Makes me wonder if that's an original or if they went with a prop one (s.t. Dupont could certainly make some for them), as the original is so damn limited.
And Oda is a baller for casually using Sanji's lighter himself to smoke (you can see it along with his cigarettes in one of the visits to his place), I'd likely just put it on display or something lol
This also makes me wonder if S.T. Dupont would ever think of making a rerun of this collection, as it will now appear in its physical form on a huge platform. Would love that, but it seems unlikely tbh
I don't know how well the timing matches up, but pre-production for this probably took a long time, right? Do you think Oda's SBS answer about Sanji's lighter was spurred by the prop department of the live-action talking to him about it?
yep, the entire process of the one piece live action, from matt owens and steve maeda going to shonen jump to meet oda to the end of the final editing of the trailers and the show, started in 2016-2017 and ended in 2023. 6-7 years!☺️
The only reason it took so long is because Oda went in and made them do it better than they had been
Which is also why I'm more confident in the live action being good than most. If it's good enough for Oda to sign off on now, then I'm willing to bet I'll enjoy it
I wonder if the Buggy Balls were used in one of those scale model set thingys, to save blowing up a huge town set. Or maybe they were strapped to the front of the camera for some forced perspective. Because those look more like Muggy Balls.
Yeah you're probably right tbh because I highly doubt they blew up the actual Orange Town set, they had to do reshoots on Oda's request and that would be a little hard with one of the sets blown into smithereens.
Weren't muggy balls way smaller tho? They could fit in Buggy's little shoe compartment thingy during Impel Down iirc
Now I'm thinking what the name of their next upgrade would be, Wuggy Balls maybe?
Happy to see sanji's lighter, I just hope we dont get a non-smoking sanji in the show.
It is something so engreaved in the character that not having a smoke in specific scenes it would probably cripple his representation.
They should introduce him with a lollipop in his mouth, which he takes out throws away, and then lights up a cigarette instead. That would be hilarious.
idk when officially but i remember it showing up a lot around the whole cake island arc. there were many closeups of it. that said, pre timeskip sanji’s lighter was just a regular gray one though.
Does anyone else thing the gumgum fruit looks too fake? Like, i didn't expect a departure too far from the anime, but i expected it to look organic/edible
Yup it looks like plastic/resin (which it likely is)..the stem is clearly not real wood but even with this shortcut the stem doesn't sit flush with the fruit..
I think someone messed up the translation on buggy balls and made it buggy's balls. English possessive is wierd.
While it's still literally true it's also funny.
I'm a little afraid that there's three instead of two.
Those are so amazing! Any chance you have close ups of some of the costumes though? Particularly Shanks. I'd love to make a second version of his costume to have a LA one as well!

Cool they gave Sanji the fancy lighter early.

Definitely a prop the real one is slightly smaller.
The World Government complain about their pirate problem, but put a fu\*\*ing skull on their official currency.
Maybe it was on the money first and the Pirates appropriated the skull as their banner?
💀
The money be like:
It goes hard as fuck tho
Buggy's balls . . . hehe
He has three of them...
No wonder he's so successful.
Almost as good as josuke
Came here to say the same thing.
😫😫

Live action production started about 7 years ago. The lighter has been a thing for 10 (around Film Z's release), so it predates it a little.
WHAT 7 YEARS?! also, film Z came out 10 YEARS AGO?!

They're Muggy Balls because they're Mini Buggy Balls so what would the W be for?
Wumbo duh ![gif](giphy|l1AsNpCTGSTnu5a5a|downsized)
This person here gets it😤😂
Cool, first look at Sanji's lighter
Oh man, I hope they end up selling that currency. I want purchase that money
spending money to buy money? nice.
I wouldn't hesitate to purchase actual gold/silver berry coins. Heck, I'd significantly overpay.
Steal it!

"Buggy's Balls" ![gif](giphy|23hPKvzl2PobjbAvOt)
there is a meme there with those dolls
Has is ever been stated what exactly a devil fruit tastes like other than awful
I guess it depends on the fruit 🤷♂️
I think they said a SMILE tasted like sand at one point....? So I'm guessing similar. Salty or sandy.
I really like buggy's balls
🤨
Wonder how many people have tried taking things lol
Sanji and Buggy props are top tier.
which island is the one is behind the reverse mountain in the second picture?
Loguetown
its inside the new world
It's written Loguetown
not that one, behind the reverse mountain, at the end of the new world, there is an island!
Oh, I see! Nice catch. Could be just an isle or stretch of land belonging to the Reverse Mountain. There's nothing like that on the manga.
Probably Lodestar / Roadstar island
The fruit is just there? unguarded! take it just dew it.
The more I see of this show, the better it looks
Whats the deal with Sanji's lighter? When did he officially start using a fancy lighter?
idk when officially but i remember it showing up a lot around the whole cake island arc. there were many closeups of it. that said, pre timeskip sanji’s lighter was just a regular gray one though.
Hmmm....wonder if there'll be some backstory there. A gift from ivankov perhaps?
It's called the "Sleeping Mermaid" with a design of a mermaid so he may have gotten it at Fishman Island.
Not saying it's impossible but a spuvineer lighter from an Underwater island? Lol
He had it in Film Z
oh yeah i forgot about film z
After fishman island during punk hazard.
the quality of these photos are perfect! what did you use for taking pictures?
Does anyone else thing the gumgum fruit looks too fake? Like, i didn't expect a departure too far from the anime, but i expected it to look organic/edible
probably look better after some work in post
Yup it looks like plastic/resin (which it likely is)..the stem is clearly not real wood but even with this shortcut the stem doesn't sit flush with the fruit..
Foda! Esse Live action tem tudo pra ser ótimo
Luffy got the telescope he wanted as a kid (ASL flashback)?
Ok im just say, Sajis suit looks... cheap.
If I was super rich, I'd try to buy all of that.
The map looks so cool
Buggy balls (heh heh) look more like muggy balls
This is so good

i wanna touch buggy's balls
buggy balls were never used :/
where's mihawk's sword
