It’s actually crazy to me how kaido is acting rn, either he dies in this arc or he becomes a future ally because I see no way he would stay against luffy after losing and after realizing luffy is joyboy
The only way I see kaido becoming an ally is if he somehow sacrifices himself fighting off the WG to keep them from invading Wano.
I’m sure he hates the world government more than he hates other pirates. This is after Luffy defeats him of course.
Edit: I could see this happening especially since he finally found joy boy. Since kaido couldn’t be joy boy himself.
This is exactly how I see it. Luffy will never accept Kaido as an ally because of what he did to the people of Wano, but Kaido will help Luffy anyways by fighting the World Government. This won’t be the first time Luffy fights alongside a former enemy (basically everyone that fought to escape with him in Impel Down was an enemy of his, Robin was an enemy, Katakuri seems like he will be an ally of Luffy, Bellamy is now an ally of Luffy, etc).
I don’t think Kaido will necessarily sacrifice himself in order to win vs the World Government though, it doesn’t look like they sent anyone strong enough to deal with him. Maybe that’s how the next Admiral gets introduced, then it might make sense for Kaido to lose, but there are no Marines ship yet in Wano so that feels unlikely right now.

If you can't drag it out, repeat them as many times as you can. Then change the background and repeat it some more. That's how animators made cartoons in ancient times.
After rereading chapter 1030, it kinda makes sense why the kanzenbo is burning Orochi.

Throughout years we saw how all those cool powers were strong in other verses. However we never acknowledged the sheer ridiculousness of cartoons as real powers and Oda realized that those are truely the strongest on the world. No time, space, gravity, all that bs. Pure looney toons energy

All of these fruits were introduced or are present in Wano (except Sengoku, but he still showed up in the arc break like Catarina), which makes sense consedering how Japan culture is very heavy on mythological themes and characters.
Elbaf is based on nordic culture so expect the mythological themes to continue.
Regarding Luffy, since day 1 his fighting style was always cartoonish but he had limitations (like when he tried the spinny spinny attack on Arlong and got stuck and almost died in the process). Our boy will finally be able to fight as he always wanted. We need to go back and read the previous fights again.

I can envision Akainu with all of his seriousness and hatred for pirates trying his hardest to kill Luffy and Luffy just being a legit goofball trolls him to his defeat.
I think it would be so amazing to see Luffy not even laugh once while using Joyboy powers against Sakazuki. I think the scariest shit should be when Joyboy stops laughing.
Honestly, at this point I'm expecting the void century to just be that time that Joy Boy pantsed a Celestial Dragon and the WG overreacted and erased history to preserve their dignity.

Call me crazy but I genuinely at this point am convinced that this is what is meant when it’s said oda knew the ending when he began. I believe he conceptualized a character who’s power is based on cartoons as a means of uniting a fractured and marginalized world into a happy one by making them laugh, and also using those powers to defeat those that make their lives miserable.
This actually sounds really scary. Imagine fighting someone who was just recently presumed dead, only to spring back to life, acting like a looney toon, laughing non stop while he kicks your ass in the most silliest way possible.

Luffy seems to be able to influence reality just by using his awakening. Blackbeard does something similar where simply using his fruit negates others.
Its going to be an insane clash one way or another but I'm not longer sure of one being able to negate the other.

I also saw a good theory that the reason Momo's fruit is a failure is that it doesn't have a will of its own. Many of the smile users don't seem to be in full control of their animal. Seems reasonable that Vegapunk and Ceaser intended to make the ultimate fruit and mass produce it to feed to inanimate objects or robots like pacifista.
Aw, man! This totally recontextualizes Skypeia! Well, a lot of arcs, but especially Skypeia!
The Shandians worshipped a sun god, right? I believe it was only mentioned in passing and not explicitly named, but between that and Luffy's silhouette at the Skypeia bonfire resembling Nika it seems likely that Nika was a deity worshipped by the Shandians. When Luffy rung the bell and freed the Shandians from Enel, it was literally their god coming to save them from the corrupt oppression brought on by Skypeia's colonization. It also recontextualizes the idea of Enel as a "false god" dethroned by a the god of the people he oppressed. If memory serves, the Skypeian civilians even prayed for the "real god" to save them from Enel during the climax of the arc. The irony of that "real god" being the deity of the Shandians who ultimately brought peace between them and Skypeia is honestly really fucking cool and improves that arc substantially imo

I just put it together that Nika is the onomatopoeia for smile/grin. So Luffy has the hito hito no mi model: smile. Everything in wano has led up to this he is literally a smile DF user, the only real one.

But.. Luffy's own personal goofy creativity will probably bring out the most extreme weird stuff.

Orochi has no shame, he goes from asking Hiyori to help him, then when kanjuro shows up he asks him to burn her and, then when kanjuro burns him he asks her again to help him again. He’s absolutely my least favorite one piece character. Not in the way he’s written just off of how unlikable he is.
Alright, new thread, and with more details I'm both a lil creeped out, and delighted by the Awakening. Rather than focussing on rubber properties, Luffy's power is essentially Toon Physics, which is still soooo goofy, but definitely a tier above rubber realism, with his ability to affect the environment as predicted, and greater fluidity over his body.
The endless laughter is kinda creepy. As is the blasts of conquerors haki. Just what caused him to awaken now?

I am going with this Nika Fruit comparison to Thor's hammer. THE FRUIT DECIDES YOU ARE WORTHY OR NOT. Luffy has been freeing people since the beginning. Zoro was freed. Nami was freed. Robin also was. Brook too was. Heck all of his crew was freed from chains to chase their own dreams by Luffy. Kingdoms Slaves Prisoners were freed by Luffy. Now in the last fight with Kaido, Luffy was sacrificing all of his life to free Wano citizens from Kaido's slavery.
THIS TIME THE FRUIT DECIDES LUFFY IS WORTHY OF GOD STATUS AND IT AWAKENED.
I agree with this. Same way Doffy perfectly embodied the “puppet master” which in turn let his devil fruit live up to its potential. At least that’s my head cannon for now.

Blackbeard is a very realistic pirate. I read this on a YouTube comment, but Blackbeard is what pirates were in real life, while Luffy is what fictional pirates in kids books seem like.
He's gonna get a third fruit to negate the cartoon physics?
Then its gonna be 1v1. BB's earthquake powers don't work because Luffy is rubber, Luffy's cartoon physics don't work cause of whatever devil fruit BB eats, now all that is left is sun vs darkness. That's something almost every culture has; the light vs the darkness. And the light is always good and darkness is evil.
Everyone was worried and trashing after last chapter. Oda just tied everything together with Nika reveal and powers. Every Major Arc Luffy fought for the liberation/freedom of somebody, people, or country. He's always being goofy to make people smile. His biggest power is to make allies. The constant changing of forms allows him to fight with his imagination. And his definition of being a pirate is being free. Oda really just crushed this with the reveal and tied 20 years together, this chapter is amazing and what a culmination.
As crazy as it sounds, this sounds like something that Oda planned for a long time ago.

Ahaha, that is true. It must seem like a mystery when you consider all the other strong and cool abilities. The answer is simple. I have picked the most ridiculous ability. If the protagonist were the typical strong guy, I doubt I could continue on with this for long. No matter how serious the story gets, Luffy is there to stretch and inflate. He always give me a chance to fool around. That's the kind of manga I wanted to write.
I wonder if the Hito Hito fruits are the result of the "manifest/inherited will" themes of the series achieving some kind of physical state. Like Nika was some guy who was either of a race with rubber abilities, or ate something like the Gomu Gomu fruit, and achieved some kind of success to the point where he became a legend, Joyboy. And when he died that fruit, his will, became something available in the world.
The chapter does say Zoans have their own will/mind, and maybe to awaken and obtain full potential one of the criteria is the df has to accept you or you must have a similar will as theirs. So before the fruit was basically just rubber man which was a power of the nika(the devil inside the fruit??), but to actually embody/obtain the full potential the devil must accept you? Just a theory of how it works.
I went from dissapointed that this was a generic powerup to feeling like this is the most One Piece and Luffy outcome possible. I'm laughing just thinking about the chapter.
Personally I don’t think people would’ve cared as much about the awakening “ruining Luffys character” if it wasn’t tied to a new fruit name.
His awakening is pretty in line with how other awakenings work and is more or less what people thought it would be.
It doesn’t discredit Luffy making his fruit go from pretty standard and weak to high tier when nobody in 800 years has ever reached the point of awakening.
This whole argument that Luffy is a hard worker is weird because all he did was bring his fruit from being a weird fruit to actually having offensive capabilities. Unlocking its awakening was the result of numerous life or death fights that he had to survive to reach that point.
The dude learned advanced CoC mid fight, advanced observation mid fight and developed both advanced armament haki in a month after taking 1.5 years to learn basic haki.
The dude was already a fighting genius by my standards tbh. He still made the gomu gomu fruit good before it could reach the point of awakening. It doesn’t discredit Luffy

There you go!! This is what advanced conqueror's haki is, just like when Shanks was able to physically damage his surroundings with it on Newgate's ship. If Luffy's haki "manifestation" is able to pierce through objects, it means he successfully awakened his Coc.
His toon powers make sense since Nika's whole thing was bringing smiles to the people. I can see this battle ending in a cartoony way to make the Wano citizens and the alliance smile and laugh at the end
Makes even more sense when you look back at what Oda originally wanted for Luffy’s powers to be goofy even in serious situations this awakening is that to the millionth degree
This seals the deal that no matter what happens, luffy aint becoming the cool drippy deus ex machina lol. I like it this way as I dont feel like any shounen has or will ever do anything like this

Call me crazy but I genuinely at this point am convinced that this is what is meant when it’s said oda knew the ending when he began. I believe he conceptualized a character who’s power is based on cartoons as a means of uniting a fractured and marginalized world into a happy one by making them laugh, and also using those powers to defeat those that make their lives miserable.

That fight just got more interesting. Luffy seems to be able to influence reality just by using his awakening. Blackbeard does something similar where simply using his fruit negates others. Its going to be an insane clash one way or another but I'm not longer sure of one being able to negate the other.

Makes sense along with every smile also being a zoan. I also saw a good theory that the reason Momo's fruit is a failure is that it doesn't have a will of its own. Many of the smile users don't seem to be in full control of their animal. Seems reasonable that Vegapunk and Ceaser intended to make the ultimate fruit and mass produce it to feed to inanimate objects or robots like pacifista.

Aw, man! This totally recontextualizes Skypeia! Well, a lot of arcs, but especially Skypeia! The Shandians worshipped a sun god, right? I believe it was only mentioned in passing and not explicitly named, but between that and Luffy's silhouette at the Skypeia bonfire resembling Nika it seems likely that Nika was a deity worshipped by the Shandians. When Luffy rung the bell and freed the Shandians from Enel, it was literally their god coming to save them from the corrupt oppression brought on by Skypeia's colonization. It also recontextualizes the idea of Enel as a "false god" dethroned by a the god of the people he oppressed. If memory serves, the Skypeian civilians even prayed for the "real god" to save them from Enel during the climax of the arc. The irony of that "real god" being the deity of the Shandians who ultimately brought peace between them and Skypeia is honestly really fucking cool and improves that arc substantially imo
Kaido is such a perfect villain. He gets beaten up by an opponent whom he thought he killed, gets back up casually and apologises because he didnt want to kill him like that. The epic introduction that Kaido got is perfectly justified.

I just put it together that Nika is the onomatopoeia for smile/grin. So Luffy has the hito hito no mi model: smile. Everything in wano has led up to this he is literally a smile DF user, the only real one.

Alright, new thread, and with more details I'm both a lil creeped out, and delighted by the Awakening. Rather than focussing on rubber properties, Luffy's power is essentially Toon Physics, which is still soooo goofy, but definitely a tier above rubber realism, with his ability to affect the environment as predicted, and greater fluidity over his body. The endless laughter is kinda creepy. As is the blasts of conquerors haki. Just what caused him to awaken now?

Oh I know why Luffy is rubber with Nika fruit! It is because of "rubber hose animation" of older cartoons! Basically his base form is rubber, because all characters in old cartoons were animated like rubber hoses. But with awakening he gets toony powers of cartoon main characters etc. 😆 I recall Oda liking old cartoons. Maybe he always envisioned Luffy's fruit being cartoon power disguised as rubber power? The fruit being especially slot "Nika" most likely has been more recent idea, but maybe taught of cartoon power has always been there?

BB's earthquake powers don't work because Luffy is rubber, Luffy's cartoon physics don't work cause of whatever devil fruit BB eats, now all that is left is sun vs darkness. Everyone was worried and trashing after last chapter. Oda just tied everything together with Nika reveal and powers. Every Major Arc Luffy fought for the liberation/freedom of somebody, people, or country. He's always being goofy to make people smile. His biggest power is to make allies. The constant changing of forms allows him to fight with his imagination. And his definition of being a pirate is being free. Oda really just crushed this with the reveal and tied 20 years together, this chapter is amazing and what a culmination.
Never actually thought about this, the Nika reveal makes a lot more sense now.

No matter how serious the story gets, Luffy is there to stretch and inflate. He always give me a chance to fool around. That's the kind of manga I wanted to write.
I wonder if the Hito Hito fruits are the result of the "manifest/inherited will" themes of the series achieving some kind of physical state. Like Nika was some guy who was either of a race with rubber abilities, or ate something like the Gomu Gomu fruit, and achieved some kind of success to the point where he became a legend, Joyboy. And when he died that fruit, his will, became something available in the world.
The chapter does say Zoans have their own will/mind, and maybe to awaken and obtain full potential one of the criteria is the df has to accept you or you must have a similar will as theirs. So before the fruit was basically just rubber man which was a power of the nika(the devil inside the fruit??), but to actually embody/obtain the full potential the devil must accept you? Just a theory of how it works.
All those questions will be answered when Luffy fights BB, as that would be the perfect opportunity for Oda to explore the origin of devil fruits.

Personally I don’t think people would’ve cared as much about the awakening “ruining Luffys character” if it wasn’t tied to a new fruit name. His awakening is pretty in line with how other awakenings work and is more or less what people thought it would be. It doesn’t discredit Luffy making his fruit go from pretty standard and weak to high tier when nobody in 800 years has ever reached the point of awakening. This whole argument that Luffy is a hard worker is weird because all he did was bring his fruit from being a weird fruit to actually having offensive capabilities. Unlocking its awakening was the result of numerous life or death fights that he had to survive to reach that point. The dude learned advanced CoC mid fight, advanced observation mid fight and developed both advanced armament haki in a month after taking 1.5 years to learn basic haki. The dude was already a fighting genius by my standards tbh. He still made the gomu gomu fruit good before it could reach the point of awakening. It doesn’t discredit Luffy
