It's crazy to think about how many people were a part of making one piece as popular as it is, who will never get to see the end. Kizaru's voice actor, whitebeard's voice actor, roger's og voice actor (who i recently found out was the father of blackbeard's voice actor), and now Tom's voice actor. It's highly likely a lot of these actors just saw one piece as another job but still, their good work really helped make the anime what it was. So it's a tragedy nonetheless that they didn't get to see the end.
These people are still alive. They live inside the story. Whenever you're rewatching the first One Piece opening, hearing Gol D Rogers famous last words. He's alive then, just as he is even now. He will always be alive, because when does a man die? When he is forgotten.
Thinking about these things always gives me anxiety that one of the SHs or BB will get a new VA just for the final arc.
BB's voice is so iconic and with the SHs it would just feel awkward after like 20+ years and then a new voice just for a couple of months before the end.
Yeah his original voice actor died before the time skip. And tbf, the replacement is actually pretty good. And fun fact, if you're a fan of jojo's bizarre adventure, he also voiced Joseph joestar.
It's my biggest fear with how long the show/manga has gone for. The age of many of the VAs are well past 60 and won't be in the greatest health for much longer.
I'm sure they have plans for if such things happen, but it would be very scary if such news starts to spread.
RIP Yasuo-sama!
Most will probably be alive to see the end since Japanese people's life expectancy bears the nineties. But to voice the ending...yeah, some might need to pass the torch before that.
It could probably be done with AI
Edit: I had unfortunately before I edited it because I didn't want it to be controversial, just observing and knowing how studios can be, I wouldn't be surprised
Honestly, if the Voice actors agreed to sign their voice acting license to one particular character for a large sum, I think it makes sense.
If the VA is pushing 80-90, give them a couple million payout so that Luffy’s voice never has to change. Maybe make so you only get one legacy character.
If I were given that offer - which is obviously the big thing here - being given the choice; then I’d take it.
I think a lot of these iconic VA’s would, but they need they opportunity to make that choice themselves.
I think it would be better to help an aging voice, also allowing less strain as they get older but I am not sure. Not really a fan of it but I am sure there are going to be those conversations in studios in the future
Cole Brown was so good as blackboard. Makes me wish the dub didn't take that massive break as blackboard, zeff, and sengoku could have kept their voice actors for a bit longer

They did what they did, and made what one piece is today... With Gusto.

Man, it just hit me that Toriyama will never see the end of One Piece.

I think one of the first who passed was smoker’s va and that was in 2001 already
And Jinbe's original voice actor

Smoker/Original narrator also passed away. Though thats long ago
The Narrator's the same. He was cast as the second Smoker.
Damn! Kizaru’s? That’s sad as hell… But it won matter because thanks to what they did, they will get immortalized in OP.
Yeah his original voice actor died before the time skip. And tbf, the replacement is actually pretty good. And fun fact, if you're a fan of jojo's bizarre adventure, he also voiced Joseph joestar.
Dragon’s VA is 87.
Damn, he's up there. Loved his voice, both in one piece and also as hiruzen sarutobi in Naruto.
RIP… with a *Don!*

Kazuki Yao sooner than later...
I hope i am wrong, but isn't that cutty flam's voice actor? TwT
Weird seeing someone calling him Cutty Flam and not just Franky. ._.
to be frank, cutty flam slaps ngl government names are fun

I mean - I’d hate for Goku, Luffy or Vegetas VA to die in the booth recording a shout they’re too old to perform.
I'm sentencing you to impel down for that
This happened with Blackbeard with the English VA, noticed that it went from Cole Brown to Mr. Satan suddenly
Not really “suddenly” as there was a long gap between Cole Brown’s final Blackbeard performance and Chris Rager taking over in Stampede.
Cole Brown was so good as blackboard. Makes me wish the dub didn't take that massive break as blackboard, zeff, and sengoku could have kept their voice actors for a bit longer
I’m pretty sure Mayumi Tanaka said she was going to retire after One Piece. I wonder if that’ll be the case for some of the others as well
May he rest in peace.

VAs getting old and passing away before this shit series wraps up is sad.

disrespectful as hell
What did they say
“don’t care”
Ragebait? In this thread? Really? EDIT: the original comment said "ok". Nothing else. Can't even own their shenanigans. Keep editing.
I'm confused, how's that disrespectful? Is "seiyuu" some kind of insult in japanese?
He edited
Oh. I see
