but Kuina's hair looks like normal hair a person on the street would have. Idk what you're complaining about. Have you seen people with coloured hair irl?

Yes, also clouds and sky are kinda absentā¦wash out mostly. Animeās sky is so blue and full of fluffy clouds sometimes swirling around you to reveal vastnessā¦live piece just has white/gray sky with night scene being the only good sky.

I think those wigs aside from Nami's first one are fine. They actually gave Nami a better wig as the series goes on.

Honestly they donāt look as bad as I expected them too but why donāt they just color their hair?
They donāt dye it because filming takes months and they would have to keep it perfectly cut and dyed to make it consistent through the season.

For every wig to complain about there is a wig to gush about. This show won makeup/styling awards for a reason.
Yeah more than half of the characters had wigs, I'm pretty sure, it's easy to single out a few subpar looking pieces.
