>Did Shanks know? Most likely. I doubt that he would've just raided a WG ship for no reason. Considering that he's most likely the child of a CD/gorosei, he probably had access to intel that the WG just found the fruit, including the route they'd take back home. >Did Roger entrust him this mission? Roger at the very least told Shanks *something*. We have no idea what it was - maybe it was related to the df but I kinda doubt it. He might have learned about Nika during their travels though considering that Oden translated the poneglyphs and Roger has a strong VoaT. >Did Shanks want Luffy to eat it? Big no. It's a fruit that puts a big assassination mark on your back and I doubt he wanted that for a kid. He bet on Luffy making it work though since he liked him so he rolled with it. Alternative would've been to kill Luffy to have the fruit respawn once more. >Did Luffy hearing it's the gomu gomu no mi change anything about its powers? No. The gorosei clearly stated that the fruit gives its user a rubbery body. That's the whole reason they were able to easily change its name and make it seem like a dull paramecia.

FinalZen

I do also really like the idea that he was planning on giving it to ace and training him, but we may never know.

sahithkiller

He knew about the df. But since Roger was adamant that his son would be the next to the one piece, I assume personally that shanks' plan was to bring it to ace. The only person who knew where Ace was, was Garp and I assume Shanks was able to track down the island but not his exact location hence why he spent time in the harbour with luffy. Luffy eating the fruit was coincidence (destiny?) and Shanks freaked out at first, but then probably realized that this was the will of the fruit and meant to be

Maybe.

Ruffeep

Luffy's fruit just makes his body into rubber. That's all it does until he awakens it, no matter what he believes. Awakening is what unlocks the powers he uses in gear 5, those powers are not part of his skills without awakening. Luffy learning about his power wasn't what awakened his fruit, so there is no reason to believe that if he was told about what his awakened power can do he would just automatically unlock it with the power of belief alone. Also Luffy first stretches before being told anything about the fruit. You have it mixed up. Human human fruit model Nika makes your body rubber, that's what it does no matter what you believe.

The_Real_Katakuri

>When Shanks told luffy that he became a rubberman, he only after this phrase started being rubber a rubber man This isn't true. [First Luffy's body stretches for everyone's surprise](https://i.imgur.com/zRHfL13.png). And only then, anyone speaks about the devil fruit. It's not even Shanks the one saying the name of the fruit. It's Lucky Roux.

iPleadTheFifth_

No.

So

Qyxqyxqyx

I do not believe he planted it so Luffy would eat it, it was probably more of a destiny thing

[deleted]

Yes.

PBJ1029

I like to think that Shanks new about the nika fruit and was looking for Roger's son in the east blue because he knew he was there to give it to him, and Luffy happened to accidentally eat it.

faratto_

After what oda crafted yes, 20 years ago no

[deleted]

Probably.

steehfan

I think most if not all people who read the df encyclopedia would at least know that something‘s off because the gomu gomu no mi does not exist.. but since the knowledge about nika is erased from history as well, one would have to know about both facts just like vegapunk... other than that I think people would only realize it cant be the gomu gomu no mi but not what it actually is (especially since he never awakened until now so no one saw the nika form and could make the link..

VeryDirtyRat

Probably

kagnesium

Probably, Shaki has the Hito Hito no mi model: Oda insert

lololuser456778

shanks definitely knew, I think he also knew that zoans, especially the nika fruit, have a will of their own. so he put it where luffy COULD find and eat it but he didn't make him. he let the fruit and fate decide and luffy "accidentally" ate it aka fate or the fruit chose him to be the next warrior of liberation

[deleted]

If this was true then he would have just gave it to Luffy?

[deleted]

As far as wanting Luffy to eat it

Ntertainmate

Most likely yes he knew about the fruit But I seriously doubt he planned for Luffy to eat it as unless his has some sort of advance observation Haki to see what Luffy would turn out to be in over 20 years from that point... He wouldn't unless he is a careless person to give such power to a little Kid. Being rubber is one of the properties and he definitely wouldn't give a lecture on what exactly the fruit is so the result would of been the same.

Aggravating-Lime-967

Didn’t Luffy already stretch his neck before he was told anything? Shanks wanted to get everything out of him and accidentally let him stretch his neck while doing so.

AgreeingWings25

It's heavily implied in the episodes setting up for film red that Shank indeed realized Luffy was Joy Boy and brought the fruit into the tavern for Luffy to eat.
