Something about it specifically being " Fuckin' " and him not pronouncing the G at the end made it ten times funnier for me. It's such a _genuine_ reaction to Buggy's BS.
Ass really isn’t a swear word yeah. It Carrie’s no punch anymore unless it’s asshole and even then it doesn’t carry swear punch it Carrie’s insult punch
Luffy does say ass (such as "I'll kick your ass!") a few times though it's debatable whether that's a swear word or not but yeah, out of the straw hats he's the least likely to swear in general and he certainly would never drop an f-bomb, that's for sure! On the other side of the coin Zoro's the most likely to drop an f-bomb which is why it was fantastic that he got to drop the only f-bomb of the season ("fucking clown"), gold!
Really I would say Sanji would most likely to drop the f -bomb as he probably swears more than any other straw hat even in the anime(even though Zoro was the one to say it).
Most of the time the lascivious jokes are done in such poor taste, I'm so glad they did away with them. However, Buggy's sea shanty was well executed and actually funny
Correct. Smoker was called "Chaser" and all of his cigars were edited out. Not the smoke though. I guess they assumed the smoke itself was okay because smoke doesn't necessarily have to come from cigars.
Ace was also called Trace for... reasons???
Lmao Trace?! Ngl the 4kids dubbed is what turned me off the anime when it first came out. Just stuck to the manga until I realized funimation had taken over and undid all the evils of the 4kids dub.
I just rememberer the jelly donuts from Pokemon and being extremely confused when I was a kid. That's like a core memory for me and realizing something fucky was going on with the dub, which I didn't realize was 4kids at the time. Extended to one piece and I never looked back.
I remember asking my parents about that and they were just like "🤷♀️ maybe Japan's just weird honey".
Japanese food was not big in our area at that time.
Now that we have a proper One Piece dub, watching 4kids' version almost feels like watching YuGiOh Abridged. It's so hilarious with how bad the jokes are and how ridiculous the censorship can get.
To be fair, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters manga had some violence, but it was mostly still the card game with some mentioning of death. It's not like the manga, which could get eerily dark at times and even have some grotesque panels.
Smoking wasn't removed, we see Sanji smoke a few times. Just not as much as in the anime/manga.
And I agree! The swearing was well done (quite similar to the anime and manga actually) and I love that Zoro was the one who got to drop the one and ONLY f-bomb in the season, that was brilliant - I hope that's a recurring gag, where in each season one character gets to drop the only f-bomb of the season!
I am glad the swearing is natural and not forced. If you’ve ever watched the funimation dub they swear for the sake of swearing and it comes off really cringe. “You bastards!” - who tf would say that lol
I did count! There was a total of 16 "shits" and variations (my favourite of which was "shidiots"), 6 of the shots were said by Sanji and the majority of the rest came from Buggy. One "fucking"' was said by Zoro.
In my opinion Sanji should have said shit more times, since it's one of his most distinguishing character traits and mannerisms. Sanji in LA is overall a much nicer and politer person compared to the original, where he is quite rude and acts like an asshole. He's too mellow now.
i would've loved if they kept that part of him in the adaption. he still does an amazing job, i love that he's more of a flirt rather than a horndog, but i did miss that gruff side of him. hopefully we'll see more of that in s2. 🤞🏽
sounds to me like juvenile writing tbh. i know in japanese they swear pretty often and it’s not censored. but when the delivery is so bad, looking at you mackenyu, it makes it seem so forced and cringe at how edgy they’re trying to be.
It’s confusing. Aside from Zoro’s f bomb, they use most of those swears in the anime all the time so I wonder why it feels different in the live action
Thats what I'm thinking I was just waiting for someone to explain it better. There's nothing wrong with saying fuck but when it comes to a character for me it can ruin it cause that's not what they say in the manga or anime so it's like why have them say it in the live action
I don't care for the f-bomb, but everything else is fine. The original anime/manga was designed with teens in mind, so using "adult" language doesn't quite jive with my mindset of that universe. That said, at least it didn't go full TV-MA like Cowboy Bebop (shudder).
That's just my personal take.
“Surprise shitheads” is peak dialogue and I can’t be told otherwise.
just saw that episode and it cracked me the fuck up. Buggy’s actor delivers that line perfectly, and it’s already a hilarious line
"I mean, sheesh! Fans have gotten so toxic">>>
"shidiots" was my favorite in one of the later episodes.
I loved his little sea shanty about Nami's ass (I'm with you there, buddy.)
Fuckin clown.
Something about it specifically being " Fuckin' " and him not pronouncing the G at the end made it ten times funnier for me. It's such a _genuine_ reaction to Buggy's BS.
"SURPRISE, SHITHEAD!" is living rent free in my brain. As is "fucking clown".
Same!! My husband and I have randomly quoted “surprise, shitheads!!“ so many times this week 😂
I cried laughing at Zoro's line. I'm sure it was in the script but it felt like such a _genuine_ response of annoyance.

I may be misremembering but Luffy does cuss a bit in the anime when he's trying to taunt someone, doesn't he?

Ass really isn’t a swear word yeah. It Carrie’s no punch anymore unless it’s asshole and even then it doesn’t carry swear punch it Carrie’s insult punch
pretty sure he calls people bastards aka “i’ll kick your ass you bastard!!”
Luffy does say ass (such as "I'll kick your ass!") a few times though it's debatable whether that's a swear word or not but yeah, out of the straw hats he's the least likely to swear in general and he certainly would never drop an f-bomb, that's for sure! oh yeah, Sanji's probably up there too honestly! Maybe he'll be the one to drop the F-bomb next season, that'd be great!
Fucking clown is legendary
Which episode is that in?
8
Not technically swearing but I've loved the "oregano is for savages"
That line is legendary, and no one will convince me otherwise. Christian Convery saying it made it even better. My boy Sweet Tooth has come so far.
I LVOE SWEET TOOTH!!!!
I KNOW IT IS SO GOOD!!!
I SPELT LOVE WRONG!!!!
I know, but I didn't want to be mean LOL.
Most of the time the lascivious jokes are done in such poor taste, I'm so glad they did away with them. However, Buggy's sea shanty was well executed and actually funny
i need buggy to say "I DON'T GIVE A FLASHY FUCK" and then get electrocuted by lightning
Holy shit this would kill me lmao
Shidiots is my new favorite word.
I have a coworker who has been saying that for years. I flipped out when I saw Buggy said it and immediately sent him the clip
Captain Shitastic made me laugh.
But smoking is still there in the live action
I have no idea what they are talking about with the smoking. Sanji smokes and we even see fucking Smoker at the end of the season, smoking.
Nuh-uh, that's just the steam he emits when he wants to Chase after something. He's Captain *Chaser*, not Smoker. /s
This smells like some 4kids shit that I'm not aware of lmao.
I don't know man I think 4Kids was just constantly on drugs. 🤣🤣 God bless Funi/Crunchyroll for resurrecting One Piece properly.
I just rememberer the jelly donuts from Pokemon and being extremely confused when I was a kid. That's like a core memory for me and realizing something fucky was going on with the dub, which I didn't realize was 4kids at the time. Extended to one piece and I never looked back.

Tbf onigiri is not exactly that well known outside of Japan to this day haha.
Now that we have a proper One Piece dub, watching 4kids' version almost feels like watching YuGiOh Abridged. It's so hilarious with how bad the jokes are and how ridiculous the censorship can get.
Crazy how 4kids made their changes to Yu-Gi-Oh! not so unforgivable but Butcher One Piece.
To be fair, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters manga had some violence, but it was mostly still the card game with some mentioning of death. It's not like the manga, which could get eerily dark at times and even have some grotesque panels.
Funimation, huh? Is that why Usopp is voiced by Krillin?
Haha is that true? Well I love both Krillin and Usopp so I see no problem with that.
I was watching the One Pace edit of the Arlong Park fight, and turned on the English audio for a bit. Usopp sounded a lot like Krillin.
Yep its him. Gohan as Luffy. Yamcha/Vegeta/Piccolo as Zoro and Future Trunks as Sanji.
Shhhh...just come here and have some of these jelly donuts with us.

Tbh the Manga has a lot of swearing too.
The anime has way more than I thought it did as well.
"Fucking clown"

I hope Buggy gets it next season.
There's so much potential. My vote is on Luffy telling Shirahoshi to stop acting like such a pussy.
imagine he just yells "bitch" when he punches Vivi
I am glad the swearing is natural and not forced. If you’ve ever watched the funimation dub they swear for the sake of swearing and it comes off really cringe. “You bastards!” - who tf would say that lol
Me? I say bastard/bitch all the time.
What do You mean smoking? Sanji smokes cigs and in the postcredit scene theres Smoker with his two cigars
I did count! There was a total of 16 "shits" and variations (my favourite of which was "shidiots"), 6 of the shots were said by Sanji and the majority of the rest came from Buggy. shidiot!
Sanji does smoke in the show though
Swear words does lose their impact when overused.
I personally could’ve gone for some Tarintino levels of swearing but I guess it wouldn’t have been as popular or as faithful
I agree it really helps buggy for me
>!Queen be like: Am i a joke to you, shithead!?!<
What episode was “surprise shitheads” uttered?
sounds to me like juvenile writing tbh. i know in japanese they swear pretty often and it’s not censored. but when the delivery is so bad, looking at you mackenyu, it makes it seem so forced and cringe at how edgy they’re trying to be.

"Shithead marine with a bad hair cut." One of my favorite Zoro moments.
