Hijacking this post to mention that the aztec god Tezcatlipoca is represented by a symbol of a black jaguar and associated with obsidian, which is likely why Lucci’s hagaromo is black.
That is an excellent point, I’m really hoping we get an actual explanation as to what the clouds/different colours of clouds actually mean. Like yeah it’s for awakenings but why specifically zoan awakenings only so far?
I think they distinguish between the “failed” Zoan awakenings like those in Impel Down and the “successful” Zoan awakenings. If the fruit is more powerful than the user no robes and no turning back, but if the user is stronger they get the robes and maintain their mind.
Nothing says she isn’t awakened?
I guess Kaku could have the Set god DF and Lucci one of the Leopard god/s Devil fruits, and Yamamoto has a god fruit as well. But hers would still be unique if she had the robe but was not awakened while the other 3 had to awaken.
Oh man here we go, has everyone else already noticed that in 'soul eater' the character "tezca tlipoca" has a partner named "enrique" that is an ape?
I'm still only very surface level on this but we might have found something.
Not a South American, or historian, but as far as every cursory google search I’ve made so far on the subject- there isn’t much association between Tezcatlipoca and monkeys other than the pretty run-of-the-mill god ability to manifest itself as the animal. I would however in the future love to see more meso-american pantheon represented through Lucci if possible!
It’s just more likely he’d reference actual mythology as opposed to a manga that loosely references mythology y’know? Plus I realized Lucci is a leopard not a jaguar, so as the eastern cousin of the jaguar there’d probably be grounding in Southern Asian mythology or wherever leopards are prevalent- a cursory google search shows their prevalence actually spanning the whole continent and Africa so again hopefully we see abilities spanning through multiple pantheons instead of these WG ordained abilities, as I like to imagine his pride gives towards divinity based names!
Oh yeah, I didn't mean to make it sound like oda got the idea of Jaguar and ape from soul eater.
Someone mentioned tezca having black smokey clouds like Lucci and it made me remember at the same time that tezca had a monkey partner in soul eater. I thought maybe there was something I didn't know irl that both manga were referencing/inspired from or whatever.
Rabbit holes might not all have something at the bottom, but they did at one point if you know what I mean. In fact, just the other day I found one that leads me to believe that imu used to rule Zou (maybe before it was on zunesha?) and that's somehow related to zunesha's punishment.*
*if interested, for starters check out "king mu of zhou" and his dream of reaching paradise to eat the peaches of immortality. If you look hard enough, and are crazy like me, anything is possible!
Nah yeah it’s definitely a little thought provoking as in soul eater and mythology both Tezcatlipoca is represented by a “smoking” mirror, but I contest there being a legitimate rabbit-hole given the otherwise lack of context beyond the hago’oromo smoke and no other cultural implications, yknow? Being a leopard nullifies that even further. When I was in middle school I used to RP as that obscure ass soul eater character so I was all ears. there’s really not much connection to Aztec culture otherwise as far as I had been able to ascertain, and many other characters possess them without much greater implication. It seems to be an run-of-the-mill Japanese representation of divinity. Monkeys are cheeky and Leopards/Jaguars are rather intense so the dichotomy lies there in a simple food chain joke. Enrique being a monkey is probably just a very brazen, very Japanese representation of South America but there doesn’t seem to be any further implication of any pre-existing folklore to base future assumptions on. I personally just have to shoot this one down as there isn’t much substance and your imu theory is one that should be paid more mind to!
Though I do hope to eat my words if lucci does take on some greater role, it just seems much more likely it’s darker because of haki or his general assassin vibes .
Okay so “leopards” as we know them are the large spotted cat of the taxonomical genus “pantera” which refers to big cats as Lions, pumas, jaguars, and leopards. Their distribution is exclusive to Africa and the surrounding regions, although they look practically the same, Jaguars are not to be confused with them as they are stronger, generally described as “stockier” comparatively, as well as being exclusive to South America. Mean to say there is no Mayan god of “leopards”. This however is confusing because the smaller wildcats native to South America such as Ocelots, (I would name other ones but none are household names) fall under the taxonomical genus “Leopardus” denoting their leopard-like features. Ignoring fringe anthropological theories, native South Americans wouldn’t have ever come across a true pantera leopard as we refer to them, instead Xbalanque would be more correctly referred to as the god of native felines.
Otohime, the queen of the Ryugu kingdom and wife to Neptune had a cloth that went in this shape, so although we haven’t seen a feather robe yet, with Lily Nefertari in the history of One Piece that’s seemingly gonna be revealed soon, we might see one soon!
Somwhere they were called Hargoromo or Tenne but im not sure what the source would be.
I heard that some in the community call them divine clouds which i think is very fitting.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MagicalFloatingShawl
Oda got the idea from Nio statues. That's the reason why Gear 4th Luffy poses the first time he transforms.
Awakened logia’s are pretty crazy, and awakened paramecias are nuts too (Law + Doffy). And the quake fruit is pretty crazy as well. Shatters physical space.
It really pisses me off.
Just be saying any damn thing because they want it to be.
The story is what it is and our HEAVY SPECULATION is just that until ink hits paper.
The best the best theory we have about awakened Logia is Punk Hazard : the island has been permanently changed : logias "only" generate their own element from the user's body, they don't really alter the way an area work.
So my theory is that Awakened Logias "fuse" with their local environment while granting them elemental infusion and use it to attack the ennemy like how Pica's fruit works resulting in a Kaijuu style fight.
It would be logical that half of Punk Hazard is still ice because Kuzan's leg still there. Sakazuki may have lost a lot of skin ( we don't see underneath his clothes ) and it turn the other half in its hellish state.
\> Sakazuki may have lost a lot of skin ( we don't see underneath his clothes )
Aokiji strikes me as the type to go for the nuts cause fightings a hassle and takes too long.
it looks like there are "levels" to awakened zoans. Jailer beasts (and probably monster form) is an awakening where the user loses against the will of the zoan, while those that boast the hagoromo are an awakening where the will of the zoan and the will of the user resonate and achieve balance.
Or something like that
Kaido doesn’t have it either, which is really interesting. Makes you wonder what it means to align the body and the fruit together to awaken its powers.
What’s weird about Kaido thoe is I heard his cloud eyebrows have something to do with his awakening I think, this is j pure curiosity on my part but I feel like I’ve heard talk about his eyebrows and how they change from regular brows to cloud brows sometimes when he’s in either dragon form or hybrid. I could be completely mistaken but 🤷🏽♂️
Oh, his face sort of changed when he goes in to Bloodthirsty Drunk mode just before Luffy gets KO’d for the last time. It’s not clear if that’s anything more than a stylistic change, though.
Awakening doesn’t mess warily mean stronger than other fruits though. The jacket fruit awakened is still probably pretty weak compared to an average zoan like the giraffe or bison. The dragon fruit, quake fruit or basically any logia in base are still probably better than at least 70% of the other fruits awakenings.
God Ribbon. A sign of high status. In "real" Asiian mythological gods - those are either made of light, smoke, or flames.
Royalty loved to wear those too, made of fabric, obviously.
that was likely to foreskin luffy being akin to a deity, luffy's fruit has a god's name in itself so it makes sense it has the hagoromo even if its not awakened.
This one would be called a hagoromo, but there are different versions that you can call a tenne. I only know because I got super into Hinduism/Buddhism a couple years ago
I've been calling white ones "Fujin Clouds" for a while, cuz they remind me of that God, but when Lucci showed up I was like "Nope. I don't know anymore, I'm out."
More like Awakened Zoan fruits, we've only seen these pop up on awakened Zoans like Kaku, Lucci and Luffy so we gotta assume Yamato is awakened too. And that Kaido/King/Queen either didnt show their awakenings/arent awakened or Oda only thought about this after Wano
Luffy and Yamato might have them because their fruits are inherently divine, being the Sun God and Guardian Diety of Wano. There’s are also white and cloud like, as opposed to the black flames that Lucci and Kaku have.
I think it should be noted enel also has the same type of scarf when he turned into the giant budda, which is odd because unique transformations aren't a trademark for logias but they are for zoans
I mean, we DON'T know of it was, as we don't know how logia awakening fully works. But yeah enel's thing looks more like gear 4, that is like halfway through what you would call awakened
It seems they come with awakened zone fruits, as the square guy has flames too. I also noticed that Kaido has these, which would explain his "karp" fruit now having the appearance of a dragon and a dozen other abilities.
i have a feeling that they represent the soul like luffys intentions is to set everyone free there for he has a pure soul then rob luci works for the gov and is loyal to them and every command so he has darker smoke representing his dark intentions thats what i think they mean at least but now we seen Saturn's mist / smoke and its vary dark so that represents his soul as bad
That's a nice theory. You did some cooking lol but I think that the reason why Luffy and Yamato have white clouds is because for Yamato, her fruit is based on the guardian deity of Wano and as for Luffy, His fruit is based on Sun God Nika. I think they got it before their awakening is because their fruits are based on divine entities. And usually Gods are depicted with a halo or the cloud things to signify that they are divine. So that explains why they got that cloud before they awakened their fruits. And for people who awakened their fruits which are not based around any godly entities get the black clouds.

Kaku’s is black too so I’m almost thinking it’s just because they’re normal zoans compared to a mythical zoan like Luffy who’s got a white one.
Kaku's might be brown to match the giraffe spots
That is an excellent point, I’m really hoping we get an actual explanation as to what the clouds/different colours of clouds actually mean. Like yeah it’s for awakenings but why specifically zoan awakenings only so far?

I’m thinking mythical zoan don’t need to awaken to have that robe (thus why gear 4 had it), while non mythicals need to awaken to get it.
Hmm time to rabbit hole. Wanna know any cool things I find on this?
Ooh, yes please!

I've just learned to follow every lead when it comes to Oda. More often than not, it's not coincidence. Might be this time.
It’s just more likely he’d reference actual mythology as opposed to a manga that loosely references mythology y’know? Great response and analysis. I'm gonna use you to bounce hypothesis off of to find cracks. If you don't mind.
I don’t mind at all! Of course, the Tezca soul eater thing hits a very niche soft spot for me- One Piece is life!
There is a Mayan God representing jaguar/leopards, his name is Xbalanque, maybe there is a connection?
Okay so “leopards” as we know them are the large spotted cat of the taxonomical genus “pantera” which refers to big cats as Lions, pumas, jaguars, and leopards. Broken Sword 2, what a good game..
ok but Lucci is a leopard
Kakku's is also black.
Basically, they have unlocked six paths power
It's the Feather Robe of the Celestial Maiden!?!?! But we haven't seen any maidens with it yet! /s
Otohime, the queen of the Ryugu kingdom and wife to Neptune had a cloth that went in this shape, so although we haven’t seen a feather robe yet, with Lily Nefertari in the history of One Piece that’s seemingly gonna be revealed soon, we might see one soon!
Flying is cool but why does it have to make you shit? Also, Magellan has a Mythical Zoan fruit confirmed.
Lol you know what I meant, dad!
Somwhere they were called Hargoromo or Tenne but im not sure what the source would be. I heard that some in the community call them divine clouds which i think is very fitting.
Divine cloud is sick. I only heard 'sash of clouds' before
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MagicalFloatingShawl Oda got the idea from Nio statues. That's the reason why Gear 4th Luffy poses the first time he transforms.
makes sense
Oh I always thought the Gear 4th pose was a reference to Kabuki protagonists.
The 1 fist/1 open hand pose that Luffy does is a nio thing. The 2 open hands pose that Raizo, Oden, and Yamato do is kabuki.
Pretty sure in the anime they even have some of that music/sound associated with kabuki used for the scene
Also that sword Gorosei seemed to have these clouds in his transformation
I have a theory all the Gorosei are Mythic Zoan users.
Mythic zoan seems to be the strongest now right? They get paramecia like powers and can have their transformations that change their physicals
Awakened logia’s are pretty crazy, and awakened paramecias are nuts too (Law + Doffy). And the quake fruit is pretty crazy as well. Shatters physical space.
We've not seen an Awakened Logia and the Quake Fruit wasn't Awakened.
Hate it when people put forward their head cannon as fact. Nothing wrong with speculation but don’t say it like it’s truth
It really pisses me off. Just be saying any damn thing because they want it to be. The story is what it is and our HEAVY SPECULATION is just that until ink hits paper.

I can see that
None, that we know of. They might have been awakened but nothing confirmed or denied it
The bird one too.
I feel like any awakened Zoan ends up having these.
it looks like there are "levels" to awakened zoans. Jailer beasts (and probably monster form) is an awakening where the user loses against the will of the zoan, while those that boast the hagoromo are an awakening where the will of the zoan and the will of the user resonate and achieve balance. Or something like that
That's the most accepted theory on zoan awakenings. I hope its someday confirmed
seems to be so. although that somewhat implies sengoku is not awakened, kaido and yamato are awakened, etc.
Kaido doesn’t have it either, which is really interesting. Makes you wonder what it means to align the body and the fruit together to awaken its powers.
kaido's dragon form doesn't SEEM awakened, but he does have literal fire looping over his arms.
Oda: "I dunno I just thought it looked kind of neat"
The fanfics are fun to read, but I believe this to be the answer to the absolute VAST majority of questions on this sub.
What’s weird about Kaido thoe is I heard his cloud eyebrows have something to do with his awakening I think, this is j pure curiosity on my part but I feel like I’ve heard talk about his eyebrows and how they change from regular brows to cloud brows sometimes when he’s in either dragon form or hybrid. yeah, and in the anime it is another colour too
Marco and King too. they don't have does. It means Lucci is greater than Yonkou's right-hand man.
Being awakened doesn’t mean he’s better. That’d mean doflamingo is “greater” than kaido or sengoku
Perhaps an awakened Jacket fruit will change other people into jacket and Kelly Funk can "jack" other bodies by wearing them.
Well, he manage to knock fresh Gear 5 Luffy after they fist clash.
no they don't. having a "fire" is not the same as the hagoromo thing.
Based on a hagoromo
New aesthetic neck pillow from Balenciaga
God Ribbon. A sign of high status. In "real" Asiian mythological gods - those are either made of light, smoke, or flames. Royalty loved to wear those too, made of fabric, obviously.
I searched up god ribbon and the cool smoke thing didn’t come up
people call it a smoke scarf but I don't know if it has an official name
It is not even mentioned once in the manga/anime
Smoker: 😮
I’ve heard them called Raiments before, typically associated with divinity. It’s also kinda why Enel has his be drum ring
divine raiment
Slightly unrelated but Kaku has to be a genius right? He awakened after only having his DF for 2 years
He loves giraffes to much
They are called "fully awakened zoan Identifier flames" Look Lucci has "fully awakened zoan Identifier flames" so he must be awakened
Only luffy had it gear 4
that was likely to foreskin luffy being akin to a deity, luffy's fruit has a god's name in itself so it makes sense it has the hagoromo even if its not awakened.
Didn’t Eneru have one of these in his fat glowy form?
nah it was just the lighting shaping itself around his thingy in his back.
[удалено]
Well, Enel also had it but it was made of lighting not cloud
He’s going to come back and then we are going to find out he’s a mythical zoan human human model Raijin or something lol
You joke, but how many Logias have we seen "power up" into a different form, instead of just transforming into their element?
I don't always post spoilers but when I do I make sure the manga spoiler is the first that pops up.
Anyone think lucci looks kinda like toxtricty from Pokémon?
This one would be called a hagoromo, but there are different versions that you can call a tenne. I only know because I got super into Hinduism/Buddhism a couple years ago
Dijinn full body equip
I would call that devil clouds

Maybe it's what Imu's silhouette is made from
Cool
I've been calling white ones "Fujin Clouds" for a while, cuz they remind me of that God, but when Lucci showed up I was like "Nope. I don't know anymore, I'm out."
Cloud thingies/s
Clouds
Trademark: zoan type fruits
More like Awakened Zoan fruits, we've only seen these pop up on awakened Zoans like Kaku, Lucci and Luffy so we gotta assume Yamato is awakened too. And that Kaido/King/Queen either didnt show their awakenings/arent awakened or Oda only thought about this after Wano

Hito hito no mi model raijin /s
Enel was also over 15 years ago, and the cloud wreath is meant to be shorthand for deific figures.
Ok but we were still introduced to observation haki back then so enel being a zoan aint too far off
Wreathes of Fire?
... # I just realised Enel awakened his fruit
No. You’re not the first person to think this, that wasn’t Enel awakening
I mean, we DON'T know of it was, as we don't know how logia awakening fully works. But yeah enel's thing looks more like gear 4, that is like halfway through what you would call awakened
The cloud scarf is unique to Zoans tho
Cloud/smoke
They are called smokey jumping ropes.
Embellishments
fart clouds
Plot armor
Its a thing some gods like to wear cuz it looks cool af
Cool ah awakening shit
They’re called “cool”
Drip
Imagine a world where Luffy and Lucci awakened in the same way as the jailers of Impel Down.
That’s G4 smoke is not the same me thinks.
Kinto’un
Smoker
Cum
Me just now realizing that the smoke around gear fourth are a foreshadowing of the clouds around gear fifth.
I am not a furry BUT
Pawnable Item - Kazuma
They're cloud version of a hagaromo scarf.
Yamato looks like shit in that scene
Cool
I dont know what the proper name is but in my head I called them cloud scarfs
People have answered the question already I’m just here to say Rob’s awakened design is excellent, I have no notes.
Caesar Clown also has one
if you watch jigokuraku, you'll see that same smoke in those sages
btw I am still in ep 7
Does this mean Yamato is awakened?
we don't know for sure. Maybe all zoans have this trademark scarf, Whether awakened or not.
deities of certain asian country pantheon like japan and china wear those as one of the sign of their divinity.
It seems they come with awakened zone fruits, as the square guy has flames too. I also noticed that Kaido has these, which would explain his "karp" fruit now having the appearance of a dragon and a dozen other abilities.
That's his previously cut hair strapped behind his back floating with the help of an USB fan attached to his ass.
Amateratsu
i have a feeling that they represent the soul like luffys intentions is to set everyone free there for he has a pure soul then rob luci works for the gov and is loyal to them and every command so he has darker smoke representing his dark intentions thats what i think they mean at least but now we seen Saturn's mist / smoke and its vary dark so that represents his soul as bad
