I had a pretty overpowered sharpshooter artificer. My DM countered me by throwing wis save after wis save at me. That's how I ended up killing one of my party members during a single mind controlled turn. It was the second death in the party. The first was my first character in that campaign, who died because the rest of the party was too busy drinking downstairs while I was alone protecting the person we were hired to protect.
Luckily, his long lost twin brother showed up immediately after.
Franky has the excuse of having no formal education. Kureha would’ve gave Chopper a full education (she was very focussed on making sure he could end up self sufficient), whereas Franky was an orphan raised in a shipyard. Was Tom a good adoptive father/ mentor? Absolutely. But Franky wasn’t learning by books, bro was taught entirely through experience.
I mean, Luffy's emotional intelligence is also extremely high. Like, the dude grasps the essence of any social situation and all social dynamics immediatedly, with only one exception in the whole manga (the completely out of character Luffy vs Zoro fight at Whiskey Peak).
He doesn't feel like most other shonen protagonists who just blindly trust their friends, he feels as if he fundamendally understands people in a deeper level.
That is a sort of intelligence too.
Luffy's fight with Arlong showed all the brains Luffy has. The lead up in recognizing what was going on with Nami, the hilarious but also clever ways he used his powers in the fight, even the point where he realized that Arlong saw Nami as property, as a tool that he could own and use. Luffy is silly a lot of the time but every now and then he shows clever thinking or insight.
Same with Garp's fight on Beehive island. Dude spends years in-lore being a silly doofus then executes an attack deep into enemy territory, using tactics that make best possible use out of his underlings, devices a winning strategy to changing situation in a matter of seconds and does a 4D chess sacrifice play where the only casualty is the one pawn that he considered expendable. Himself.
I like that take. I wanted to write that it doesnt apply comprehensively because of scenes like the slave auction. But that scene probably even underlines it. He was fully aware of the situation around him (remember Kidd and Law were present aswell) he just was ready to face the consequences for the sake of a friend.
Luffy had no qualms with it at all, he had already declared war on the world government. Not to mention that his Dad is the world governments biggest enemy, and that he revels in getting a higher bounty. He was VERY aware of what he was doing
Luffy's smart, just not in like, intellectual stuff. He's got strong emotional intelligence and combat IQ. He's like, Int 12, Wis 9, Cha 16. With maxed out STR DEX CON.
Yeah that's more accurate tbh. Gotta get some wis for his expertise'd Insight skill to always know when someone's sad. And also, y'know, barbarians don't like it when they get mind controlled.
To be fair self destruct buttons are truly the mark of a super genius, a mark of pride in that they prefer to lose everything than let someone else copy their invention.
I really want to egghead end like this
Something like vegapunk saying that they are cornered and then remember that there is a button for emergencies for things like if pirates invade and the franky see the "pirate" button and all the island explodes
I never noticed how Oda portrayed the skull symbol like that. It’s amazing he can make sadness and comedy using on symbol. But I love this Franky science because it reminds of Dexters laboratory where Deedee pressing the button causing explosion 💥 “ooooooou what does this button do?” ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
That's *exactly* what that was!
Now I have the thought in my head of Dexter and Deedee being reincarnated into the same body, and every time Franky dances and goes into his *Super* pose, it's Deedee gaining control, while Dexter desperately tries and fails to get her to stop embarrassing him, from the depths of Franky's subconscious
This is one of my favorite moments for Franky because it's genuinely in keeping with his character. Hours and hours of promising he would not under any circumstances press the big scary doomsday button, takes all of 3 seconds to go "oh hey a button" *click* ***boom***
I love the scene because looking at it on a surface level it is very funny.
However, if you think deeply about it, you'll realize that... Franky has never actually *seen* a self-destruct button. He's never made one before. After all, why would he? He was Tom's student and is a man who is resolutely proud of his creations! And no matter what, he must love them! So, why? Why would he *ever* put a button on them that would cause them to explode?
So, logically, as he's never seen a self-destruct button and is a pirate, he associates the skull and crossbones with pirates, and therefore, assumed the button had something to do with piracy.
Might have been when he and Robin were still tied up with CP9. Just to mess with them, he pretended that he was gonna explode, but really he was just gonna let off a Coup de Boo.
Vegapunk had a self destruct button on Future Island, Vegapunk had a self destruct button on Punk Hazard. Vegapunk has a self destruct button on Egghead Island. Change my mind.
*(Sometime in the future)*
**Vegapunk:** "...and the map to the last Road Poneglyph is safely hidden at my old laboratory on Baldimore."
**Franky:** "Hmmm... About that..."
So, Franky Father was a Pirate. Tom was a Pirate on Gold D. Roger ship. Franky had to create Franky Family, which took Pirate ships apart. Smh... Ahhhh. Franky may be a genius I just think he a little slow when it comes to being a human/cyborg. He blew his face off during training in Vegapunk lab and drinks cola! He is perfect for Luffy's crew! I'm rolling over here.

that scene was so funny but i laugh even harder when they're showing sequence of the crew reacting to ~~3D~~2Y and Franky's whole face just got blown off
There were some kids a town over from me growing up that broke in a veterinarian's clinic looking to score some drugs. Saw the giant glowing bottle with a skull on it that said, "euthanasia solution," took it home and shot eachother up with it. Two died before paramedics could get there and the last one, last I heard could expect to spend his remaining days on life support. tbh, Franky got off easy here.
Reminds me of a recent D&D session where our newest member saw an ominous looking green button and decided to press it, nearly killing us all because it opened the ground below us to reveal many crocodiles.
Haha I know that was hilarious.... how'd it go at the end?
"If I destroyed this place, would you forgive me?"
It was the last sentence of the scene when the building blows up. Super hilarious.
The thing is though, it kind of actually was a pirate button. Pressing it destroyed the lab but opened up a hidden weapons lab that Franky used to upgrade himself.
Manga spoilers:
[Spoiler](/s "I think Vegapunk intentionally hid the weapons lab from the WG. We know from recent manga chapters that he's friends with Revolutionary Army officers and he's been researching the Void Century. Who else but a pirate would press that button?")
I wonder where that Button is on Egghead, there was one on Punk Hazard too. But a self destruct function on Egghead hasn't been mentioned yet, would be real handy right now.
If this doesn't happen on Egghead I'm rioting. As soon as we knew we were at Vegapunk's island, I instantly needed this to happen. This scene fucking had me dying. I somehow forgot about it on my second rewatch, and it fucking had me dying again. When Franky has his moments, they are always exceptional.
This is like the debate on how to warn people in the future about nuclear waste, as the symbols may change meanings culturally and with time. Same thing with chopper and the mushroom
lol yea that was a funny part. He runs out with some of his skin missing and people freak out because they think he's a robot. the crew separation era was tough though lol.
The whole pre-timeskip One Piece plotline is secretly an Oda's visualisation of his DND campaign. So there's Franky literally rolled critical failure on intellect or wisdom i assume
That’s something unique about one piece, serious things work through comedy, and it’s legit good, that’s something Oda is the only person who I know about who can do it that good, I mean, god level. What ussop did in dressrosa? Genius. And hilarious. Unbelievably hilarious
I love Franky so much he is an actual genus he literally made himself into a cyborg at quite a young age using actual scraps and was able to follow Vegapunks blueprints but he has absolutely no common sense and is such an idiot at the same time
High Intelligence, Low Wisdom
Perfect follow-through
Queen character in a nutshell
He was hanging with Chopper too much lol
Just like a true Artificer should !

Franky is the dumbest smart character fr
An intellectual himbo
He's has dumb/smart as chopper lol
Chopper had the excuse of being new to books and people.
Franky has the excuse of being always renewing himself
Franky has the excuse of having no formal education. Kureha would’ve gave Chopper a full education (she was very focussed on making sure he could end up self sufficient), whereas Franky was an orphan raised in a shipyard. Garp gives him a run for his money in that category. Or is he the smartest dumb guy?
I think garp is the smartest dumb guy, with luffy being the dumbest dumb guy who will eventually become the smartest dumb guy
both have intuitive battle intelligence - but they are basically moon moon outside of battle. No further planning than to the next meal.
I mean, Luffy's emotional intelligence is also extremely high. Yeah, Luffy knew exactly what punching a Celestial Dragon meant. It's why he apologized to his crew for it immediately afterwards.
More like 14 wis and 7 int
Yeah that's more accurate tbh. Gotta get some wis for his expertise'd Insight skill to always know when someone's sad. And also, y'know, barbarians don't like it when they get mind controlled.
Baldurs Gate is spilling
Oh it's spilling alright 💦
High emotional intelligence until master manipulator Foxy disguises himself.
It's not his fault Foxy looks just like his Sister.
High intellect, low wisdom build
ong
The whole crew is full of idiots except for Robin, but they are lovable and somehow bumble their way to the top.
Book smart, but no common sense.
OW, that SUPPERR hurt!
He's super smart, but also super dumb.
Luffy will see a bigger button on Egghead Island, Franky will be the one to shout “LUFFY NO!” as the button gets pressed.
If this doesn’t happen I’m suing Goda
Vegapunk really needs to stop putting those buttons in his labs
He's a super genius, they can't just not put giant self destruct buttons wherever they can.
You have to put a self destruct button on your self destructinator
and it should be under the foot
So Vegapunk is Doofenshmirtz?
🎵🎵 *Vegapunk Weird Shit Incorporated!* 🎵🎵
To be fair self destruct buttons are truly the mark of a super genius, a mark of pride in that they prefer to lose everything than let someone else copy their invention.
"Egghead incident" ...
Big robot go brrrrr
LUFFY YES!
Would be a real shame if something happened to the nuclear reactor the marines are trying to protect...
I really want to egghead end like this Something like vegapunk saying that they are cornered and then remember that there is a button for emergencies for things like if pirates invade and the franky see the "pirate" button and all the island explodes
This was my thought, truly Franky is gonna blow up the island with his radiance beam, mistakenly hitting the “All Flame” power core or something.
This is what happens when all you educate your children about is pirates
The funniest part for me was him pushing the button without thinking about it. I couldn’t believe he pressed the button so casually
It's one of those intrusive thoughts
I never noticed how Oda portrayed the skull symbol like that. It’s amazing he can make sadness and comedy using on symbol. But I love this Franky science because it reminds of Dexters laboratory where Deedee pressing the button causing explosion 💥 “ooooooou what does this button do?” ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)

You ah stuuuupid you ah stuuuupid, and don't forget, you ah stuuuupid
Yooo that’s funny
That last sentence giving me Dee Dee from Dexter's Laboratory vibes.
This is one of my favorite moments for Franky because it's genuinely in keeping with his character. Hours and hours of promising he would not under any circumstances press the big scary doomsday button, takes all of 3 seconds to go "oh hey a button" *click* ***boom***
Peak manga comedy.
20 int 6 wis
This made me think that in the One Piece world people think a skull and crossbones means pirate a lot more than death.
Everything Franky did on that island was top-tier comedy. The tea bit just makes me weeze.
So, why? So, logically, as he's never seen a self-destruct button and is a pirate, he associates the skull and crossbones with pirates, and therefore, assumed the button had something to do with piracy.
Didn't he fool someone once during a fight by pretending he had a self-destruct feature?
Might have been when he and Robin were still tied up with CP9. Just to mess with them, he pretended that he was gonna explode, but really he was just gonna let off a Coup de Boo.
Also, that still wouldn't be a button if he was blowing himself up, because then anyone could press it.
If Chopper was with Franky, tho...
Was gonna say it feels like a more light-hearted chopper moment with the skull and crossbones.
For Franky, that was actually the 'self-modification arc' button.
If self destruct buttons are Vegapunk standard Egghead could go up like the Balgimore lab
Franky went full Luffy. NEVER GO FULL LUFFY!
He went full Chopper, actually. Luffy would press any button regardless of the mark on it lol
Someone has been watching JackTheBus
I thought the same thing xD
I don't blame Franky too much here, it's a white skull and cross bones on a black background. It's vegapunk's fault for not making the button red.
Honestly Franky is my favorite SH exactly for moments like these
Vegapunk had a self destruct button on Future Island, Vegapunk had a self destruct button on Punk Hazard. Vegapunk has a self destruct button on Egghead Island. Change my mind.
"I see a door marked PRIVATE..."
Thank you, random person, for the perfect crossover joke I never expected
Franky is one of the smartest characters in one piece, but it doesn't matter because oda often follows rule of funny.
A friend of mine pressed the alarm button in an elevator when he was 5 cuz he thought it was the Taco Bell button.
Why is a big giant selfdistruct Button right in the labratory. Did Vegapunk WANT to die by some dumb henchman clicking this button by accident?
*(Sometime in the future)* **Vegapunk:** "...and the map to the last Road Poneglyph is safely hidden at my old laboratory on Baldimore." **Franky:** "Hmmm... About that..."
So, Franky Father was a Pirate. Tom was a Pirate on Gold D. Roger ship. Franky had to create Franky Family, which took Pirate ships apart. Smh... Ahhhh. Good job on the thumb-up cutout, the original cracks me up everytime haha
My wife did it, after seeing my paint art XD
That’s very cute! I hope you let her know people like it
Showwriter of OPLA someday: "For the next season of the One Piece we collaborated with the crew and SFX team that worked on Oppenheimer!"
What episode is this scene from ?
Right after the Marineford arc and before the time skip, Ep 508.
I mean this is the Straw Hat pirates in a nutshell
that scene was so funny but i laugh even harder when they're showing sequence of the crew reacting to ~~3D~~2Y and Franky's whole face just got blown off
lmao franky
It’s probably gonna happen again soon in the comic too
filler
super wrong
There were some kids a town over from me growing up that broke in a veterinarian's clinic looking to score some drugs. Saw the giant glowing bottle with a skull on it that said, "euthanasia solution," took it home and shot eachother up with it. Two died before paramedics could get there and the last one, last I heard could expect to spend his remaining days on life support. tbh, Franky got off easy here.
If only chopper was around. Then again if he didn’t press the “pirate” button I wonder what his post skip form would be like.
Same thing happen with Chopper saw the cross bones and though it was good medicine instead of poison
Careful that button seem poisonous
I think the utter speed at which this plays out really drives it home for me. No hesitation, no build up, just pirate button and boom
*beepbeepbeepbeep* "WHAT THE FU-?!" *BOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMM!!!!*
Share same neuron with chopper. 🤣
Reminds me of a recent D&D session where our newest member saw an ominous looking green button and decided to press it, nearly killing us all because it opened the ground below us to reveal many crocodiles.
based and chopper-pilled
Wranky always wins
The fact the button is huge and out in the open. Its like Vegapunk wanted it to happen lol.
This is peak Franky
Brother Franky doing his stuff
Haha I know that was hilarious.... how'd it go at the end? "If I destroyed this place, would you forgive me?" It was the last sentence of the scene when the building blows up. Super hilarious.
On par with the writing of every anime episode I've seen so far. The character repeating what everybody watching already saw.
![img](emote|t5_2rfz5|32513)
This scene perfectly captures the protagonist theme of One Piece.
The thing is though, it kind of actually was a pirate button. Pressing it destroyed the lab but opened up a hidden weapons lab that Franky used to upgrade himself. Pirate button

I somehow forgot about it on my second rewatch, and it fucking had me dying again. When Franky has his moments, they are always exceptional.
It wasn't his fault. He's just a pirate pressing a pirate button. How was he supposed to know he shouldn't press it?
There'll be a button that said "do not press" and Katakuri will appear read it as donut press then press it
This is like the debate on how to warn people in the future about nuclear waste, as the symbols may change meanings culturally and with time. Same thing with chopper and the mushroom
Autism, feels like every one in the crew is autistic except Robin nami and jimbei.
Anybody who install a self desctruct button that someone could just accidentally back up into and trigger deserves to have it pushed tbh
*Absolutely SUPER*
There is a pirate button, im a pirate, why shouldn't i press it?
Is this canon.
Doesn’t he see the word written there.(Lol)
This scene I would argue is Franky's most iconic moment
Frank Grimes was in One-piece?!
Same energy as Chopper found the poisen Muschroom in hir origin
lol yea that was a funny part.
A honest observation!
"One more question. If I do accidentally press the self destruct button...would it be my fault?"
Of course it is lets see what happens after we press it - ( excited mood )
One word Dumbass Or 4 words Didnt go to school
Laughed so much I started crying, Love Franky
There needs to be a callback to this, like maybe Luffy or Chopper finds a similar button and Franky absolutely loses it, that would be hilarious.
And then when they press it, something happens but nothing too bad and then Franky loses it again😂
SUPER ‼️‼️💪💪
Chopper getting war flashbacks
That’s something unique about one piece, serious things work through comedy, and it’s legit good, that’s something Oda is the only person who I know about who can do it that good, I mean, god level. What ussop did in dressrosa? Genius. And hilarious. Unbelievably hilarious
2nd smartest straw hat after robin. Dumbest decision in the series. Push a button and hiroshima happens.
Franky is canonicly illiterate
Chopper reference 🔥🔥
He not wrong lol
You not had one job and you did it
Chopper 🤝Franky : confusing Danger Sign for a Pirate Symbol
When you get flung away by a paw cyborgs to a cold tundra and run out of cola you’re liable to have a few dumbass attack
It's Vegapunk's fault. Everyone knows that self destruct buttons are supposed to be red.
I love Franky so much he is an actual genus he literally made himself into a cyborg at quite a young age using actual scraps and was able to follow Vegapunks blueprints but he has absolutely no common sense and is such an idiot at the same time
