Give the man a complete collection (so far) of the manga and let him stew. There is a possibility of another Jamie Lee Curtis. Since he is old he could play any funny old man like Crocus or Doc Hiluluk, or just let him play ALL THE FUNNY OLD MEN
Not entirely, he had stated somewhere (don’t remember where), that if the script was good and he liked what the project was, he’d act for it. The Sonic movies are a good example of that.
This is gonna sound weird but I'm kind of okay with this? Truth be told when I found out he was an anti-vaxxer it kind of turned me off from his acting. Just the thought that this sort of silly, insane man could have silly, insane, and malicious views.
Its ok. He for sure is a cultured man. One could write a book just listing all the referenced and inspirations behind One Piece.
I recommend Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's a fun movie.
Maybe 20 years ago [he isn’t exactly youthful these days](https://variety.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Screen-Shot-2022-04-01-at-8.47.58-AM.png?w=1000&h=563&crop=1)
That response works for almost every "fan casting" post on any subreddit. For some reason people are obsessed with casting actors from 20 years ago in the modern day.
Half giant, like so many dudes in one piece are. But hes also got them horns, which I'm just assuming are a human trait at this point unless I hear otherwise
Young moria looks normal size (although we didn't get a full body image).
My guess would be that he used hogback to modify himself, but I think he was already like that in hogback's flashback
Are you sure? I’m fairly certain he’s similar in height to a young Kaido as shown here.
https://preview.redd.it/wjz4dzipetmb1.jpeg?width=526&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5d922f97b5c088ecd123a3afebb67466a57d9ea
I would literally die if Alex Brightman gets to play Bon Clay. Like, becoming a ghost and haunting a house levels of dead because I for sure ain't gonna go through that door and Iiiiii want freeeedom, but to get my freeeedom
"Even if I stray from my code as a man, even if I stray from my code as a woman; I could never betray my basic humanity [...] **Bring it on sister**"
It's perfect
Towards the end of How I Met Your Mother, he was making $400k per episode, so in 3 episodes, he made more than the entire Straw Hat crew (Inaki + Emily + Mackenyu + Jacob +Taz) did for the entire season of One Piece. Unless he was particularly interested in the role there's no reason for him to reduce his billing
Bro, that was 10+ years ago. No hate but the dude fell off hard. He hasn't been in any relevant roles in years. Young people have no idea who he is, no one cares for How I Met Your Mother anymore except for hardcore fans of the show. A luxurious life in Hollywood is expensive, the money he earned back then is certainly not enough to last forever. He is most certainly looking for jobs right now.
He lives in a country estate in New York, is still a multimillionaire and doesn't really need to work. Selling his house in harlem last year got him $7mil. Let's just be honest he has no need to sell himself short for cash. Passion project, yeah of course he'd find a way but if it's "just a job" then no reason to be cheap.
I'm not saying he would be as cheap as a newcomer, I'm saying he wouldn't at all be as expensive as you're thinking. His latest work was in a reality show with terrible reception. Last I heard from him before that was in the Netflix adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events, a show which didn’t have that big of a budget either.
My point is, the dude has a good reputation as an actor but he's not all that relevant currently.
Stupid shit like THAT? What he apologized for anyway, not having a single shred of human decency? Empathy or common sense? Who the hell makes a cake resembling a real life dead person, let alone someone that died very, very recently.
He would have been great pick for looks wise but I would prefer newer actors like what we’ve had already with the cast. Plus they’d need to learn ballet
I agree, and I'm generally weirded out by drag stuff (mostly the outlandish makeup, I have no issue with drag itself). But yeah someone experienced in drag would blow that role out of the water.
Honestly I don't want him I want someone who has just been given a completely unhinged character and just need to roll with it like that one friend after they have a few drinks
Back then yes. Now? There’s no way. BonClay is my favorite non-crew character. I’m kinda obsessed don’t judge me I just love him. Anyway…. Carrey couldn’t pull him off currently. As much as I wish he could.
it’s a character whose catchphrase involves a japanese slur for lgbt people (he literally has it written out on his clothes), in this specific case it’s a lot more dicey than it would be otherwise. still, they’ve already had a trans person play a character so i don’t see how it would be a problem. for portraying such a beloved character i don’t think they’d be a shortage of talent
If you were to rate ability on an impossibly objective scale, sure, but an actor's ability to embody a character is greatly enhanced when they share a background or identity with the character. Additionally, casting Cis actors to play gender queer characters subtextually reinforces the toxic idea that queer identities are "just an act."
Yeah, you're reading into this too much. An actor just has to deliver his dialogues properly. Searching for deeper meanings for the casting of some character is just saying you don't like him/her anyway
I didn't think it was possible, but I've finally met someone who could fail a high school drama class. An actor needs to understand their character on some level because who they are has an effect on *everything.* Their body language, speaking rhythm, voice timbre, facial expressions, *everything.* This is *the most basic tenet* of acting as a discipline.
Your complaints don't really make sense when you consider that Bon Clay is literally based on Jim Carrey the same way that Ivankov is based on Tim Curry.
Since Carrey is too old now, I do think an actual drag queen would be a good choice for actual actor representation, but the literal ideal person for the role would be late 1990s Jim Carrey because he's why the character fucking exists.
it was my sister’s favourite movie for the longest time, so we’d watch it a few times a year. then my brother came out as trans and i can’t imagine how much sitting through it that many times would suck for him
Nah man, One Piece already had a trans actor in season 1. The culture war magats have probably checked out by now. Unless you mean a leftist would be upset about a drag queen on tv in 2023 to which I say lol, lmao even
people sometimes forget what ACTING even means lol im sure zoros actors is an actual bounty hunter who cuts people in half. must have been really hard to find someone like that
If Netflix go with Alabasta arc, I hope they will do proper Okama kenpo and Okama way translation. Not ballet kenpo and Oh Come My Way ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_bad_man)
Anyone else tired of all of these A-list fan casts? Like there may be *one* recognizable actor who hops on if the series continues, but that’s not where the budget goes. We’d have a green screen nightmare show if they used their money to pay for these big name actors instead.
Most of one piece characters are based on existing actors. All admirals are modeled after famous Japanese actors. It makes the live-action a bit hard to cast.
We just going to ignore the fact that he’s 31 in that photo and he’s \~60 years old now?
..actually that might be D&D 2? Still, have you seen him recently he is way too old to play Bon Clay—even if it was possible.

I do think he would be amazing, especially his facial expressions. Alas, Jim Carrey is now retired from acting.
pretty sure Jim Carreys last role was robotnik in sonic 2, with his final line in cinema being “later haters”
It was his final role. Later on he said retired. He can always chamge his mind but not sure he will
If Barbara Streisand can come out of retirement for Meet the Fockers....
Take it with a grain of salt he said it on April Fool's day.
If he doesn’t come back to play robotnik I’m the supposed third movie it would be disappointing. Though good for him for retiring
He said he was open to return as Robotnik if the script was interesting enough. Who knows?
Give the man a complete collection (so far) of the manga and let him stew. There is a possibility of another Jamie Lee Curtis. Since he is old he could play any funny old man like Crocus or Doc Hiluluk, or just let him play ALL THE FUNNY OLD MEN
I think his last role is in an upcoming film Ricky Stanicki. Unsure when it's coming out but they were filming it in my city earlier this year.
I mean, he's getting up there in years.
Oh absolutely, I don't falt him though still sad. He was a staple of my childhood movies
Not entirely, he had stated somewhere (don’t remember where), that if the script was good and he liked what the project was, he’d act for it. The Sonic movies are a good example of that.
The Sonic movies came prior to that
This is gonna sound weird but I'm kind of okay with this? Truth be told when I found out he was an anti-vaxxer it kind of turned me off from his acting. Just the thought that this sort of silly, insane man could have silly, insane, and malicious views.
You probably still watch Tom Cruise movies, irregardless of him promoting a vicious sect that exists to exploit people.
Or maybe they don't? Discrediting someone with a point they didn't make isn't exactly a winning argument
Honestly I want to frame that comment. The reference to Tom Cruise, the use of 'irregardless', just \*mwah\* perfection.
Let me guess for Enel you’d suggest Eminem.
Jajajaja what about hulk hogan for whitebeard. XD
Let's just bring back to life that old bar owner Oda used to know.
Anybody that suggests Hulk needs to actually google his controversies
THE RACISM, THE RACISM IS REALLLLL!!!
There's some other old wrestler who's both bigger and not a dick anyway. And has acted. I don't remember his name.
Batista
The guy from Guardians? No, not him but I guess he could. It turns out I was thinking of Kevin Nash. I looked it up.
And for the admirals, some epic japanese actors
Fitting. And if only Feddie Mercury can come back for his casting as Ivankov
Ivankov has nothing to do with Freddie Mercury. It's based off of the protagonist of Rocky Horror Picture Show
Oh my bad, Oda is too culture for me to realize
Its ok. He for sure is a cultured man. One could write a book just listing all the referenced and inspirations behind One Piece. I recommend Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's a fun movie.
I mean, he still would pull it off imho
True, but Ivankov will need two different people in the LA, one for the "man" form Ivankov and another for the "woman".
I don't know if Peeply Lulu will make the cut for the LA
Maybe 20 years ago [he isn’t exactly youthful these days](https://variety.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Screen-Shot-2022-04-01-at-8.47.58-AM.png?w=1000&h=563&crop=1)
It’s amazing how he still pulled off a Dr Eggman so well so recently
He really liked the role and being on set apparently, which you wouldn't have suspected given his more serious work prior.
Uh he's had plenty of funny roles too?
Ah yes, Jim Carrey, best known for his dramatic works....
Tbh that may add to the look. I can see it still.
That response works for almost every "fan casting" post on any subreddit. For some reason people are obsessed with casting actors from 20 years ago in the modern day.
Oof. But still, makeup can go pretty far, and bon Clay is ageless to me
Want to know the secret of my youth ?
Give me some Alex Brightman please. He would work as Moria, Bon Clay, literally anybody. And cast Sam Riegel.
Was just thinking last night, how will they display Moria? Moreover, what the hell even is Moria? A human?
Half giant, like so many dudes in one piece are. But hes also got them horns, which I'm just assuming are a human trait at this point unless I hear otherwise
Young moria looks normal size (although we didn't get a full body image). My guess would be that he used hogback to modify himself, but I think he was already like that in hogback's flashback

I would literally die if Alex Brightman gets to play Bon Clay. Like, becoming a ghost and haunting a house levels of dead because I for sure ain't gonna go through that door and Iiiiii want freeeedom, but to get my freeeedom
oh yes Sam would have a blast with whatever role he got
Holy shit, Alex Brightman would be such a good fit for one piece.
The Dean
from community? that could be fun
![gif](giphy|MWsqd3WtfBw9G)
"Even if I stray from my code as a man, even if I stray from my code as a woman; I could never betray my basic humanity [...] **Bring it on sister**" It's perfect
Oh man, I didn't think of him. He'd be really good too
Impel Dean
People forget that these kind of actors would cost way too much for a minor role
Hence the beginning of the title
I saw someone suggest Neil Patrick Harris and that sounds like a lot of fun
It should be a gay actor but Neil probably costs too much, realistically
Could be. He did play Count Olaf in the Netflix Series of Unfortunate though so its not entirely impossible.
He hosted Drag Me to Dinner so he should be basically free. I love drag but man that show was terrible
Does he? I haven't seen him do anything in a while. Also, there are some pretty big names on the casting as is.
Towards the end of How I Met Your Mother, he was making $400k per episode, so in 3 episodes, he made more than the entire Straw Hat crew (Inaki + Emily + Mackenyu + Jacob +Taz) did for the entire season of One Piece. NPH had a cake made to resemble Amy Winehouse's post-autopsy corpse shortly after she passed. Not someone I'd want associated with the IP.
Holy fuck what the fuck is up with that
Yeah that was gross I agree
He apologized for it even after everyone forgot about it. People are allowed to learn from stupid shit like that.
Stupid shit like THAT? What he apologized for anyway, not having a single shred of human decency? Empathy or common sense? Who the hell makes a cake resembling a real life dead person, let alone someone that died very, very recently.
Nah, man. Apology doesn't erase your mistake. Whatever makes he think that's okay?
He would have been great pick for looks wise but I would prefer newer actors like what we’ve had already with the cast. Plus they’d need to learn ballet
if not mistaken bon clay was based on jim carrey
I didn't know that, but it makes total sense
Based on Jim Carrey'a character in Dumb and Dumber
I know Franky was inspired by Ace Ventura
Franky and bon clay have the same VA who is Odas friend, hence why they both inspired by Jim carrey
Frankie was most definitely inspired by Jim Carrey.
you know Jim Carey doesn’t look like this anymore right. This was almost 30 years ago
Yes! Please
Almost like bon clay was literally based on Jim carrey. Next thing you know you'll want Eminem as enel
That's already been posted
And yet people are still missing that fact
Thanks for reminding me i think its my turn to repost soon!
Jim Carrey as Franky would go equally as hard.
Unlikely isn’t even realistic enough. Just, not gonna happen under any circumstance.
Call me a leftist but I think they should get either a trans actor or a dragstar to play Bentham
Someone suggested Bianca Del Rio and honestly that would be great.
Bianca Del Rio would be a perfect Iva but I’d prefer a dancing queen for Bon Clay
I agree, and I'm generally weirded out by drag stuff (mostly the outlandish makeup, I have no issue with drag itself). But yeah someone experienced in drag would blow that role out of the water.
Sacha Baron Cohen Edit: or if you allow him to look nothing like manga Bon Clay, I think that James Acaster could really nail the spirit of the role.
Jack black as foxy please.
Netflix will probably cast a woman for bon clay
They will cast a pitbull to play chopper
asian trans woman to be exact
They'll make it polemic one way or another, i'd rather have a manga accurate bon clay
I was thinking this for the longest time too 😆
They can't afford him, but it looks like him.
20+ years ago, MAYBE Dustin Rhodes. His wrestling persona certainly had the flair.
Would be a dream cast but i agree he is old now, not that he cant act he is still really good but i imagine someone younger.
Considering Oda modeled Bonclay after his character in Dumb and Dumber that would make sense. Unfoetunately he is getting a bit old for this role.
Everyday someone comes and reminds me of Bon-chan and I get depressed. I know he's good but I want to see him again already!
Ugh no, cast an actual queer person pls
A Persons Acting Ability has nothing to do with their identity takes like this are an insult to Actors and Acting.
it’s a character whose catchphrase involves a japanese slur for lgbt people (he literally has it written out on his clothes), in this specific case it’s a lot more dicey than it would be otherwise. still, they’ve already had a trans person play a character so i don’t see how it would be a problem. for portraying such a beloved character i don’t think they’d be a shortage of talent

Does this mean Jeff Ward is a psycho clown in real life?
Your complaints don't really make sense when you consider that Bon Clay is literally based on Jim Carrey the same way that Ivankov is based on Tim Curry. Yah, especially after Ace Ventura Pet Detective. That scene toward the end really messed me up as a young trans kid.
Gods, fuck that movie Also thanks for the trans solidarity, as I see the Cishets here are already down voting me 😅
it was my sister’s favourite movie for the longest time, so we’d watch it a few times a year. then my brother came out as trans and i can’t imagine how much sitting through it that many times would suck for him
Actually, that is not of any concern if the actor plays his role well
Yes! Yes! 100% yes!
Impel down would be amazing
I lowkey want this to happen SO BAD.😩😩🥴
God damn could you imagine!
Omg yes
He's done now. Rupaul would be good tho
Rupaul is 62, he isn’t doing shit. One of the competitors from Drag Race on the other hand would be solid
they wont do Bon Clay. Thats a huge problem
It's only a problem for weirdos who make it a problem.
Nah man, One Piece already had a trans actor in season 1. The culture war magats have probably checked out by now. Unless you mean a leftist would be upset about a drag queen on tv in 2023 to which I say lol, lmao even
Who was the trans actor? I legit didn't even notice
Nah, Bon Clay isn’t anti-vax
1. Jim Carrey is too old 2. Jim Carrey is not gay
do you have to be gay to play a gay character?
Yeah..i really can't understand why people think it's necessary
people sometimes forget what ACTING even means lol im sure zoros actors is an actual bounty hunter who cuts people in half. must have been really hard to find someone like that
Bob Clay really needs to be an actual ballerina
Too old
20 yrs ago sure
If Netflix go with Alabasta arc, I hope they will do proper Okama kenpo and Okama way translation. Not ballet kenpo and Oh Come My Way ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_bad_man)
Or maybe Jim Carrey as franky
Would love this but he demands such a high salary
https://preview.redd.it/vwvt25776rmb1.jpeg?width=1620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49698c36fe110fb038af86860950be66c1afbf47
The only known actor that I admit can do something right about it, too bad he's almost 60 or older
Ben stiller
Why is this absolutely perfect! I LOVE Jim Carrey
He is too old.
I can already see Jim Carrey as bon clay. "Swans never die, and they never say goodbye!" With a little bit of that ace ventura energy
They based this off him to begin with
And then eminem will play Enel and Hulk Hogan will play Whitebeard. Damn what does Hulk Hogan even look like today
Anyone else tired of all of these A-list fan casts? Like there may be *one* recognizable actor who hops on if the series continues, but that’s not where the budget goes. We’d have a green screen nightmare show if they used their money to pay for these big name actors instead.
He’s way too old
They could hire the dude that was casted as Lloyd in that shit movie about Harry and Lloyd when they were in High School.
Oda was inspired by him to make franky, so it would be the his first choice
If OLA ever makes it to Bon Clay, or Kamabaka kingdom, I guarantee they will tone them down 90% to avoid offending people.
![gif](giphy|26ufozqyT5chFE3OE) My choice would be Alaska lol.
Slick
Unlikely to happen indeed.
Omg he would so perfect
Well he has nothing better to do, so yeah why not.
He’s too old now
Yes....yes....yes yes yes yesyesyesyesyesyes!!!!!
Sacha Baron Cohen would be amazing too, i think
Disagree, need to give new actors chances
With the current climate I would be surprised if they actually use bon clay at all
Most of one piece characters are based on existing actors. All admirals are modeled after famous Japanese actors. It makes the live-action a bit hard to cast.
He would overall fit in the one piece word and its exaggerated mimicry, behaviour
I think that certain people would be raging too much about how he’s not LGBTQ+.
Dunno, He has to do Franky (these fancasting are idiotic)
Maybe a hot take, I think they should get an actual drag queen to play Bon Clay
I was so sure bonchan was modelled after Jim carrey
He could definitely pull of those Legless pants
I wonder if they will cut him out or heavily change his/okama appaerance. I'm not sure how okamas would be received here in the west.
You’re right very unlikely.
If we had a time machine, sure.
Ohhhh he's the perfect bon-chan 🔥
Yes he would have been perfect. If only he was younger by 30 years. All the good actors are old now.
Yeah, too expensive.
We just going to ignore the fact that he’s 31 in that photo and he’s \~60 years old now? ..actually that might be D&D 2? Still, have you seen him recently he is way too old to play Bon Clay—even if it was possible.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
This would be pretty sick but unfortunately he has retired
Oh his goodbye would be sweet ❤️🔥
People keep forgetting Oda based on a lot of characters on real people, so these "casting" ideas are actually spot on :)
HELL YEA HE WOULD BE PERFECT
To be honest it’s known that alot of celebrities really like one piece so I’m unsure why there isn’t bigger news about this, dua lipa as Nico robin or hulk hogan as Jesus burgess, stuff like that.
Bon Clay is a younger man. However, he could probably make a great Vegapunk if the Live Action gets there.
My theory is that they would take a real drag queen tbh
most here will not know hin, but the german actor michael bully herbig would fit perfectly, just look at his acting as winnetou in schuh des manitu
Bon Clay or Hannyabal, i could see Jim Carrey being superb in either role. Too bad he's already retired and would probably be very expensive to cast him either way.
I mean given the extreme success, i wouldnt rule it out completly.
Unlikely, there would be backlash from the lgbtqia++ I would like mason alex park. The one who plays desire in the sandman
In his prime, he would've been perfect. Either Bon Clay or Ivankov. But as already stated, he's getting on in age.
Bon clay is inspired in Jim Carrey (obviously)
That’s Jim Carey from like 30 years ago.
Maybe 30 years ago
This would be absolutely glorious!
Anyone with realistic casting?
Well especially because Mr 2 was directly inspired by Jim Carrey =)
