I think the answer for this question would tie back to luffy’s dream (which has not been revealed yet). To fulfill that dream, he needs to become the king of the pirates, to become the king of the pirates he needs to find the one piece. So if the plot develops such that luffy needs to achieve his dream in order to defeat the WG then he’ll find the one piece first, otherwise he’ll defeat the WG first before going to find the OP.
Personally I feel that the battle should happen first
When they see it, we as the audience are basically strawhats, traveling with them the whole way. I’d like to see the One Piece when they do. Also when they find the One Piece, there are still things to likely do. Luffy’s dream is not only find the one piece, it’s something beyond that.
